Oh no! Used to love this place but our experience today was subpar. The bar was on point and our drinks were terrific! One of the best Cosmos I've had!! Things went downhill from there. The service was not what we are used to from the Moracco and the food was horrible. Filet (NOT) and lobster (crayfish at best) was not good and extremely overpriced. Prime rib was chewy and veiny. Yes - I did let them know and the answer was - hopefully next time will be better. Not a good experience- all previous visits were good. read more

The service and the food were amazing, the atmosphere is a little dated and it serves an older clientele, I think it's a hidden gem in Dubuque. They served the most tender ribeye I've ever had. The appetizers were excellent, and the braunschweiger was amazing, seriously it's best I've ever had. The waitress said they make their own dressings, cheese and braunschweiger in the kitchen daily. In my travels through rural America, I was passing through Dubuque, Iowa and stumbled upon Morocco Supper Club. Man, I am happy I did! Located right on the Mississippi, Morocco offers a vast menu ranging from staples such as fried chicken (which they are known for) and Iowa's legendary pork tenderloin sandwich ($10.95) to quality seafood and steaks (market price) if you want to have a date night. Their craft cocktail program is quite unique and you don't have to worry about the bartenders being light of hand, as you will receive an "Iowa pour." I opted for their fried chicken dinner ($16), which was served with your choice of potato and soup or salad. The serving was massive and the chicken was crispy to perfection. Can't recall what the soup was, but it was exactly what I was looking for in America's heartland. Toss in some complimentary starters (fried bread) and you're walking out of there in a food coma. Family owned spot for over 50 years apparently and the owners know most people by face. Given the combination of diverse quality food, outstanding drinks, and small town comradary, Moracco Supper Club has certainly placed itself atop the Dubuque culinary scene. read more

I'm surprised by how few reviews, considering how long this place has been around and how it's popular. We had a group of 12 at a very busy time with the place packed. Despite the crowd, the service was prompt and the food amazing. The 12-ounce filet was made to medium+ perfection, as requested, and tender and juicy. We didn't get growled at for requesting separate checks. I can't wait to go back and have their fish fry and hash browns. read more

I grew up in Dubuque. My parents enjoyed supper clubs and ballroom dancing. They introduced my brothers and I to the supper club experience. Later, I was lucky enough to marry a woman who also loves supper clubs. On Friday evening, we enjoyed an excellent evening at the Morocco. It's been years since we'd been there. My wife ordered the vegetable beef soup and the cod dinner. I ordered the cream of broccoli soup and the breaded pork chop dinner. The food and service were wonderful. read more

To start off, our server was super sweet and I'm sure she would shine elsewhere. She was definitely the only reason we stayed. We walked in the doors and the bartender looked like he couldn't believe his eyes that we were there. Do not go here if you have any melanin; this is definitely a white country club vibes kind of place. We showed up at 9:20 due to long travel to the Dubuque area. It closed at 10 so we ordered burgers since those don't take long to cook and told the server to bring the check whenever so we weren't a pain. Asked for the burgers to be medium well and they were bright red. Pork tenderloin was horrendous, couldn't even eat any of our food. Fries were bland and dry. We were so shocked because this place was 4.5/5 stars... it must be the locals from the town that rate it so high. Server was so nice we tipped her good but all the other staff was staring at us or glaring. P.S. the burgers were much more dark red than you can see in the pictures. read more

This was my first experience at a "supper club" and it did not disappoint! I had a cheeseburger, and it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Prior to the burger they served crackers with various spreads, bread, and (upon order) an appetizer. We got the onion rings and they were amazing! As a midwesterner, i of course had to get ranch with the onion rings, and the ranch was super good. After the entrees, dessert cocktails were served. Steak was really rare when we ordered medium rare. It also had a funny taste, almost a fishy taste. Ribs were not only fall off the bones but had fallen off the bone. They were a bit over cooked, dry and also had a funny taste. read more

