Looks like new ownership/new management, and frankly all I've had under the old management was the milkshakes. But this new version is great. They make a really great burger! Everything tastes fresh from the toppings, the beef, amazing! What else can you say, it's just a really tasty burger. Nice folks, service was great. I have been coming here for at least 5 years when visiting this side of the lake. Especially during the pandemic because I try to patronize the small non-chain businesses. They aren't open Sundays, which is inconvenient but I guess its a little family business. Most of the time the food is pretty good but I have to admit I usually only get the SF4 (popcorn shrimp , drink, cole slaw, hush puppies). However lately the quality went down and the shrimp were always burned. I think because they don't listen well when you place your order or maybe there is a language barrier. There has been inconsistency in the cocktail sauce and recently they started packaging their own. Usually the little cups are only 1/2 full but they will sometimes provide an extra. Today I visited and found that they no longer have the cole slaw and hushpuppies included. Not only that but the price went up a lot. I think possibly $4.00. It was a significant jump! The cocktail sauce was 1/3 full and almost frozen. When I went back to get another one, she pointed to a tiny sign that said extras would now be 75 cents. (see photo). They gave me one and it was only 1/2 full. The one thing I can say was better was that they either didn't burn the shrimp or they switched vendors. They were very good and the breading was flaky and tasty, so there's that. Not sure I will return. For this price, its a better deal to eat at Coastal Breeze, which is a real restaurant with table service. I don't know I will return. read more

After sitting in the escape-from-Atlanta traffic through Gwinnett, I was struck by an overwhelming urge for a milkshake. Checked the GPS, saw a place with "Shake" in the name, and I was on my way... This place is odd. It's in a strip mall. They have an interestingly jury-rigged drive-through. I decided to try going inside, girding myself for the typically revolting grease pit smell... And was greeted by a *good* meat smell. I'm sure it's typical fed-lot, corn-fed beef, but it actually smelled good. They advertise using peanut oil, so I'd bet the burgers have that nice crust... If I weren't overheating and very unhungry, I would have swallowed my ethics and their meat. I could do without the religious items everywhere, but that's just my preference. And the milk shake? Shame on me - I should have read more reviews in depth but I was in a hurry. Upon entering there's a odd vibe as if it wants to be a Chinese fast food but somewhere it got changed to burgers and such. On to the food - it was only passable. Got a chicken sandwich and it was a processed meat patty deep fried. (If you really want chicken - Chick-fil-a is close and is a lot better. - in full disclosure I assume it is better since all Chick-fil-a are the same.) Again my sample size was small but I think it is safe to say that you have better options in the area. read more

You know what the thing is about this place? It makes no pretense about being anything other than what it is...a small neighborhood carry out / seat yourself / stryofoam plate kind of place, but the thing is, when you get your order, you can tell that it wasn't just thrown together with the same wreckless abandon you might find at a fast food place or somwhere that the proprietors don't give a crap. At Burger & Shake, they fix simple food WELL as opposed to trying to be overly fancy and delivering meek results. The place is very small, clean, and the service is pretty quick, but what really brings me back is the non-greasiness of their burgers, and the perfectly prepared crinkle cut fries. Thankfully they have another location in Cumming, which has also been very consistent with delivery simple food in a non-sloppy way. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that, as mentioned in one of the other reviews, if you are going to eat inside then you will be listening to some sort of christian/easy listening type music, which actually isn't offensive or anything, but it has kind of been a little annoying at times. Also mentioned in another review is that they have a drive through...they do not. The drive through speaker you see in front of the restaurant is actually from the coffee shop that used to be next door. Burger and Shake is the perfect utilitarian lunch stop, a step above fast food, but not trying to be more than it is. Maybe not worth going out of your way for, but if you are passing the exit 12 on 985, it is just a block away and worth checking out if you are hungry at the time. read more

