This European-inspired bakery has been around since the 1960's! They make old-school bread, pastries, pies, and pastries. As an amateur baker, I don't purchase items that often, but when I'm in the area, I do enjoy their whole wheat hamburger buns, cinnamon rolls, and Bienenstich (German Bee Sting cake). The first time I had this cake, I thought, wow, this is amazing! The next few times I bought it, there were inconsistencies, so I haven't purchased it again. I'm not sure if it's still available, but it's a very decadent and delicious custard cake with almonds! I usually speak with Rose Mary, who is absolutely engaging and super friendly! It can get very busy on weekends, and they sell out of popular items very early in the morning. Parking is a bit awkward (parallel to the bakery), with the exit wrapped around the back.

One of the best gems I've seen in the city of Scarborough, they have deals like no other and to make things easier bring cash !! I had the lemon danish as well it was amazing one of the best bakeries I've been to in a while. Service is really good and it can get busy in there!

Get 'em while they're hot ! The product moves fast here and for good reason! Delicious all around. Reasonable prices for high quality freshly baked goods. I've come here before to collect boxes of goodies (mostly danish ) for parties and they were a hit. Today I decided to purchase fresh pizza dough for dinner and bag of steaming chocolate chip cookies. Wow! This place can't be beat. There was a short line up outside but only waited less than 10 min. Fantastic spot off an industrial street on midland ave. no brainer to check it out if you're in the area.

Strudel came in this bag but all gone by the time I decided to write this post so that's all that's left!

Wow! Amazing apple strudels. A friend brought one over from this bakery that I never heard of to share. I had many strudels before but this one is amazing! The from scratch taste shows! You guys earned a new customer! I'll be coming by in the near future to try the cherry strudels and pretzels too!

A wonderful bakery that's a bit hidden on a side street among an industrial area. But don't let that sway your impressions of this bakery. There's a steady turnover (no pun intended) of baked goods and pastries are made fresh. My family has been coming here for a very long time to get their apple strudel. Unfortunately they sold out today, so we opted for their cherry strudel, 2 raisin buns, and a loaf of their flax seed bread. The strudel is excellent and we asked for without sugar. The raisin buns have a bit of chewiness to it. And the flax seed is much better than the ones in the grocery stores.

This hidden gem is within walking distance from me which delights me as much as it frightens me. I usually walk there when it just opens so i can snatch up as many treats as possible. There is already a line at 8 am these days but they take your order while you wait in line so the wait isn't very long. They have breads, danishes, pizza dough, puff pastry dough, dinner rolls, pies, and pretzels. I reward myself for walking there by eating freshly baked pretzels on my way back home but dipping it in some melted cheese is also fantastic. Last but not least, i want to draw your attention to their honey almond cake. The honey almond cake is such a treat to eat and is less than $5! It's not too sweet, creamy, crunchy, and the thin layer of cake is so fluffy. It is definitely big enough to split between 2 people, but tasty enough to devour alone (don't judge me).

Whenever I'm lazy and need to get something up for a party, I always make my way to Montmartre Bakery to pick up their strudels since it's always a hit. Everything here is made fresh daily and since it's a wholesaler, the prices are incredibly cheap. Strudels come in flavours like apple ($5.50), cherry ($6.10) and blueberry ($6.50) and are TWO FEET LONG!!! I usually choose to get half a strudel (for half the price of course) so I can get more than one flavour. The strudels are nice and flakey and I'll usually get it topped off with icing sugar if I'm heading straight to the party afterwards. This time I got the cherry and blueberry strudels. The cherry has a nice tart flavour and the blueberry is packed with tonnes of fresh blueberries and jam. Show up with these babies and you'll be bound to be asked where these magical pastries came from. I would also recommend grabbing a few apple turnovers (only $1) if you're there! They are divine. The pastry is light and flakey and packed with thick pieces of warm, tender spiced apples in the filling. And best of all, the top of the turnover is sprinkled with coarse cinnamon sugar giving it a delicious crunch. The fresh pretzels are also a good option at 95¢ each, I usually pick up at least 3-4... Soft & chewy with just the right amount of kosher salt. I'll be honest, it was a bit of a carb overload but every bite was absolutely delicious. Danish are a steal at $1.00 each - they are HUGE. Made fresh daily, the pastry is light and flaky and drizzled with icing. The blueberry danish had a bold flavour and I love that you can even pick out little pieces of fresh blueberries in the fruit filling. The apricot custard was my favourite though. There was a pretty large piece of apricot wrapped in the pastry and the creamy custard really brought the fruit and pastry together well. Be forwarned that this is not a fancy bakery where you can sit down and eat - definitely takeout only. And I would also recommend to go early as almost all the shelves will be cleared out if you go during the last hour of operation.

