In love with anything in this unclassified store. I discovered it today and thought was new and just reading it has 10 years of life. I thought it was a motorcycle gear store and then stepping into was able to admire the painted surf boards, female and male apparel, second hand clothing, cool laid-back art...and the super surprise of a bondai shop or garden in the backyard. Seaweed & Gravel just might be the coolest store in the whole wide world. It is so neat without preening or coming off at all hipster; so well curated with a variety of goods without ever seeming hodge podge; Ari is knowledgeable, personal and and terrific, and they have BANZAI trees. What?!? Sauntered on while on a surf trip from Long Island, stayed for an hour and left with all kinds of goodies. Alas, that Sunset board wasn't going to fit in the carry on. Love this shop!! David was so nice in store with my purchase and equally as nice when I emailed him about making an exchange! I live about 45 mins from the shop and realized (the day after I was there) I had purchased size medium in a "seaweed and gravel" shirt and hoodie and needed larges. They were closed on Monday so I couldn't drive back out so I submitted a contact request on their website and Dave got back to me so quick and was so understanding about it, no million questions asked! My husband and I have been going to and supporting this small business for many years now and will definitely continue to do so! read more

Great one of a kind store, laid back atmosphere and friendly service. Love everything about seaweed and gravel. This is my go to shop for every occasion when my wife needs a gift. Great selection of unique jewelry, home decor, art and other one of a kind finds that always impress my old lady and scores me some points. Also my go to shop when I need to get myself a little something as well. T-shirts, jeans, boots and moto gear. Very accommodating and helpful staff. They ordered me a helmet when my oversized melon didn't fit any in stock and I had it within days. Incredible bike builders, always a cool selection of boards on hand, art shows, bonsai tree classes, bbq's and moto rides are happening every month and there is always a welcoming vibe. I've wanted to go to this shop for a while and finally broke down and went in last month for my boyfriends birthday. I just wanted some cool t shirts that I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else which is totally what I found. Even though the guy was 25 minutes late to open up shop, I had a good experience. I also bought a jacket that I thought might be iffy and I might need to return it. So, I asked if I could return items if they didn't work out, to which the worker replied "YES, bring it back." So, knowing that I bought a few shirts and the jacket. Fast forward a couple weeks, I finally have time to return the jacket I purchased and had a few spare minutes in between school and work. I was told then (by the same guy that helped me the first time) that they actually only exchange things and he pointed to a teeny tiny sign next to where he rang me up. What the heck man? I specifically asked if I could return items and he totally lied to my face. Now I'm stuck with a $50 gift card to the place when all I want is my money back. I was so stoked on this place and now I never want to go in there again. read more

This store is new to Encinitas, and run by a fan of vintage motorcycles and the beach. The vibe is beachy and almost 70s. I walked in here while I was waiting for my lunch from Haggo's. I noticed the extreme smell of gasoline permeating throughout the store, given that there are a few old motorcycles perched randomly in the store. They are for sale. The store carries used clothing (but some are upcycled to include the store's logo and name), new clothing (mens & womens), stationary, dream catchers, vinyl records, vintage furniture, and more. Rad little store in charming Leucadia. You can't miss it while driving by- its the store front with the huge Indian mural on the side of the building. (Photo op!!) This place is great. I was surprised to find them selling Biltwell helmets at cost. Lots of vintage clothing, and classic motorcycle gear. This place fits in very well with the Leucadia vibe. The employees may seem uninterested at first, but if you are interested in classic bikes, surfing, etc. they are very helpful. It might not seem cool to people, when employees are not forced to plaster a fake smile on their face and kiss a$$ all day, but I think these guys are so much easier to deal with. They are totally reasonable when you want to make a purchase, they happily special ordered some gear for me, and they leave you alone when you are just browsing. Prices are fair-trade on the gear and the bikes. Clothing is much more expensive than the thrift shop, but they have already pulled the cool stuff for you. Check out the bonsai classes out back! Buy yourself a classic motorcycle! Rad place for some old school cool! read more

