Nice drive-in close to Houston. The first two rows give you a good view. We did experience lots of insects and had to move inside the car. After sunset there were less and by the next showing we were watching from outside. A mosquito net would be nice to bring. The screen isn't as big and clear as the Showboat and there's way less food options but the location is closer to central Houston. read more

We came for the nostalgia. We laughed out loud when we pulled in. What a joke! I grew up with drive-ins. Gravel lots with a grassy area in front directly under the screen that usually had a swing set for kids. Well marked parking spaces. This was more like someone putting on a show in an abandoned vacant lot. I'm giving a couple stars because Devil Wears Prada 2 is a new release and was good and was visible. The screen was large, and was not overshadowed by ambient light. BUT SERIOUSLY, a potholed, unpaved and unlined lot with a food truck and 2 porta-potties has no business charging $27!! We pulled in more than half an hour before and parked. Just before the movie was set to start, someone came up and said that we and the car next to us should move because we were parked in the emergency exit lane. There WERE NO LANES. There were no marked spaces at all. As we were trying to figure out where we could even go at that point (now that the small lot was full) she changed her mind and said we could stay. The radio station worked well to be able to hear the movie and set our own volume. But for less money, we can go to a theater with surround sound, concessions, bathrooms, and recliner seats. Best part of the evening was Ninfa's around the corner. How are they allowed to stay in business with two porta potties and no clear exit? read more

Such a fun date-night spot! I went with my boyfriend to surprise him for his birthday and we had the best time. The screen itself is huge and the audio works by hooking up to a radio station in your car. We showed up about 10 minutes before the movie and I do wish we had gotten there sooner to get a better spot, but we still were able to see the screen clearly from the back. The space itself is quite small and the lot isn't paved so you are driving through some bumps and grass to park. They have several people standing in the lot to guide you in the dark and let you know where you can or cannot park. I didn't check out the concessions just because it seemed pricey (just like every movie concessions) but it seemed like they had a small variety of things for you to grab. The location itself is in east downtown so you could grab dinner and head over quite quickly! On Saturdays, they have a double feature so they show two films back to back for the price of one which is exciting. read more

Such a fun date night spot! Grab some food, pillows and blankets and you'll have a blast. Make sure to get there early. We got there 20 minutes till showtime, and it was full and unfortunately had to park in the front row. We were sitting in the trunk and unfortunately a little bit of the screen was covered if we were laying down. They do have concession stands if you want to buy food there and porta potties available. If your car battery dies, they are able to jump start it which is super convenient. Be careful with your tires as you'll be driving through some gravel. It is in a bit of a sketchy part of town and the roads leading up to it aren't fully developed. Beware of lots of potholes! Ticket prices are $35 per car. Definitely not worth the money. There wasn't really anyone there when we went to go watch our movie. I think it was like 8pm on a Sunday? The concession booth has like 4 types of candy, and it's one person sitting at what seems to be the front door of a building. The movie projection wasn't great quality. Picture it it's a cold windy night in Houston and you're ready to snuggle up and watch a movie only to arrive, but you're at the wrong gate so they direct you to the other gate so basically there's no signs telling you which gate you're supposed to go into. Then when they're supposed to take your ticket they only ask you "what movie you're here to see" because they don't even know which screen they're going to show it on, once you're allowed in.....there are no painted lines in the parking lot so fend for yourself. There's a huge dirt mound blocking the beautiful city view and skyline at the moment. So don't expect the pretty view just yet. Concessions aren't open right away and well the list could go on. I think there's definitely room for improvement but for now we sit at three stars. read more

I am extremely disappointed. MoonStruck charges a lot for tickets, and I can assure you the price is not worth it. My movie screen was in the back, tiny, and next to a golf driving range--which was separated by a large fence. This meant there was a significant glare on the small screen due to the presence of a large spotlight coming directly from the driving range. I was only able to see the movie half the time, and that depended on whether it was a scene that had background lighting. A driving range security guard would occasionally whizz on by on his cart from the other side of the fence, which was noisy. I could sometimes hear loud music coming from the range. Don't even think about going to the bathroom. The restroom trailers were LOCKED and the porta potty was disgusting. If you don't have a strong stomach, I recommend you not look at the photo I attached. The decorations and sunset were nice. I appreciated the presence of a food truck since the concession stand was extremely limited. I will not be returning. Watching a movie at MoonStruck was not enjoyable; quite the contrary, it was a waste of my time. read more