I spent almost $100 on baklava and various sweets, expecting high-quality pastries that would last at least a couple of days. The first day they were mediocre at best, but the real issue became apparent the next day - everything had turned hard and dry. The baklava lost all its moisture and became nearly inedible. For the premium price I paid, I expected fresh pastries that would maintain their quality for more than 24 hours. I ended up having to throw most of it away, which felt like throwing $100 in the trash. Such a waste of money. I'm not sure if this was an off day or if there's an issue with how they store their products, but the quality simply wasn't there. I hate leaving negative reviews, but I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. At these prices, customers deserve pastries that stay fresh and delicious beyond the day of purchase.

We got one regular lamprais and she made a veggie one specially for my partner that is vegan and tolerates less spice than myself (I've got a Sri Lankan trained tongue, so I always go extra spicy). The traditional lamprais had all of the parts, though maybe a few slight deviations from what you might have back in Sri Lanka. Overall the lamprias came together very well and tasted great. The Sambal Belacan was modified but very tasty and the eggplant was perhaps a tad sweet. That's part of the experience though, every place makes theirs a bit differently and it is for you to try out and discover the one you like best. Certainly give there's a try. Besides the lamprais, we got some buns, rolls, and other small eats which all tasted exactly how they should. Looking forward to visiting them again.

So I stopped by on a Thursday mid-afternoon to buy a vegetarian Kothu Roti ($5). It was rightly spiced (I asked for mild) and very flavourful. When I inquired about their Lamprais, I learned they are available on weekends and can be ordered as Classical (meat) or veggie version. I couldn't help but to try their veggie Samosas (4/$1) and the courteous lady asked if I would like samosa as well as patties(also 4/$1) and also gave me one extra as this was my first visit to their restaurant. Overall, I was impressed by their food and service. Will visit again.

Xuan Bakery has been on my list since they've opened and I finally had the chance to take a peek inside! It's your classic Chinese bakery, so nothing special there - you just take the tray and tongs at the far end and make your way to the register. The spacing can be done a little better - you can't really have more than 2-3 people looking and getting buns at the same time. SELECTION: There wasn't a lot of variety, but with the selection they do have, it was pretty unique. They have two different types of Pineapple Buns (bo lo bao): the classic and a Taiwanese version (which looks like Japanese melon buns). They also have several different sausage buns, including one with cheese and another with pork floss. These also look a bit different, it's not encased in the bun, but it's more of a hotdog kind of look. They also offer cakes and free samples of their cakes, which look and taste like your typical Chinese bakery cakes (not my preferred taste). They seem to really want to upsell their cakes (the lady kinda tried pressuring me to try and buy). PRICE: The prices were on the higher end. You're looking at about $4-6 per bun. They also have a 'lucky draw' going on right now if your subtotal is more than $25, but my draw required a minimum purchase of $35 lol (for a free slice of cake). FAV: The classic pineapple bun. The top was SO crispy yet the bottom was SO soft. I would go back just for this by itself. There was a lady ahead of me who ONLY bought the pineapple buns. She knows what's up.
