    Morgan Hill dog park
    Malathy A.

One of the best dog parks in the area. Most of the dog owners I've spoken to have said so, they even drive out from different places to bring their pooch to this one. It's a large enclosed area relatively well kept. It does get busy during the weekend especially during the mornings. But best part is, the park is large enough to accommodate a lot of dogs and people. Some of the nicest and friendliest dogs/people come here. Definitely a great place for your pooch to exercise. It can get smelly sometimes. But I like how it gets cleaned frequently. And looks like new set of balls are left for the dogs after the cleaning.

Of all the dogs park in Santa Clara County, none compare to Morgan Hill's dog park.  The only dog park, to my knowledge, which is superior is Carmel Beach. Many of the other reviewers are spot-on, in regards to the size and quality of the park.  The grass, shade, benches and vast size are both dog and owner friendly. Also, I've met nothing but really nice and responsible dog owners at this park. I've also noticed the City of Morgan Hill does a really good job maintaining the park.  Weekly, they mow the lawn and patch worn out spots.  They recently aerated the lawn and usually open, despite the rain. However, please don't allow this HORRID owner to ruin your experience. My dog is usually wiped out by the time we make it home.  Its because of the other playful dogs and wonderful owners out there.   I've made a ton of new friends from our daily visits and learn more about each breed.  I'm very lucky to live 5-minutes from this park.

Was so disappointed with our visit to the Gilroy Dog Park that we had to check this one out. Much better. There is a section for small dogs and a section for large dogs. There are shaded areas and a few benches, but I guess the most important thing is that there is grass. Annie found a few friends here too. A lot more dog owners visiting this park than in Gilroy.

Staring deeply into your eyes and waving three fingers slowly across your field of vision: "This is the dog park you've been looking for..." This is a gorgeous dog park; it's the best I've ever seen. + Fenced in area for small dogs with a wading pool, doggie drinking fountains, fire hydrants, lush green grass, covered seating and open seating for humans, and an airlock-style double gate system to prevent accidental escapes +Free bags for dog poo available. Bring your own if you can though. + The people who come here are awesome. Everyone is cool, kind, and takes care of their dogs. + There's an enormous fenced in area just for big dogs. There's big trees that kids enjoy climbing. + Theres a respectable sized duck pond with a little trail loop to walk around it. + There's a nice playground for kids just past the dog park. + There's plenty of parking. + Apart from the dog stuff this is a great, safe area where people hang out, barbecue, and spend time with friends. What's not to love?? People come here from all over. A guy I was taking to there today drives from Almaden valley every other day. Pet stores for miles around tell people to come here because it's the best place for dogs. Bring your fur babies here! They will love it!

Very good dog park. Been there once (4-19-2012), which was the day it opened back up after the grass was re-seeded. Location: near Monterey Ave and W. Edmundson in Morgan Hill, CA in the Morgan Hill Community Park. 6 foot fences, (what I call) the 'all dog' section is so big you hardly know there are fences, a smaller little dog section, lots of grass, shade trees, fresh water with two spouts on both sides with drains!, bags provided, real (and clean) bathrooms just past the tennis courts with soap and sink, permanent benches, tennis balls ---- and nice dogs and nice people! I love the rule that children are not supposed to chase dogs. (common sense to me, but have had to deal with way too many over the top children throwing each other to the ground, hitting each other with 2x4's, more) Would I change anything? Of course (been to 25 dog parks?) but it is a very short list: I would change this: Small Dog Section currently has a 'height line' which never really works as, ie, Basset Hounds can, and do, go in & are too much for small dogs (have witnessed 1st hand serious injury with this). Pick a weight to cap the small dog section at (I say 25 lbs) and stick to that. I would change the signs to: Small Dogs and All Dogs (all sized dogs are currently in the 'big' section). The only dog park I have ever been to with a dedicated 'big dog only' section was a dog park that had THREE sections: small, big and all. If you do not have all three? then they are *always* small dogs and all dogs. My 15 lb Schipperke & I are almost always in the 'all dog' section. I would: add a rule where dog owners are NEVER to have their leashed dogs in an off-leash area. I would explain why (leads to leash aggression on both sides, Google it if new to the concept). Today a lady was in the all dog section with two 4 month old small breed puppies on leashes. I encouraged her to take them off the leashes, explained why and she did it. My old dog park had this rule....as do others. Scared your first time to dog park? GO EARLY or LATE. Make it your own - alone. Then go the next time when a few dogs are there, and on. Good job to the City of Morgan Hill, CA!