Probably the worst place I've eaten at. Salad that was just out of a bag haphazardly thrown on a plate no tomatoes cucumbers or anything but how it came out of the bag. French onion soup was a waste as well. Cold mushy vegetables over cooked under seasoned steak the beef tips had a heavy sauce. In town from Des Moines for an event and asked a friend from Dubuque for a restaurant recommendation. He suggested Moracco. We liked almost everything we had and the staff was great. Here are our likes and dislikes. We liked the onion rings. We liked and split the chicken dinner. We liked the baked Potato. We liked the spinach salad with bacon dressing. We liked crackers and dips they provided before the meal in leu of bread or rolls. Speaking of rolls, in older posts it talks about rolls provided with drizzled icing. These we not provided any more. They now cost $0.35 ea so we ordered two. Save your money, these are terrible. They are a cheap pre-packaged rolls with thick orange flavored icing which was also just really bad in favor and texture. Quite disappointing since they were so well spoken of in earlier posts. Next time in Dubuque we will come here again. We will try something new and skip the rolls. read more

Its also impossible to leave hungry... you start with crackers, fried bread and an assortment of butter, cheeses and spreads, and meals come with salad, bread and choice of sides! This is 1 of the last true great supper clubs of the 60s. This place is sweet nostalgia. And food is off the charts. Love the steaks. When you sit down you also get the old-fashioned relish tray. Love that too. There's a bar when you first walk in. If it's busy you can hang out there. Once you're seated the hostess and waitresses treat you like royalty. The cod is pretty good too if you're into seafood. read more

My bride and I were indulging two of our passions -- enjoying the fall colors in the upper Midwest, and hitting up classic supper clubs. Seeing as how we were in Dubuque, we had to hit up Moracco. Getting there was a bit dicy -- even with GPS we managed to miss a turn and go a mile out of our way, but that was the biggest problem of the evening. Just pulling up, the look of the place tells you that here's where the locals have been eating for a long, long time. The ambience is just classic supper-club, lots of friendly locals, and super, super food. Our steaks were done just about perfectly, with all the associated dishes coming out just right. The only sort of sour note I ran into was that the bartender seemed to be not real sure how to make a rye manhattan -- what I got back seemed to be rye whiskey on the rocks with an olive garnish, with no bitters or vermouth noted. I will note that their house rye is pretty damn good, and the cost of the cocktails made us regret that we had to drive back to our hotel. If we're in the Dubuque area again, we're definitely coming back to Moracco's. YUM, YUM, YUM. read more

There are many other supper clubs and fine food restaurants within 2-3 miles, that will provide a beautiful atmosphere, as opposed to dated, and better food at this price point. I personally don't take a restaurant serious when the cook deep fat fries seafood. It's a hit for the older crowd as the food is fairly bland to start, but there are real, decorated chefs at restaurants in Dubuque and East Dubuque, that put this place to shame at $20+ per plate. read more

Old aging place. Supper club that use to shine twenty years ago has gone down hill sadly. Food prices have risen while the quality has gone down. Starting to get dirty with that funky aging smell. Plates where dirty and glasses smelled like skunky bar rags. Seems like they have tried to cut corners to keep profit margins reasonable. What they charge for a twenty dollar plus meal is eight dollar bar food. The result has been as with so many joints of this era is an aging restaurant with a bar that will have a hard time keep the doors open in the future. As locals, we frequent the Morrocco at least weekly. Great fun for food, cocktails, friends, neighbors and guests. More or less the last remaining family owned supper club on the Dubuque side of the Mississippi, the Morrocco ownership now includes the third generation, so you know it is all about tradition. Visitors are always welcome at the Morrocco, but visitors quickly become regulars. A good pour and the dinner specials are always a sure bet. Spinach and hot bacon dressing is standard fare and will bring back memories. Try the liver and onions. Need I say more? read more

