I took my car to Morrison's for six years before taking my business elsewhere last fall. They just became too unpleasant to deal with. If you're willing to agree to the car repairs they recommend, you'll do just fine with them. However, if you want the option of asking your mechanic to do something different than what they recommend, then my advice is to go to a different garage. Morrison's wants you to take their recommendations, as well as get all of your car's maintenance and repairs exclusively with them, and if you don't...well, you'll unfortunately get to find out for yourself if you chose them as your mechanic. I'd also always thought Morrison's was on the expensive side. I just had to have the exact same repair done at my new garage that Morrison's had done last year, and my new garage charged me $179 less. In addition, they were able to permanently fix a problem for which Morrison's had been continually doing band-aid repairs...repairs that broke every nine months or so and made me bring in my car. We took our Honda in to have our AC checked as it stopped working. They told us it was completely & irreparably broken. They would replace it for well over $1000. While contemplating this, I joked & said "I'm not going to go over a bump & it will suddenly start working again right?". The guy said that there was no way since it was burned out. Well we decided against getting it fixed because it's an older car. 2 weeks later the AC started working again! I am so lucky that I didn't lay down a couple paychecks to get something fixed that didn't need it. Either they completely lied to us or are horrible repairmen. I tried out this local mechanic because they were nearby where I lived. I wish I hadn't. They charged too much for repairs, and as I am a student, I literally could not afford it. (Another shop a friend suggested in Waltham made the same repairs for over $400 less.) When I politely declined their estimate, they were surly, muttered under their breath, and lost all pretense of customer service. It appears from other reviews that the shop is really professional if you accept their estimate, and I would believe that. Just make sure you don't decline their estimate or you'll wish you had gone somewhere else... read more

All I will say is BUYER BEWARE. I brought my car in with a bad exhaust. I asked them to change the oil / filter as well... They called me in the morning with an estimate of $2200. YES $2200 for EXHAUST and OIL CHANGE. They proceeded to tell me that I had to have my catalytic converter replaced in addition to all exhaust, front to back. I asked if there was any chance it could just be the exhaust and the converter was alright. (My car is up for inspection shortly and according to them it would fail miserably without replacing Everything.) I politely said no way, picked my car up and brought it to a place in Brookline that has always done right by me. they called me back in the afternoon with a quote of $680 with labor and said only the muffler and mid-pipe were bad. They said not only was the catalytic converter fine to pass inspection, I should safely get another year to year and a half out of it before needing to replace it. (They also asked me when I dropped it off if the engine light was on, I sad no and he said "Well there's your answer. We'll see what codes come back from the computer and let you know" etc...) I have had work done here in the past. I always walked away feeling cheated since their bills were always much more than anticipated. Now I can say with confidence this is the case with them. They will smile at you and make you feel like you're getting a "friendly neighborhood" repair from a "local business" by people who care about your car... This is their game. They play into the trust some people in Jamaica Plain will put into a local business simply because it's local. They have the used car salesman routine down to a science, but in this case it repairs. That "friendly customer service" everyone rants and raves about on here is their routine, and they do it well. They fooled me with it several times before. Realistically will rake you over the coals with it if they think they can get away with it. As other reviewers have stated their whole free oil change thing is a hook and crook routine. It's there to earn your trust in them. Promotions like that aren't red flags when a business then follows through and does right by you with good honest work, but in this case I suspect it's to reel you in like a fish and get you to believe their whole community "story" they sell as a local business in JP for over 50 years. Do yourself a favor next time they call you with an estimate, get a second one. Done at place you, or a friend knows and trusts well. I'm confident you will find it to be sufficiently lower. All kidding aside, they took my car in the day after I called for an appointment, did an oil change (free, as a new customer), and did a thorough safety evaluation as requested. Not only did they have a reasonable list, they didn't pressure at all, let me cherry pick which services I wanted done. Prices seem reasonable and everyone there was very friendly, communicative, and pleasant to talk to. Definitely have a new customer with our family! read more

