Little Five Points was a regular destination back in the 90s when visiting Atlanta. Favorite places to frequent were LFP, the High Museum of Art, and the Lowe Gallery. LFP is eclectic, hippy-ish, and back then had a Rocky's pizza location that we loved! I liked perusing the independent bookstores and vintage clothing shops especially Junkman's Daughter. It reminds me of a more walkable [and more quirky] Highland Park in Birmingham, AL. Give LFP a visit and engage your inner hippie! read more

Had coffee there at noon, some appetizer and beers all around the little bars, and even found my birthday/concert outfit at the thrift stores there. I have very mixed feelings. I liked coming here in my twenties but I don't like this area at all now. Bohemian and counter culture. Reminds me of Portland OR. I felt safe when I came here two decades ago but I always came during the day with a friend or two. I bought a vintage hat from one of the vintage clothing stores here in March 2006 for a "Hat or Wig" party around St. Patrick's Day. My girlfriend was dating a physician, and she organized the party at his house not far from here on Monroe. It was a black velvet vintage hat, so I think that I wore it to a Halloween party that same year. read more

We stayed in Little 5 Points over the long New Year's weekend. Had a great time exploring the area. Wonderful diverse community. Lots of unique specialty shops....more reviews for those later. Great food options! We spent the evening before New Years Eve there and all of New Years Eve there getting ready for an event at the Variety Playhouse. Lots to see and do. It is an expensive area of Atlanta.....4 stars, but I understand these local small business owners have to make a living. Really cool spot. We will be returning. read more

L5P has been my neighbor for sixteen years and has changed quite a bit in that time. It had changed even more before then, apparently. The latest version is a vibrant, still-funky shopping and eating destination that remains somewhat threatening to those who come from nicer, more suburban settings. If it's your thing, there's plenty to do here. People watching is pretty fabulous. Cool shops like Junkman's Daughter and Crystal Blue. Taverns - plenty of taverns. Lots of food choices from the more mainstream Front Page News to the city-best Wrecking Bar brewpub, to the iconic Elmyr and Vortex, and on and on. The Variety Playhouse. The best pharmacy in the city (I'm biased). Lots of stuff. Try it on for size. read more

It was so amazing 20 years ago. It was like a second home. It was more of an eclectic and bohemian village full of artists, Afro-Carribean hippies and goth kids. It is now much pricier and all hipster. There were always homeless vagrants in L5P, but now their vibe is more aggressive and overwhelming. I almost got mugged there by 2 useless vagrants. The charm of the very quirky shops, pubs, and restaurants has changed quite a bit over the last 10+ years. My fav haunts were Elmyr, Vortex, a cool Balinese shop with hand carved furniture, and an eclectic market that sold everything from Shea butter to amazing veggie burgers. I'll still go, but it just isn't as awesome as it was from the late 90's thru the early 2005-ish. read more

Went on a Tuesday in the afternoon. Very little was open. Do you like crystals? Funky vintage clothes? Old records? Smoking pot? Health food store whose prices being higher than Whole Foods is nominally made better by the fact that your money isn't going to Jeff Bezos? Then you might find something you like here - but It's only about 2 blocks long. If you're an out of town tourist and like me come from a major metropolitan area, then I would say skip it unless you truly have nothing better to do. If you like the hipster vibe then this is the area is for you. The shops here are unique, colorful, and fun. Food: Vortex is here along with Little Five Points Pizza. Both are really delish. Shops: There's a cool records place that's fun to browse. Psycho Sisters is a nice little boutique/consignment shop. These aren't usually my scene, but the price ranged from $3 to $18 on average. You can deal on prices on some things as I overhead a convo while in the dressing room, well, booth I should say. There were hooka shops and even a Native American shop. In A Nutshell: -Little 5 Points is the so-called "Haight-Ashbury" of Atlanta and I wouldn't compare it to SF bc it's still developing. -It's definitely not as crowded either. -You can find a few indie shops and bars, but not many. Overall, I'd put it on the level of another hipster town - Portland. Cool to chug some IPAs but still growing to be worthy of a better review. read more

