Very quiet on the day we visited. We were hoping for a lively place to hang out until we could check-in to our AirBnB. The staff was friendly but not real knowledgeable about the wine. First the good news: this place is lovely. We went on a Sunday, and enjoyed a fabulously talented band. Despite the rain, we stayed dry in an expansive wedding tent. The woodfired pizza was excellent. Now the bad news: the winery is apparently in legal trouble with the neighbors, and it's easy to see why. The main entrance was washed out, and our GPS erroneously directed us to go down a neighboring driveway. After backtracking we saw the tiny handwritten cardboard sign directing us to the actual alternate entrance. I'd suggest to the owners that they try to address the misrouting problem with Apple Maps (and perhaps others), and/or put up a bigger sign. My first choice of drink (their own branded orange seltzer) was so cloyingly sweet that I couldn't drink it and actually poured most of it out (my friend really liked the cranberry cider flavor, though). The wine I got to replace my drink was just OK. I'm not a wine snob by any means, but if this is the best PA can produce it's not surprising that the region isn't known for winemaking. I wish Moon Dancer well and hope they make it. I'd love to be invited to a wedding there! read more

Saw their ad for the red white and blue festival. $25.00 at the door, $20.00 ahead of time! Very deceiving ad. Showed oven baked pizza and a pig roast with 3 bands from 2:00 to fireworks. Got there at 2:00. Got hungry around 4:30, walked up to where the food was. $16.00 for a 10" pizza as thin as a dollar bill with very little sauce and cheese on it,. $7.00 for 1 beer. No way was I gonna ask about the pig! $50.00 for the evening! The way the ad was presented, you felt the food was included. Great job by the advertising company! We left after the 3rd band started playing, I figured they were gonna charge for the fireworks also so most people left! Never again! read more

This place has a lot of potential, but is currently falling very flat. I have been there two times, both during the Covid-19 pandemic. The first time we went, the service was horrible. A host stand for outside seating that has no host, so people just sort of congregate there until they seat themselves, or a wandering server walks by. Then once seated, it takes anywhere from 15 to 30 mins for a server to actually come to the table. We ordered a bottle of Riesling, a wood fired pizza, and some waters. The wine and food was all delivered about an hour later. So be prepared to put in 1 1/2 hours until you get your stuff. They said they were adapting to Covid and staffing etc so we let that first visit slide. We just went back this past Labor Day weekend to try it again. Granted, we are now 8 months into the pandemic, and if it's possible, the service got worse! There were plenty of servers now, but they all just sort of wander around with food in their hands, until someone flags them down to claim the food. It's very weird. Also, where everyone else is going the extra yard to clean, sanitize, and make people feel comfortable, Moon Dancer doesn't wipe the tables between use (we asked twice but they never came back) and they have a sign to wear a mask, but they do not enforce it at all. People are walking all over the place with no mask and no one says anything. My daughter works at an outdoor bar during this time period and they are constantly telling people to put on masks when walking around, so it is very enforceable. This is just lazy, but goes along with the rest of the management of Moon Dancer. The grape vines surrounding the outdoor seating area are all overgrown with weeds and look like they're dying. I can't even believe they can use the grapes to make wine. Seems like they're there for the visual, but it's not working as they all look dead. The pizzas are pretty good, and the views of the river are great, but the service is still negative 5 stars and we won't be back. They really need to spruce the place up, hire a new General Manager and replace the server staff. Possibly the slowest service I've ever received anywhere or anytime. read more