It's true that the staff is courteous. They will explain things clearly and they aren't pushy if you decline certain work be done. BUT they are VERY PRICEY!!!! Work they've suggested I do for $500 can be done for $200 elsewhere. They seem to always come up with extra things that need doing, even for my relatively new 2009 Toyota. I go here for the sole reason that it's close to my home. But their prices make me cringe. read more

Hands down, their customer service is what makes this place so phenomenal. I had been taking my car to a dealer shop for a while, which was ok for maker-specific things (recalls, etc), but when I felt like i was being jerked around and flat out lied to by the guys at the dealer shop, I called Morrison's right away for a second opinion. I was able to bring my car in that day, and they were honest with me and talked to me like a human being. Car stuff is usually pretty expensive so if I'm going to have to drop some big cash I'd rather it be at a place like Morrison's where they go through everything with you and don't try to pull any fast ones on you. read more

Do not bring vehicle here! Worst experience and not to mention the prices were extremely high for parts. I could have given them my vehicle for the cost of parts. I found the parts cheaper of same quality that was roughly 200% cheaper than what they quoted. I was visiting from out of town and needed a quick fix and I had no choice but to use this place. However, I feel they took advantage of my situation, thus the high prices I was stuck paying for such a simple fix. read more

Very friendly, respectful and professional shop that will charge you AS MUCH AS THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH. STAY AWAY. Went to this shop because of a brake issue. They said one my front brakes was shot and I needed to replace it along with some other parts to the tune of about $650. Plus they found some "additional maintenance" that I should also get for another $50. Balked at the price, and got a written quote for the work and started calling around to get second opinions. Other shops all quoted me, for the same work, ~$400. When I finally brought the car in to another shop, the mechanic said my brake's were worn, but not in need of replacement yet. They just needed cleaning and a realignment. While everyone at Morrison's is very polite (they even have a TV with a slideshow of puppies and cats in the lobby), they are not honest. If you don't know anything about cars (like me), they will try and take advantage. To be fair, maybe it was the mechanic's professional opinion that I should have replaced my brakes, and the mechanic at the other shop I went to just had a different professional opinion. Fine, I don't know. But even so! Their prices are still ~50% higher than everywhere else I called. And if the mechanic knew that the work wasn't necessary and recommended that I get the work done anyway... I paid them once to fix an earlier issue, but never again. read more

I don't think I will ever bring my car anywhere else! Seriously, these guys are amazing. Not only are they friendly, they are organized and efficient and do excellent work. I feel so comfortable bringing my Jeep to the guys at Morrison's. I never feel like they are trying to cheat or up-sell me, either. For example, I brought my car in today because I thought there was something wrong with it, but they called and told me I was all set. Free of charge, too. Love. I frickin' love these guys. Always friendly and accommodating. I always feel like they are helping me make the best choices for my car, versus constantly trying to upsell me, or load me down with unnecessary work. They are certainly not the cheapest option, and their hours are extremely limited. (Guys, would it kill you to stay open past 5:30? Or be open on Saturday?) Perhaps most important, though, they're always nice to my dog; he even gets excited when we're getting close because he knows he's going to get a treat. read more

Just want to reiterate what others have said: Morrison's provides great service, isn't pushy when you turn down recommended service, and takes the time to explain everything related to your bill and the shape your car is in. This is great for people like me who are rather clueless when it comes to these matters. If you take your care here for routine work (oil change, tire balance, etc.) they'll most likely recommend your take care of some other things, which can get a bit annoying. Howevever, I've gone through with a couple (brake adjustment and cleaning, replacement of struts and stabilizer links), and I've noticed huge improvements in the way my car drives afterwards. I'm not 100% sure how the prices stack up, which is why I left this at four stars. But if you're looking for a trustworthy autoshop in Boston, I recommend giving Morrison's a try. read more

