The cost to join the league is more than most travel team fees. Additionally, each spectator is charged $10 to enter the facilities! Instruction was inconsistent at best. Practice took place one a week, if at all. At the beginning of the season, my son's team name and coach changed several times; he was 1/4 of the way through the season before he received a uniform. The schedule was horrendous! Saturday game times were not provided until Friday every week. Furthermore, it was not unusual for me to verify the game times with the coach on Friday afternoon, only to have them change before Saturday morning. Never before have I had a child in a sport and been unable to provide grandparents with a schedule of game times for the entire season. I am grateful that the facility is nearby, but but for the ability to plan my summer I'd almost rather drive to a place like Grand Park. At least for the inconvenience of driving there, I know I would have a schedule in advance so I could plan my weekend accordingly, and am rarely charged an entrance fee

There's a remarkable and historical foot suspension bridge that spans Deer Creek and connects Riley…read morePark to downtown Delphi. (I'm only reviewing the bridge as Ken has done a great job of reviewing the park.). The footbridge was first built in 1908 but has been replaced multiple times due to flooding. There was no bridge between the flood of 1913 and the rebuild in 1989. Todays bridge is suspended by steel cables and the walk way and rails are wood. You can see remarkable, majestic views of Deer Creek from the bridge. I have to admit, the bridge is a little wobbly when crossing by foot, especially if others are crossing. The bridge is part of the Riley-City Trail, one of many trails in Delphi. To access the bridge, park in Riley Park and there is a tree covered wood walkway to the bridge. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

There is also a gazebo and a large shelter/pavilion and several landscaped gardens. The park lies on the south side of Deer Creek and has an elevated boardwalk that leads to a footbridge that crosses over. There is plenty of parking and quite a bit of shade along the walking trail. Across the highway is the Riley Park Annex. Although it practically doubles the park size, it is less developed. It does have a small playground (swings) and a skate park, but most of the area is set aside for soccer fields. There isn't a water feature here, so on days like my visit, the park was pretty empty due to the heat/humidity. And be careful pulling out onto the highway since visibility is not the greatest for seeing oncoming traffic if you are crossing the road. Review #2789

I haven't been spending too much time in McCordsville lately, but I finished some writing early and…read moredecided to reward myself with a late lunch and a drive through the area. Old School Park is a relatively small park in a growing area of McCordsville. At a mere three acres, Old School Park really packs in the fun with a recently revamped playground and a pretty cool basketball. There's a baseball diamond off to the side, though it's way smaller and either used exclusively for kids or not quite revamped yet. Old School Park has a shelter, a story walk, and there's also a tennis court. They also do have public restrooms. Dogs are allowed. The ground surface on the playground was rather soft. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I liked it. The playground itself is not accessible. The park was packed on this end of May Saturday with the sun out and the temps in the mid-70s. Teens were at the basketball court. Parents with children were at the playground. I might caution that the park is next to a lightly traveled road, and the only barrier happens to be a row of parking spaces. So, darting children could have an issue between parked cars and traffic. The road is definitely lightly traveled, though there are several new businesses in the area - so, it's for sure growing. This is definitely not a destination park, though it's a wonderful residential park for the McCordsville area.

Old School Park has two new playgrounds: one for toddlers and another big-kid playground for ages up to 12 years old. The big-kid playground has a giant tunnel slide, a spherical climbing structure, swings and a merry-go-round. Both playgrounds have rubber playground surfacing. There is also a new picnic shelter, a restroom facility (which was not open when I visited, but is supposed to open soon) and two revamped basketball courts. This is a tiny neighborhood park, and not a park I would go out of my way to visit. (Unless you're screwy like me and will drive your children 30 minutes to visit a tiny playground because it's new and you've never experienced it before.) But this is a nice little place to play for the people who live in McCordsville.

The entrance is on the north side of the complex where 2nd St extends south of Ohio St. There is a basketball court on the north side of the parking lot while the pool, playground, and softball fields are to the south. The pool is closest to the parking area and you enter through the building to get to the fenced in pool. Not a lot of slides or fun extras here, but the pool is a decent size and has life guards on duty during their open hours. To the east of the pool is the softball complex where multiple fields are nestled together with lights and most of the features you expect. To the south (you have to walk to here) are the playground, a shelter, a beach volleyball court, and a workout station. Sorry if you have to haul a lot of food to the shelter....no vehicles allowed. But the shelter and most of the equipment looked in good condition. The workout area needed some weeding to bring it up to par, but otherwise seemed functional. Lots to do and fairly well maintained, this park is a place to check out for some low cost fun in Monticello. Review #2758
