We were visiting Staunton and wanted to take advantage of the wonderful food scene. We decided on Sweet Addie's because it was a local place with an eclectic waffle based menu. When we walked it we were overwhelmed with choices. The menu takes up an entire wall and there are sweet, savory and traditional meals to choose from. I'm sure no matter what your preference is, you will find something that meets your palate here. We chose the chorizo, egg and avocado waffle and my wife had the wiskets (waffle+biscuits) and gravy. So this is where things started to become a little disappointing. The staff pointed us to an electronic kiosk to take our order, take a pager, and pay. Oh of course we were asked for a tip. (More on this later) We took a table and waited for our pager. We found silver and napkins at the service counter and wrangled those. When the pager went off, we went up to the counter and retrieved our food. So...the food was really well presented and designed for the Gram. It was tepid at best, and unfortunately, not really flavorful. The waffle was soggy, with more of the consistency of a pancake than a waffle. My wife had the wiskets and I'm not sure if the staff has ever had sausage gravy before, but they may want to try a different formulation. When we finished, we found the Dishroom where we needed to scrape and bus our plates. So if I have to ring up the transaction, seat myself, wait on myself and bus the tables, what am I tipping for? Maybe I'm just salty because we were very near $40 for a mediocre breakfast for two, but the tipping thing just feels a bit tone deaf. read more

Small quaint restaurant. Met the owner and she gave us some history on the restaurant. If you go in def ask about it, it's a neat story. The best waffle (Addie's Fav) I have ever had. I would've never thought to put peanut butter in the combo but it was delicious. That particular waffle is an authentic Belgian waffle. My husband got the Sammie and said it was delicious. Do t be afraid to try some of their unique items. Friendly, clean, and a must to try! We were traveling through but would love to stop again. read more

They didn't even try. The waffles were flavorless. All you have to do is add a little cinnamon and sugar to the batter and it wouldn't taste like cardboard. The chicken is tenders. We had a really poor experience this morning when stopping in for breakfast. We were told that they were out of the gluten-free waffles and "were not sure" if they had gluten-free bread. We had some of our own in the car that we offered to bring in but were told it was "against the law." The lack of any care and concern was the most frustrating; there was no apology that they were out of their g-free items. We took our breakfast business down the street to the olive oil company (the whole store is g-free) and Cranberry's (that had lots of g-free substitutions). read more

I wish the menu read that the "fried chicken" was a chicken tender. It was pretty good. The offered bottle drinks ($3) that were not cold and they did not have any ice. Like what? On a hot day? The drink was room temp at best and then no ice? Lost a whole entire star for that. Other than that, we had a great meal but not sure we'd return. This restaurant looks like a cute, inviting space on Staunton's Main Street. Also, it was packed when we visited Staunton for a long weekend. We figured the crowds indicated it would be worth the wait. In the end, we waited 45 minutes for waffles that were cold and indecipherable from anything that I could have gotten from a Motel 6 continental breakfast. The chicken was heated up frozen chicken from a mass distributor. The people working the counter were lovely, and I see they are trying to create something quirky and cozy. Aesthetically, it worked, but the product was notably lacking quality. This should be a hard pass for anyone visiting Staunton unless you want to overpay for "vibes" without substance. read more

The vibe was great! The owner, Elizabeth, took the time to talk with us and to check-in about our food and service. The customer service was top tier. The food was really good. There was a huge menu selection. We had the Plain Jane, Carne Asada and the Basic Breakfast. The Carne Asada was a must have! I would have loved for the basic coffee to be a little hotter, but trying the new mint lemonade made up for it 10 times over! It was fire. Food is average, quickly getting demoted to below average when the wait time is factored in. We stopped in on a Monday morning around 10am, with only a handful of other patrons in the restaurant. Only one couple before us in line. It took 40 minutes to receive a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and pre-cooked potatoes. I have been going here for about five years, in fact it is the first place I ate when I was visiting town before moving here. During that time it has consistently been a weekend favorite, and I go for brunch occasionally when I'm in the mood. I love the food, the staff is friendly, and it's a convenient and pleasant space. There have been a couple of changes of ownership, each one improving upon the restaurant, adding to the menu, and expanding the hours. The only downside is it gets extremely crowded on the weekends and if you go during popular times, the wait can be very long. But it is worth it! read more

