I've loved this bakery's pastries for a long time and visit regularly, which made yesterday's experience especially disappointing. I came in to buy about 30 pastries for my coworkers and let the employee know it would be a larger order. In a dismissive tone, she told me I had to wait until the store was empty before being served. I ended up waiting over 15 minutes as new customers kept arriving. The wait itself wasn't the issue--it was the way I was spoken to. When I asked for two boxes, I was told there would be a 50¢ charge for the second one. While that may be store policy, I would expect customers making larger purchases to feel appreciated, not inconvenienced. I left feeling unwelcome and undervalued. I hope the customer service improves because the pastries are excellent. read more

I was excited when my friend introduced me to this exciting, authentic French bakery! Once I walked inside the smell of fresh baked goodies was wonderful! It took me a long time to decide on what I wanted because everything looked so delicious. I ended up getting a Butter Croissant $3.25, Pistachio Croissant $3.95, Kouign-Amann $3.75 and Sourdough Boule bread that was already sliced $5.45. The croissants were so deliciously flaky and buttery and especially loved the heavenly Pistachio Croissant that gave me a Foodgasm! I also loved the Sourdough Boule that was so flavourful and delicious when lightly toasted. I wished I knew the specific ingredients of the bread but couldn't find anything online. What a wonderful French bakery. The selection was impressive, with so many delicious pastries and treats to choose from that it was difficult to decide what to take home. The cinnamon pecan Danish was absolutely perfect for breakfast, with just the right balance of sweetness and flavor. I'm already looking forward to returning to try even more items. I also picked up an éclair for later this evening and can't wait to enjoy it. Based on everything I've tried so far, I'm sure it will be just as delicious. A great place for French pastries, cakes, breads in Scarborough. There's always a line up outside for a reason. I tried the cheddar scone, pistachio croissant, pain au chocolate and beignet. All very good but if I had to pick one, it would be pain au chocolate. Nice flaky crust and many layers of airy butter goodness and a semi-sweet chocolate ganache type filling. Le Bastille Bakery This is a small bakery in an industrial park. We were there on a Friday morning. There is a constant line from outside to inside the bakery, and the line moved fairly quickly. I would recommend to start looking at the pastries from the cash end and make your way to the start of the line so that you can view all the treats. Individual pastries start from $6.50 and up. We purchased: Lemon Meringue Mille Feuille* Kouign-Amann Black Forest Apricot Danish The Mille Feuille (MF) and Kouign-Amann, were our favourites. The MF was super flakey and in the custard middle it had a light cheesecake like texture and topped with a torched citrus flavour. It was still so delightful the second day after purchase. The Apricot danish pastry had several layers in the pastry unlike other danish's I've had, we enjoyed it. The Black Forest too had several textures and juicy black cherries, another delightful dessert. It held its freshness two days after purchase. Very yummy too. Many customers were buying several treats. The party in front us of only ordered two Kouign-amann, so I knew I had to try that too! When we return I'd like try the scones which were almost sold out. Savoury pies, sandwiches and hot beverages are available too. Plenty of parking available right outside the bakery. read more

Still one of my fave bakeries. Their Apple Tatin is one of my faves. Hubby loves the chocolate mousse tart. Their sourdough bread is also fantastic!! They often have special offerings on the weekends (Sat/Sun). This past weekend it was Opera cake. I've been searching for a bakery for patisseries and viennoiseries in the Scarborough area and stumbled upon La Bastille. It's a distance from where I reside in but I'm always down to make a trip for good baked goods. They are very easy to locate as they're located right on Birchmount and have a parking lot with lots of spots available early in the morning. They offer a great selection of sweet and savoury croissants, muffins, danishes, scones, muffins and many sweets and loafs! So far, I've tried their croissants (almond, chocolate almond, butter croissant, kouign-amann, cruffin), scones (blueberry, cranberry and cheese) and their muffins (peach and blueberry). My favourites is the almond croissant and the scones! I have yet to try their beignets, danishes, their savoury croissants and many of the sweets in their beautiful display case! read more

