I've heard so many horror stories of people getting their cartilage pierced, so I was very particular in where I went. Safe to say, I am so so so glad I came to Stay True. When I come in, everyone is so welcoming. They were very kind and professional throughout the whole process. And there were so many piercing choices omg. I found one that perfectly fit my vision. My piercer was so incredibly knowledgeable of what he was doing that all of my anxiety went away. He also addressed my questions with a lot of care. I'm so incredibly happy my new piercings!! On April 10th, I spent $785.08 on three piercings: my second lobes and a conch. Before the appointment, I showed inspiration photos and explained my vision to the person at the front, including that my long-term goal was a double conch. However, there was clearly a breakdown in communication between the front desk and the piercer. It was not until after the conch had already been pierced that I was told double conches are normally planned and pierced together. Had that been explained beforehand, I would have made a different decision. I was also unhappy with the placement of my second lobe piercings. I was wearing larger diamond studs that day, so the spacing looked fine in the mirror. Once I got home and wore hoops, I realized the second holes were placed much farther away than I wanted. The photos also show an old, partially closed hole near that area, which makes me wonder whether the piercer may have thought I already had a second lobe and placed the new one more like a third. I cannot know that for certain, but because I explained everything and showed my photos to the front desk rather than directly to the piercer, it adds to my concern that the information was never properly communicated. For the amount I paid, I expected a much more thorough consultation, better communication, and more education about placement, jewelry, and aftercare. On June 8th, I returned because I had an MRI and needed my conch jewelry replaced with a retainer. I also told the front desk that I needed my lobe jewelry downsized. Once again, that information was not passed along. After the piercer finished changing the conch jewelry and began packing up, I had to remind him about the lobes. He sighed and said he had not been told. The appointment again felt rushed. I had to ask how the retainer worked, how to put my original jewelry back in, and whether it was threaded or threadless. I was not told what material the retainer was made from, how long it should stay in, whether it was appropriate to leave in a healing piercing, or what warning signs to watch for. Because no instructions were given, I assumed it was fine to leave it in. When I later went to clean the piercing, I realized the skin had grown over the O-ring and it had become embedded in the back of my ear. When I pushed the jewelry slightly, the area began bleeding heavily. My husband had to use a flashlight while I pushed the jewelry forward hard enough for the embedded O-ring to come back through the skin. We then removed the O-ring and took the retainer out completely. I have included photos showing the retainer immediately after it was placed, the skin covering the O-ring, the bleeding, the retainer after removal, and the condition of my ear after I had to force it out. I cannot say whether the retainer was meant to be left in long-term because that was never explained to me. That is exactly the problem. I should not have had to guess how to manage a healing cartilage piercing after paying a professional studio to change the jewelry. After spending nearly $900 between the original piercings, jewelry, downsizing, and the retainer, I expected professional guidance and confidence that my piercings were being handled correctly. Instead, the retainer became embedded, I had no choice but to remove the conch completely, and I now have to let the area heal before it can be repierced. I lost the piercing and the hundreds of dollars I spent on it. After everything that happened, I felt I had no choice but to write this review.

He just kept blaming me, saying I should have asked when I came in wearing butterflies and having no idea these others existed. The bottom line: They don't take an ounce of responsibility for anything and are incredibly rude to someone who spent hundreds of dollars on something she can't use. Telling me I am wrong about my disability and insisting I can pay them to teach me to do it was the icing on the cake. You don't tell a disabled person that their disability isn't real and they can do something they can't if they really wanted to. I would rather pierce my own ear with a rusty nail than set foot in this scam of a place again.

I can't compliment this store enough. I grew up on Main Street Manchester and have filtered in and out of Moonflower for years. In this time, I have never had so much as a slightly disappointing experience. Not once. The staff are all helpful and knowledgeable and always make you feel welcome without seeming too pushy. I have gotten every tattoo I have at this store (on my seventh at the time of this review) and "satisfied" isn't even the word for how much I love all of them, thanks to the talent and skill put forward by Sage, the Moonflower artist who did each one. Both of my piercings (one in each earlobe) were also done at Moonflower and both were done expertly and I was left without a hint of worry. You always feel like you're in good hands, because you are. They keep the store well-stocked and there is a variety to all the different types of items they sell. I feel absolutely no desire to visit similar shops, when I know that quality is a common theme in Moonflower. They are the people that I trust with my piercing, tattoo, jewelry etc. needs and I can't give them enough praise. The pricing has always been more than fair on everything and I consider myself lucky that I discovered this store as my go-to place for such things. Overall, I highly recommend this store and I can't imagine that anyone could walk away with anything but a positive experience. Keep it up!! read more

