Melanie at More than Cake makes the best gluten free and dairy free baked goods I have ever tasted. Even my husband thinks they are better than gluten and dairy filled cakes and treats. Melanie made the perfect lemon huckleberry cake for our wedding and even make cake jars to go along with it. Everybody loved them and i was in heaven. She's so easy and fun to work with! Custom, gourmet cakes and cupcakes using ethical, quality ingedients. NEVER from a box and always decadent and delicious! We also specialize in gluten-free! We do cakes for ANY occassion including: weddings, birthdays, showers and special events. We are an in-home bakery operating under Idaho laws and food regulations. We are serious about safety with our gluten-free items (our family is also gluten-free), however, we use a shared kitchen with other allergens like wheat, dairy and nuts. If you recall, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a Lemon-Elderflower cake with raspberry filling for their wedding cake. I can't say enough good things about this unique business. The client had a vision for the desserts and Blythe came through, squeezing in this special order for patriotic cupcakes, as well as a birthday cake, during peak wedding season. I REALLY appreciated that. Blythe was very responsive - like immediate responses - and made the whole process so easy, which I greatly appreciated since I had many other elements to line up prior to the day of the event. Blythe delivered the cupcakes in a variety of DELICIOUS and moist flavors (the carrot cake was out of this world and SO flavorful and "spicey" and was a favorite amongst the guests) and displayed them on a wrapped wooden board and secured each to the board with a little dab of icing to keep them in place. The display was EXACTLY like the inspiration photo, right down to the fondant stars! Though we had so many special touches as the Celebration of Life luncheon, I think the cupcake display was the client's favorite. Blythe also made a birthday cake for the client's daughter's birthday, which was the next day, and delivered that on time to their Air B&B. Working with Blythe made the experience so easy. I've been curious about Big Jud's for a while, but since I live over 30 minutes away from their…read morelocation, it was hard to justify the drive. We were close to the area and we finally were able to visit and I'm sure glad we did. The restaurant is located in a nice shopping center on the corner of Eagle and Overland, immediately on the other side of 84. The location is nestled towards the back of the center and can easily be missed as it's tucked in the corner of a small lot. We were greeted with a huge smile and swift seating to a booth in the larger dining room area. Even though it was barely 11:30 am on a Saturday, the dining room was already filling with hungry customers and the kitchen was notably bustling. We had Kaitlyn as our server. She arrived with a sunny disposition and eagerness to get our orders going. Downside, due to cost, tomatoes are not available. I have to say, that kind of broke my heart a little...tomatoes, in my eyes, are a requirement for every burger. I ordered the Bleu Bacon single burger and hubby had the cheeseburger. We ordered a small fry (1/2 pound) for us to share. Food did take quite a while to come out, but our server did come by several times to check on us, refill drinks, and give us updates (apparently a large to-go order backlogged the kitchen). The burgers came out first. I was a little underwhelmed with the small burger plate and cheese that was obviously cold when added to the burger and had become a tad sweaty from being steamed instead of melted. I had little hope....but then I took my first bite. The Kaiser hamburger bun was soft, burger patty was nicely seasoned and the bleu cheese was punchy without being overwhelming. The bacon sung through. The fries quickly followed. We were surprised by the home cut style, thick and irregular...rustic and perfectly cooked. These suckers are huge. But with every fry, it was crunch-tender on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I really enjoyed our visit, but the place seemed to be a little understaffed. Several tables had plates stacked or cleaning supplies atop the tables. That aside, service was attentive and the food tasted great, even without the tomatoes.

I was lucky enough to sample Melanie's amazing cupcakes earlier in the year - chocolate cake with salted-caramel frosting. OHMYWORD they were life-changing! I could not wait for an occasion to place an order! FINALLY my son's birthday came and I placed an order for cupcakes (dulce de leche) and a small round cake. His party was dinosaur themed and Melanie knocked it out of the park! Her creations were ten-times cuter than anything on Pinterest! Her attention to detail is remarkable. The joy on my son's face when he saw his cake and cupcakes was priceless. I had told Melanie that my son's favorite color was green. It was such a fun surprise to cut into his round cake to find marbled green and aqua vanilla cake - SO fun! I am not a sweet fan. Like at all. I really love savory and spicy foods and snacks the most. All of my feelings about sweets change the moment I hear mention of Melanie's cake. I have been known to order an extra dozen cupcakes for "friends" in order to eat them myself. (Don't tell my kids and husband, they freeze beautifully BTW) I know that there are lots of options when buying a cake or cupcakes but to try More than Cake is to know that all other options just don't cut it. Knowing how much time, attention and care go into the final product makes me feel like I have given the best cake possible to my family (mostly me, to be honest) and I'm happy to know it's all the best quality. Melanie is phenomenal. Not only does she have great customer service, but her cupcakes are to DIE for. I loooove her gluten free cupcakes especially, as I am gluten free and it is so hard to find gluten free options that are actually tasty and satisfying. I actually think that her gluten free cupcakes are better than normal cupcakes! They are super moist and flavorful, unlike most gluten free baked goods that tend to crumble and are dry. Hers are the perfect consistency. Her flavors are impeccable as well, and there's no way I can ever stick with just one. I would highly recommend her for all of your baked goods and cupcake needs! The cake was absolutely amazing and so is the baker, Melanie. She is a pleasure to work with especially since I was from out of town. Working with Melanie is painless and even PLEASANT! As a business woman for 45 yrs., I know this is not always the case. When I am in Meridian I will contact Melanie over and over again! Not only did she do exactly what I asked, but she delivered it to the restaurant so that I was able to make it a surprise Birthday for my daughter. I highly recommend More than Cake Co. The BEST tasting cupcakes I've ever had in my life, hands down! Not only does she specialize in dietary restrictions for her customers, but you can't tell the difference in taste between a regular cupcake or one that's gluten free...and that's incredibly hard to do! My daughter has celiac and I can't bake a darn thing right, that's gluten free, to save my life!!! And then I found this incredible angel who not only bakes like a master, but her decorating skills are beyond talented. Seriously the very best tasting cakes I have ever had in my life. And it was gluten free! Beautifully decorated, SO delicious. Not too sugary or buttery like some that try to compensate for it being gluten free. I can't even put into words how delicious it was. It's almost impossible to describe these cakes. There are a lot of companies that can make pretty cakes/cupcakes. The thing that sets More then Cakes apart is not only are they beautiful they are so delicious. I've been to many events that the cake looked cool but eating it wasn't cool. Melanie definitely has a talent we have been using her gluten-free cupcakes for many events probably around five or six by now. Birthdays, dinner parties events at our office they are amazing and I like to think somewhat "healthier" because they're gluten-free, no one would ever know they're absolutely amazing.
