Moon Hing is one of the few Chinese restaurants we hadn't made it to since we moved to the area a few years ago, but we recently had the chance as we were in town for something else. I found it was fairly typical in its selection and quality, though perhaps there were more Szechuan and Mandarin choices than usual. We didn't select from that list. They have a roomy sit down area, but we didn't did takeout, which we normally do except for the rare Chinese buffets. We were too late for the luncheon specials, so we selected from the dinner specials. My wife ordered (B), with fried rice, broccoli and boneless ribs, and I went with (H) with lo main, chicken wings and crab Rangoon. I also ordered a small order of fried wontons as an appetizer. It was a generous pint for the reasonable price of $3.50. We had no complaints about either of our selections. In fact, I tried her bbq pork, which I usually find to be hard to chew, and it was better than I expected. As usual, we saved half of the food for a second meal. We will go back, I am sure. So, spent over 30 dollars on 2 menu items, which were different - chicken with cashew nuts and szechuan pork. However, both entries were mostly celery and carrot, very cheap veggies. The szechuan pork was not what you would expect, but diced up sliced roast pork. Mushrooms were from a can, and not fresh. I was also amazed there was zero rice in the bag, and that there was no mention during ordering that "rice is not provided". A la carte, rice is 6$ for a quart -- I can get a bag of rice (5lb) for that money of sushi grade rice. Also during ordering I was asked about sauces, so presume they are not standard and you pay extra.. I didn't want anything, but still I was thrown fortune cooking in the bag (and probably charged for them). I fed them to a red squirrel the next day. Not impressed with the cousins, nor the value. Two stars as I was able to salvage the dish by making rice noodles in a jet boil in the parking lot and mixing it in, as a substitute for the lack of rice. Food quality is good. Seems like this location is trying to get back up and running with sit down service. My biggest gripe is related to service. One person running the front, handling a gentle out service and trying to seat patrons for dinner was causing a huge backup. Portions are big and tasty. Prices are appropriate for the amount of food. The inside is dated though. Wall paper peeling off the walls, rugs need to be replaced as they are very worn. They do not have their liquor license yet, the bar has bottles but they are all empty. The food in this place is great. We had family in town and family wanted to visit a friend in Dover-Foxcroft. We asked him where does he want to go for lunch and he said Moon Hing. It's Chinese and I'm always game for Chinese. The food here is delicious and its portion is huge. There is plenty of room in this place so great for large groups. I got chicken subgum and it was flavorful fresh and yummy. At first glance of the fried rice it didn't bring hope but once you taste it, you will change your mind. I did. Tastes better than it looked. Will definitely travel 40 minutes out of town to come here. If you live locally no reason why you shouldn't try this place. Try it and you'll be pleasantly surprised. We're from California & here in Maine real chow Maine is the opposite it's lomain here. So she showed us that yes they do noodles like this just with a different name. We ordered two large boxes of the noodles. $25. Those noodles were the worst we've ever had of any noodles anywhere.They weren't even good there was literally no flavor at all to them. Got sweet and sour chicken, but they forgot the sauce. The chicken is wrapped in dough and fried, and especially by itself taste like wet, soggy cardboard. I doubt it would be better with sauce. I have been to Americanized Chinese places across the country. Including NYC/Boston. 50+ easily, including most chains. Every region has a different style so if you grew up with NYC style Chinese you will most likely like it more which isn't to say it's not good food just different styled food. What many of the reviewers forget is the basics of dining. Was the food fresh, hot, flavorful. Was the staff nice, drinks on time, not kept waiting etc. That said, Moon Hing is one of many great restaurants in the area. The food is consistent, relatively cheap and tastes great. I have yet to run into any issues with the staff and they have always been pleasant to me. when compared to other Chinese places in the area I would put it near top of the list. There are easily 6+ Chinese food places in Bangor alone, Dexter, Lincoln, Millonocket. I would also put this near top of chain for those I have visited across the country, including NYV/Boston. The Rangoon needs a bit of help but I love everything else. read more