We have wanted to go to Moon Dancer for a few years, but due to scheduling it just hasn't happened. Yesterday we had friends from out of town and decided to go and give it a shot! I will admit the drive up to the winery would and could be scary if some fool was coming down the road and not willing to move over. Luckily, we didn't run into that. It is a steep dirt road that is super bumpy, but luckily we had the Jeep, so no issues. My car would have struggled. When we got there we kind of wandered until we found the patio that was fairly busy. We realized the tasting room was right off the patio and went in to see if our friends had arrived. They hadn't, so we waited for them to taste. It was a few bucks to taste, which is the norm for this area now. We were able to share a tasting, which was nice! The service was as fast as it could be because everyone was in line for refills as we were tasting. I was not blown away by their wine, but their sangria was amazing! We got a bottle to share. We ordered a brick oven pizza and went to sit on the patio. Oh and that view. Moon Dancer has the most breathtaking views. You can see the countryside, you can see horses in the fields, you can see the river. It is absolutely beautiful. I want to go back in the fall because I'm sure the view is even more breathtaking. Leaving is back down the same bumpy dirt road, which is why you should always have a designated driver. Our friends wanted to get bottles to take home, but something happened with their register. The wine here is just okay, but the music and view is great. A lot of the grapes come from elsewhere and I felt like the wine was pretty acidic. The kitchen offers food which is a nice option, when we attended the pizza place on the back porch was not open. When we ordered the chips and hummus it was literally a single serving pack of Sabra hummus. What a letdown, hummus is SO easy to make. The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, with the fireplaces blocked off etc. But overall for what it is and where it is we was pleasantly surprised. One thing we particularly enjoyed was the live music that was there, which was amazing. Looking forward to returning in the summer and hopefully they earn another star. read more

terrible Has gone down hill. I have been there a number of times before. The issues--(1)-- although Nov FLIES inside everywhere . when questioned why no fly strips No real answer. I can understand one or 2 that come in from outside but the amount was ridiculous. (2)-- odered a cheese and cracher tray. They did NOT bring out a prewrapped cheese block or pre wrapped crackers,they just cut up some vheese and threw a dozen crackers in Afew stale grapes and stale nuts. STALE The cheese was not edible -it was drying out. TWO BIG ISSUES --the food itself was old and stale and second THE HYGIENE of who ever put the stuff in the hefty plastic container and the FLIES that were there. It was so bad i am sending a letter to the health dept. (3)-a - we went outside and discovered the terrible food condition and went in to return. NO ONE at counter There was a notice call this cell phone number if you need help. I figured screw i will wait and just go back after finish drinks and return it STILL NO ONE THERE AVOID Do not eat their tupperwear food read more

