I would give this jeweler ZERO stars if I could. Experience started out ok, but quickly went sideways and cost us $500 to return a ring purchased there that was damaged by the owner. I wore the ring twice and had to take it back multiple times for him to correct his errors. Rodney charged us a "service" fee which was him fixing the damage he caused. He did not provide us with service. The diamond he chose to put in the setting was too large for the setting so the prongs (3 white gold and 1 yellow gold) had to be adjusted as they were catching in material. When prongs do this,they are loose and are not holding the diamond in securely. This problem arose after wearing the ring for 1 day. Instead of mounting the appropriate sized stone in the setting, Rodney put the prongs on the outside instead of the inside of the halo part of the ring so the prongs were placed in the wrong spot and did not secure the ring. He said he would size the ring for me. We agreed a 6 may work, but we all saw how loose it was on my finger. He told me try it a day or two, we can always size it down. The 6 was too big so I took it back for resisting. What our receipt said and I agreed to was a size 5+/ 5.25. Instead of sizing it correctly, he LASERED it down to a size 5. I took it to another jeweler to ask if they could fix the prongs, resize it and give me an appraisal. They looked over the entire ring under a microscope and showed me the shoddy workmanship of the prongs (also 3 being white gold-the color of the ring, and one prong was yellow gold), the sizing being done with a laser, the diamond was not certified and was too large for the setting. I asked the jeweler if they could fix the problems. They said they wouldn't do it due to all of the problems with it. They also couldn't appraise it due to the shoddy workmanship. My husband returned the ring to Rodney who told my husband he'd have to charge a restocking fee and take time deciding how much of a refund he'd give us. I texted Rodney advising him we wanted a full refund as he damaged the ring from the start placing the incorrect diamond, he selected, in the ring (he said my husband selected the diamond but he didn't because we were both at that appt. and never selected a diamond with a specific cut, clarity, etc. Rodney chose to mount the diamond in the prongs incorrectly on the ring. Rodney chose to laser the ring to size it instead of doing it correctly and to the correct size we requested. The ring was not polished; visual laser cuts were seen as well as the defective prongs that had been ground down to alleviate my concern of it catching on material. Rodney said it was a custom ring. The other jeweler said it was a stock ring as Rodney didn't sign the inside of the ring and the diamond had no serial numbers on them. Rodney was irritated with me when I asked for a full refund. He said in a text, do you realize what you're asking for? We are a small family business." And that I couldn't make any demands on if he took the ring back, gave us a refund, etc. I told him, if he purchased something and due to the issues we've had with his ring I'm sure he'd demand his money back. Apparently he saw my plea to have our entire purchase refunded as a demand. I have emails and text messages to back up the facts. I'd still like our $500. back. I don't understand why we should pay him to damage a ring that is unwearable and that I do not possess. read more

We have had Rodney design a piece for me with some gold running through quartz that my husband had hard-rock mined. And we brought in some additional gold to melt down for the framework. It is a sentimental piece that turned out very distinctive. We have also purchased 3 diamond and gold bands. These are meant for the 3 granddaughters in the future. I was wearing them stacked and the prongs were catching the diamonds and causing me to lose a stone here and there. Each time Annie and Rodney replaced the stones. So this happened a while ago but I'm new to Yelp, I took a bracelt in to have charms removed and attached, it is a specialty item thay comes from my favorite jeweler in Texas and therefore isn't something that can be easily replaced. I got my bracelet back and charms that were added are facing the wrong direction or not attached properly and that's not even mentioning the sloppy work. I realize that this bracelet may only be important to me but as I am paying for a service my jewelry should have been treated as though it was also important to the business I took it to. Originally took my ring here to get it resized, a crooked diamond fixed and appraised which wasn't a great experience. The resizing was fine but they forgot to do the appraisal so that had to be sent in the mail. They also said the prongs needed to be retipped so they did that too and was done terribly. I never had a problem with the prongs getting caught on things until after this was done and I'm constantly snagging my clothes now. Not to mention the top prong is completely uneven, really sloppy work. About a month later the diamond that was crooked when I first brought it in got knocked out of place again so I brought it in to get that and the prong fixed. Was told 4-5 day turnaround. 