Been in a couple times now, Monty + Ashtin have both crushed it. I'm very particular about my hair, so this is high praise for me to say.

Sitting at the corner of Charlotte Ave and 46th in an old brick multi-story office building is Monty's Barber Shop...one of the coolest little spots to get a fantastic cut! This was my first haircut since moving to Nashville and as expected, I was super nervous...but I luckily got linked up with Lane, who turned out to be a super solid dude that gives stellar cuts! Monty's has two location, and while I cannot speak to the other location, which is downtown, this particular spot in the Sylvan Park are is a no frills, old school, local and genuine barbershop. The building Monty's sits in is an unassuming mixed used old brick building, and if you really aren't looking for it, you could pass by easily however you should have no issues spotting the large logo and barber pole on the picture window! Just as the outside, the interior is simplistic and truly feels like a classic men's barbershop with white and black checkered floors, wood paneled walls with concert posters and local sports memorabilia, along with just three simple barber stations, each equipped with comfy, retro style barber chairs that swivel and drop back for that beard trim! Parking is no issues, as they have two lots, both in the rear, with a few spaces being solely dedicated to the building and then a gravel lot that is for public parking, both are free. Overall, I think I found my spot in Nashville and I am super pumped about that! Monty's is definitely a cool spot with legit barbers handing out solid haircuts at a reasonable price! Gentlemen, it's not always easy to find a place for that perfect cut, unless you're looking to spend upwards of $50. Might I suggest Monty's, where they don't feel the price of a haircut needs to outweigh the quality.  Monty's West is a humble shop with a lot of character and heritage. Although it just opened it's doors Summer 2014, the space has been used exclusively as a barber shop since the 1960's, if not earlier. The owners have had this property in the family for generations, and are very adamant about keeping this place true to it's vintage colours.  And that goes the same for the people who cut there. I came in looking for a classic, somewhat traditional haircut and was very pleased with the result. The barber worked with my request, and I never felt I was being rushed off the chair, which is very important to me. Even the vintage jazz music was the perfect touch to provide a relaxed, nostalgic atmosphere. I also noticed that the barber used a handful of older techniques to shape the cut, which really paid off in the long run. The cherry on top was the warm hand towel and single blade neck shave, something you won't see at the big chains.  One aspect of the shop that could use further development is the asthetic. Not necessarily the shop itself, but it's furnishings. I absolutely love the vintage barber chairs, sinks, and mirrors, but the place still feels somewhat bare. With additional decor and furniture pieces fitting of the era, this place will shape up handsomely. Once they replace the storefront banner with permanent signage, the transformation will be complete.  All in all, if you appreciate quality at a fair and decent price, this is the spot for you. read more

Had a great experience here today. I came across this shop via Next Door and I decided to give it a try. If you are in the market for a no frills, genuine, old time-y, proper men's barbershop, then go to Monty's. I personally had my cut and beard trim done by Brad Lyons, who is a super nice guy, but all of the barbers there were very friendly. I had previously been going to Scout's West, but they don't have master barbers and most of the people who work there are stylists. I highly recommend this shop. They've probably made me a long time customer. If you're concerned that a cut is $25 & a beard trim $10, then go to Super Cuts or some department store/Wal-Mart barber. If you want a proper cut from a master barber then these are excellent prices. read more

A week or so ago I read a review of Monty's Barber Shop on Charlotte Avenue. The review helped to persuade me to experience today, July 13, 2022, my first visit to Monty's Barber Shop. I spent this first, but not last, trip in Lane's chair, and concur completely with everything the review I read had to say. Not only did I receive a great haircut, but thoroughly enjoyed meeting and conversing with a true professional in his trade. I also met, and visited briefly with Jesse, who seemed to be very similar to Lane. Before leaving the shop I made an appointment for my next visit. This is one of the few TRADITIONAL barbershops around. The environment is like you walked into an old fashioned shop and the barbers (Jeff is one of the best barbers I have had since moving to Nashville) are HIGHLY skilled. I've been getting my haircut over here for over a year. Went from ponytail to undercut-ponytail, then slick-back, now side-part/hard-part. Perfect every time! The price is very reasonable and the place is cool! Friendly barbers and customers (yeah, customers too!). All the barbers do take their time, so that they can get your haircut done flawless. You absolutely cannot beat Trent at Monty's. I've sent three close friends to him to get haircuts before events and they're now all regulars. Monty's on Charlotte is a classic barbershop. The old-school barber chairs, sinks, and music create a relaxing ambiance that invites you to take a break from the rush outside, if just for a few minutes. This decor is a welcome change from some of the newer chains, with their big screens constantly running ESPN. Jeffrey the barber does a fantastic job every time. He cares about his craft, and it shows. The haircuts are great, a necessity of course for a great barbershop. Every time he's cut my hair, I've been very pleased with the result. But there are also little attentions to detail, like taking care not to get little hairs down my neckline. I don't want to have to wash my shirt just because I wore it to a haircut. I never have after Jeffrey. The straight-razor shave and warm-towel massage are the perfect finish. Jeffrey also cares about his customers. At Monty's, you can feel like a part of the family. Last time, Jeffrey literally learned that his grandchild had been born during my haircut. He calmly takes the call, gives the phone to his wife, and they beam as new grandparents. Then Jeffrey, the consummate professional, finished my cut before heading off to the hospital. Neither rain, snow, sleet, or hail will stop Jeffrey from delivering the perfect cut. I've booked one using their online booking system, however, I didn't get any email that's why, I did a screenshot of the confirmation page.
