I love mood fabrics and usually don't have much of a problem other than that some of the employee can be rude.. It's the Industry I guess. I went Into mood today to buy some expensive fabrics(mostly silk chiffon) and can't even tell you how disappointed I was with the cut job I received. I am a very frequent customer and I am also a student so I can hardly afford these fabrics in the first place. I noticed one of the fabric being shorted (I got 1/4 yd of each, $20 plus a yd) I showed the owner at the counter and he had her recut that one but I can't even express how how mad I am with the cut job once I got home. Not mention while she was blindly cutting my fabric another employee came over to tell her about another customer getting ready to cut as how she "really wanted that sale" and then rushed through cutting all my fabric. If all I'm getting on 9inches of fabric the least you could do is an even cut job. So so disappointed, I hate to name names but penny.. This an unacceptable job for the prices I pay at mood and the usual good service I receive. read more

who doesn't (couldn't!) like mood?! it's a fun, colorful, inspiring place full of little girls, big girls (cough cough... me...), and everything young and old in between. i don't know all about making clothes and what not. dunno what a top stitch is vs a cross stitch. i've come here for material and trim though, and then just bring it to my excellent tailor (shine cleaners in hollywood, or classical and modern tailoring near robertson). recently though i had to come in to find upholstery fabric for a furniture redo, and came to check the sunbrella. they don't have a huuuuge selection in store, but they do have the books with every other option so i spent quite a while flipping through that there. had no idea how much the ones i liked was per yard because the price varies depending on grade and style. so i went up to the front counter, the guy was crazy busy but he stopped what he was doing to help, which i appreciated. i mean clearly i kinda probably looked like a super duper snazzy and dapper handsome but lost putz with the fabric book in my hand! but he was nice enough to explain and show the price sheet taped to the last pages and how to figure the prices with the fabric code. oh! simple! and the visit before that i had to get like 23 yards of velcro. don't ask me what kinky purpose i needed it for because i'm not going to tell you. the senior-ish lady who helped me then too, was so sweet and down home southern charming and she kept calling me 'child and 'darling, and she was just delightful to work with. and i appreciated that she my inner qualities of being a child and a darling... i've only been here like 3x but each time i've needed help the people have been quite nice. so-- yeah i'm a fan of mood. good fun place to come. ps at least for almost all the fabrics i was checking, they have precut swatches you can just take samples of. such a time saver, some other fabric stores don't have that readily handy! read more

Raul, the store manager, hates you and your business. He doesn't hide it. He doesn't even pretend to appreciate you. Another lady forgot to scan my Mood customer loyalty card even though I told her to and had it out waiting for her to scan it. That was a $250 purchase and she printed the receipt said she would alert the management to add the points to my account. I followed up a week later and she said there wasn't anything they could do and flipped it so it looked like it was my fault. Misha and other associates are great but the twits behind the counter totally suck. read more

If I could give a negative rating, that would be justice. This place has the worst customer service of any fabric store in LA. Whoever runs this store must not know about business etiquette or know manners, for that matter. Downtown LA boasts of small business owners who think they are doing you a favor by just opening their doors. But, who would have thought you find the same thing in, what's supposedly, an upscale store? Where is the professionalism you expect from a higher end retailer? Not only are salespeople rude, some seem to be homeless people that just happen to be walking around the store. I guess it was my own fault for having high expectations. There is so much hype around the fashion industry about this place, but I've yet to understand why. The first experience I had shopping here was not pleasant. I encountered arrogant and snobby salespeople. But, I always give people the benefit of the doubt. We all have our bad days. The second time it was the same and worse. One of the women working there told me nothing they sell is re-orderable. I asked another sales person who told me the complete opposite. There wasn't one person who could give me a straight answer. I wasn't sure if they were playing dumb or if they were dumb. They were rude in answering questions and even made believe they were to busy to help. In spite of this, I've advised clients to go here for fabric. But, they all came back with the same comment -" that's a very unfriendly place where I won't be going back to anytime soon". And yes, I still thought maybe it was me and went there a third time. That was the charm, I knew I would never shop here again, even if they paid me. I don't go into a store to see long faces, unfriendly, snobby, rude, and indifferent people. If I wanted that, I can just go to Paris. I work very hard for my money and will not patronize any store that doesn't understand basic manners and customer service 101. I'm sure some other store wants my business, so I'll go there instead. read more

I'm having a gown made by a dressmaker for a special occasion and needed a certain color and texture of fabric. I do not know a thing about fabric or how a dress is made. When I walked in, I was kindly approached by one of the Mood associates named Kay. She approached me with a smile and a positive attitude. She was so wonderful and really put an effort in helping me get all the materials needed for my dress. She was very knowledgeable in the different types of materials. She went above and beyond for me and I ended up walking out with everything I needed. Kay made such a big difference. Now I can't wait til I see the finished product. Whoa, WORST customer service I've ever experienced. It's a gorgeous store with great fabrics, you'd think it would be a fun experience. Not. You have to wait eons just to get a little help with swatches/cutting, and when you finally do, it's like they're doing you a HUGE favor. If you want to see some nice Marc Jacobs fabric & the owner's cute Chihuahua go here. But if you're expecting any manners & common decency in the customer service department, you're gonna be disappointed. I'd say skip this place & had to Michael Levine in the Fashion District Downtown LA. More fabric, easier to look through, better prices, and some actual NICE people. :) read more

Over priced but a convenient location. Their discount to the trade is small and even though we have a resale lic they still make you pay tax (not sure why). If you can make it downtown to buy fabric you'll find a much larger selection and cheaper prices. The store is large and doesn't feel crowded which is a plays compared to DTLA. I would only recommend Mood if you must buy fabric in this neighborhood, otherwise take the drive downtown for the selection and price and deal with the small spaces. read more