The issue that arose was the movie was scheduled to start at 7pm. Unfortunately, the movie did not start until roughly 45mins later! This was a week night and people typically have to go to work and school the following day. It was extremely disappointing that I was sitting in the car for a while until the movie started. The movie cut out mid scene and we sat in the car waiting over 15mins for the screen to come back on. (This happened another time I attended this theatre) I feel like it has been a waste of my time and night when we were not anticipating being out that late. MoonStruck Drive-In is such a great addition to the Houston area of places to visit! Back in the day, my friends and I used to go to the Showboat in Hockley. We'd watch double features on the weekends, bring snacks, sit on the bed of our trucks, and hangout. Now that I've moved closer to the city, we just kind of got lazy to drive out that far. BUT...MoonStruck Drive-In made it's way to the East Downtown. It's definitely fairly new, but a great addition. My first experience was the yelp elite event showing CoCo. Thanks yelp elite squad for showing us new places to experience. From that first experience, I knew this would be the place to tell friends about. At the time, there was only one big screen. I decided to come back and support this small business and watch Halloween Kills. The staff are all so friendly!! As of Sunday Oct 24, they added 2 additional big screens for more movies to be watched! So cool to see that they are expanding their variety of showings. They have a rotation of food trucks that are available for you to purchase food during your movie. Nice to know that they collaborate with local food trucks to add to the experience. There's also concessions for you to purchase snacks and popcorn. Clean bathrooms even though it's porta-potties. This place is dog friendly! As far as parking goes, you can back in, open the hatch of your car (if you have one), or park forward and watch through your windshield. It doesn't really matter where you park because the screen is so huge that you still get a great view of the movie. Make sure to bring a radio to play the movie, or you can use the radio in your car! Tune into the station that will be playing on the screen. MoonStruck Drive-In is such an awesome addition to the East Downtown area of Houston. Great night with friends, or even a date night. We watch the mission impossible the other weekend and the screen 2 is super small. there is a karaoke bar next to the theater and u can hear the people singing while your trying to enjoy the movie. Across the street there is a cute little pub, so you could go early, park, grab a drink and walk back over. The sound came through the radio, and we didn't have any problems. If I could go lower than one star, I would. My boyfriend and I went on November 3 to watch a movie, but they never told us about having to turn off all the car lights completely. My boyfriend's car is new so we were trying to get information as to how to do that and even reached out to the staff, which were very rude and did not want to help out. We asked for a refund because of the awful experience and no help whatsoever and the staff just brushed us off and said try social media. We then tried to contact Moonstruck via Instagram and Facebook twice and we have yet to see a response from them. Interesting setup in an even more interesting area, but it seems to work. I mean, it's essentially the parking lot of what looks like a hospital, next to a huge field, next to an industrial park, with a cool far off view of Minute Maid Park. I like that you don't have to turn your car off, so you can sit in the cool or warmth of your vehicle without fear of your engine disturbing other guests. I mean, you use your radio to hear the sound anyway. The screen is attached to stacked shipping containers, the projection booth is a wooden hut, and the concession stand is an area setup for food trucks. A plus is that they have nice restrooms that look like a hardcore camper. I got free tickets to screen a couple of movies, but halfway through the first movie the projector gave out. It isn't bad. We'll have to decide if we want to try it, again. read more

Fun place for a different activity with friends or for date night. We visited a couple months ago when they were playing Jurassic Park. They have three different screens, the main one is the largest and plays the newest film. Our show was playing from a smaller screen and while we enjoyed it, it wasn't the clearest. There were also a few times where the sound cut out. You have to tune into a radio station to get the sound streamed to your car. The movies start playing once the sun sets, so the times change throughout the year. read more

