    Pulled pork with peach slaw

Delicious BBQ, no need for sauce, the pulled pork is spot on, the sides were tasty and the banana pudding, yummy! Great atmosphere on the downtown square

Half rack of ribs and a side of fries.

Perhaps the best barbecue in Flowery Branch! I ordered the half rack of ribs with fries. The ribs smelled amazing on the drive back home and let me tell you they did not disappoint. The ribs were tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The fries were fresh, hot, crispy (from the beef tallow) and also perfectly seasoned. My daughter had the brisket sandwich and raved about how tender, juicy and delicious it was. I've been in talks of moving from the area but Whistle Q has me reconsidering that decision. This was hands down the best bbq I've had in years. We will definitely be a regular.

    Crispy "smoked" wings

Wings HIGHLY overcooked, crispy dry. For "smoked" wings they should have been moist and had a smoky flavor. And if you look closely you'll see feathers. Threw away $70 worth of food

The Caboose and jalapeño popper, fritters.

OMG. Craig you are a food God! How in the heck you get your spud to be as creamy and smooth as that...pure heaven in each bite! Whistle Q - Flowery Branch another meal that tops the chart! The caboose, pork rinds, jalapeño popper fritters, and of course the pickles and onions!!! All amazing! Do not go get the fritters unless you want a new addiction! Always a 10/10!!! Fast, friendly service what a great atmosphere!

Incredible BBQ, and amazing sides. Craig is a true BBQ talent! Beautiful restaurant on Main Street.

our order collards, pork, and brisket stuffed tater. Bowl in middle is sour cream and pickled jalapeños we asked to be on the side

This place is incredible. It's the best chopped pork I've ever eaten in my 54 years of eating bbq. Didn't even need sauce, even though they had tasty bbq sauces. My wife ordered the brisket stuffed potato which I sampled and it was epic too. As a 7th generation Texan I really appreciate Craig goes the extra mile to smoke the brisket with post oak. Post oak is what's used by folks like Aaron Franklin, Kent & Terry Black. Whistle Q's collard greens were very special too. The collards were a nice sized 6oz serving and very well seasoned. They had pepper sauce on the table but these collards were so great I didn't need that sauce either. They are also going the extra mile brewing Community Tea which was spot on. One tiny thing I want to point out is I really appreciate the butter they serve with the potato. That butter is really marvelous. It had been cut out of a large block into little blocks. That butter took the fluffy potato to never before experienced heights of deliciousness. The sour cream served with the potato was also remarkable. The potato was also served with excellent jalapeño slices and sour cream. The jalapeños are pickled and have a degree of crispness that is very appealing. I also appreciated the sliced pickle chips and pickled onions served on the side with my pork. We drove 20 minutes to get Whistle Q and the travel was worth the visit, I should also mention the ambience is very nice situated in a folksy part of downtown. Flowery Branch, adjacent to cute boutique shops. Keep up the great bbq! We will return!

    Brisket sandwich $19

Food was very good pork was super tender and brisket had a great smoky flavor. Was a little shocked the brisket sandwich was $19 and was pretty small for that price.

