When my car started acting strangely (not riding smoothly) I took it to the place where I get my tires changed and filled and they told me my rear differential was rusty and needed to be replaced . So I took it to a mechanic I had used before in Jamaica Plain. They said the job was too big for them and to call Arborway. They were great. They found the part which was not easy for my car, replaced it and had it back to me in 2 days. That was a year ago. It's been fine ever since and I intend to use them for any problems that come up in the future. Also, communication was perfect and I liked doing business with them. Good company. read more

I was given a car that hadn't been serviced in awhile so it had a lot of issues once I started driving it. They were able to fix them all for a reasonable price and even explain what the problems are to someone who doesn't know much about cars! I came here for a safety inspection after registering my new used car. They took me as a walk in, and got to me pretty quickly. I waited in their customer lobby, which was clean and had a little phone charging station which I thought was a nice touch. I ended up falling the inspection due to gashes in one tire. They offered to do the work there or I could go out on my own, either way the reinspection would be free. I chose to go to my tire guy. They honored their statement and the passing reinspection was free. Overall they seemed fair and I'd give them another chance. read more

Pros: inspection done in 10 minutes, free coffee Cons: horrendous service, no communication of what was going on, manager Greg talked so fast and incomprehensibly that I had no idea what he was saying, asked about their services and was handed a business card with no explanation, asked if he had something to clean my windshield and was given a shrug, was suggested by the mechanic to clean my lights and he directed me to go buy something on the internet and clean it myself. The entire time I felt like a tool as if I was wasting their time by being there and not a valued customer at all. Bottom line: if you want to get your car fixed and feel like you're on a factory assembly line with no explanation of what's going on and no customer service, come here. If you actually want to know what's going on and form a relationship here to get your cars serviced here long term, go somewhere else. I will not be returning. read more

Saw this place had good reviews and it is right next to my place of work, so I decided to bring my car here for a state inspection. I called ahead of time and was told to just come in, first come first serve and inspections take about 5-10 minutes. I showed up around 12:50-12:55 while on my lunch break, no one ahead of me, got my car in right away and was told it would be ready in 5 minutes. It wasn't until approximately 1:20, 25-30 minutes later that I was told my car was ready, but REJECTED because "my windshield wiper fluid was not working". I was confused because I knew it was low, but I had used it this morning and it worked fine. He said that they refilled it but it was not working. I said sometimes in the winter (it's January) it freezes or ice covers the dispenser and it takes a couple tries to get it to squirt. He told me they tried many times and it wasn't working and that I had 60 days to get it fixed. Frustrated, I got in the car and yes at first it did not dispense, but not even 15 seconds later on MY SECOND TRY it works!!! (I'm assuming because they added new fluid it just needed a couple squirts to get flowing). I turned my car around, went back and told them it was working. He was immediately defensive "OK well I did see it didn't work when you first tried it"... he went out and took and look and said "okay it works, it must have had something stuck or frozen" (this is exactly what I had said to him earlier). At this point, I was expecting to just get the sticker and drive off but was told no, I had to wait to be inspected again because someone else was being looked at now and it would be 20 minutes. I had JUST gotten an inspection 10 minutes prior but had to wait AGAIN?! At nearly 2pm I finally got my car with a valid sticker, and all I got from the staff was "sorry, have a good day". I am convinced they barely even tried it before deciding it was rejected, and after wasting more than my entire break and making me late for work, all I got in return was a "have a nice day". Over an hour worth of waiting, arguing with staff, and being late to work all over windshield wiper fluid that they must not have even spent 30 seconds checking themselves. read more

Swapped out my snow tires for summer tires including mounting of the tires. They noticed a two ties at the wear bar and called me up and ordered two new ones and all done in one day. I will return to Arborway again. The last place I went to stripped 10 lug nuts and I had to wait a few days. read more

I'm not sure why this place has so many 5-star reviews, but maybe their popularity has made them too busy to go the extra mile for new customers (you have to schedule oil changes a few days in advance, which I don't like).... I brought my older car in for some shaking and the check engine light... the bill was over $700, and after two days the problems returned. I was told to bring my car back in, and was given an estimate of around $2000 to fix the problem... I feel like I was ripped off, and I think it would have been fair for them to offer me a $700 credit towards the $2000 worth of new work they were proposing. I declined the additional work and instead decided it was time to buy a new car. read more