Enjoy the movie but just pray you don't have to use the bathroom. They have two disgusting portable toilets that they don't even bother to empty often. There is no attempt whatsoever to make them nicer. Some kind of light source like string lights or even one from outside would be nice. Keep the emptied and clean and have toilet paper would also be nice. And now for some reason, they've now placed them in the high grass. Why?? They were bad enough as it is. Now, you might have to encounter whatever is hiding in the grass on the way to a dark, unsanitary restroom. It's sooo easy to do better. DO BETTER! It's unacceptable, especially for women. read more

Came to see Lost City. The movie it self was alittle hard to see on the screen, especially during the darker screens, but I think this is normal when going to any drive in. My family went to go see Candyman on Friday night and we absolutely loved the experience. The staff was very friendly, and everything was very organized. The website indicated no food was allowed but their would be food trucks. There was only one food truck, but they had a good selection and were also very organized. We were able to get our order out to us in about 10 minutes and they also gave out pagers so you would know when your food was ready. The movie and food experience was great! A 5 five star experience. We had such a great time, that we decided to come back the next night and watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We were expecting the same great experience as the night before - WE WERE WRONG. Instead of a food truck, there was a crew cooking on small propane grill(Fork and Skewers). The whole operation was extremely chaotic: they ran out of most food items, had no way to notify people when or if your food would be ready, cooked food at night without proper lighting, and they ran out of propane while preparing food. I managed to order some chicken skewers and some egg rolls , right before they turned away about 3 dozen people because they had run out of food. The quality of the food was also extremely poor, with the chicken kabobs being undercooked and the egg rolls tasting like fried newspaper. The order was not prepared until about 1 hour into the movie and was also extremely pricey( 8 small chicken skewers and 10 mini egg rolls = $50). The website states the theater makes its money on concessions, and I want to support that but if I feel like everyone who brought their own food in had a much better night. The movie was good but there was a projector mishap about 20 minutes into the movie. The screen went dark for 5 minutes and the staff did inform anyone of what was going on. The movie individually was restarted but was about 5 minutes short of the part it stopped at. I understand these things can happen, but it definitely takes away from the movie experience. The night was a 1 star experience at best. Overall Rating over two days: 3 stars I would recommend checking out the theater, but I would definitely call ahead to inquire what food truck would be available for the night. read more

We went a couple of weeks ago to see Ant-Man, the idea of the drive in is good, you only pay for the vehicle, not individual people. The issues I have are the screen, as others have mentioned, was not clear, some of the dark scene were way too dark. On their site, it said they have air conditioned restrooms, which to me means, they are inside a building, which there is a building in the parking lot; but, no, it was a portable, outside, in the dark. The good thing, I went before the movie started and it was still pretty clean, but again, not what was stated online. It's a good idea, I remember these from when I was younger. read more

Horrible. Terrible. Disappointing. First of all, no one was at the gate or going around checking tickets so feel free not to pay the $33 that we did. The concession stand had a machine pumping out bug spray that STANK. The location is right next to a baseball field with stadium lights. We went on a Sunday night while there was a game or practice going on and the stadium lights overpowered the projector and you could barely see the screen. The website says if you have your headlights on then the workers will ask you to leave but this was not enforced. No one closed the gate or monitored people entering after the movie starts so there was someone driving around in circles looking for a place to park 20 minutes after the movie started with their headlights on full force. We gave up on the movie about 40 minutes in because we couldn't see it anyway. Booooo, hissssss. Don't recommend. Just drive to Showboat in Hockley, you'll at least be able to see the movie you paid to. read more