I was super excited to come to this store since it was featured on Project Runway. It was on the DASH Fairfax stop. I was not disappointed. The staff were very helpful. I was very very amazed by the amount of fabric that they have. Wall to wall of delicious fabrics. They even have yarn! The yarn wasn't of great amount. But, there was a wide variety. They have a huge wall of buttons! I can only salivate. I was a bit disappointed at the variety of silk fabrics. They didn't have this heavy silk fabric that I usually get in Thailand. 2 stars for the horrible service or lack thereof. I had to ask for assistance multiple times when I needed help once for a handful of items. If you're a noob to the craft scene, this store is not for you. It was difficult to find what I needed. And when I finally got help to pull fabrics down from their high storage, the employees acted annoyed. It took forever to get rung up and pay for everything, too. Love the fabrics, but honestly, I try to stay away from mood unless I really need their variety of fabrics because of their rude workers. As a student, I'm asked to get a lot of swatches, and then I buy yardage for projects after I get them approved. When I ask most of the workers there for swatches, they give me such a dirty look. I'm just doing what I need to do, and it's a service they offer. What do they expect? I stick to their limits (although I've heard different numbers from different people), and I respect them enough to wait around for one of the workers so that they can cut it for me. As I was waiting yesterday, I overheard one of the workers complaining about students to one of their customers. He was an older worker who apparently is from Europe, and he was bashing on students doing what they are told (to get swatches) and about how now designers have no sense of glamor and how he doesn't even step outside to look at clothes anymore because there's nothing to see and he'd rather spend money on drinks at a bar instead. Really? I'm sorry I was born in the wrong century and want to pursue fashion. Mood. Your fabric selection is the only thing giving you these 2 stars. I ran off to International silks and woolens right afterwards. Loved that place. read more

What can I say about Mood? It's definitely an excellent place to browse for inspiration and sample swatches. It is so easy to fall in love with the designer fabrics and before you know it, you've already handed over your card for $500 of fabric. The average price for most fabric is $25-$45/yd and lining for about $8-16. You will definitely find something special here but be prepared to spend. They do offer a 10% student discount and they also have a membership program. The staff has always been extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Mood for quality fabric. read more

I was very disappointed with my visit today at mood. First, the store was extremely crowded and I was told that I needed my cottons cut by one sales person, upholstery by another and my fringe by a third salesperson. Three different people! It took forever. Also, I needed 1/2 yard of fabric on several items but was told that they only will sell at least a minimum of 1 yard. I asked why and she replied, "this is mood honey." I could have spent half the amount of money. This store didn't work very smoothly as a team and made my shopping experience a tiring, sweaty one. read more

The staff was very helpful and tried their best to help me. However, this new location for Mood is a complete downgrade. The area that surrounds Mood is terrible. Cops have to be posted all over this area of the city, because crime there is so bad. Sirens are constantly going off. I would recommend that, if you want to go to Mood, you need to go when daylight is at maximum. The closer it is to sunset, the more crime and dangerous activity increases. Besides the area, Mood's inside looks smaller, more clustered, and more cramped than their location on La Brea. The fabrics were organized in a better layout and the store actually had lighting. At the new location, I could hardly see some fabrics, because the lighting was so poor. Overall, besides the staff, Mood is definitely subpar to how it was on La Brea. read more

I went here shopping for any modern chic floral or print COTTON fabric and I was disappointed. I'm a fan of Heather Bailey or something along that line. I'm not a fabric snob, I just wanted something cute. I didn't find one pretty fabric. My visit was awhile ago so maybe it has changed. I will not go here if I want a pretty cotton print. read more

Mood has a huge selection, so it can be overwhelming if you don't have the right guide...Fortunately, I found Athene, who works at the Labrea store. Athene was awesome as I searched for a number of fabrics for a formal gown. She was extremely patient and professional as we went back and forth over many many options, and kept me cheerfully on track, constantly coming up with new solutions, and helping me throughout. We enrolled in the sewing class for our children. The instructor Mick told the students (elementary school kids) their fabric was boring!!! When confronted she threw her hands up and said " whatever"! She refused to apologize to them. Fortunately other instructors stepped in to help them complete their projects. The comments she made were very discouraging to the kids. I gave this review based on her performance as an instructor. The American Sewing Guild held their annual meeting at Mood on Saturday the 11th. Thanks to Steve, Ben, Shirley, and many others, we had a marvelous time. Steve worked very closely with out Retail Liaison, Susan and provided everything we asked for to create a perfect meeting. Our attendance in the event was up because we held it at Mood. They offered us a special one day discount and apparently the members took full advantage of that and the supply the store offers. Their prices can be a bit higher than shopping in the garment district of LA but the selection is well worth the drive. Parking can be a challenge, especially on a Saturday. The Staff are amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks again to Steve. You absolutely MADE our day! I can't wait to try your classes! read more

This place has amazing fabric and very knowledgeable staff (many are FIDM students)-- but the staff all think they're hot shit BECAUSE they're so knowledgeable and "cool". It's definitely worth going to for great fabric and helpful design advice, but don't expect a smile and a thank you. Expect disdain. Holy mother of god. I'm 23 and I've wanted to come here for like ten years. We FINALLY made it and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. It's every sewers/crafters dream wonderland. LITERALLY anything you could ever need. They had really cool stuff that I've never seen before. All of the people working there were so cool and nice and helpful! I was there with my sister, mom and niece and everyone was playing with the baby and trying to entertain her, it was really sweet.