5 days later and they say it will be done Sunday. No call so I call back, now it will be done Tuesday. Wait all day with no call. Wednesday comes and goes and I finally call and find out my ring is done...so nobody was going to call and let me know? Get there and the crooked diamond is fixed, doesn't look great, there are nicks all over the gold around it and the prong has no work done to it at all and still snagging. The ring is taken in the back and who knows what is done and it's still not fixed. At this point I just wanted to take my ring and get out of there. I would have put no stars if able to but the review requires to mark at least one. I purchased a white gold diamond ring 2.4 carat cush lab created diamond and .65 actual diamonds on the sides of the ring, total 2.65 carat's from Rodney and his insulting curt wife in 2014. Note: On the purchasing of the ring approximately $1,950 both Rodney and his wife were very friendly and warm. But during this repair of the ring, there was a lack of communication and a cold and unfriendly demeanor. Since then a prong broke off and we took it in for a repair. It took two weeks for the repair and Rodney advised me that he would call me in a few day's but the call never came. I ended up calling him about a week later. He said that the ring is not done yet and he will call when it is ready for pick up. He never called so a week or so later, we just dropped in at his store, Rodney Montoya Jeweler's in Windsor on the Town Green. He said the ring is ready and it has been for a couple of days. We were a bit taken back but glad to have my girlfriends ring back. After getting home my girlfriend said the ring looks off and the prong that was repaired looks smaller. I took my jeweler loop and noticed that the prong was smaller and not in uniform with the other 3 prongs. Also the diamond had puddle marks in it from the laser used to repair the prong. So not only was there lack of communication and a poorly repaired prong and a damaged diamond, there was a $45 fee charged by Rodney and the worst was that Rodney knew he was giving us, (customers) a damaged ring back. I am all about integrity, trust, honesty and honor and all of that has been broken by my experience with Rodney Montoya Jeweler's. We did return to Rodney and he offered to fix the ring and order a new 2.4 carat diamond and properly repair the prong, at no charge. Three weeks later due to a still lack of communication a supposedly a UPS vehicle late to deliver his chemical to finish the final repair on ring, we finally picked up the ring and I took out my loop to look at the repair and there was small puddle marks on the diamond again. But so small as to just not hassle with it any longer. Rodney's wife who called me to pick up the ring and who serviced us on pick up of the ring was as I mentioned earlier was insulting and curt and with other customers in the small jewelry shop she made a comment to us looking at me, that if you want to buy a real diamond and upgrade, we have a 2 carat cushion cut and said it very rudely. I hope this review helps others in thinking twice to where you buy your fine jewelry. The lab created diamond we thought we were buying was supposed to be a lab created diamond and close to the hardness as a diamond but the one we received the first time lost it's color and shine. I guess we will see what happens with this second one. I have already picked out a new genuine diamond non conflict they say to replace the so called lab created diamond. Conflict diamond or not, I'm going genuine diamond only! read more

I have even brought friends and family into the shop, and praised their work on social media! However, I have recently endured harassment from the owners. My relationship with these people has been nothing but professional which is why I feel yelp is the perfect platform for me to speak about the issue. This is not a personal matter, I don't know these people outside of their business! But I have been receiving harassing and even threatening texts from them. She went so far as to tell me that the police will be called if I return to their place of business. I will be taking my money elsewhere, this could happen to anyone! DO NOT GO INTO THIS STORE. Rodney did a beautiful job of resizing my wedding and engament ring I broke my fingers and wrist due to a fall and I was unable to wear my rings. My wedding band was 38 years old and the pattern on it was vey faint, he meticulously hand engraved the pattern back on, it looks better than it did when it was new.