My Siberian Husky really loved it here! Not only were all the other dogs friendly but all of the other pet owners were friendly as well. It's also convenient that there's a section for the dogs to go get water.

All of Monterey has tan bark in their parks. No grass. It's so frustrating. This dog park has shade and lots of grass for the dogs to run in. I wouldn't come anytime close to if having rained and you have to watch out for other people's overly aggressive dogs but it's a really nice park.

Ask the Community - Morgan Hill Dog Park

When is the best time to bring your dog? When are there a lot of other dogs in the park?

We go in the early evening (5 or 6pm) during weekdays and different hours on weekends, and there are always a lot of dogs. It’s muddy on Sunday mornings so I’m guessing they water the grass that morning.

We came here for a kid's birthday party, and this park is so nice!…read more It's very spacious, lots of free parking, and lots of features. There is an extensive playground with different types of swings, merry-go-round things, a large playhouse thing, and several slides on a little hill on the playground. In the area with the slides they have turf material and there is a recycling box with cardboard so that kids can use it and also sled down the hill. They have different types of courts like for basketball, pickleball, tennis, baseball. There is lots of space to walk on the gravel path, and there is sort of a pond area (which appears to be less maintained). There are many picnic areas that are shaded too. I really liked that the area the birthday party was located had a gate so that kids wouldn't run out and away. The playground also had a gate on it too, which is great for childrens' safety and parents' ease of minds! We noticed the bathrooms are somewhat high tech with lights to activate the automatic doors and lights to indicate that the bathroom is occupied. I didn't go in, so I can't comment on cleanliness/upkeep. Wish this kind of park was more common. I would highly recommend this park!

New magical bridge playground opens this weekend. It's not even open yet and it looks beautiful so far :) It has a dog park, a trail, a basketball court, a tennis court, and a baseball field. I almost forgot, the ducks! It has a lake with ducks! I like walking the trail because there are plenty of trees which creates shade, so it's not just sunny. The bathrooms are located in between the tennis courts and the baseball field. Also, parking is free! Anyone can come with children, strollers, solo individuals, people with dogs, anyone. Everyone is in their own world, living their life with nature.

Unfortunately this dog park has a disproportionate number of inconsiderate owners compared to other parks in the Monterey Bay. Many unfixed, unvaccinated, untrained, and aggressive dogs that will attack or hump your dog repeatedly. I came with a friend last summer and both our dogs picked up a respiratory/eye infection. Because of this, you'll often find people walk their dogs on the track instead of using the dog park. I usually do this unless I recognize the dogs at the park.

There is a large portion of dogs in this park which are not spayed or neutered. For the last week I've had nothing but trouble with other dogs attacking my dogs. Today I had a person upon my arrival warn me that their female was not friendly with other females. If you have to warn someone about your dog then you don't belong in a dog park. Sure enough the dog attacked one of my dogs. If your dog isn't fixed it is not a good idea to bring them to a dog park. The chances of altercations increase. I won't be going back to this park any longer. I'll drive the extra time to go to Gilroy which has a much better quality of non-aggressive dogs.

Had they not been there, this trip would have been pathetic. There is just old gravely dirt and no sign of grass for miles. Due to that, I will just tell you what you need to know about layout. The Gilroy Dog Park is located in a nice city park with plenty of parking, bathrooms, & picnic tables in the park. I *loved* the multiple signs pointing the way to the dog park! The park appears to be maintained. In the dog park there is: A section for "small dogs" & a section for "large dogs" (not the typical small & ALL sections I am used to). Small dogs can go into the large area *at owners risk* (typical of my other dog parks). Note: I have a "small" dog but almost always go into the "all" dog sections of dog parks. The dog park has lots of trash cans, doggie poop bags in dispensers posted in many locations, shade, benches, fresh water in both sections, "push bar" gates, 4 foot fences and a bulletin board. The ground appears to be dirt but it might be "decomposed granite" that needs to be refreshed (see photos). My only complaint was that the water drain on the "big dog section" was clogged and backed up, I am currently asking around for who to contact to fix it. Today, 18 July 2012, it was only 84 degrees at 12 noon. Hopefully this is not the lamest review I have ever given for a dog park.....but I did want to 1.) add this dog park in Yelp (check), 2.) tell ya'll what you should know (check) and post multiple *good* photos (check). If I go back, if my dog gets to play with others I would be happy to give the place more stars. I am *not* from Gilroy nor do I go to Gilroy often, but my 2 year old dog has gone to more than 30 dog parks and I have something to offer in that department.
