Did a virtual Santa on the Loose 5k with a small group at Palm Coast Linear Park…read more I was curious what makes it a "linear" park and as the name indicates a linear park is a park in an urban or suburban setting that is substantially longer than it is wide. A coworker from Palm Coast recommended this spot as our meet up point. It's 57-acres which features a playground, picnic pavilions, hiking and biking trails, shuffleboard, bocce ball and bird watching and (well-maintained) restrooms. There's even a bicycle maintenance station. A few benches are sprinkled throughout the path which came in handy for the senior citizen in our group for quick breaks. I wish I had a map though as we weren't quite sure which path would loop around back to our parking spot and Google maps wasn't as clear. At one point, our path lead us by the Matanzas River and we saw dolphins! We will have to come back with our bikes for more exploring.

Apparently, feeding the turtles is a pretty commonplace things here, because the turtles knew the minute they seen human beings to swim towards the bridge and wait for the inevitable downpour of food offerings. There are two entrances to the park. One has swings and all that and the other one really just focuses on the little water there. I would definitely recommend that if you were in the area to stop by. Make sure you bring some kind of food offering for the turtles. There are also plenty of ducks and other birds around and while there are signs asking you not to feed the birds bread, they do say that they like rice and other things.

The dunes feel almost sculpted by time, covered in sea oats that sway just enough to make the whole place feel peaceful. What I love most is that it's a relaxed spot where animals and their owners can simply exist without all the usual chaos of a crowded beach. You see people walking their dogs along the sand or letting them explore the edges of the dunes, and the whole scene feels calm and genuine. Even as someone who doesn't have a dog myself, I like watching those little moments where animals seem perfectly content and humans look just as relaxed. I think that's why Old Salt Park sticks with me. It's not trying to be a polished postcard beach. It's a little wild, a little rugged, and completely unbothered by perfection. The kind of place where nature feels honest and the atmosphere feels easy. It gives you room to breathe, to think, to just take in the view without any pressure. And even without a dog, I can appreciate a place that lets people and their pets be themselves. You can get there by paying for the toll bridge from I95, or you can get there free by going in from the beach's south in Palm Coast.

This is what I would call a roadside attraction as it literally is right there!…read more So first I must say that the address will take you to an intersection so from here your gonna wanna continue down Old Dixie highway as it's about a mile away from here but it comes up quickly so keep your eyes peeled so you don't miss it! This is more or less a ruin of what it once was but the history is totally here as you can see just how much work it was having this facility in the swamp as it's literally in the heart of it! The area is fenced off but for good reason as I'm sure if you were to get closer to the structure it might not be that safe. We spent a little bit here as it was quite fascinating to just enjoy the structure and the atmosphere. Overall a super cool part of Florida's history that you should totally check out if your in the area as who doesn't love sugar and rum!