Little 5 is fun. It's the grungy and strange, with a little hipster mixed in. Place to find odd shops, record stores, comics, some fun nightlife, tattoo parlors, and a bit of Atlanta culture. I feel like it's also a bit of a tourist draw. Before I ever moved to Atlanta everyone also said "go check out little 5!" In October they have the Little 5 Halloween Parade which showcases a lot of the eccentricity that is L5P. If you're feeling burgers, you can find another Vortex here, along with a Junkman's daughters for collectors of odd or weird trinkets. Along the strip there is plenty of shopping to be had and restaurants. It's a small area though and easily walk-able. A lot of homeless all seem to congregate here at points, but for the most part not a terrible area to explore on foot. Parking has never been terribly great, but you can find a bit of street parking on back roads. read more

I have to say when I first moved to ATL little five was my lost island of mystery and adventure andddd it still is! Each time I go I discover a little something new and interesting. You can visit just simply for the street art, to find new eats or even to do a little unique shopping. The parking is usually free flowing, but can get a bit tricky on an event or weekend day. Raised a bus ride away from New York's Greenwich Village, and having lived in the heart of Cleveland's Coventry Village-- both "in the day"-- I've always enjoyed the gritty, funky, colorful and consistently surprising vibe of America's "bohemian" meccas. While most are now gentrified and sanitized, our San Francisco vacation a few years ago was highlighted by a pilgrimage to Haigh-Ashbury. Still true to its 1967 to 1980 roots, Atlanta's Little Five Points isn't quite the Haigh, but comes closer than most. There are cool low-keyed eateries, shops and bars in every direction, moderate disrepair and makeshift patches, and an enjoyable human-scale streetscape. People from all walks of life congregate on the narrow sidewalks and venues, each drinking in a (somewhat) undisturbed experience of life in a much simpler time. Sure, there are panhandlers and hustlers, homeless and drunks; each an unfortunate reminder that even a simpler time was hardly carefree. "Keeping it real" is, after all, a subjective perspective-- one which doesn't appeal to everyone. Yet, whether old school "bohemian," more contemporary "hipster," or somewhere in-between, there seems to be an edgy yet sufficiently rich urban fabric in LFP to attract an interest from most. Our favorite streetscape was unquestionably the sharing of a building by an Atlanta Police substation and a medical marijuana shop. Definitely one of the more memorable stops in a vacation which had no shortage of interesting and worthwhile destinations. It was a bit of a hike from the Inman Park MARTA station, and there may be closer stops, but a pleasant walk on a hot, but beautiful day. read more

The first time I ever visited Atlanta was on a road trip with a friend from Los Angeles to Florida. We stopped in Atlanta on a whim instead of heading straight to Florida and ended up in Little 5 Points. After days of seeing just road and missing the city and lights we were so happy to find the little gem that is Little 5 Points it was the closest thing to home that we'd seen in days! It reminds me so much of my hometown Venice, CA. Tattoo & piercing shops, crystal/spiritual shops, thrift/vintage shops, pizza, natural market, even down to an American Apparel and no free parking -just like home. A year later I was living about 5 minutes away with that same friend from the trip, so you could say we really enjoyed it! read more