Before I "yelped" I went to this place to get my car inspected. They did a brilliant job of givin' it the old in-out.. cough... in terms of time. They even took my credit card when it was supposed to be done with a different form for whatever reason? I have no idea. Anyway, I recently revisited them after getting towed from 93-S. After reading reviews, I wanted to go to West Cork, but he was booked up for at least a week. I called up Arborway and they took my car in that day, hoping to get to it the next. They had it diagnosed before closing the same day and told me exactly what would need to be done. Greg (I think) is so goddamn friendly and genuine that I would recommend this place to anyone, even if it requires traveling. The customer service is down right sexy. They even stopped traffic so I could pull out onto Centre st. What service! My bill showed exactly what I was paying for (and this was explained to me on the phone), and I felt like they were completely honest with me. Finally! A place I might be able to go to when I need to. It's so hard to find a trustworthy mechanic who I don't think is just suggesting a bunch of work that you don't really need. I've had such bad experiences elsewhere, at dealerships and at smaller, independent shops that I was about to give up hope that a good place exists. But it exists here! After having a bunch of work advised to be done from a dealership that I was skeptical I really needed, I took it to Arborway. They're warm and kind, quick, they explain things well, and I never felt like they were just suggesting I get work done to turn a quick profit. In fact, so much of the work that was suggested to me by the dealership was unnecessary. Always get a second opinion! I really can't say enough good about this place so far. I'm definitely going to keep coming back. Didn't hurt that there was a rolly-polly English bulldog just hanging out to greet you - with an underbite! A face only a mother could love but really so cute and sweet! The only reason this isn't a 5 is that the waiting room is really nil. It's nice if you don't feel like walking to a cafe or taking the bus home (if you don't live within walking distance, like me) to be able to hang out, read a book, use your laptop, but sadly, this place just has two chairs in the office and that's it. But it's not a deal breaker for me, clearly! Just nit picking. read more

Great place. Seriously. I took my car here a few months ago because the turn signals were broken. They figured out the problem, got the part in, and fixed the vehicle in short order. When it turned out that a wire got crossed when they had to take apart and put my steering wheel back together, which caused my car to think the key was constantly in the ignition...they not only had me bring the car in after closing time to take a look at it, they fixed it first thing the next morning in short order and were really apologetic about it, though it could have happened to anyone. I always felt they were being honest and fair, and the place is always packed, which is a good sign. read more

Car-savers. These guys are the real deal, and clearly they don't need my little review to affirm that (their service speaks for itself). We have brought several cars to them, and whatever the issue they have dealt with it (and we've had a number of issues). Something I wish I had known: if your car has some random issues after-hours, and you need it to be towed, Arborway has a spot up front that your car can be towed to. Very convenient. I love these guys so far! I needed anew battery and west cork couldn't get me in for a week so I came here after reading the reviews. They got me right in, did it while I waited, and even reattached my busted off drivers side mirror for free. I hadn't even asked them to look at that since I'd already been told by another shop it would have to be replaced to the tune of $250. Yay arborway! Also the front desk dude has got to be the nicest most patient guy ever. The phone never stopped while I was in there and yet he kept a smile on his face, called all the old ladies by name, and then stopped traffic (rush hour) on centre for me so I wouldn't have to turn around. Such a love. update: when my mirror inevitably got knocked off again, they installed the one I bought online even though they don't normally do that, and when I came in they called me by my first name. definitely will be back. Got the recommendation for Arborway Auto from several friends, so I decided to try it despite living all the way in Medford. I loved the fact that it was right by the T (5 minute walk from Forest Hills) so I didn't need to figure out a ride to get me to pick up my car. I called to make an appointment and they said I could bring it in the next morning. I'm not one for auto shops. I know nothing about cars and most auto shops are not the most friendliest or comfortable place to walk into. But as soon as I walked into the office, I was greeted by Greg, who was very friendly and didn't make me feel like an idiot as I described the issues with my car. He said he would call me with updates once they took a look at it and I got that call 2 hours after, which was fast! One of the issues that I had was my tires were acting up with the tire check light on. I would fill it with air and then the light would go away and then 2 days later it would come back. I repeated the process 2 more times before finally taking it to jiffy lube a couple months back and asking them to look at my tires during an oil change. They said it looks fine and just needed air. Yet the light still came back on a few days later. Here at Arborway, they found out that it was actually a nail in my tire that I had been driving around with for about 10 months!! It might seem like a tiny thing, but it was nice to finally have that issue solved. I also had my brakes and rotors replaced, belts changed, and an oil change. Greg was very nice in giving me a complimentary free oil change since I was getting other work done and it was my first time at the shop. Couldn't pick up my car in time before they closed at 5 so they let me come in the next morning to pick up my car and Greg greeted me by name when I walked in, which was really appreciated. DEFINITELY coming back here next time for an oil change and car repairs. They are friendly, honest, and quick with their quality work! Greg is super helpful, and when he called me to tell me what was wrong with the horrible noises coming from my car right before a road trip, he was straight with me. "Your car sounds terrible, but it's drivable and nothing is mechanically wrong. You'll need it fixed eventually. I can fix it now, or I can fix it later. Whatever you want." They've captured my business from the bigger places around JO/Brookline by providing me superb advice and not making work when it wasn't necessary. Boy am I glad it's only ever us reviewing business and not businesses reviewing us. Because Arborway Auto is good. And I am bad. Five stars for this repair shop. One star for me. Here's what happened... I had originally posted a bad review of this place. The details don't matter anymore. But it basically just comes down to me thinking I know more about cars than career mechanics because I know how to do a Google search and I saw some stuff on the internet that validated my desire not to spend more money on my car. Fast forward a few months... I recently was told by the dealership that three of the TPMS sensors on my wheels were broken. A few months back I had Arborway Auto fix the front-left TPMS sensor so I was a little ticked off that now the front-left TPMS sensor was one of the ones that was broken. I then thought to go look up to see that bad review I had posted. But I couldn't find it. I figured that I must have only had my dick-ish thoughts but gave up on them before actually posting them in a review. So, thank God I never posted that review, I think. Now I can go back down there and try and get them to re-do this repair for me for free! So I called up Arborway Auto, brought my car in, they were super nice and professional, and got everything fixed quickly and just as they said they would. Greg then goes to hand off my car to me and says "Hey can I ask you a question? Would you mind taking down the review you posted on Google?" Ahhhhh!!! I DID post that review! But it was on Google and not here! AHHHHHHHHHH! This whole time he knew I was human scum but he was super nice to me and fixed my car and didn't try to pressure me into doing other stuff and shook my hand and gave me a smile and then asked me to take down the bad review in like the classiest way ever!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Look at my life! Look at my choices!!!! Plus... even the fact that I was mad at them for not fixing the front left tire properly originally was so stupid of me. I'd since had my tires rotated! So now my front left tire was my back left tire. Which just so happened to be the one tire of the four that wasn't broken. Guh! So kudos to him for keeping track of bad reviews and caring about how his customers feel. And especially kudos to him for treating me fairly like any other customer even though he knew I was a tool and *I* didn't even know I was a tool. Even though I'm very embarrassed by all this, I'm so glad it all happened so I could come back and correct this review and try to make everything right in the end. As for myself, I have a new commitment to being a better person. A commitment that I'm positive I'll completely forget about in a week. Sigh. read more