Cute Patisserie in an unexpected neighborhood. The shop is an industrial park area however once you walk in you don't feel like you are. You are greeted by a large counter filled with freshly baked pastries. There is no in house seating; food is take out only. They also sell some quiches and sourdough bread on site. I purchased the chocolate almond croissant, the broccoli quiche and the sourdough bread. The croissant was very crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside with lots of filling! I found the price to be worth it on this product. The quiche single serving is a little small so I paired it with some homemade cauliflower soup and the sourdough bread for a gourmet home lunch experience. Note: this is the second French Bakery that I have visited. Pros : I love their fresh breads and their half baguettes Cons: I have placed a few on-line orders for pick up only to discover 3/4 of the items were unavailable. It was disappointing to think I ordered cookies, sticky toffee pudding only to find there weren't even made. I did find their desserts to be excrement. Their Black Forrest cake and deconstructed Lemon meringue to be excellent. Their beguines were hit or miss. The Vanilla ones were great the Chocolate ones seemed too much. Their French Croissants were also very good. The space here is tight and it is best to start your browse at the cashier end and work backward. read more

Cozy little French bakery tucked away in a not so known plaza in Scarborough. I came across this place because it's literally 5 mins away from my home and I had to go there! They have an amazing staff who are very cordial and welcoming and will help you choose the best stuff from their menu. I wanted to try the Mille-feuille but unfortunately they were out of those for the day so I tried their Pistachio croissant and Ham and Cheese croissant and both of them were SO delicious! We've been here twice now and both times, we were wowed by the deliciousness of the baked goods but then also disappointed in the service. I'm not going to lie, I'm a chatty person and I like to be friendly, wherever we go. As soon as I walk in, I try to greet the staff and smile... but both times we've entered, I noticed that the employees aren't particularly friendly. That's fine... it would be nice to have chattier, friendlier wait staff but hey, the baked goods are yummy, the sourdough loaf we got was delicious soooo I'll mozy on by to chat with someone else with my yummy goodies! I first heard about this place on TikTok and after seeing what they offer, I decided to come check it out for myself. This is a small bakery in an industrial unit in Scarborough. They have a pretty good selection of what they offer in terms of sweet baked goods as well as savory items, They also even offer hot drinks like coffee. I got a few different types of croissants, a danish and a sourdough baguette which was the first time I've ever seen that offered. The croissants were delicious and my favourite item ended up being the sourdough baguette! I enjoyed visiting La Bastille Bakery; the place looked really nice and quaint. Though there was a line, we didn't wait for long. It was early morning, and fresh baked goods were emerging one after another. The variety made it hard to choose, but we decided on beignets, chocolate and pistachio croissants, ham and cheese croissants, scones, a traditional baguette, chocolate eclairs, and tarts. We may have over-ordered, but everything looked so tempting. While we weren't fond of the pear almond tart and the chocolate eclairs, the rest were definitely worth the buy. read more

When I saw that there was a French bakery on Google Maps, I knew I had to give it a try. Walking along Birchmount it's not too difficult to spot, and if you're driving, as long as you've got a GPS going you should be fine too. Stopped in at 8:30 AM on a Saturday and there was ample stock of goodies to be found. As someone who love savoury croissants, I was glad they had a vegetarian, spinach and cheese option. Besides croissants, they also have fruit danishes, caramelized apple tarts, kouignamann, quiches (single serving and a whole pies to go), loaves of bread and coffee. What they don't have, is the space for dine-in, so if you invite someone to meet you there, I hope the weather's nice enough for a picnic! Also, I didn't see any celebratory cakes, so if you're looking for a birthday cake, better call in to double check first. If you're in the area, this is a fun option to visit. The spinach cheese croissant I got was decent, and my wallet appreciates that it wasn't $5-6 like the downtown croissanteries. read more

I was so impressed with authentic and delish pastries. We loved the almond croissants and they were fresh and perfect ratio of filling. I will definitely visit this bakery again.
