Reunion has been a breath of fresh air - really good espresso drinks, pastries, and breads. To be 100% honest, Crucible's coffee is better, but their pastry selection is minuscule and they can feel a bit stuffy. Reunion's pastries are good, though I wish they had more French-inspired things like pain au chocolat, croissants, or even soft cinnamon rolls, but I feel they excel more at the breads side of baking. I got a mini sourdough loaf once and it was excellent! Service is always friendly and happy, and the shop itself is cute, but there isn't much space inside. I'm all for tables outside, but there's not much real estate there either, especially on a busy morning. I think a small adjustment to flow could make it easily sit a couple cafe tables inside without it feeling so crowded. I just miss the days of being able to hang out and have good coffee and snacks while doing some work on a laptop. Seems like most businesses would rather have you out the door instead. I have high standards for bakeries and cafes, and Reunion meets most of them. They're now my favorite place to go in the mornings in Staunton... if they're open. I would go there much more often if I could actually eat my breakfast there instead of having to get back in my car or sit in the blistering summer heat.

It made the whole visit feel personal and fun. I cannot wait to try everything that I got and they do mail order so I will be ordering even if I can't get back right away. I'm an Oreo / Cookies and Cream addict. I've never met an Oreo I didn't like... Thin...Regular...Stuffed...Double Stuffed -- You name it, I've eaten it. Now...Imagine my suprise when I found out I could get them at the Farmer's Market 5 minutes from my house!! What?!?!? Of course, you know where I was on Saturday... At the Farmer's Market, checking out Totally Baked. Now let's talk cupcakes. We got half a dozen (yes, I shared). I'll review them as they are listed. Side note: The pictures DO NOT do them justice. If you want to see great pictures, check out her IG page @totallybakedcville -- 1) Cookies and Cream: Ya'll this cupcake had a legit Oreo baked into the cake! Chocolate cake with a light creamy icing. The icing had cookie cumbles and a minature Oreo on top. First bite was great! The mix of cream and cake was amazing. I got a hint of the Oreo in the middle, which made the second bite even better. The cake did a good job of holding up around the cookie. I was worried the cookie might become loose. Great start to the tasting. 2) Chocolate Cherry: I do enjoyed filled cupcakes. This chocolate cake had cherry on the inside of the cake. It was topped with a very light cherry flavored icing. The cherry inside helped keep the cake moist. Solid. 3) Lemon Blueberry: Ok, so this was my least favorite. It was good, don't get me wrong, just not my cup of tea. This was the "suck up" cupcake. I got it to "suck up" to my mother in law. She loves Lemon Blueberry. Again this white cake had blueberry in the middle, topped with a light icing and blueberries on top. Very good, but just not for me. 4) Pistachio: Ummmm.... I'll be honest, I rolled my eyes at first when my better half chose this one. BUT... It was my next favorite after Cookies and Cream. The cake was amazingly flavored. It has just enough of the pistachio flavor to keep me intriged, but sweet enough to keep me around. Paired with the pistachio icing and crumbles, this one is a hit! 5) Sweet and Salty: Solid white cupcake with what tasted like a maple glaze over the cupcake. Pretzel pieces were then placed on top of the icing and glaze. I love the texture the pretzel pieces give the cake. Exactly as it is described... Both salty and sweet! 6) Another Cookies and Cream... What?? You think I wouldn't get two?!? I wasn't sharing that one. Overall, I'm proud that my IG digging found them. I love they are close. They do caterings for any type of event. They even offer free delivery?!?! I mean, if they can't make it any easier. They are officially... on my list!

When we walked it we were overwhelmed with choices. The menu takes up an entire wall and there are sweet, savory and traditional meals to choose from. I'm sure no matter what your preference is, you will find something that meets your palate here. We chose the chorizo, egg and avocado waffle and my wife had the wiskets (waffle+biscuits) and gravy. So this is where things started to become a little disappointing. The staff pointed us to an electronic kiosk to take our order, take a pager, and pay. Oh of course we were asked for a tip. (More on this later) We took a table and waited for our pager. We found silver and napkins at the service counter and wrangled those. When the pager went off, we went up to the counter and retrieved our food. So...the food was really well presented and designed for the Gram. It was tepid at best, and unfortunately, not really flavorful. The waffle was soggy, with more of the consistency of a pancake than a waffle. My wife had the wiskets and I'm not sure if the staff has ever had sausage gravy before, but they may want to try a different formulation. When we finished, we found the Dishroom where we needed to scrape and bus our plates. So if I have to ring up the transaction, seat myself, wait on myself and bus the tables, what am I tipping for? Maybe I'm just salty because we were very near $40 for a mediocre breakfast for two, but the tipping thing just feels a bit tone deaf.