Oh my gosh, do you have any idea how nice it is to find a mechanic I can trust? I'm new in town, I don't speak fluent car... and I found these guys. They've taken in my car twice with little notice, fixed it for a WILDLY reasonable price, and just are so wonderful. Seriously, it takes the sweat away from dealing with car stuff. I had tire issues and they not only took care of it, but they saved me money twice by being fair. I thought I needed 4 new tires and would have bought them, they said two were fine - the rear could stay another year problem free. Then later on my rear tires sounded funny...I'm thinking they're broken....nope, just a slow leak and a need for some little connecty-thing to keep stuff from jiggling. Cheap to fix and easy. I want to complement Mike and Greg at Arborway. My Subaru Impreza had been making a lot of noise that sounded like it was coming from the bottom of the car. Originally, I suspected it might be an exhaust leak, since my boyfriend had related a similar story about his Volkswagen. Mike and Greg took a look at it and discovered that it was not my exhaust, but rather my transmission had a bad bearing and needed to be replaced (the entire transmission - not just the bearing). Noting that I appeared to be within the warranty mileage on the power train, they called me and advised me to have it towed to a dealer for warranty service. Let me make explicit what happened here: They turned down a very expensive job, to save me the cost. My experience at the dealer (Patriot Subaru of North Attleboro) was less than satisfactory, as you can read in my review of them [link]. Unlike VJ Donnelly and Ben Potter at Patriot Subaru, Mike and Greg understand customer service. They were willing to sacrifice a bit in the short term, knowing that I'll be a customer for a long time to come, and also knowing that in the age of social media, word gets around quick. These guys are honest, do great work and are absolute lifesavers!!!!!!! Long story short I blew a tire right in front of their doors. When they opened I called to ask/beg for help. I was told no problem so I left my keys then went off to work. Throughout the day I worried about how much the tire was going to cost given that I was in town, parts for my car tend to be a bit expensive and I didn't know anything about the repair shop. I was envisioning horror stories where this was going to cost me an arm, a leg and a kidney. When I got the call saying my care was all set I braced myself for the price when I hear $130. I was flabbergasted!!!! I cannot say enough good things about them. If I had to blow a tire I'm glad I landed in front of their doors. read more