We came in for wine and snack and we're very disappointed with the service . They didn't have two of their wines that were listed and were not at all helpful in getting us something we would like instead . They acted like having customers was a huge inconvenience. I had never seen anyone move so slow in my life too. We had to write down the wines that we wanted for her while we were standing at the counter right in front of her, not even circle options off a list. Normally this kind of crap service I can justify by saying they were busy but they were pretty much empty and had so many people working, or just standing around talking. Also they don't turn the ovens on before 5 but they don't have that information out there, so we couldn't get anything. To eat. We asked about their charcuterie board since you don't need an oven for that and they said they didn't have somethign needed .... We later overheard them talking it it was just grapes or something dumb that we could have easily just not had. Overall it was such a crap experience, the building has potential bc the view is awesome when they don't have their $200/ evening igloos up blocking it and the building would be nice with better lighting decor and paint. I'm looking forward to the day that these people run their business into the ground and someone with a little sense takes over! I have mixed feelings about Moon Dancer. The way up to the winery is a tiny one lane driveway type of a road. Up a steep hill. So what happens if someone is coming down when you're driving up? Do you go down over the side and roll your car? Makes no sense. Scared my mother. The place has an awkward layout. You have to walk through a maze of tables to get to the tasting room hidden in a back corner of the building, and down a hallway. There ought to be a door that leads straight to the tasting room instead of that crazy zig zag route. One star gone. When we walked in, we felt like we were intruding because there was a band playing to a dozen people. The band was way too loud for the space. Another star gone. The service was pleasant but clearly they were understaffed. Our server had to go get wine bottles out of the fridge to open and keep excusing herself to take care of random things like truffle fries for someone in the main room where the band was playing. They needed another person staffing INSIDE. there were a couple of guys standing around doing basically nothing outside. Third star gone. One star for wine and one for hard cider. They have a nice mix of dry wines and sweet wines. We are sweet wine people and they had a good array of fruit wines and three hard ciders. There was one ice wine. Stopped here once for the afternoon. Turned out to be a very fun afternoon. Moon Dancer Winery is a very large mansion / chateau on several acres overlooking the beautiful Susquehanna River, just outside of Wrightsville PA. There's lots of local artwork, paintings, photographs and jewelry (as well as logo tasting glasses) for sale throughout the building. They have samples for most of their wines that are sold there (18-32 a bottle), at a small bar inside. There's live music every weekend (2-5pm), and they have special weekend Festivals (20.00 per person) where food + wine are available for sale. While reading some of the other reviews here I will agree, my one star is for the view and location certainly not the service. I went as part of a wine trail and this winery is listed the on card that you pay $35 for as a couple. I sat my wine trail glasses on the bar and laid the wine trail ticket down. The server looked at me and said oh we don't get many wine trail people here and I don't even know where the stamp is to stamp your card. The other server grabbed a sharpie and marked it and again remarked how on one comes here on the wine trail anymore. After going there, I now see why. The server took a drink of his soda and said we each got 4 tastings as part of the wine trail. I asked for one and my husband asked for one. Server poured one tasting in one glass and looked away. I tasted it and thought it was the wine that I had asked to taste. My husband asked again for his tasting. Server said oh that is the one you asked for. I said I had also asked for a tasting. He finally said oh and poured my tasting. I could not tell the wines apart. My husband then asked for a red wine to taste and then the server took another drink of his soda. I then just got he feeling that I was being an inconvenience to him at this point, no small talk or even a smile. I have worked several serving positions and his horrible customer service is a sure way to make zero tips. Every other winery on the trail offered different pairings and special tastings. This winery acted as if we were bothering them. Oh and they were closing early due to a special event. The wine was mediocre at best. Will not be returning. Again, great potential as others have said in their reviews, but management needs to do better and maybe some customer service training for your employees. read more

Below average wine and average ciders, Moon Dancer has a nice views but you can go elsewhere for spirits. On paper, Moon Dancer is the type of winery/cidery I enjoy - off the beaten path in a rural part of PA, with a beautiful view of the Susquehanna River. It's a very rustic area, with nearby friendly dogs and goats loitering outside. They seem to be a fairly active wedding venue (a little high in my opinion), with a very nice patio and facilities. Alas, if only the wine and cider were better. If you love dry wines you can safely cross this one off your list, as even the dry wines have a sweet taste. I guess the dry whites are the best - the Pinot Grigio and the Wild Naked Chardonnay - but eh on the flavor profile, coming in rather bland. The reds taste closer to Welch's grape juice, having little to no body or tannin structure and lacking any form of complexity. The cider is a little bit better, still sweet but that's more acceptable in a cider, and I have to admit the pumpkin cider was intriguing. Your experience at Moon Dancer Winery will depend on what you're looking for in your wine. If you want sweet, easy to drink wines similar to juicy juice, you'll probably really enjoy your time here. But if you're looking for any sort craftsmanship and complex flavors, you'll be sorely disappointment. This is a safe skip for wine snobs. read more

Do you know that scene in Big Fish when Ewan McGregor escapes the swamp and arrives in this glade where everyone is dancing under vintage Edison bulbs and Steve Buscemi is a successful poet? Well, that's what it felt like we stumbled into when we made a late night detour to pick up a bottle of wine for our trip. The winery is a bit off the beaten path, but it is open late on a Friday evening. As it turned out, Moon Dancer Winery was hosting a Latin dance night with cigar rolling--one of many scheduled music festivals the vineyard hosts. We skipped the fiesta for a quick tasting. Wine is, I've found, a very personal experience. But the wines and ciders we shared were, at best, not to my taste. We settled on a few bottles of cider--the least saccharine beverage we sampled--instead of vino. The most exciting feature to the winery was the outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. We split a vegetarian pizza and a side of sweet potato fries, and both come highly recommended. While the visit was a fine respite in our long drive, like Ewan McGregor we quickly outgrew our ambition and got back on the road. 5 star venue, 1 star winery. read more