First time here! My husband had been here a couple times during lunch break and he wanted me to try the wings. We were greeted with a smile and staff was friendly. The wings are crispy, seasoned well and juicy but not greasy! We had the lemon pepper. Hands down, the best wings I've had in awhile! I also tried the Philly and it, too, was done well. Food was good. All the food came out hot and fresh which is a must for me. I ordered the Gyro (Lamb) with 6 lemon pepper wings and upgraded the fries to onion rings. More food than I can eat but it gave me the chance to taste different items. The one complaint I have is the lack of friendliness. We said thank you and smiled a lot without any response or smile back. It wasn't until we were leaving that the lady smiled and said thank you. Love these burgers! We found Burger & Shake by accident a few years ago when exploring our new home town. They have burgers, hot dogs, shakes, fries, and a nice assortment of carbonated beverages. The food is cooked to order and always comes to you hot and with a smile. I have to agree with Jason R. that this place is just a tad odd, but you're there for the food, right? The religious items are all over the shop and if you listen closely, the music is all religious as well. I guess that's just how they roll. Ok with me since we are there to eat a good meal and enjoy each others' company. We are customers for life. read more

i wanted to like this place. tehy seemed to have all my favorites, a plain ole chili dog with onions, nothing fancy. a burger you didn't have to take out a loan to eat, were good eating one but might have two, and clean enough to not have to use a straw but knew that had straws judt in case. ther dries were not very good. the chili on the chili dog was made this year but orobable not this week, but the burger was solid, good flavor about 80 20. service was agreeable but suspect. i had the uneasy feeling like they has messed with the coke formula to save money and taken the zest off it. but i don't think they did that. i ordered, paid, ate and left. i didn't die. it was a good day. read more

Uncomfortable and unfriendly service. I've been coming here for a couple of years. I've brought several out of town guests to this place for dine in and take out. The food is okay. I count on it for a change in menu from the normal routine. Their Philly has a nice kick once in a while. But the guy who runs the place needs a long vacation. Very dry, won't hardly talk or make eye contact. Seems more than bothered every time I enter. Also, the place is very poorly ventilated. Inside, it is hot and balmy and the bathroom can be smelled from the front door. Not sure why, perhaps they have had a plumbing issue, but I can't deal with it anymore. I think the only channel they have is the terrorist channel because that's all that's ever on. News about terrorists and commercials about old people's problems like lubricated catheters. I don't want to eat and watch all that crud. Very distasteful and uber conservative. And lets not forget the Christian music they have piped over the loud speakers the entire time. Maybe this manager should have taken up employment in a church or somewhere he can feel more comfortable giving service. Because he seems a bit frightened and mad to be there if you ask me. Nobody likes being controlled this way when they come in for food at a public establishment. Too hard edged for me. I need a place I can relax and let my food digest in a comfortable atmosphere. Well we've been meaning to try this place, and it turned out to be the worst burger/sandwich shop I have ever experienced. First let's talk about their fries... obviously they must use one fryer for everything, and are not concerned with maintaining fresh/clean oil. The fries were heavy and greasy, with a muddled flavor of "dirty fry vat". Secondly their burger is a joke, paper thin meat pressed and seared as to not reveal the poor quality cheap beef that is used. The side trimmings are pretty basic, over ripened tomato, sloppy lettuce slice. Someone ordered the fish sandwich at almost $5 (just for the sandwich), and it arrived with a single piece of heavy/greasy fried fish, that barely even covered half of the sandwich! There was literally 60% of bread not touching fish, so you can imagine our shock. We were so appalled by this, and thought it had to be a mistake, surely there should have been a second piece of fish. But, no, the workers/owners took it upon themselves to argue with us that this is extremely normal for the sandwich portions. We let it go and the owner continued to argue about it from behind the counter. This is outrageous business practice, and this restaurant has no place among the good businesses of Flowery Branch. Seriously wish I had taken a picture, but we were so shocked by this surreal experience that we forgot. Never, ever will we eat this trash for food, or give this restaurant a cent of our support. Please, do the locals a favor and leave flowery branch, and give another business the opportunity to make something great of the space. read more
