I had a great experience at Affordable Home Fabrics. The customer service was kind and helpful, without being overly solicitous or giving the hard sell. I do not buy fabric often but had decided to reupholster a beloved sofa. My reupholster-er could order fabric for me but at weeks delay to ship and quadruple the price--he was honest about it and told me to go down to the fabric district. I found Affordable Home Fabrics thanks to other yelpers (thanks!). I never felt I was being given false prices, was never pressured into upselling. I was just helped to find something that worked for me. I came back a second time and purchased multiple swatches at a nominal price, so I could take them home, hold them in different light, etc. Finally I made my choice and came back to purchase. Everything was smooth and easy and felt very well treated. I am a solo female shopper (of color) and they were kind and helpful. Great selection with most of the choices in stock and ready to go. Ahhh Love this place! I went to downtown La on Sunday with my husband to go fabric shopping for our new home. We just moved and we were looking to transform our furniture and drapes. We decided to buy the fabric ourselves to try to save a little money. So happy I found this place. First of all the store was huge. They had every type of fabric and at every price point available. Second, the owner was the sweetest person he personally helped me out. We had gone in with an idea of what we liked color scheme and pattern wise and he spent an hour and a half with us mixing and matching everything until we got the perfect combo. Lastly, they did all the work for us. Asked us for all our measurements of our couches and windows etc etc to make sure we purchased the correct amount of yards. At the end he ended up giving us a little extra of everything just in case we needed more. The price point for the quality of fabric we got was better than the 15 stores we had literally walked into before. The quality of the fabrics were better than all the other stores we had gone into as well. Definitely fell in love with this place. If you're looking for a wide range of fabrics in every color imaginable I would recommend stopping by. We ended up with not only fabric for our furniture and drapes but I got some etc to make a few throw blankets and pillows as well. Couldn't resist with all the swatches they showed us. read more

Be forewarned if a female shopping for fabric in the Fashion District alone. I went into two separate stores before going to Affordable Home Fabrics (which I had driven out there for because of the yelp reviews) and was yelled at both times by aggressive salesman for wanting to shop around a bit more before committing to a purchase. And I've never been called "honey" so many times in my life, in such a condescending way. Walking in to Affordable Home was like a breath of fresh air. The store was much more organized than the others, and the gentleman who helped me was not pushy at all, offering help and suggestions only if I wanted them, but otherwise (as he put it) "left me alone". He was happy to pull some fabrics out for me to see them side by side (in the other store the guy yelled at me for not purchasing a fabric he had "gone to the trouble to pull out for me") and I didn't feel like he would be mad if I didn't purchase from him. That made me want to purchase from him, and so I did. I do have to say that he also called me "honey" several times and I didn't love it, but it didn't feel as condescending as in the other shops. read more

International buyers beware! We purchased Sunbrella fabric from affordable home fabrics and had it shipped to Canada. Purchase price $311. When we received the package via UPS we were charged an extra $144 in brokerage fees and taxes. Most businesses large and small don't declare the value, record the vendors cost or it is included in the shipping charge to show the customer the real cost of the product. If we would have known the cost would be so high we would have shopped elsewhere. read more

I had a FABULOUS experience at Affordable Home Fabrics. I had been to a few different fabric stores looking for fabric to reupholster an old loveseat and I was completely overwhelmed everywhere I went. I felt like no one at the other stores was willing to walk me through options or help me with their vast fabric selections. That's why I was so relieved to find this shop. Frank immediately welcomed me in and asked what I was looking for. He showed me a few options and instead of hovering or pushing for one fabric or another, he allowed me to walk around and explore on my own and was nearby if I had questions. He asked to see the piece I was reupholstering and also complimented a photo of my cat, which was just nice. He took my final choices to the front so I could see them in the light and made sure that I took photos of them with the flash on and off so I could make sure I liked them in all the different lighting situations. He helped me decide on my final option and the check out process was simple and he even brought it out to my car for me. Joey (co-owner) was extremely nice, friendly, accommodating and not pushy at all. He gave me a sample of the fabric I liked and I went on to look at other stores in the area (to see if I could find anything else I liked). I must have walked into 15-20 different fabric stores. Not only did they not have what I was looking for, but presentation of their store is key for me. I literally had to schlep through fabric on the ground and not get the customer service I felt I (and everyone) deserve. I had one guy eating in front of me while I was asking him to see a particular fabric. AHF was clean, they had all their fabrics on rolls hanging from the wall, where you could see the fabric. I'm not a very decisive shopper so was apprehensive about selecting new upholstery fabric for two couches; I get overwhelmed by myriad options. So I was delighted to find how comprehensive and sophisticated AHF's website was. . . with not only a high volume of fabrics, but many filters (manufacturer, etc.) to help narrow down choices. I jotted down a half-dozen names from the site and went down to the store to look at them in person. Frank was extremely gracious. He cut generous swatches of all my selections and a few others. He suggested I run them by my upholsterer to make sure they would be fine for the project.
