Love local family business and this is no exception. Food was excellent and so was its service.

    Blueberry pancake bacon and eggs

Delicious food, service is slow but that should not deter you from the great food! Breakfast was plentiful. I had scrambled eggs, pancakes, and bacon with great tasting black coffee

Ham & cheese omelet plus a happy wife

The service was uneven. One bar tender was amazing the other was too busy chatting with people to do his job. (He was new, and clearly doesn't get what the mission is.)

Entire waitstaff waiting by the host stand. Dining room was completely, 100% empty. No customers. Before I could fully calculate what a red flag that was, we were asked if we had a reservation. Kind of silly, since the restaurant had zero paying customers at that point, but I let it go; you never know what their upcoming schedule or seating plan looks like. We said, "no reservation, just a table for two please," at which point, we were stopped by the owner/manager/#1 Tough Guy In Charge (older guy with a beard) who pointed to my friend's cup of espresso in hand (we had just gotten coffee at the opera house a few minutes prior and my friend still had a little bit left). Guy says to my friend in a very aggressive, scolding tone, "Yea, we don't allow outside food and drink, so you're gonna need to do something about that coffee." I don't think I've ever encountered that level of confrontational, un-welcoming attitude at a place of business where I was about to spend money, so we just looked at him, then looked at one another and said, "Okay, thanks but no thanks," and walked out the door. The guy made absolutely no attempt to rectify the situation. I think he was oddly happy to see us leave. I mean, I guess rules are rules, and if it's your restaurant you can create and enforce whatever rules you want (kinda runs counter to the whole "hospitality" thing, but what do I know?). But we were ready to spend $60 or so in there and have a nice breakfast. Instead we spent $0 there, and went down the street to Selah and had a fantastic breakfast. If you're in Waterville, ME, be sure to check them out!

WELL let me tell you, it's safe to assume the restaurant is awesome if they win a James Beard award!!! So food, service and ambiance .... Food - Everything we had was awesome! I think you can say it is an 8 course diner including the roll with the whipped maple butter. You're given a few options for your appetizer, entree and desert, while the rest of the courses are standard for the night. I believe the menu, at least in part, changes thru-out the year. All of the dishes were a good size for a bigger menu. Flavors, textures and seasonings for each dish were very thoughtfully crafted, the effort and love is unmistakeable. Our meal was about 3 hours and it really didn't feel like it, everyone left full!!! It's priced at $115 per person, not including drinks or gratuity. Well worth it! Service - while the service was good, our server was prompt and mindful of drink refills as well as getting the order correct, however my one criticism of our dinner was that the service did not meet the standard of dining like this. At this level, you're paying for more, food costs more so the gratuity costs more and the expectation is higher for BOTH! No-one is okay paying for a BMW and getting a KIA. There really is an art and expertise needed to work as a server for a high end restaurant, you cannot serve people like your working at the Olive Garden. It reflects poorly on the restaurant when one of the team doesn't preform to meet the standard, and can affect the dining experience. We didn't care but certainly an area for improvement.... maybe just an off night. Ambiance - the restaurant is tastefully decorated, clean, plain and very spacious. It's not a $30 million building with fancy marble, it's got a small town feel and very comfortable. They don't have the tables packed in there. No-one likes getting their chair kicked or elbow rubbed while eating... Towards the end of the meal we met the chef and owner lulu, who was so down to earth, easy to talk to and very humble... such a nice person. If you're looking for quality fine dining in Maine then I absolutely recommend you make a reservation and take a drive. The Quarry is absolutely a hidden gem.

The only thing holding me back is the crazy wait time on a not so busy Sunday, for the food to be served. Like over an hour wait time for a sandwich and fried fish special. But I digress...on to the good! The fried fish was outstanding! There was a very large amount of flaky fresh haddock that had the perfect coating and was not greasy at all. I would say - some of the best I've had! I opted for the side salad instead of the fries. I'll not make that mistake again. Don't get me wrong, the salad was fresh and very nice...but those fries that came with the Reuben were excellent! I'm not sure, maybe hand cut? They had a great seasoning on them and were so crispy with a soft center. If they are from frozen- I want the company name to figure out where to get some for myself! My husband enjoyed his Reuben as well. Oh, and bonus was that they had my favorite hard cider - freedom's edge, sweet mulled, as well WHICH they served in a chilled glass. Love it! We will definitely be back, but not when we're super hungry or in a hurry to get either upta camp or home. I get things run slower in that neck of the woods, but moving things along in the kitchen a little faster would do wonders for those passing through!
