They have a huge variety of fabrics and you can probably spend a couple of hours looking around and finding different materials. The cost is pretty fair and the employees are so kind and helpful. The lady that helped us both times we went in was so sweet and she even went looking for a specific fabric design we were looking for and eventually found the perfect one. The only downside is parking is atrocious and just be resigned to the fact that you're going to spend $20 at one of the small lots and don't be fooled by the $3 parking because in tiny small print it says the first 15 minutes is $3 with a maximum parking fee for the day is $20.

While in the area might as well check the stores. We went here specifically for fabrics. My son is into sewing right now so this place has a wide selection of different types of fabrics. They also have accessories. Are they cheaper - maybe/ maybe not but my son wanted to see fabrics so that's why we are here. He picked up some items and accessories he needs, we also got a roll of pattern paper and a yard of fabric he will use to "practice with" Service is easy - pick a fabric and bring it to the table and they'll cut it for you. Spent $80 on a bunch of stuff. Let's see if my son actually makes something out of it. He did enjoy looking and browsing over their fabrics and accessories.

Skip that and head to the piles of fabric towards the side and back of the store. The only thing I couldn't find there was on brand fabrics like Hello Kitty and the Nightmare Before Christmas. I could not be more thankful that this gem exists AND that it's conveniently close to my main work location. I've quilted on and off since 2008, but when I moved to LA in 2016, my sewing machine and fabric took very, very long naps. When my boss announced she was pregnant, I knew I wanted to make her a baby quilt. After hours of Googling fabrics, I walked into Sewing Arts thinking I knew exactly what I wanted. HA. Jokes on me. In fact, jokes on me every single time I walk in thinking I know what I want. Contrary to some of these other reviews, the ladies at Sewing Arts are some of the kindest, most patient humans I've ever met. Even when I'm standing there overwhelmed by *gestures broadly* literally everything, they're endlessly helpful. Sewing Arts was my introduction to Ruby Star Society, which has since become my absolute favorite modern fabric line. I swear they carry every bolt from every collection (until it sells out). The selection is remarkable! There's also a bountiful selection of patterns, notions, materials (quilting cottons, linen, rayon), cross point kits, etc. etc. And the best part? The community. On my very first visit, Kathleen asked if I knew about the local quilt guild. I didn't at the time but now the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild (LAMQG) is what I lovingly call "quilt club," and I look forward to every monthly meeting (held at Sewing Arts!). The guild nights even come with a lovely member discount on fabric... dangerous for my wallet but wonderful for my soul. The only downside for me has been their long-arming service, which I've tried twice with less-than-great results, especially for the price, so I won't be going for a third try. Also, masks are still required, which you'll see mentioned in many reviews but the owners stand firm on the policy and even provide free masks at the door. There are a plethora of classes also available here (garments, quilting, etc.) so whether you are a beginner sewist, an expert, or somewhere in between - there's likely a class for you! All that to say, Sewing Arts has truly given me both inspiration and community. Five stars forever!!!

It's a small, family-run, local business, so it's much more deserving of our business than Amazon or Michaels. Prices are good, too. I will say this, though. The owner's son is there full-time, so we see him enough. He's always been professional and helpful, just a bit cold. But I just noticed today that he's so warm to virtually everyone else who walks in the door, and has conversations with them! When we walk in, he does not greet us and will not speak to us unless we directly ask him something. We're not loud or demanding, I just get the sense that he does not like us. I still highly recommend this local business. I'm just saying, if you feel a difference in treatment from your fellow shoppers from the son, just know that you are not alone.

There is a small lot next to the store but it might be reserved for the restaurant next door. I parked in the residential area right next to the store, so I did not notice if the lot was specific to the restaurant only. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. Was fun to just browse all of their items and it was nice to have a dog to pet!

My mother and I traveled 3 hours to the fabric district to purchase fabric for our new business. We had no idea the district was so huge and it could be easily overwhelming. Affordable Home Fabrics was one of the first stores we entered. We met Frank and another gentlemen whose name I didn't get. They were so kind and helpful. We wanted to look around the district a little more before purchasing anything. Every other store we entered seemed unorganized and chaotic to say the least. Not one person offered to help us either. Needless to say we went back to see Frank and made our Fabric purchases there. I cannot say enough good things about this store and the gentlemen who helped us. The store is clean and organized. These guys know their fabric and were so helpful when we were trying to match fabrics together. They aren't just trying to get a sale, they genuinely care. I make custom window treatments and other home decor. I found Affordable Home Fabrics through Etsy and from that first purchase, it is my first shop to go. I know quality and I guarantee that you will always receive high end quality and at an incredible price point. Which I have found, is hard to find! I started to work with the owner, Joey, and truth be told, I have never dealt with such a great person and if he does not have it, he will do his utmost to find it. I moved back home to Kentucky from Chicago. The fabric store in Chicago is similar to Joey's store. However, that is where the similarities end! You had to hunt down someone to even help you and they could be to the point of rude if you asked a question that they did not have the answer. I recently dealt with Joey finding the right color of a contrast color and he picked dead on. So whether you are local or from a distance, you can not go wrong! read more

I visited AHF yesterday. The selection & quality of decorator fabrics is wonderful. I found a beautiful piece & bought the entire bolt at a fabulous price. The store is clean, easy to go through & see the merchandise. It is a comfortable showroom. Frank is friendly, knowledgeable & so very helpful. I left my purchase there to pick up later & he called to remind me to come back! I parked a short 2 blocks away. Thanks for a great shopping experience. read more

The lights were on in EVERY SINGLE other part of the store. I was screaming for help and everyone was laughing and joking in another language, then they proceeded to close the gate in the front instead of coming to ask what I needed so that we can quickly leave. I happen to be designing for a new collection so I needed over 100 yards and they missed a major sale. As I was exiting, no one spoke to me and everyone stared, as it was evident that I didn't know how to get out. I hope they hire a better management team and people with manners because you never know who you're assisting.

We also purchased some glorious patterned fabric to cover pads and cushions in our "cuddle puddle". We've gotten wonderful feedback on how our Hall looks! When we first approached Rex Fabrics in 2019, we had no idea what the process for buying fabric was - in fact we just walked in the front door! The staff was very accommodating of our basic questions, helped us examine a broad array of fabric choices (they have so, so many, including in many wonderful colors and patterns), and we felt made us a fair price. When we needed to return a couple of years later to add more fabric to our structure, the Rex team was able to retrieve our previous order quickly to help us get more of what we needed. Unfortunately looking for 100% linen in my area was like looking for a needle in a haystack. I was willing to drive downtown, but was not looking forward to foraging from shop to shop, never being completely sure the fabric content was what was being represented. Fortunately I came across BH Linen online and after confirming that they did have a showroom that sold to the public, I made my way there. First of all, I would never have discovered it if I hadn't known where to go first. The unassuming showroom is located on the third floor of an old building, but once I got there WOW!!! I was blown away. There were bolts and bolts of gorgeous linen in all sorts of different colors, weights and finishes. It was hard to decide. I found the gentlemen who attended me to be knowledgeable, (patient), and very helpful. I would definitely recommend them either in-person or online.