Being originally from Encinitas I was pretty stoked to find these guys while being stationed in South Carolina. I was in the market for my first bike and really wanted something I could fall in love with and not just a bike. Noticing they had one of Jarred's bikes for sale that I honestly still think is the raddest looking bike I've seen. Immediately, I digging it. I still waited a while and looked around. After a couple weeks I contacted jarred about the bike. I stated how I was looking for a first bike and I was interested in his. I was very clear on how I needed something reliable, that wouldn't have any issues. Due to being in the military my free time isn't something I have abundance of. Also my mechanical knowledge of bikes has yet to begin to grow. I was extremely clear on this and jarred and David assured me I would zero issues and the bike was in perfect condition. (I did receive a disclaimer saying I was buy a vintage bike and they are old, etc.) but still was assured the bike was in perfect running condition. I honestly don't know why I felt I could trust these guys so much but I did. I took them as pillars in an awesome community back home and that became one of my most foolish decisions. Right away receiving the bike, the speedometer didn't work, the brakes were sticking, and one of the handle bars had plastic deformation in it. The handle bar ended up fracturing completely due to drilling in to put in blinker controls. Luckily I was just starting up the bike and not riding, could of died. I didn't realize the bike slowed so fast after I let off the gas due to the front brakes sticking. If the would have completely stuck after applying the brakes I could have flew into an intersection and died. Upon later taking apart the brakes they were COMPLETELY corroded and had to be replaced. Battery is on the edge of life. And now the bike won't even run. I tried contacting them about how they sold me a bike that was no where near the condition they said it was in and if we could work something out. I was ignored for some time and then got a message on how the bike they shipped was "perfect" and there's nothing to work out. Not to mention the bike hadn't been registered in over 2 years! Jarred and David will say anything to make a profit even if it means putting your life on the line and screwing over military. Don't support a company with zero values and honesty. Basically, these guys lied about a bike they were selling. Took advantage of the situation and scammed me. In doing so, my life could of ended due to the condition of the bike. Do not trust or support a business that puts profits in front of values and honesty. read more

Been to the store 3 times. 1st time someone actually talked to me for a couple of minutes, very short almost like I was bothering them. The 2nd time had a few people around a large table with laptops (kinda like a internet cafe) and a couple of what I thought were employees, not a word, no hello or can I help you or anything that would acknowledge that a paying customer was actually in the building. 3rd time exactly the same thing, no hello or anything. I walked around for 5 minutes or so and still nothing. I just can't figure this place out, what are they? motorcycle shop? surf shop? Internet cafe? hangout? do they sell vintage, custom label or new clothes?do they like customers? do they like people? In all honestly, the store has a cool vib and could be successful but the owners/employees need to decide if they want to embrace the customers or push them away. In my case they pushed me away. Good luck to them, I might give them another try one day but not anytime soon. read more

I so want to like this place. It's in my neighborhood since relocating from Los Angeles and the style of all they sell is totally me. BUT each time I have been there, the customer service disappoints!!! Last weekend I dropped in. I've been looking for a pair of women's loose fitting jeans. I'm tired of the skinny, tight fitting jeans and that style to me is "yesterday's news." I'm told all they sell is the skinny tight fitting because that is the style. And I'm told this several times. I finally told him, "That's the style of those jeans but not necessarily the sole style of jeans everywhere. (Especially not in Los Angeles.) Then I'm told that they DO have a looser fitting jean but it is VERY expensive. He repeats it for me several times in case I didn't hear him or understand him. The loose fitting jeans are VERY expensive. (Why is he telling me, "it's very expensive?" Does he think I can't afford the jeans? Is this guy stereotyping me. Don't stereotype me dude. I'm willing to pay for quality.) The very expensive jeans I'm shown are ugly, ugly and they cost $200.00. I want to laugh. The only part that looks loose are the boot cut at the bottom of the jean. I decided to check the men's jeans...maybe I can just buy a pair of the men's. I'm told the men's jeans don't run in small sizes and they will be too big for me and they will be too long. Nothing else to see here. I'll pick up some jeans in Los Angeles next week. read more
