Located in downtown Flowery Branch you'll find some of the BEST barbecue and side items plus a very friendly helpful staff pretty much guaranteeing you'll return! I live pretty far away so when I'm in Buford, I like to take a trip up to Flowery Branch to hit one of the of the cute little restaurants in the area and this week I tried Whistle Q for the first time. I am sure they are a direct competitor of Moonies which is also good, however, completely different vibes and dining rooms. Whistle Q is a great date or friends & family place. They offer patio or inside dining. Very casual yet very nice. Moonies is more of a carry out type spot or maybe work buddies joint. Extra casual - rustic but I love their BBQ sauce station at Moonies. The attached photos are an afterthought and a day later - refrigerated. I am so sorry - I didn't take photos when I arrived home to see the beautiful array of food from Whistle Q. While I initially thought it was kind of expensive, when unboxing everything and seeing how far it all goes...it's not expensive for the quality or quantity. The sides are 8 oz cups fully packed - shareable when you have a variety. We bought ... - 3/4 lb beef brisket (beautiful bark - excellent flavor - perfect texture) - BBQ Pork sandwich which I thought was pricy for $17. It has so much meat it literally makes three bbq sandwiches - so that is a great deal! The photo shown had a full portion of pork removed for another sandwich (buy a pack of buns from Publix!) - Coleslaw (mayo base) - Collard Greens (the most perfect seasoning I didn't even bother adding my hot pepper vinegar) - Mac & Cheese - Beef Tallow Fries - (delicious! oh my I'm glad I tried them when fresh and crispy - they don't travel well and arrive home soggy) What did we love? EVERYTHING! We are very impressed with the beef brisket and pulled pork and I love all the sides. I am dying to try their chili cheese fries when I can stay and dine in. The ONLY tip / suggestion I have is to get better to go bags - they use plastic bags that don't hold form and they leak - I recommend for ToGo you carry a grocery bag or something with a flat surface to keep the juices from leaking out. One other thing - if someone does not care for pickled onions or pickles - request to pack them separately as the liquid does bleed into your brisket and sandwich. read more

The sliced brisket is absolutely off the charts! I would put it up against any other brisket in Atlanta. I've hit all the holes in the wall and the big names alike. Extremely tender and juicy. Perhaps the best barbecue in Flowery Branch! I ordered the half rack of ribs with fries. The ribs smelled amazing on the drive back home and let me tell you they did not disappoint. The ribs were tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The fries were fresh, hot, crispy (from the beef tallow) and also perfectly seasoned. My daughter had the brisket sandwich and raved about how tender, juicy and delicious it was. I've been in talks of moving from the area but Whistle Q has me reconsidering that decision. This was hands down the best bbq I've had in years. We will definitely be a regular. read more

Been here 2x. First time we ate in, we were the only ones in and clearly the manager/and or owner was at a table nearby, never greeted, spoke or said thanks come again. We tried again to just take a carry out of meat/beans. Don't get me wrong, the food is good. However we paid $19 for a pound of dried out smoked turkey, where the majority of cuts were clearly the ends of the roast... pretty disappointing because those pieces were even more leathery. This place is incredible. It's the best chopped pork I've ever eaten in my 54 years of eating bbq. Didn't even need sauce, even though they had tasty bbq sauces. My wife ordered the brisket stuffed potato which I sampled and it was epic too. As a 7th generation Texan I really appreciate Craig goes the extra mile to smoke the brisket with post oak. Post oak is what's used by folks like Aaron Franklin, Kent & Terry Black. Whistle Q's collard greens were very special too. The collards were a nice sized 6oz serving and very well seasoned. They had pepper sauce on the table but these collards were so great I didn't need that sauce either. They are also going the extra mile brewing Community Tea which was spot on. One tiny thing I want to point out is I really appreciate the butter they serve with the potato. That butter is really marvelous. It had been cut out of a large block into little blocks. That butter took the fluffy potato to never before experienced heights of deliciousness. The sour cream served with the potato was also remarkable. The potato was also served with excellent jalapeño slices and sour cream. The jalapeños are pickled and have a degree of crispness that is very appealing. I also appreciated the sliced pickle chips and pickled onions served on the side with my pork. We drove 20 minutes to get Whistle Q and the travel was worth the visit, I should also mention the ambience is very nice situated in a folksy part of downtown. This is the second time I have been here. The first time was when they opened and I had the wings which were good but not great. This time around I had the ribs and they were some of the best I have had. They were tinder but not fall of the bone which to me is how they should be cooked so that is not a negative. Really pumped up to try this place, website makes food look wonderful. You buy meat by the pound or get sammiches. Ordered Brisket, Turkey and half pound of ribs w/'mac n cheese and French Fries. Girl at register didn't ask what kind of cut we wanted on brisket and ours was really fatty. However, owner checked on us before leaving and apologized, gave us some lean cuts and a good portion at no charge. Said when we come back to just ask, meat will be cut to our liking. Bonus points there big time! Thanks a lot. Fries were nothing special even though a healthy portion. Mac N Cheese was good. Overall, flavor on the meats were ok, nothing to really make me want to return. Another BBQ very close that has been our go-to for years. Wouldn't say it's a bad place but just not our cup of tea. The location is great, outdoor dining and we brought dog. $$$$$. Well, that's normal these days for BBQ so it wasn't a big deal. Don't mind paying for quality. Cute little barbecue place. Brand new to Flowery Branch. Had a pulled pork barbecue sandwich, which was delicious and flavorful. I opted for the spicy barbecue sauce. The sauce could have been spicier, but it was still delicious. They have other options if you don't like spicy. I also had the fried okra and baked beans as sides. The fried okra was some of the best I've ever had. The baked beans were spicier than I expected with lots of pepper flavoring, but they were delicious as well. For dessert, I opted for banana pudding. Although this is not your homemade Nilla brand wafer recipe, it was ultra creamy and served with two Lorna Doone cookies instead of wafers. Yum! Loved it all. He admitted the food was not up to their standards but has now told me I am not welcome at any of his restaurants. Never got a response like this from any of my reviews.