Listen carefully when I say this: This is the BEST Americanized Chinese food I have EVER had. It is ADDICTING! The funny thing is that it's lodged in the middle of a small town in the dead-center of Maine. The only Asian family around is the one who owns the restaurant. And believe me, they must make BIG money because it's always pretty much full, and it's considered "expensive" for the area. Egg Rolls: I still can't find egg rolls that compare to these. So SO good, and crunchy... Their duck sauce is home-made (I think) and unlike any I've ever had. I haven't been able to find that duck sauce anywhere else. :( Wonton soup: Pretty standard, but always good! Crab rangoon: AMAZIIING crab rangoons. I have no idea if there's any crab in them, but yum yum yum. I don't remember the rest of the food (entrées), since I was recovering from the amazingness of the egg rolls, but it was very decent. I have been to a minimum of 50 different chinese places all over the United States. Moon Hing is by far the top in numerous categories. I wish this place was not in Dover-Foxcroft,ME so everyone else could share in the enjoyment. The staff is fast and friendly, sometimes too fast with the food. The food is always extremely hot and I have never sent an order back, nor have I ever seen one get sent back. The crab rangoon are the best around, and that title applies for their BBQ chicken app. and the duck sauce. The duck sauce is a caramel brown....and it tastes better than any other that I've ever had. Last thing....if you are only going to go there once, spend the money and get the General Gao. I Check the web page and yelp and trip advisor and every thing say 7days a week 11am to 9pm..I arrive at 6:55pm and walk towards the un inviting front and a cigarette smoking employee says oh take your time and my response just drove 45min in search of Good Chinese food and she says did you order already, nope just looking to place a Togo order..oh wow we close at 7pm sorry come back tomorrow but all the internet info says 9pm closing and then she informed me but sir it takes money to change the hours.wow so. I have eaten here 4 times. This afternoon will make the fifth time. Both my wife and me like the Moon Hing. We have "dined in", twice and had "take out " twice. Pros : Service has always been good. Waitresses are very professional and cordial which is not common in the state of Maine. I love their Chinese mixed vegetables with the dark sauce. Tried the white sauce and didn't like it. The Steak Teriyaki w/ pork fried rice is excellent also. I had a sizzling seafood dish that I cannot remember the name. It also was very good. Portions are good as well. Cons : I am a fan of Peking dumplings. The closest they have to it is "pork dumplings". The dumplings themselves are good but the dipping sauce is disappointing. This is an American Chinese restaurant, so once you understand this is not authentic Chinese food - its great food. Many of the Asian students in the area who visit the restaurant say its better than what they find in New York or Boston, when it comes to American Chinese. Service on Friday and Saturday nights can be a little slow, but well worth the wait! read more

The only chinese in town. Have been to Moon Hing on several occasions. Usually get the sweet and sour chicken and the wonton soup. They are completely mediocre. The scallion pancakes are great. Service is terrible. Honestly, the lack of competition is the only thing this place has going for it. read more

the crab rangoon here is phenomenal and delicious. the egg rolls are awesome too. Love the butterfly shrimp and chicken fingers too.

Foods alright, very typical, nothing that really stands out. We usually do take out, but the few times we've sat inside were disappointing. The food was the same of course, and very prompt. The wait staff is another story. Most we've had lacked in manners entirely, and one made a very uncomfortable remark about me breastfeeding. I have been to Moon Hing several times over the last few years. I have eaten in the restaurant and have taken out. When I order, I get a variety of dishes,with the bill almost always totaling over $100.00. This last trip that i made there will be my last. We were craving Chinese food and decided to stop for takeout. We got there when it first opened and they were not ready to take customers, so we had to wait for 45 minutes for our food. I am not sure why they would open their doors before they were ready to serve. We got the food home, and it was tasteless. The beef chow mein tasted like corn starch soup. The fried rice may as well have been just white rice and all of the other dishes were just as bad. They placed garlic pork, which has a sauce, in a styrofoam dish that had melted and it was all over the bag. We ended up throwing everything but the bbq pork away. The lady at the front was really kind of rude...NEVER AGAIN read more
