(This review is for fitness training with David S)…read more I can't recommend David highly enough. As a former college athlete, he brings a deep level of knowledge--not just in building strength and fitness, but also in injury management, recovery, and long-term sustainability. That expertise shows up in every session. As an athlete in my mid-40s with my fair share of injuries and the wear and tear that comes with age and life, David has been very helpful. He has helped me stay consistent, get stronger, and avoid setbacks. What really sets him apart is how attentive and adaptable he is. He adjusts workouts on the fly based on how you're feeling that day, while still challenging you in the right ways. He brings great energy, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor that makes tough workouts enjoyable. And after the workout he takes you through stretches, which is a great way to end the session. It helps me feel calm and restored as I transition to the next thing. Beyond all of that, David is simply a kind, genuine person who truly cares about his clients. It's clear this is more than a job for him--it's his mission.

I asked my primary doctor for a new referral for my PT she sent me here and OMG, what a difference, Johnny really took the time to hear me out, hear my concerns, we tackle literally everything on my back and around what it was bothering me, he taught me new ways to work out, we find out what I was doing wrong, he taught me even how to run and breath correctly. My lower back pain is gone, I can bend easily, I am not afraid all the tine to hurt myself. I am so grateful for him. The front desk staff is not friendly all the time but that's ok.

The small group training format makes a huge difference: the coaches genuinely care about your progress, and you feel like you're getting stronger together. Their approach is refreshingly balanced, no pressure to train every single day. They encourage consistency with a realistic 3x-a-week cadence that's sustainable and actually delivers results. One of the biggest standouts is their incredible nutritionist, Celia. She's knowledgeable, encouraging, and keeps things flexible and realistic, no rigid plans or extreme restrictions. Plus, because she's also a trainer at the gym, she understands the full picture of your training and can tailor her guidance accordingly. I've worked with several nutritionists in the past and Celia is by far the best. Lift Society even throws in the occasional social outing, which makes it feel more like a community than just a gym. It's honestly one of the hardest things to leave behind as I move from LA to Brooklyn.

The trainers are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely committed to fitness. I've learned proper form, improved my posture, and built strength I didn't know I had. When I first started lifting, I was wobbly and off-balance - like Bambi. Now, I feel confident and powerful. I've also gained a much better understanding of how important nutrition is. This is hands down the best gym I've ever been to, and I'm so glad I found it. Shout out to the trainer Alexis who has been so patient with me and cheered me on since day one. She's so motivational. She always has such a warm and positive spirit about her. I don't know how she does it with her super early morning classes lol She is truly a gem. Out of all trainers I have ever had she is the one that has inspired me the most to know that it's possible and I can do it. The proof is there! I've done DEXA scans along the way and I've continuously cut fat and gained muscle.

As a longtime Yelper, reviews for the various Orangetheory Fitness studios I have been to have been…read morea longtime coming. OTF Playa Vista is first on my list as this is actually my home studio! While I originally took classes (for about one month) over at the Culver City location while waiting for Playa Vista to open, I am actually a Founding Member at Playa Vista and have enjoyed being a member of this studio since January of 2020. My very first class at this studio was with one of my all-time favorite coaches, Jene! The coaches back in the day were truly OG including Jene, Hayley, Danielle, Tyler, Breanna, and Jenna. Since the pandemic, there has been a lot of turnover and/or reassignment of coaches and the "new" head coach, Lays, has very quickly moved up the ranks to one of my favorite coaches. Before getting into the actual workout, just a quick note as to why I am focusing so much on the coaches... For me, they can truly make or break a class and I really value the enthusiasm and encouragement of the aforementioned coaches as well as their music and ability to keep us all on schedule! A 30 second all-out should not turn into a 35 second all-out! Now, what is an all-out anyway?! Just part of the method to OTF's madness. I actually read Ellen Latham's book and just love the concept and science behind OTF. OTF is a heart-rate based high intensity interval training hour long workout class/program. More often than not I take the 2G (two group) class which spends about half the time on the treadmill and half the time over in the weight 'room' area. Of course, there is also the water rower during which you spend more time on during 3G (three group) classes. Again, I'm so thankful to all of the awesome coaches who tell me what the heck I'm supposed to be doing on any given day. I never thought I'd say this but yes, I prefer to workout in the mornings and this studio has some of the earliest classes in the Los Angeles area. You can take class as early as 5am on Tuesdays through Fridays! And, as other reviews mention, the parking is convenient. You can park on the street or in the parking garage, and OTF will validate up to 90 minutes in the Whole Foods garage. With that being said, there are a bunch of stores you can frequent before or after your workout such as CVS and Whole Foods or maybe you even want to catch a movie... There are two showers at this location as well - bring your own towel. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the front desk employees... They are so helpful with signing us in, fixing our heart rate monitors, and dealing with those of us who are a bit more difficult, ultimately accommodating everyone with a smile. They are so responsive to text messages and have let me bring friends (if it's their first class) for free more times than I can count! Just remember to review the contract/membership before you sign your life away. Yes, you will get penalized with a late fee if you sign up for a class and no show without cancelling eight hours in advance. For me, this is huge motivation to get my butt to class. Also, plan to arrive to class early - if you're more than five minutes late, you will not be allowed into the class. Lastly, you need to give at least one month's notice to end your membership, and you will be charged yet another month. These are policies you should be aware of when you sign up. I have used the "freeze" option on more than one occasion so that's always an option if you need a break for whatever reason. Now that I've written a thesis on Orangetheory, give it a try - I highly recommend it. The only thing that would make Playa Vista the best studio in Los Angeles would be if they get the tablet rowers and new treadmills. Until then a girl can dream... Hope to see you in class, don't forget your heart rate monitor!

Two and a half months later, I'm stronger, I can see real changes in my body, and I actually convinced my husband - who has never done personal training or group fitness in his life - to start training with him too. That says everything. Perseo is an exceptional teacher, not just a trainer. From day one, he made the whole thing approachable - breaking down form, explaining the reasoning behind each exercise, and tailoring everything to exactly where I was starting from. He caught early on that I was slightly favoring one leg during squats and corrected the imbalance quickly, which is the kind of detail that would have taken me years to notice on my own. He also goes above and beyond in ways that feel personal rather than transactional - extra time for stretching, genuine attention to how your body is responding session to session. If you've been nervous to start or feel like the gym isn't "for you," Perseo will change that.
