They hold monthly open leadline classes for children up to five years old…read more The leadline class is $5 per child and they take turns being led around the ring on the different horses and ponies. My daughter loved it the first time we went, and I was so happy to get the opportunity to expose her to a new experience and see the transformation from completely hysterical and freaked out to really enjoying herself. Of course for about a week afterwards, I had to endure questions like "Will we see Muffin, Rollo, and Peanut tomorrow?" and "Can you buy me Rollo for my backyard?" and "Why can't I have a horsey that is little just like me?" If you have a pre-schooler- this an hour a month of fun. I can't review the other aspects of the stable- since this is all I've done. PS: If you are going for the first time, you have to take a right at a big green sign into a long hidden driveway. You won't actually see 13431 on the side of the road.

I grew up riding at barns where the horses were already tacked up and you just hopped on for the lesson. I learned more about horsemanship at KVS in the year I've been riding here than 7 years of riding as a kid, not to mention how fast I improved my riding with Sara, the head trainer, in a year after a 10 year hiatus. KVS offers something for all ages, ability, and ambition. Cannot recommend this barn enough.

Diane is an accomplished equestrian herself and an excellent instructor. I have ridden at amateur barns throughout the country and really appreciate her skill. She has tips about technique that I have not seen before and really work for me. She is a good instructor for everything from pure pleasure riding to competing in rated shows. The focus is on eventing at this barn but there are opportunities for pure dressage to combined training to eventing at every level. Hunters and jumpers are also welcomed. As important as the instructor are the horses. The horses are happy here. There is plenty of space for them to graze and they are cared for by loving people. Finally, and most importantly, the social vibe is fun and supportive. There is a vibrant group of adult amateurs, and ages span from just under 16 to over 60. Even when competing, the focus is on fun rather than on ribbons. Cadence stables is an all-around-great place to ride. We considered more than 20 barns before landing here.

Diane is an accomplished rider and trainer and very collaborative. She not only helps me progress with my riding, but is also generous with her time providing knowledge and advice on horse care. I've become a more informed and educated rider and horse caretaker under her guidance. The people at this barn are dedicated and friendly, and ultimately the horses come first. There's an indoor, and outdoor, and ample outdoor space and grass to ride on. I also used to be intimidated by shows to the point where they weren't fun for me, and Diane and the community here have provided the encouragement I needed to make competing fun. Whether you're just starting out or taking your horse to the next level; looking to enjoy the outdoors or want to compete; want a lesson horse or are looking to board your own; Cadence is a wonderful place to ride.

Never thought I could find such a safe, beautiful, and comfortable setting so affordably. The farm and facilities are old but sound, safe, and tidy. It has a lighted indoor arena (my first time having one!) with good footing, three lighted outdoor riding arenas, and trails through acres of fields and woods. Farm owner/manager Anna is nearly always on the scene and is approachable and amenable. This is a real working farm. Anna's husband grows the hay the horses are fed and it is gorgeous. This is the first barn I've ever known to promise "24/7 free-choice hay" all winter and actually provide it. The farm crew delivers round bales on forklifts to every paddock and the horses bury their faces in it. My mare remained healthy, sound, and well fed. Speaking of paddocks, Anna's double-paddocks (one for winter, one for summer, both with run-in sheds) for each field-boarded herd of 3-4 are nearly the size of some other farms' entire pastures. I stall-boarded my mare briefly for convenience when she was for sale and appreciated the large, airy stalls and, again, the mountain of hay. Another nice aspect of Potomac Riverside Stables is the social part. All of the boarders that I met were responsible adults who were friendly to all even as they formed their own groups based on riding preferences, abilities, and schedules. I never felt judged. And no thieves: I've never had anything as much as a brush taken, even when I left something out for days. There is always someone to ride or chat with, always someone to ask for advice, and plenty of trainers who teach onsite. Potomac Riverside Stables was a good experience for me. If I get another horse I will board there again.

Repairs so far made significant improvement in its' facilities safety and appearance. More work is presently underway. The current crew are very knowledgeable and hard working. We feel that both our horses and ourselves are well cared for here. We originally boarded here for 3 1/2 years and enjoyed riding over its' ample trails and using the formal arenas. We have happily come back to ride here once again. This is a complete equestrian center no matter what type of riding you do.