Not a review of any one business or spot in L5P but this is a must see place for locals (even you folks up there in Alpharetta who love to sight see in town) and out of towners. If you can make it in October for the Halloween parade, you're in for a treat (see what I did there?). This place has something for everyone - power drinkers, craft beer snobs, homeless folks, transient homeless folks, artists, tattoo seekers, those in the market for three bottles of wine for $9.99. Running low on gas and marijuana paraphernalia? One stop shopping awaits you urban warrior! Parking is en quantité limitée so bring your Schwinn or your fixie or just don your flip flops and walking stick. This is a great place to get hit by a texting motorist too so if that's your thing, you are in luck! Just get a few stiff drinks in you first so that giant SUV feels like a big fluffy pillow lulling you into a deep sleep. When I was in high school in the late 1980's and college in the early 1990's, I could think of no cooler place to hang out than Little Five. It was gritty, it was full of hippies, it was most definitely edgy and possibly borderline sketchy. Nowadays the hipsters may be giving the hippies a run for their money but L5P remains a super fun place to spend your time. And all these years later, it looks like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Just drove thru Little Five recently, after not being in the area for ages. It looks more than a little different than I remember it being in the 90s. Of course, with virtually every place in the world loosing its edge and becoming more corporate, I reckon this funky slice of ATL retains a considerable amount of charm. I hear from locals it's still one of the better areas for going out. I also hear that it's a helluvalot more expensive to live there than I could have ever imagined. I was glad to see the Star Bar was still there but sad to see Rocky's Pizza ain't no more (although there's another pizza joint in the same location). Is Bridgetown Grill still there? My favorite little eccentric pocket of Atlanta. If you never been here its a fun hipster neighborhood with plenty of great restaurants and cool shops. I dig little 5. It's got plenty of charm, both in the storefronts and those who visit it. You'll find innumerable bums nestled between buskers and hippies, and bearded hipster folk and tatted up 20-somethings weaving through the record stores, tattoo shops, and clothing stores. Homeless people and transient folks will ask you for money, but they won't chase you down the street like they might do in downtown Atlanta or, hell, even SF. It's a great place for "the counterculture" to hang out, but they aren't really weird like they once were. "Weird" has been cool for some time now. It's a very chill neighborhood that caters to the free spirit. You'll find decent grub like the Vortex and the Porter, and of course a smattering of gastropubs and bars. You can buy records from Criminal (better for new records) or Wax 'n Fax (better for old records) here. Criminal also has a good selection of comics and graphic novels, and they often have bands come and do intimate performances in their space. Some overpriced and interesting thrift store-eque finds can generally be found at Junkman's and Clothing Warehouse. Plays, musicals, comedy acts, and musical artists can be found at Dad's Garage, Horizon. And 7Stages, making this place a fun and easily walkable area to hang out after a date or chilling with friends. Even though parking is charged at the Vortex, if you know where to park, you can easily find free side street parking. Basically, there are a bunch of neat local businesses down here, so if you like eating, books, records, comics, or thrift stores, there's something for you down here. read more

This is a hipster paradise, if there ever was one. I traveled to Atlanta from NH and read about this place on Yelp, then researched more on Google. There are tons of cool, vintage secondhand shops, tattoos parlors and restaurants to visit. Word to the wise: Do not come here with kids or research the restaurants before you go! Most of the places are 18 or 21+ due to smoking being allowed indoors and we had an 11 month old with us. We had a hell of a time finding a nonsmoking place and opted for outdoor seating. You also have to pay to park but luckily you can walk to everything. Being that I'm not familiar with Atlanta at all, there is also quite a few homeless people lurking around and intimidating passer bys especially near the "park" between Moreland Ave and Euclid Ave NE. At least six people came up to us and asked us for money, cigarettes, food, etc. It was just obnoxious. At one point, two people were screaming at each other and we were worried they would be physically fighting any minute. Where I am from, if there was that many people, there would be at least one or two police officers patrolling the area but we didn't see even one. Despite that, there are some very cool people that play music and even sell artwork and paintings on the street. read more

I wen to L5P with my girlfriend. We had a blast. There are shops full of neat trendy, out of the ordinary, and just plain cool stuff. They have a few smoking shops, a shop that sells authentic Native American jewelry. For those who enjoy the more urban scene they have a few shops for you too. I encourage anyone who is visiting or living in Atlanta and it's surrounding areas to visit. It's easily accessible by arts. You don't even have to wade gas! read more