The Mac and cheese was also fantastic. It was rich and flavorful. Very special. My one surprise was the root beer. I tried that and it was really smooth and flavorful. Great taste. The dining area looked clean and well-kept, and the hostess/cashier was genuinely friendly--she took the time to walk us through the menu, drinks, sauces, and even the different pickles, which I appreciated. We ordered the brisket, ribs, mac & cheese, green beans, two sauces (both free), house and spicy pickles (also free), and a Banana Cream Soda. 2 Slices of Brisket - $9 (3.5/5): The brisket was solid overall--tender with a nice, juicy interior and a lightly smoky aroma that came through in each bite. It wasn't dry at all, which is always a win, though it could've had a bit more depth in flavor on its own. That said, it really came alive when paired with the spicy sauce, which added a bold, tangy kick that elevated the meat nicely. 2 Pork Spare Ribs - $7 (4/5): These were definitely a highlight. The ribs were beautifully seasoned with a savory, slightly sweet rub that formed a flavorful crust on the outside. The meat was incredibly tender--so much so that it fell clean off the bone with just a fork, no effort needed. Juicy, rich, and super satisfying, especially with the spicy sauce adding an extra layer of heat and tang. Mac & Cheese - $4.50 (4/5): Very impressive side. The spiral noodles were cooked perfectly--tender but still holding their shape, not mushy at all. What stood out most was the texture: there was a subtle crunch on top, possibly from a light breadcrumb or rice-based topping, which added a nice contrast. The cheese sauce was creamy, rich, and coated every curve of the spirals, so each bite had these little pockets of cheesy goodness that almost "popped" with flavor. The sprinkle of green onions on top added a fresh, slightly sharp brightness that cut through the richness and made the dish feel surprisingly refreshing. Green Beans - $4.50 (3.5/5): These had a great bite to them--crisp-tender with a fresh, vibrant texture. The seasoning was flavorful with a savory base, but what surprised me most was the subtle heat that built up as you ate more. It wasn't overpowering, just a nice, unexpected kick that made them more interesting than your typical side. House Pickles (free) - 2/5: These were very crunchy and had a sharp, vinegary tang that leaned heavily on the sour side. While they were fresh and crisp, the flavor felt a bit one-dimensional and overly acidic for my taste. Spicy Pickles (free) - 4/5: Much better balance here. Still nice and crunchy with that same sour backbone, but the added heat gave them a bold, zesty edge that made them way more enjoyable. The spice lingered just enough to keep you reaching for another. Banana Cream Soda - $2 (2.5/5): This was light, fizzy, and refreshing with a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel. The banana flavor was present but very subtle--more of a faint, artificial sweetness than a rich, ripe banana taste. It leaned more toward a mellow vanilla-cream soda vibe with just a hint of banana in the background. Not bad, just a bit underwhelming if you're expecting a bold, dessert-like banana flavor. Overall, a solid BBQ spot with friendly service and some standout items--especially the ribs and mac & cheese. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for a laid-back, no-frills lunch.

Let's start with the appetizers. The hush puppies are a must. They come with a hot honey glaze on top, and that combo is ridiculously good. Sweet, crispy, and just packed with flavor. The fried okra was something I've never had before. No breading--just split in half and fried as-is. Super unique and honestly really good. If you like okra, you've gotta try it this way. For sandwiches, my wife had the pig melt, which is their take on a pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast. The pork was tender, juicy, and stacked nicely, definitely a solid choice. I had the BBQuban, their BBQ twist on a Cuban sandwich, and it was excellent. Great flavor, well put together, and something a little different from the usual. The meats across the board were done right. The turkey was tender and served in big, thick slices. The brisket had a good bark and paired well with their BBQ sauce. Sides were all solid. The mac and cheese was creamy (I added a little salt and it was perfect for me), baked beans were flavorful, and the collard greens were on point. And the banana pudding... easily one of the best I've had in the North Georgia area. If you're going here, don't skip it. The space itself is fun with a bar area, and the service was great. Everyone was friendly, and the food came out fast. Parking is available right out front, but just make sure you scan the code and register your tag so you don't get ticketed. You can also park in nearby decks if you prefer. Overall, this is a strong BBQ spot in Gainesville. Great variety, solid execution, and definitely worth checking out.

Small bar with a few TVs. Clean but almost too clean for a BBQ place. You'll know when you walk in. Ordered the oysters and BBQuban. Wife orders the oysters and said they were good, expensive but good. They do have a $2 oyster special one night during the week(don't remember the day). Also had the fried okra. If you like okra, you'll really like it. If you prefer the breading, which these have none, you might like it a little less. The sandwich was great. Toasted bread awesome. A little skimpy on the fries. Their mustard based sauce is good. The hot sauce is really good. The others are just ok. The waitress gave us the heads up on the kitchen closing if we wanted desert. Got the apple fried pie and banana pudding. Banana pudding was really good. Plenty of Nilla wafers. Fried pie was just ok. Would compare it to McDonald's. Parking used to be easy, but the bank across the street is now charging to park and it's expensive.