Had to : Repaced Exhaust System : Muffler and pipes Exhaust Gasget on: 6/11/2019 after a mere 25K miles. Muffler and Pipes Exhaust System were done at Morrisons Auto Rite on 8/2016. All the Exhaust work needed to replaced after a mere 25K. And my car is garaged all winter. Breaks : Ceramic Break pads had to be redone after one year. They were done in 8/2017. Replaced in 2018. I love these guys. I wish they were open a little later into the evening (they close at 5:30) and had some weekend hours, but what can you do. Their service is excellent. Prices are very fair. They are clearly honest - when I asked for a general check-up, the guy told me I could get a second opinion somewhere else and another mechanic may not think I needed ___ (whatever it was done), but it was his professional opinion that I did get it. Well, I haven't gotten around to getting a second opinion yet, it's so hard to find time to take my car in, but I trust the people at Morrison's. I won't give someone 5 stars, but if I were to, it would most likely be the guys over at Morrison's. They are amazing. Seriously. I have been to several mechanics in the area and I find them to be the most honest, best work you can get. Don't get me wrong, the work is not inexpensive by any means. They are very costly, however, they do everything in their power to keep customers and keep them happy. They work with my warranty company (an extremely annoying task) on my behalf and always let me know before hand what kind of prices I am looking at. I've been a loyal Morrison's customer for 15 years, since the day I moved to JP in 2004. They've been there through four cars both old and new, and have done approximately one billion oil changes over the years. (Those complimentary oil changes are amazing.) They always talk through stuff with me, discuss what needs doing when (because money is a thing), and have never once condescended in the way I've experienced in other places I've lived. We love this place and go here for all our car needs. The people are super friendly, knowledgeable, and fair. When we had a lot of work that needed to be done on our car they helped us prioritize the must-dos from the can-waits. They're also great about scheduling, I have never have to wait long to make an appointment and often can bring in my car the day I call in. This is a great auto shop. They're honest, good about explaining in layman's terms what the problem is, and great about turn around time. The only reason they get four stars instead of five is because they were a little pricier than other quotes I had received, but I'd rather pay a little more now and have it fixed than have to pay twice later. I've had three car repairs at Morrison's in the past year and have also spoken to them about auto issues on several other occasions. When I moved to JP, Morrison's was recommended as expensive but very high quality - anytime they have your car in they will do a full check up on the vehicle and give you a list of things to watch for. Some reviewers on Yelp are turned off by this last fact because they think that Morrison's is trying to squeeze more business from them, but I've never felt pressured into a repair and find the information that they provide incredibly useful. I'm not a "car guy" but I do like to know about the state of my vehicle so that I can plan financially and target my maintenance. Take your car there for a simple oil change and you'll get a lot of valuable information in addition. The mechanics at Morrison's have earned my trust. Toward the end of the life of my car, the folks are Morrison's were very straight forward with me about the costs and longevity of doing each repair. They advised me against making repairs when my money would be better directed toward a new car. They were helpful in recommending car models that I might consider, and they offered to look over for a used car that I would consider purchasing. At Morrison's you get what you pay for, and I believe their professionalism and trustworthiness are a great value. Some of their repairs have been on the expensive side, as others here have described. If you know what needs to be fixed and have a flexible schedule, some other places (e.g. West Cork Auto) might do it for less. I recommend to Morrison's to my friends because I am happy with the consistent quality of their work and the trustworthiness of their mechanics. read more

Family owned business. This is the first mechanic that has a top notch consistent operation. The place is clean, they say what they are going to do and do it right the first time. I have brought several vehicles here and I have never had to return for the same reason. I usually go twice a year to winterize my car and another run in the spring. I brought my car to a different shop in the same neighborhood to listen to an exhaust noise. While that shop wasn't unhelpful, I felt like I was bothering them. I took my car up the road to Morrison's instead, and they were wonderful. Mike, one of the owners, came out to listen to my car even though everyone was on a lunch break. He quickly gave me a theory of the problem (an exhaust leak due to bad motor mounts), and asked me to leave the car for about 45 minutes so they could look it over properly. When I returned, Mike even let me come into the shop to see the problems on my car firsthand, right under the lift. He took the time to explain everything to me in a calm, friendly, and detailed way without overwhelming me with jargon. After speaking with him, it was clear that the repairs my car needed were absolutely necessary. They even ended up charging me a little less than their estimate--a fair price for a serious job that wasn't going to be cheap no matter where I went. I'd recommend Morrison's to anyone! read more
