Our go to BBQ spot. We had to take our son here while he was home for Christmas. It's the best bbq around! My favorite is the brisket and all the sides. Today we got the brisket sandwich with baked beans and green beans we also got the jalapeño mac & cheese, coleslaw, and fried okra. Had the opportunity to stop by Moonie's Texas BBQ after attending the opening day of Falcons training camp. I'll let the photos speak for themselves--the barbecue is genuinely quite good. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, which she said was very moist and flavorful. She also ordered fries and coleslaw, and said the coleslaw was especially good. The fries, however, were not fresh at first, but the staff replaced them without hesitation with a hot, fresh batch straight from the fryer. I had the brisket sandwich, which was just okay on its own, but their sweet BBQ sauce elevated it to very good. I also had the baked beans, which were unique and included apples--a nice twist. But the real standout of the meal was the Brunswick stew--it was outstanding. The counter staff was very friendly and happy to suggest sides but did not inform me of the upcharges on the beans and stew. Prices were fair by 2025 standards. All in all, we had a good visit. Moonie's is the BEST place for BBQ in ATL in my honest opinion. My husband and I first discovered this place via a recommendation from the owner of our Wedding Venue back in 2023. It was so good that we decided to have Moonie's cater our entire wedding! Moonie's is located a few blocks away from downtown Flowery Branch. It's located just off of Atlanta Highway (GA State Route 13) and is always busy - which just goes to show how popular this place is. There is quite a bit of exterior parking that the does the location offers as well as indoor and outdoor seating. This establishments offers rewards via the Toast App. On this visit, both my husband and I ordered a combo plate which comes with two meats and two sides. First, let me say that their sides are so filling you could easily fill up on these alone. We had basically a whole combo plate worth to take home as leftovers. I ordered the sausage and pulled pork, while my husband ordered the sausage and brisket. All of their meats are perfection. The sides we collectively ordered are the Jalapeño Mac and Cheese, Baked Beans, Creamed Corn, and Fried Okra. My personal favorite is the Jalapeño Mac - and that's coming from someone that is lactose intolerant and probably shouldn't have a lot of cheese. The wings...spectacular but pricey! The service...hole in the wall dreary and empty. I stood at the counter to order and waited 5 minutes to acknowledge I was even there. The ambiance...hole in the wall order at counter. Looking for a birthday experience!?!...not here! Final take: Good food but pricey! We had takeout. BBQ is solid, the pork sandwich was alright, ribs were the highlight (some of the best around) and the brisket was great. Sides were a little bland and Jalapeño Mac and cheese was surprisingly bland. The beans and the creamed corn were okay. The cost was rather high for the portion sizes, which were smaller than expected, $50 (including tip). The sad part for us was that they forgot to pack our banana pudding, which was really disappointing considering the price point and that we live 25 minutes away. The BBQ was a good for trying to replicate Texas BBQ. As a live long resident of Texas I found that the pork was better than the brisket.

I am from The Hill Country of TX. Llano TX area home of Coopers BBQ. The County line is an hour from my home. So I know TX BBQ. Often will go to Lockhart for the Best around. Moonies is ok. Brisket fell apart had to use a fork with sauce to eat. The brisket should be springy and slight pressure applied to pull apart. This was fair to say the least. The potato salad had no flavor. Cole slaw unedible it tasted off. Toasted bread is for Italian food. BBQ requires white bread two slices minimum. I did not have pork as that is Eastern style not TX BBQ. I did have the sausage it was good. Would have liked it a bit spicier with jalapeño as an option. I believe for a Georgia pallet this place is fine. Its kind of like the Mexican bull Horns hanging at register. Its nice but its no TX Longhorn. read more

Have lived in Buford for several years now and one of the perks is being so close to Moonies which is where we get our sides when we grill and smoke homemade ribs. Their sides are delicious and are ready within a few minutes of a call in pick up order. We love the ribs and brisket here but we have been mostly smoking our own ribs lately so we have exclusively been getting our sides from Moonies for family meals. Prices are a little high but the quality more than makes up for it. Service and ambiance of the restaurant is great and always a pleasure to visit. 5 stars and two thumbs up! read more

We were in the surrounding area, found this place via Yelp and decided to try. The girl working at the register was very friendly. She recommended us to buy by the pounds and then order side dishes. She said we'd get more value for our money. We followed her recommendation and ordered the brisket, pulled pork, ribs and a few side dishes (French fries, green beans, special brisket chili, and banana pudding). My favorite is the pulled pork. Loved this place!! The meat was delicious. People were nice. Great feel to the place. Like an old bbq shack and it smells DELICIOUS the moment you open the door. Only giving it 4 stars because of the sides. I liked the jalapeño Mac (not too spicy for me, a spice wimp!) and the creamed corn was good just not great. I was used to the more crushed corn in creamed corn so that threw me off a little bit, and the Mac was good but I wished it was a little more creamy. Good bbq though (and sauce options)! Some of the best barbecue I have ever eaten and I'm picky with my barbecue. I'm usually disappointed when I eat barbecue because I like to make my own. The brisket and ribs were top notch. The beans were awesome too. The Texas toast was fine. I wasn't a fan of the Mac n cheese but others in my group liked it. The sweet sauce was very tasty as well. Went one day and had the 2 meat plate with brisket and pulled pork. Brisket was very close to what I normally get in Texas. Pulled pork was juicy. Loved all of the sauces to dip the meat in.
