Muffuletta sandwich
Michelle Q.

Hidden gem deli! Worth a detour! Muffuletta sandwich was best I've had. Great stop for picnic or hiking meat & cheese. They packed up a half pint of sauerkraut for me. Grateful for how well they packed all items. Was able to make 4 small sandwiches and backpack with items. No spills and bread delicious in first sandwich to last. Staff was patient and answered all questions on aging, etc at counter.

Bavarian brat, sauerkraut, hot Bavarian mustard, garlic pickle.

While on vacation in Bristol my wife encouraged me to drive 90 minutes for fermented sauerkraut to help with gut health. I'm 42 and am not sure if this is my midlife crisis but away I went. Started off the drive exchanging middle fingers with a senior citizen. While I was in the wrong for speeding I won the exchange because man was old Gertrude fuming mad and pumping her hands angrily. I giggled like a child on and off for the next 30 minutes. Store is like your upscale fancy deli but focused on German and European foods. Sauerkraut was a 10. Never had anything like this. More subtle then I am used to. Not overpowering sour trash like most commercially made krouts. It's a superfood and great for guy health. Pickles were not fermented but excellent. The surprise of the day was the Bavarian bratwursts. Now all sausage is ruined for me. I found myself fearing these would be like any old brat. Holy schnitzel was I wrong. Ton of flavor and seasoning. A world of flavors, much different then the one dimensional Italian sausage(which is awesome but a totally different. Animal). i would not recommend these for the average person or supply for a 9 year olds birthday party. I wouldn't even eat these on a roll. Fork and knife and enjoy the ride. Absolutely blown away. I feel American arrogance for assuming my butcher could keep up with a region that has been making sausage for 1000 years. Foolish really. Got some beers and liver sausage. Next time I'll try the head cheese. Staff was super nice and helpful.

This review is based solely on their products that I have purchased at offsite locations. That being said, my wife and I are OBSESSED with their sauerkraut and pickled beet slaw. The ingredients are so fresh and expertly prepared that I beg you to try them even if you are unsure. This is a completely different product from a canned, store purchased product. You will not be disappointed!

This place is a must every time I come home. It's a small European market with an incredible deli and they have a restaurant that serves what they sell. I always get the scnitzel Holstein. Make sure to ask for a runny egg, if that's what you like. There is an incredible assortment of mustards for you to use, especially if you are ordering one of the many sausages they have. Most of the food is German style, however they have a traditional bean supper (very Maine) available also. I also love the pickles that you get to eat while waiting for your food to come. No carb free app instead of bread? Yes!!! There are some dessert dishes but I never get them. I'd rather go out and sample cheese! You pay at the front counter, when you check out all your purchases. You can add tip there. Everyone loves working there and is very helpful. It's such a treat to walk around. Get there early, I've had to wait 45 minutes before.

Yes yes yes everything about this place is a yes. From the amazing European market to the free pickles you get as soon as you sit down to the delicious menu options to enough free samples to satisfy your hunger. Everything on the menu is good so go with what blows your hair back. I will say the reubens are HUGE so splitting with a friend/SO/stranger is a totally viable option. The best part of this whole place though in my opinion- besides the copious amounts of mustard- was the espresso soda. What is espresso soda you ask? It's soda made from coffee, has about 37 grams of sugar in it and is straight up liquid gold. This stuff is LIT. I went from a post-hike lull to wide awake and ready to roll. I wish I'd had this stuff in college when I was writing my thesis. This place is cozy, awesome, delicious, and the pwrfect spot to come do some Christmas shopping- you'll be sure to win the "best stocking stuffer" award if you fill up at Morses.

I have never been here, but my husband had years ago and he highly recommended it. We were driving to Camden and decided to stop on the way home. It's a turn off of Route One, then a seven mile ride into a very rural area. Then there it was, an European deli/store/restaurant tucked away in Maine farmland over an hour away from Portland. I didn't know what to expect when we walked inside. Magic! My husband said my face lit up and I was overwhelmed by all of the goodies everywhere! We put our names on the wait-list for the cozy five table dining area. The other two couples in line were really nice and had been coming back for years. The nearly forty minute wait flew by between the conversation and checking out the curious wonders on all of the shelves and in the deli. Our server, Sloane, was very sweet and she brought us our steaming hot Reubens to our table very shortly after we ordered. I grew up in NYC so am well versed in what makes a European deli legit, and this is the real deal and not "inspired by" nonsense. The dining area is industrial chic without trying to be; it's just unpretentious and honest. Also, you can taste love in the food as if your long lost German grandma made it for you. The only thing that would make this beyond five stars is if they offered gluten-free bread. They do have gluten-free french cakes in the store. We both loved everything so much that we will come back again. It's well worth the trip! Just factor in that the wait time may be lengthy.

First time at a table as we beat the rush on a rainy day.

We were very sad to discover that the restaurant is currently closed. We are hopeful that they will return in the future.

The canned fish wall at Morse's Kraut Haus store. No, they don't call it that - but I do. What else would you call a wall stocke

Even though I didn't try the restaurant, I'm giving this amazing spot five stars for the variety and quality of product. You want some German tastiness? GO HERE. I don't eat sauerkraut often, but they make their own here (have for years) and supposedly it's crazy good. I could die and not pass GO for the chocolate and candy selection alone - pretty much any German/Swiss/Belgian style chocolate found on earth is represented. Crazy good assortment of various gummy candy and licorice as well. The smoked meats, cheeses and sausages are as you would expect - plentiful! I simply can't say enough about this destination. 'Cause that's what it is!

My favorite place in the greater midcoast area to get cheese, charcuterie and European products. You won't be able to find anything like it nearby!

Stopped in for pickle and kraut fix. Left with a ring of kielbasa too! Quality and great prices. What more could you ask for?

They also have prepared food, but I haven't tried anything but their pizza. Their pizza is EXCELLENT. Like many places, it's worth asking for extra cheese or any of your favorite toppings. Peevey's used to have the best "gas station pizza" within 20 miles, but they went out of business. Try Tobey's pizza, you will be pleasantly surprised. * Bonus: John's Ice Cream in Liberty is likely the best you have ever tasted.

That being said, Tobey's pizza is slightly better than I expected. The sauce is cheap, the cheese is cheap, but they managed to get a nice browning on the cheese. There's a decent spice blend on top and a good salty, garlicky taste to it. The base is pleasantly fluffy. No, the pizza isn't perfect, it's not even that great compared to most of the pizza I eat, but I'm giving Tobey's a decent star rating because they have decent prices, a friendly staff, and a good selection. If I was looking solely at the pizza, it might be closer to a 2-star. But again, that's not their main dish, so I don't think that should drag down the overall rating.
