We passed large exposed basalt bedrocks with glacial striations, milkweed, poplar trees, white pines, a bridge across the St Louis river, houses built on bedrock and many other visitors. The trail was once part of the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad (later Northern Pacific Railway). It is straight and relatively flat (except near Duluth/Spirit Mountain). There is unpaved parking at the trailhead in Hinckley for day use only; as well as Carlton, Duluth, Andrews State Forest, Dago Lake.

This was our first time driving into Duluth through Superior Wisconsin so we had to make a stop at Pattison State Park. Our favorite view of the Big Falls was from the parking area across the street from the park entrance ( you still need a park permit to park there). Short hike to the viewing area and they also have a selfie station to get a great picture in front of the falls. The colors were beautiful as we came in the fall time but I would love to come back in the spring to see the falls raging!

The bathrooms were clean for the most part but the showers were kind of gross- however some of that was due to other campers. They are also in the process of building a new shower/bathroom facility. The most standout part of our stay however was Ranger Chris. He was incredibly nice and helpful, especially towards my 5 year old who always has about a million questions and observations. Ranger Chris hooked him up (pun intended) with a series of much treasured "fish cards" and a neat activity book that we had fun completing as a family so my boy could earn a Wisconsin patch. He was patient, informative, and took the time to answer all my questions, which gave me a lot of confidence before we even got there. When we arrived, the three ladies at the sign-in shack were just as friendly and helpful. What stood out most to me was how focused they were on making sure everyone understood the process--not just for fun, but also from a safety standpoint. I really appreciated the way the staff in kayaks guided us, giving us clear heads-ups and reminders throughout the trip. That kind of attention helped a ton. The experience itself was absolutely exhilarating--riding through the rapids with friends was so wonderful. Our guides, Margo and Thea, were incredible. They were both friendly and supportive the whole time. At one point, during the last rapid, my friend lost his balance and fell into me, and almost knocking me out of the raft. Thankfully, Margo and my wife reacted quickly and grabbed me before I went overboard. Special thanks to Margo for that! Honestly, the whole trip was so much fun I was ready to go again immediately, but we had to check in our hotel and grab dinner. I just wanted to say thank you to the entire team, especially Margo and Thea, for making our first rafting adventure such a great one. We'll definitely be back soon.

Only four stars for two reasons. If you've never been rafting before, you will love this! If you have done some rafting in other states, this river will feel tame. Swiftwater adds in some time at a nice little beach where you can ride over a small rapid and hike up and the guides will show you berries! This makes up for the less exciting rapids. Also, and I'm sure this rarely happens, but the camera malfunctioned the day we were there and we didnt get pictures of our group. Bummer.

We enjoy the paddle boat rental, the office/store, the scenic views, the kind other campers along with the activities. We only live a half hour from Barnum but it is such a great place to camp. It is quickly becoming our favorite campground. The beaches are so well maintained and the lake is clear as glass. So worth the drive wherever you're coming from.

You don't really want to touch anything. You cannot lock the toilette stalls and the doors just swing open. This goes for both the mens and women's bath rooms, I guess the only thing good about it, is that its free.

Camp Heartland has a special place in my heart…read more It is a one of a kind camp for kids with HIV and AIDS. Camp is a place where kids can get away from everyday life and stress and just be a kid. The staff and everyone that help out at camp make it a warm and loving place for everyone. It is a beautiful setting where you can swim, bike, hike, fish, climb a wall, play basketball, baseball, plant a garden, play with goats and much more. They create an experience that many of the children they serve would not find anywhere else.

I have worked under John + Eric (2016-2018) and I currently work under Sara. They have all been fantastic bosses. The horse program is my specialty, but all of our programming areas offer a unique, fun and inviting camp experience! Climbing Tower, sling shots, throwing axes, Arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, field time, high ropes, etc. There are activities for all ages, interests, and ability. I have enjoyed working on the staff, each staff being slightly different year to year. We are a fun, loving and skilled group of individuals! We all have our strong suits and we all support each other in our not so strong. I would send my own kids to Camp Miller when that day comes!