As I rolled over the stars to rate this establishment, the yelp rating guide prompted, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" And that is the truth. Right from the start let me say that I like wine, but I am not a connoisseur. I know the basic rules (usually white wines with white meats, red wines with red meats and sauces). I know when I take a sip if I like it or not. So maybe I have no business giving Moon Dancer 5 stars. But never one to play entirely by the rules, that's what I'm doing! Why? Because as an overall experience, Moon Dancer can't be beat. (Make sure you access the website for some pictures.) Getting to the Winery means staying alert for signs - not very big ones - and being willing to traverse some winding and unpaved roads. But that's half the fun! You wind around and around, passing some lovely old stone houses and barns, and some splendiferous new homes (that look like they are transplants from the Magic Kingdom). Your car takes on a semi-vertical slant, you navigate through the clouds of dust your car kicks up as it bumps along the road, and then all of a sudden, VOILA! There it is, a chateau set on rolling lands, overlooking the Susquehanna River. You walk up a slate path lined with lavender plants, and go through the stained-glass front door. The entry room is spacious and cool, and boasts artwork (for sale) gracing the walls. There is also a fireplace that I assume is used during the cold months. (I've only ever been here during the summer.) To the left is the bar, kept by extremely friendly wait staff who seem to be mostly friends and family members of the owners. There are wine crackers on the bar, which you can munch between sips of the free samples (limit of 5). After you make your choice you head out to the patio and select your table. (Each table has an umbrella, which is welcome as a shelter from the sun.) The patio leads to a large expanse of lawn with a few picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, and a bocce ball set. The lawn is also a great place for kids to play, and I've even seen some pets that people have brought along. Once ensconced at your table, crack open your picnic basket, pour your wine, and mellow out as you view the Susquehanna in the distance and enjoy the live music. I may not live in the Magic Kingdom, but when I'm at Moon Dancer, I fell like a queen. read more

Visited for one of their Music and BBQ festivals. ($20 entrance fee) The bands were folksy and lively. Their were tables and chairs all around a patio and lawn surrounding the band stand but you may wish to bring your own blanket and find a spot on the lawn. The BBQ roasted pig and chicken were nothing special but didn't stop us from getting several helpings for $4-6 a plate. The wine tastings is free but the wine by the bottle ranges from $14-35. Better than some wines that I've tasted in NY/NJ but not as good as Napa/CA. Overall it was a very fun afternoon/evening of music, bbq, and wine under the moonlight! Fine wine in an arty/romantic, ambient atmosphere. That's Moon Dancer Winery. We visited during the Uncork York wine-tour extravaganza, and we were utterly charmed. The winemaker is very knowledgeable and friendly; they book quality bands; and the wine is the best in the area. The building is reminiscent of a European chateau--shades of France and Italy -- and the decor is beautifully understated. Definitly a great, relaxing place to meet friends, hear some good music, hold a function or spark a little romance. There is even a pretty little stone patio with a view of the countryside. I was disappointed by my experience. The positive parts were that the view was lovely and the outdoor seating area is very nice. The wine was good and they have unique options with a lot of flavor. However, that's where my good review stops. It took some time for my group to be acknowledged while we stood at the tasting counter. Overall the tasting was a bit of a let down. It ended up costing only $2 for 5 tastes, but I'd rather have a free bad tasting, or pay more for a good tasting. The wine tasting attendants really just functioned as bartenders and made no effort to explain the wines. They even seemed annoyed whenever my group wanted to try our next wine in the flight. One of the bartenders also reeked of cigarette smoke. There were no water or discard pitchers to rinse the glasses between wines. I was also shocked by the number of people outdoors who were sneaking their own beer and wine to their tables to drink. We ordered the pizza, which was fine but I wonder if they just put premade pizzas on the wood fire, because the pizza wasn't very flavorful. In summary, I'd recommend their wine, but only to purchase a bottle and enjoy it elsewhere. read more