My friends and I stopped here about 20 minutes before they closed and got some piercings done. My friend had a nipple piercing redone, another friend got both nipples, and I got my septum pierced for the first time by Melissa. The shop has so much character, and they were extremely kind. Melissa talked me through the process, calmed my (very anxious!) nerves, and the piercing was over before I knew it. She was friendly, quick, calming, precise, and clean! She was very informative on the placement and accommodating to 5 excited 20-year-olds. She gave additional advice on each piercing as well. An absolutely amazing piercer who knows what she is talking about. Also, prices are EXTREMELY reasonable, and they only use surgical steel rings with no nickel. I am looking forward to my next piercing from her! The only downside is that they are a cash-only establishment, but they do have an ATM on site with a $2.50 fee per withdrawal. The Moon Flower is great! Only place I'll go for my piercings and tattoos! Melissa is by far the best piercer I've found in CT. Doug was great too, but he's no longer there. I'd have to disagree with Samara's review. I think the reason they don't charge ridiculous amounts for piercings is because they do so many. There's always a line of people waiting to get pierced whenever I go there. It's also great that they don't hit you up with an extra charge for the jewelry like some shops do. The price they tell you over the phone is the price you can expect to pay. Unlike other shops (black diamond I'm looking at you) where they tell you a price over the phone, and then when you get there they tell you the jewelry is extra. Went to this place spontaneously one night with a couple of my girlfriends when we decided we wanted a piercing. I have a few already so I thought what the hell, let's do it! I expected to get a nose piercing and maybe some rushed aftercare info, but what I got was an amazing piercing and a warm and professional experience! The girl that did my piercing, Melissa, was so nice. Even though I have a few others (a cartilage and my belly button) she still took the time to talk me through it. It was so fast! They even let you choose between a hoop and a gem stud! I got the stud and it is tiny and adorable :) Overall, best piercing that I have ever gotten. I absolutely love Moonflower! The first floor is a great gift shop with awesome jewelry and other gift-ables! Its bright and clean inside, not to mention the friendly, knowledge based customer service! Melissa and Sage are both prompt and willing to work with you, I have been tattooed and pierced here! They obviously enjoy working in this industry and with each other. I love the atmosphere and will absolutely only get work done here! I got three piercings done by Melissa and won't go anywhere else. She's very professional and knows her stuff. She also made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. I found the staff to be very friendly as well. The Moon Flower has always been a trusted place in Manchester to get a piercing. It's sad to read some of the negative reviews. I'm sure anyone who had a bad experience probably brought it on themselves. Don't blame the piercer, don't blame the price. I previously had my nosed pierced at another tattoo/piercing shop. It hurt horribly and I was in tremendous pain for days. My hole ended up closing up as I was told after a month I could take out the piercing. I was scared to get it done again but really wanted one. I went and saw Melissa. She was fantastic. Walked me through every step and told me that what happened in the past would not happen this time around. She was correct! Pinch when my nose was pierced but other than that no pain. This is an absolutely wonderful shop. They not only do great tattoo's but they also do a wide variety of piercings. The workers there are very cordial and nice. Due to surgery I needed my nipple ring removed. I walked in and Melissa removed it in a flash . She told me the cost will be 5 dollars payable AFTER I have it replaced . the only thing i would say is "BE OPEN ON SUNDAYS" i had a mishap and had to go to Visual expressions as a last resort because moon flower is closed on Sundays and i had the worst experience!! they even talked down moon flower in front of me!!! i wrote a hefty review on their page but will always stick to moon flower! I've had ornery tattoo artists in the past, but Matt is patient, a lot of fun, and also a real nice guy. The price was fantastic. I come from NYC where tattoos are $200 an hour, sometimes more. It was nearly half that here. One hell of bargain considering the quality of work, expertise, and relaxed environment. Also I was very happy to see a very clean and sanitary work space. Matt took great care and doing everything by the book. I highly recommend this place. Considering there's not a lot of tattoo shops in the vicinity of Storrs, it's great to know that the one that is, is really great.
