You'll see historic markers throughout the area. Today, it's a charming southern town with a downtown, upscale shops and restaurants. The downtown area has historic Paces House for events, Old Vinings Inn, fire station, library and Orient Express (railcar resto) and Vinings Jubilee shopping center. Farther out, there's Canoe and Crispena restaurants that I enjoy. Traffic can be rough on week days as the main road is a 2 lane Paces Ferry (get it?) and there's a CSX rail crossing. Or when I'm driving to the Poncey-Highlands for drinks. So basically, I still you see everyday. I appreciate the effort, Hill Street Beauty Spot if not the lack of creativity in naming you. Well, I guess they were really kind of limited in choices. "Hill Street." Ok, that makes sense. "Beauty Spot." Well, that's about the outer edge of superlatives that end of Hill Street can bear. I doubt many would accept "Hill Street's Location of Stupendous Pulchritude" nor would they swallow "Hill Street's Median of the Becoming" though, knowing how streetwalkers used to lounge in this area, if someone would be coming here, undoubtedly much swallowing would follow. So we're stuck with the Hill Street Beauty Spot, an area of median on Hill Street gussied up with plants and flowers and other assorted landscaping tricks. Oh and a huge wooden sign that declares in no uncertain terms "Hill Street Beauty Spot." Well okay then. In fact, since the city demolished the last of the projects nearby on Memorial, they've terraformed the remaining parcels into a land of rocks and mulch. Not much in the way of a park, but it beats the Squatters Sheraton/Hobo Hotel that was there. So, Hill Street Beauty Spot, you get an A for Effort and a C for Execution. Let's just average that out to 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

It's that place where the homeless stand and talk and that guy on the hoveround likes to "drive" out in front of me as I'm coming home from work. Then on the opposing corner is another gaggle of homeless sitting on the stone by the church. I'm not exactly sure why they mulched it all up, but it looks pretty great when driving down Memorial. Much better than it used to look, that's for sure. And you'd get a 5th star if that damn hoveround weren't always gunning for my car.

My buddies and I were in town for a weekend getaway to watch our home football team the Lousiville Cardinals play a football game. Our local university had a pregame party at a place called the tabernacle and while we parked to walk to this event we came across this art piece. Decent sized piece. I'm not sure Atalanta connection with vine city movers being an out of Townes but it's always cool to see public art throughout different cities.

This years Great Atlanta Beerfest at Turner Field was simply marvelous! I like to attend events…read moreearly for several reasons: good parking, time to network and of course first dibs on food. Unfortunately this is the last Beerfest to be held at Turner Field as the Atlanta Braves have a new home. With that being said they decided to celebrate this festival unlike any previous ones. This year we would party hard on the field! Wow. I have never actually been on the field before. The view was breathtaking. I received a blue commemorative cup and a listing of over 150+ breweries alongside with their location on the field. The big screen had college football on so everyone was at ease. The entire field was jam packed wall to wall. I cannot recall when I last saw so many people on the field. So many people but I had nothing but time. There was no possible way I was going to sample all 150+ beers and wines. Nor was I going to try. A few did catch my eye and I was most delighted. ABK had a beer/lemonade combination in which they called Rose. I was intrigued by the concept and decided to sample it. It was a light beer that was not overly sweet. I enjoyed it so much. It did have a rose-like flavor but did not have an overbearing taste. I savored every drop.  My next pick was a fruit ale by Jekyll Brewing titled Strawberry Bomb. And it was bursting with flavor. It was a light ale that encompassed a strawberry punch. This was a drink that made me appreciate them as an ale. Loved it!   The last but not least pick came from Monday Night and was named Drafty Cinnamon. This cinnamon scotch ale was a candy lover's dream. The taste was reminiscent of a cinnamon schnapps but very mellow. This one took the cake and stuck with me the rest of my time there. The food was sensational! Some of the food vendors included The Fry Guy, Tom & Chee and my new fave Roti Rolls. I got a veggie rice bowl that was a beautiful melody in my mouth. So much flavor! I love when eateries use fresh ingredients. It really does make a difference.    The Geeks entertained us with cover classics. I heard them cover Green Day, Cee Lo, Beastie Boys and countless others. Their energy was electric and they gave a stellar performance throughout the event. This years event was an astronomical success. There was literally something for everyone. If you weren't a big drinker but wanted to try drinks out of your comfort zone, you could. And if you were a seasoned drinker, you knew exactly what questions to ask. Despite all the negativity in the world, every person that I saw at Turner Field was having a great day.

I have attended events from this specific organizer in the past and they were all pretty decent…read more The last one was in Old Fourth Ward and was a lot of fun. This year..... was A MESS!!! I don't know what went wrong. Did they sell too many tickets? Did they not staff well enough? Who knows. The festival started at 1pm. Our group arrived around 1:20pm. We had to go to Will Call first to pick up tickets and were then directed to the line. Let's just say we had to walk 10 minutes to get just to the end of the line. So, our official wait started around 1:45pm. We finally entered the stadium at 3:55pm. That was a 2 HOUR 10 MINUTE wait. If I hadn't already paid $40 (plus the ridiculous $8+ for Ticketmaster), I was in it for nearly $50. Otherwise, I would have left after waiting and not moving for 30 minutes in the sun without anything to drink.... or a bathroom. When we finally made it inside, everyone was already irritated. Plus, then you stand in line AGAIN to get beers. To top it off, most of the beer was sub-par. it's a sad day, when the best beer served is Fat Tire, which I could've bought at any grocery store and then sat somewhere comfortable to drink. By the time I left, I had a total of 4 tastes of beer. $12.50 per taste. I will never attend another of their events again, sorry!
