I suggested a sign since that's what most professional and safe restaurants are doing. The donuts are decent but nothing special. I paid for mine, then returned them because of safety concerns. I have been to a few donut places and there are something that I have had other places that have been better, however we are talking bout Moonlight Donuts. My favorite is their apple fritter. It is a massive mound of dark batter filled with apples and cinnamon. Theirs are coated in a glaze on the outside. When you bite in you don't get a mouth full of oil but bits of apple, cinnamon and dough. I haven't had a bad fritter from here yet. I haven't had too much else from there but the service is alway nice, even at night. I always stop here when I am in the area. I give this place 5 stars because I am a French Cruller fan and these are the best I have had. All the other donuts are very good and solid but the Cruller is off the charts. Perfect texture. The owner here says he had very similar donuts while living in China, he called it the Chinese donut. If you look them up, they are long not round. We have been visiting this place for years, it is located in Fillmore, CA, where my mother lives. We hit it at least once a visit. It's in the shopping center next to Starbucks and Vons. read more

My wife had stopped by Moonlight Donuts a few months ago while traveling from Santa Maria to Victorville and raved about the donuts from this place. Last week we were traveling together through Fillmore and she suggested I try one. We entered the place and the owner was friendly and engaging. I selected the Apple Fritter and the Blueberry cake donuts. Both were insanely tasty. My eyes rolled into the back of my head when I tried the Blueberry cake donut right there in the store. The combination of crispy and sweet was totally amazing. The owner has a fascinating and inspiring story about his arrival in the US 30 years ago and is a true example of immigrant success. read more

I've been here a handful of times in the previous years. I think they have different owners. This experience was not nearly as good as the last. It kind of started before we even walked inside. It smelt like sewage outside, the dining tables on the exterior of the building were filthy, walked in at around 7:45-8am on a Saturday & the selection was very very limited (they had zero glazed donuts and 1 chocolate bar). I live in Ventura and paid $.55 more for a dozen here than at home. I should not have even taken a bite. When I opened the box I could smell the oils they use. Not sure what they are doing differently than before but the donuts are way sweeter and I guess the only way I can describe is more fake tasting. I took 3 bites of 3 different donuts and all the same. Still have that weird taste/film in my mouth. So sad, a good donut shouldn't be that difficult to come by. read more