Incredibly unwelcoming and unfriendly staff. They were out of coffee (which I had to serve myself) and the woman looked angry at me when I let her know it was empty. The food took forever, was absolutely horrible, and served on a metal tray that looked like something from a school cafeteria. We had to get our food at counter as well as our own silverware out of a crock and bus our dishes into a separate small room with several labeled bins. It felt like we were at a camp. The syrup was maybe Log Cabin (at best) and served in a tiny disposable plastic ramekin (as was the pimento cheese - it wasn't even on the waffle). The country ham was certainly not country ham and the pre- scrambled eggs and sausage were just plopped on top of a waffle. On a metal tray. The waffles were ice cold and hard as a rock (obviously cooked at an earlier time). total cost for four breakfasts $80 (with tip that they collected before they made our food). Delicious! If you are in the area, this is a must try. I had Addie's favorite I think it is called with strawberries and bananas and YUM YUM YUM. I wanted to go back the next day to get it again because it was so delicious. It is a smaller place and they don't take your order until you have a seat. Man, this place has a lot of potential and a great location to be awesome breakfast joint. The selection and creativity shown on the menu, immediately drew us in and raised our expectations. Unfortunately, the quality of some of the food items just didn't measure up (E.g. the fried chicken seemed to be from the freezer bag instead of a freshly made, hand breaded piece). Because of the limited size of the place, and the fact that you must order your food and return to the counter to pick it up, makes the dining area a bit hectic with people standing around, waiting for food and seats, standing by your table while you eat negatively impacts the enjoyment of your meal. The person taking the orders wasn't very friendly (seemed to be annoyed when receiving a special, but simple, request), and the cleaning person chastising patrons for not staying where they could hear their name called (folks had gone outside to wait because of the crowded situation inside) Didn't add to the experience. But, I realize that restaurant staff/people have bad days, as it can be hectic. I believe this restaurant is new, so we will definitely give them another chance a few months down the road and would recommend others give them a try as well. read more

We will be back to try something else. The cinnamon waffle with fruit in top was a miss, but I do want to try other things. It was burned black in the bottom and the waffle had zero flavor. It wasn't sweet it was more like old bread. The shop is so cute and there's plenty to pick from on the menu so we do plan to go back next time we come to town. The service was friendly but I don't think there should be a tip added when the only service is sitting the waffle on the counter for me to walk up and get myself. Fluffy waffles with decadent toppings. Menu includes sweet and savory options. I'd hardly call myself a waffle connoisseur but Sweet Addie's is on its way to becoming a regular thing for me. On the sweet side, I've only tried Addie's Fav and can't bring myself to order anything else because it's that good (strawberries, bananas, liquid Graham cracker, whipped cream). Off the brunch menu, I ordered the Farmers Market (cherry tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and olive oil). It was a bit too much waffle for the amount of toppings/sauce that it came with but was still pretty good. They also have a savory menu that I'm dying to try. They don't serve a lot of the savory options until after 3 on weekends. Learned that the hard way but now I have an excuse to go back. The place is super clean every time I've visited and put together really well. Hanging plants, beautiful wood flooring, and a unique mug collection among many other charming touches. I have tried several times to eat at Sweet Addie's. I do not live nearby, I'm about 45 minutes away. This last attempt really is the LAST attempt though. Last June, on a girls weekend trip to Staunton we stopped by on Sunday for breakfast, so excited after seeing the reviews and menus. It was packed, line out the door and no seating! Great for them, bad for us, we went elsewhere. Yesterday, as a birthday lunch, we made a special trip just to eat there. Google says they are open to 3 pm on Thursday, we park nearby and walk, arriving at 1:30. They are closed. Dark inside except for a gentleman at the counter who clearly sees us trying the door but ignores us. I recheck the hours online, and then call. He answers. I explain we have traveled an hour just to eat here for my birthday, why aren't they open? He says they closed early for staff training, and suggest another establishment nearby (a very Mexican restaurant) that sells waffles. If I had wanted just "waffles", I could have stayed in my hometown and had Waffle House. Disappointed, we start back to the car, and we pass the same gentleman coming out of the back door of Addie's. He's clearly alone. No staff training. He again tells me I should try the other place, and I again explain I'm not interested. I'm guessing it was a slow Thursday afternoon and he didn't want to wait around to see if there would be customers. Bad call, because he lost my party as customers and even as return customers. And who knows if anyone else showed up and was disappointed. The food may be great, but I'll never know. read more

I was in a hurry and ordered this lovely waffle to go. The two young men who helped me were very nice and polite and recommended this dish as a fast, vegetarian meal to go. The waffle is completely perfect in taste (not too sweet, nor too savory) and texture (spongy). The ingredients were fresh, flavorful, and harmonized well with the waffle.