I'd heard a lot of good things about the simplicity and quality of the fare served. Getting there you drive thru a hilly residential area. For the Wed. before Xmas The bar area was jammed with a holiday office party but the restaurant was almost empty. Unpretentious setting decorated for the holiday. While no one entree or item "jumps out at you" from the menu, the plates passing by did look appetizing. Had the beef soup which was savory and tasty - from good stock. The crostini was accompanied by three spreads: liver, ham salad, and cheese all home made I believe. My crab legs were reasonably priced and the wild rice was spiced just right. My date had the huge seafood fettuccini which was tasty too. Odd that other than for ice cream and after dinner drinks, there were no other desserts. Just perfection. Family run with care, thought and love. My server, Hilary, was text book on manners, timing and attentiveness. We held a family funeral dinner there yesterday. The food was good, we have no complaints regarding the quality of the food. There apparently was an error on the number of guests that were provided to the restaurant. We were also charged adult prices for the children aged under 6 who attended. We payed for 19 meals that were never served. The problem lies in the following issues. My brother asked for more chicken and was told there was no more. Should have been plenty since we paid for 19 meals that we were never served. When my father asked about the extra meals the one waitress said "I only give you the bill". I asked the other waitress what about the left overs and she said, "I will see" No one came back once my dad paid the bill. Which happened immediately upon receiving the bill. Funny thing is my dad was going to give a 25 percent tip and I said no way , you just paid for extra meals and they kept trying to take my plate from me three times when I was not done eating. I am a slower eater and was talking to people around me. I noticed several individuals were telling the staff they were not done eating. We felt rushed. We had 6 individuals who were still coming and they kept trying to clear their place settings. The bill had a 17 percent tip already figured into the bill. Not saying we did not owe for those meals. I called today because what happen yesterday bothered me. I asked for the manager. His name is Tim and he actually was the person who answered the phone. I was polite and asked him what number was he provided. He said 60 to 70. I said ok, I thought we had indicated 50 to 60 to the funeral home. I told him about the service. I also told him one of the servers was super . I told him about the food issue. He indicated there was plenty of food left over, all we had to do was ask for it. He was there yesterday. I indicated we did and that my dad had mentioned to the server about paying for the extra meals. He had the ( balls) to tell me , if we had mentioned it yesterday it would of been handled. That statement did not sit well with me. I told him we did and nothing was done and that we had just buried my brother and my dad just wanted to go home. I told him I would be speaking with the funeral home owner who happens to know my father and that we have held several dinners there over the years for my dad's family including our immediate family and there would be no more on our behalf. If the manager happens to read this here is my final remark to him. Good customer service would have been done if the manager had come out and personally asked us how everything was . If that had happened , I would not be writing this plus had to buy dinner last night for our family. We would of eaten the 19 dinners we paid for. We recently had my brother's funeral dinner here for approx 200 people. The food was delicious and service was impeccable! They even allowed us in early to put personalized center pieces on table. Tim and staff made everything stress free for us during a very difficult time for our family. We truly appreciate the detail they put into making sure our guests were happy. The inlaws were very excited to take us to the Marocco Supper Club. Yum. Sounds great. We were asked before leaving to get dressed up. Wow, sounds like a nice place. We were some of the first patrons on the night. Which was a weird start, but hey, maybe it gets rolling later here in DBQ? We ordered steak and fish dishes. Actually, not worth typing anymore. 1 star. Jeans and hoodys everywhere (I love my jeans and hoody which I would have gladly worn). Food was below subpar (canned veggies for the "veggie" Dry bad dinner rolls. Gross "cheese" sauces for bread. My steak was OK, almost as good as I cook at home. Not at all like Ruth Chris but same price (What?)... I'd rate Denny's 3 stars for comparison. Actually, I think I missed out on the experience. We just had a surprise birthday party in Moracco's party room and we were so impressed on every level! This is the place to go for family dinner parties. The linens were crisp, white and pressed with linen napkins and a beautiful table setting with lit votives. The food was fantastic from frog legs, shrimp, salmon, steaks, prime rib. Everyone was very pleased. Large variety of sides, soup, spinach salad, house salad, veggie, potato choices and frosted rolls! Our waiters were professional, efficient, and attentive! We had carafes of water on the table, and they were promptly refilled. I strongly recommend this supper club. We had not been there since we left town after college. We had warm memories from yesteryear, and look forward to a new tradition of family dinners. The bathroom was around the corner and the bar was fast at serving drinks. The private area was great for mom with hearing aids. This place is hands down better than the East Dubuque supper club for service, quality, food choice and overall dining experience. read more
