Seems like time for a 2026 updated review for this local favorite restaurant. Restaurants are thin on the ground here in Dexter so we are of course pleased this is such a good one. Our most recent visit was as usual a positive experience. It was our traditional late spring breakfast to welcome a friend after her drive north for her summer residence here. Part of the tradition is a cup of hot cocoa because, even though the weather was quite warm when she arrived, the first time we did this it was her late-winter transition north. This time we were so impressed by the new and larger specialty coffee/cocoa mugs that I took a picture of it. Typical Yelper, I know! Related to that, I have also added the drinks portion of the menu, which I had missed when I added menu pictures. The service and the food were good, as usual. I went with the breakfast sandwich and home fries special. I pay a small up charge to have it in one of their large biscuits. It comes with home fries and so is one of the lowest priced meals available here, though I added a side of corned beef hash because I knew I would be bringing some home anyway. Their hash could be from a can for all I know, but I really like the way they grill it and wish I could replicate it at home. I suspect it is the absurdly hot temperature their grill reaches. My wife wasn't able to eat much of her meal of burrito and home fries, but her appetite and taste buds have undergone a transformation over the past several months, so this is situation normal. She ordered a rhubarb muffin to complement her meal and her leftovers joined mine in the takeout container we brought with us. The muffin was fine, though the rhubarb seemed a bit sparse. This from rhubarb lovers, mind you. Our newly arrived friend enjoyed her egg white veggie omelette just fine. read more

Great place to eat and the food is really good I would recommend it to anyone and the staff are very friendly and accommodating

Wait staff can be rude and unprofessional depending on how their day (and perhaps personal life?) is going. Comments about orders are not needed and generally viewed as unwelcome. There is one waitress, a bigger girl, who is always very kind and respectful. She does her job well and knows that personal life doesn't mix with work ethic. I wish I could name her but I don't know it. Prices are fair. Food is fair. Atmosphere is nothing special. read more

This quaint little spot bends over backwards to give you a pleasant meal! The service is quick and personable, the menu is diverse and the food tastes great! They also have amazing breads and other bakery items for purchase. Try the sourdough! read more

Best local breakfast spot in the region! Everything is fresh, hot and delicious! Cannot stress it's a nice spot for those nearby.

Went for lunch on our way through Dexter. We have eaten there a couple times before and always a good meal. My husband had the fisherman's platter which had a huge piece of fish, scallops, shrimp and clam strips. The batter was light and crisp. I had the seafood chowder which was different seafood pieces in rich cream. I also had the salad which was fresh veggies. The meal took awhile to come out, but everything seems homemade, so the wait is understandable. We will definitely be back. read more

Slow..... Don't expect a quick in & out. Good food, I had a fisherman's platter, onion rings & my wife had soup and salad but waiting 45 minutes on a Sunday and it wasn't busy is a challenge. If you have time to burn & want to hang out and joke with staff stop in. read more

The food is amazing! My daughter and stopped for lunch after looking at real estate. I had the haddock burger and it was delicious. My daughter had a burger and said it was very good. The absolutely best though is the onion rings. OMG fantastic! This restaurant is spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly. We will visit again the next time we are in Dexter. I only have one recommendation, the air freshener in the bathroom is really hard to deal with for folks like me who have asthma but other than that everything was wonderful. Thank you. read more

Very good diner/family restaurant Last Friday only one cook on. Food was good. My hash was burnt black on one side of total hash.... That being said you could have made another but I am sure do to the amount of customers you where extremely busy to cook up another batch . And I love hash. So that was the most disappointing part for my experience as I was taking my cousin and my aunt out for brunch before heading home. There meals where outstanding I'd come again as if there where 2 cooks on the food would be a 5 star including the hash ! My aunt loves your place and my cousin really enjoyed his food. Both took home there leftovers as your portions are outstanding ! The waitresses where apologetic about the long wait time. We where fine with it as we shot the breeze and enjoyed your coffee and vanilla cappuccino... All and all ,I'll give 5 stars because I understand the workings of a restaurant and the staff issues that can arise. The wait staff was polite, fun and energetic and I gave them a good tip ! That being said. Please don't serve burnt hash . It's not enjoyable ! Nice place. I'd recommend ! read more

What a great meal! The bread is delicious! I had a veggie omelet and hash browns. The omelette is huge. My husband had the breakfast sandwich and he loved it. Had to be a homemade croissant. The two stars are for the very pleasant and clearly overworked staff. It took nearly an hour to get our appetizer and drink refills, then another wait for entrees. Almost 2 hours total for lunch. The chicken burger was served completely dry on a hamburger bun -- there were not even vegetables on the side. The French fries were undercooked and tasteless, even with gravy and cheese on top. One of the few times in my life that I didn't finish an order of fries. The tuna roll was fine but nothing remarkable. The server was very kind and we really wanted to like this local place. The reviews for breakfast were good so maybe we should have ordered that. read more

We waited for service after we seated ourselves as they instructed us to. Another couple came in and we're seated, then a small bus of about ten people came in and we're seated. The Bus group were waited on immediately while we were obviously ignored after being stared at by the workers. We decided to leave after being so rudely treated. The restaurant is ALWAYS packed with customers...probably die to the pandemic, and most other breakfast places have closed. Great service, the girls are always glad to serve, but the food is a little blah. Alot of times, is overcooked. But the portions are JUST RITE read more

I've gone in several times and each time that I've gone in, the breakfast has been wonderful .The only exception, I don't give it all five stars it's because the service can sometimes be very slow. If you don't have a lot of time, you're gonna get aggravated. read more

My wife and I make it up to Dexter few times a year and this is THE PEACE to have breakfast and lunch. Cooked to perfection. Chipper people here. No skimping on quality of food. This restaurant is a destination, a mainstay and soon to become a landmark. Clean, warm, consistent and pleasant staff. Owner works the floor with family playing support. Like blueberry pancakes? 2 words, short stack. Regular order of 3, not comfortably do-able. Surprise, surprise...a great little place for an eggcellent breakfast! I'm a Hollandaise snob, and these folks make it right. Get the hash and eggs, you can't go wrong. Some of the best homefries I've had in Maine, too. You can get them either grilled or deep-fried and with onions if you like. What a great breakfast stop! They open at 6 am, which was perfect for a long ride home. Service was fast and very friendly. We all had eggs and the scrambled eggs had great flavor. The bacon was very good and one of my kids said that their chocolate milk was superior to other restaurants. Overall, they seem to make their food offerings based on what truly tastes good! The last compliment to pay is the donuts they sell! Definitely grab a "Dirty Donut" to go for a perfect treat later on! You won't regret your visit to Fambily's! read more