Overall Moonstruck Drive-In was a great experience! We went on a Monday evening so a good amount of other vehicles were there but not overcrowded. We were in the front row so can't say if other vehicles will be obstructing the view due to being a flat lot, but the screen seems to be high enough to not be a problem. Our movie was on the bigger screen, but the smaller screen in the lot next to us was a good size as well. Sound quality through the radio was great. We had no issue with the screen, and didn't think the screen being taller than the shipping containers caused any visibility issues. Had a cool view of Minute Maid and Houston. They also did trivia on the screen that you could answer on your phone to pass the time before the previews started that was cool. Our previews started a few minutes before the 9pm start time, which was nice because that meant the movie would begin sooner with it being a Monday/work night. They did have a snack table set up, but we did not try that out or use the bathrooms (in a trailer) to be able to comment on those. The only complaint would be that the website advertised a food truck option but we were told once there that there would not be one on a Monday, it is only on busier days like Thursday through the weekend. But there was a cute bar right across the street in walking distance that had food advertised on their website and there were picnic tables set up at the drive in if you brought your own food and did not want to eat in your car. We will definitely be back again! It was a nice date night spot for sure. Next time we will probably try to go early to try out the bar across the way in advance. I think the concept for Moonstruck is great. The execution of the idea is, well...lacking. I think the owners wanted to capitalize on a drive in idea during Covid and rushed the concept. I get that, but they've just left so much to be disappointed in. At this point, it's been seven months since they opened up. There should have been improvement by now, but I experienced some of the same issues that reviews from months ago mention. Upon entering, we were told that we could park "wherever". We were one of the first ten cars in line, so this left a lot of the lot to choose from. The first row was completely empty, so we were very excited to position ourselves mid-screen first row. One minute later, a man approached and told us that the first row was for compact cars only. We were in a Subaru, so I'm not sure how much more compact we could be. Nevertheless, we moved to the next row back. The funny thing was, once the movie started, there was nobody (seriously) parked in the front row. I guess everyone came in, saw the cars parked in our row and assumed that was the first available row. Some signage would be super helpful. I get that you are in your first year of being open, but a sign shouldn't break the bank. On a side note, the movie started about half an hour late (that's counting from previews). As for food trucks at the venue, there was one. The food was fine, but I guess I was expecting some variety. The website made it sound like there would be multiple options. The concession stand was a folding table with a popcorn machine and some boxes of candy. The candy options consisted of the same exact boxes you can purchase from Walmart for $0.98. I know this because I bought the exact same candy earlier that day from Walmart. The concession stand was charging $5 per box...same for the mini chip bags you get in a sandwich lunch kit. The boxes of popcorn were $8.66. Ridiculous. I understand that movies make a huge portion of profit from food, but even an AMC charges less-and offers the option to douse my popcorn with awesome popcorn butter. The screen was somewhat small and was stacked against shipping containers, but the top of the screen was too tall for the shipping container stack. This meant it was backdropped to the sky and was more difficult to see. There were three trailer bathrooms available for use. One was clogged, one was filthy and one was decent. I love the idea of a drive-in movie, but I'm not sure I'd go back unless the owners improve on the concept. I was really excited for this place, and tried it on Feb.25th to see Ant Man. It was very disappointing. The screen was dark and it was hard to discern faces of many of the characters. But the worst was the concessions and the food truck. The concession stand didn't have any attendant to sell food until about 20 minutes AFTER the movie started, and the credit card machine was broken. So cash only. The food truck was severely understaffed and had forgotten a lot of ingredients. So it took 45 minutes to wait in line and get food. Just seemed like a shoddy operation all around. read more

My rating is based on the last movie we watched there. We have been there 5-6 times now. In the past, I've enjoyed watching movies there. You have to show up early to get a good spot for parking (minor thing): be prepared and bring your own chairs or what have you to spend time before movie starts. Movies sometimes don't' start on the time described on their website. A nice thing is that they allow you to bring your own food and beverages. They usually have usually at least 1 food truck (although when they first started they had at least 2!) and popcorn and snacks, which is a plus! Our last movie drops my experience there from a 4 to a 1. First, they used to enforce trucks to park in the last rows. This wasn't an issue for us as we got there early, but I could see how aggravating it is for people with smaller vehicles for visibility. This is not a factor for which I drop my rating...1) the lighting is now terrible, to the point that we couldn't see anything in darker scenes! this is because there is now a golf-range business to the left, and they installed some very bright lights that just reflect on the screen, really makes it hard to watch, to the point that is not enjoyable; 2) the sound was off! this is also the first time that we had this issue. I thought it was our car that for whatever reason was having an issue with the signal from the radio station, but i turned off the sound and noticed that the 2 cars next to us were also having the same "back-noise" issue. It's a shame as we enjoyed going every now and then to watch a movie, but with these new elements, especially the lighting I can not recommend it. read more