We recently purchased a few cases of wine for a special event and the experience couldn't have been worse. We ordered our wine in April and we paid for it in advance. Over the next 2 months our calls, emails and inquiry into the status of our order went unanswered. When our wine was finally done one week before our event we were very disappointed. Our labels were crooked, a few of their labels on the back of the bottles were torn and crooked, and the wine has visible sediment in the bottle. The winery itself is beautiful if you don't go on a wet day unless you like walking through mud. Of all the venders we delt with for our event this winery was absolutely the worst one. I can not recommend this winery to anyone unless you like being treated rudely, ignored and have very low expectations on the quality of wine and service. read more

It seems that you must need to know the owner to get good service. Here are a list of thing experienced that will make us think again before visiting. 1. We purchased a bottle of wine and we receive plastic cups to drink out of (who goes to a winery to drink out of plastic cups) 2. We ordered a pizza (which was amazing) but as one pizza came out and went to a table that didn't seemed to order one there was so much confusion and we waited for over 45 minutes to get ours. It seemed like the blame was put on the printer. Suggestion, fix the printer! 3. Upon asking for wine glasses for wine slushies (which were also really good), another worker told our server to make sure not to fill them all the way. I get what is reasonable portion but to say that in front of a customer seems inappropriate especially when paying good money. In fairness, the products this winery produces are really good and would be more than willing to purchase more however if you are looking for great and organized service you better off sticking to the Virginia wine country. read more

Was SO unimpressed with the Mother's Day brunch at Moon Dancer. I had to apologize to my mom for taking her there. It was 30 dollars a person and 15 for children and not worth 5 dollars a person. First, there were no plates at the buffet when we got there. Waited several minutes for plates. Never got the omelet I ordered from a ten year old boy. Which is fine with me because the ones I did see were brown. The waffles were also burnt. There was one selection of juice, and no water to be found. The food was so picked over it was pathetic and was not replenished for a long time, if at all. The salmon was also over done and not even cut into pieces, so you had to scrape a hunk of salmon from the skin with a serving fork. This was my first experience at Moon Dancer, and I will not be coming back. ( I actually joined yelp to share this with the public and hopefully the owners- please don't host events you cannot accommodate with both staff and food.) read more

I recently visited Moon Dancer Winery and really enjoyed it. It is a beautiful setting overlooking the Susquehanna River. There are quite a few different choices in wines. The owners are super friendly and knowledgeable about wines. We spent the first part of out visit inside the tasting room sampling the wines that were available at the time. Later we were able to tour the downstairs where all of the wine making takes place. And to finish out out visit we bought some wine and enjoyed in out back on the brick patio with some of the owners. A group of 7 of us went to this winery on Friday February 26th. We had rented an igloo. We arrived around 7:30 and learned that they were selling out of wine quickly. When it was my turn to order I had a rude young lady wait on me becausethe gentlemanthat we were dealing with had to step away. I simply asked to try the cider. She then with an attitude asked what kind. When I told her she said well if it's not in the fridge we don't have it. Being new to the winery I had no idea how things ran. Not only was I annoyed at the rudeness of this person but how can a winery be sold out of all of their cider on a Friday at 7:30pm? The igloo , company, and our host were great but I do not believe I will go back. I am also a newly engaged bride looking for a venue and this place is definitely off my list. I was excited to come to your winery to check out your cider and see the place but I was turned off by the one girl and the fact that you ran out of cider that early.
