I wouldn't classify the burgers here as "gourmet", mainly because presentation wasn't fancy and ambiance was very casual and simple. However, the burgers were quite tasty and served in large portions.
Moo Gourmet Burgers offers a variety of different meats, from classic beef and chicken to more unique kangaroo, lamb, and duck options. They also have vegetarian and gluten-free burgers, smaller burgers catered for kids, several sides such as chips and onion rings, and a variety of milkshakes too.
For our last night in Sydney, we took the Manly Ferry from Circular Quay to Manly Wharf to watch the sunset at Manly Beach and to have dinner at Moo. It was a little tricky trying to find Moo, because they are located on the second level, so the entrance is a narrow stairway between two restaurants on the first level. As we entered, we were seated immediately. After looking through the menu, we decided on the kangaroo burger, Wagyu beef burger, and a side of cheesy bacon chips.
The kangaroo burger had a ground kangaroo meat patty infused with sage and garlic. The garlic flavor wasn't noticeable, but the sage was so prominent that I could barely taste the kangaroo. Defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Nevertheless, the burger as a whole was very good. Caramelized onions were very juicy, tomato and rocket (arugula) were fresh, and beetroot relish was mildly sweet. All of this was sandwiched between two soft and fluffy, although a tad bit dry, sourdough buns. The Wagyu beef burger was delicious as well. The beef patty was so juicy (although cooked well-done by default) and the Brie cheese added just the right amount of creaminess and saltiness to the burger. $16 each for these burgers is considered robbery, but the portions are huge so it's somewhat reasonable.
Our side of cheesy bacon chips were the best chips I've had during my vacation in Australia. The chips were thick-cut and very crispy and flavorful on their own. But the Egmont cheese and bacon bits did add the right amount of saltiness and savoriness. We requested a side of garlic aioli with the chips, and although it wasn't necessary because the chips were fine on their own, the dip was very thick, rich, and potent because the garlic flavor was very strong.
Service at Moo was exceptional, and probably the most friendly service I've gotten at a food establishment in Australia. There was only one waitress covering the whole restaurant (which isn't very large to begin with), yet she was friendly and checked in on us to see if we were enjoying our meal or needed anything else.
The view of Manly Beach from the outdoor patio seating is amazing. I highly recommend sitting outside during sunset, if it's not too windy. You can also draw and color a picture to post along the walls of Moo. It's a great way to leave your mark at the restaurant. read more
