I brought her to the emergency room at this hospital because she had a HOLE in her toe and could not feel it! She had an odor of rotting flesh about her (sorry to be graphic) so I knew this was quite serious. I could see the bone of her toe and noticed several small, white particles around the hole - which turned out to be bone fragments. A young - doctor? - briefly came in to examine my friend, sent a prescription off to the pharmacy and sent her on her way home. The young lady said this infection had not reached the bone, so she could go on home and follow up with her foot doctor. 2 days later, I went with my friend to her foot doctor who immediately told me to take her to St Pete's in Olympia and that there was NO WAY her toe could NOT have been infected to the bone at the time we had gone to the hospital because it could not have progressed so severely in the 2 days between the hospital visit and seeing him. St Pete's immediately hospitalized my friend and had to amputate her big toe. Centralia ought to be sued for such poor health service! But that is up to my friend. I have informed her I am willing to be a witness, should she decide to move forward. The second incident involves my husband who had a stroke, which brought us to the hospital. My preference would have been to go directly to St Pete's, but as I myself had recently had 2 back surgeries, I was unable to drive. Not realizing what my husband was experiencing was a stroke, he drove the two of us to the hospital himself! Thankfully, we weren't far from the hospital and God was watching out for us! But... ok, at the hospital... the young man who was typing up my husband's symptoms and conveying them to the nurse could NOT get anything right. He would tell the nurse three symptoms my husband was experiencing had stopped... when we had said nothing of the sort. He couldn't tell the nurse the correct blood pressure reading, he said my husband lost vision in his left eye, but it had since returned - which was inaccurate!, he told the nurse my husband was not experiencing any numbness - when his whole left arm was numb.....I mean, what? Was it this guy's first day?? And we were supposed to trust he typed in the correct information??? It was truly a mess that we constantly had to interrupt and correct! Thankfully, the nurse put in a transfer to St Pete's; otherwise I would have asked for that myself. Please be cautious and go straight to St Peter's. It is not worth the risk to go to Centralia hospital. Very lousy, disappointing treatment from a place you would hope you could trust in a crisis.

Out on my daily 3 mile run at a new location I decided to finish the last 1/2 mile in a "sprint"…read more About a quarter mile later I tripped on a patch of exposed large tree roots and fell forward onto several random protruding roots. I spent a week in patient while they ran comprehensive batteries of X-Rays, CT's, and various MRI's. They imaged every affected body part in every image spectrum possible. I was very impressed by the professionalism and compassion of every single staff person I interacted with. Being in my late 60's and very independent I was not accustomed to this level of care. From the talented physicians, to the nurses, and all the other staff, I was always comforted they had my best interest in mind, even if I did not always agree with them. Once all testing was done and they could make a detailed report, I was released with much better news than expected. I was able to immediately download every test from their patient portal. This is especially helpful for my provider at the VA to review, so we can now discuss a plan moving forward. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality fresh meals, which were brought to the room still very warm. The best review I can give is to declare that I will always go to Providence in any future emergency issues. Hopefully I'll never be back, but if I do return, I know that I'll be in good hands. I highly recommend this hospital.

Severe communication breakdown and lack of empathy for a critical care family…read more ​Our family's experience with Providence St. Peter Hospital has been deeply distressing during an already terrifying time. My 83-year-old grandmother was recently T-boned in a severe car accident, suffering eight broken bones, and was only just moved out of critical care. ​She managed to call me from her room, but the phone was disconnected. When I immediately called back to reconnect with her, I faced an absolute wall of bureaucratic incompetence and zero empathy. First, the staff claimed they had no idea who I was talking about. Once they finally recognized her name, they flatly refused to transfer me to her room or provide any explanation as to why. ​To prevent a family member from speaking to an elderly, severely injured patient who just initiated contact is completely unacceptable. The extreme lack of coordination between units and the rigid, unhelpful attitude of the staff turned a medical crisis into an agonizing, aggravating ordeal. St. Peter's leadership seriously needs to address how their staff handles communication with worried families. Frontline staff need training on basic empathy and how to properly locate transferred patients instead of just shutting families out.

He gets home and collapses because his defibrillator went off twice and hit the closet and hurt his hands they go back to St. John's after being there from 1:00 PM to midnight they then put him in ICU which they might be taking care of the problem after being an ICU however, if you ask a question as to why it wasn't addressed the earlier before and them,nurses and supervisors think like it's no big issue if you address time of his last visit he was in ICU and asked for them to move that person around so they don't get bed sores obviously it wasn't enough to express your concern now they tell me I can't address it. It's none of my business even though it's a family member furthermore, the nurse in the ER was so rude To the wife and if you ask that question, they don't want to address it you ask for admin person to talk to them to get answers instead if you take a name, if you take a name they bring the security and a supervisor, instead of a admin person...I did mention you all gonna get yourselves fired, which is not a threat they bring up security to escort you out and you still haven't got to talk too a admin person to answer you questions...private hospital is not a trauma they don't have the capability of resolving the issueThey are rude and they don't care they bring their security that you're out of control and making threats which never happened. I never imagined that after nearly 20 years of dedicating my life to PeaceHealth, I would become…read moreone of the patients whose story I now read about online. I worked for PeaceHealth for nearly two decades, first as a CNA and then as a Registered Nurse. I loved being an emergency department trauma nurse, but in August 2023, while I was still employed by PeaceHealth, I transferred out of the Emergency Department to another department after repeatedly raising concerns about patient safety and violations of our union contract. After speaking up, I experienced what I believed was ongoing harassment and retaliation. Other staff members also reported concerns to management on my behalf, but nothing changed. On February 13, 2024, while I was still employed by PeaceHealth in a different department, I became a patient at PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center after suffering a severe dog bite to my face. I trusted the organization I had served for nearly 20 years to care for me the same way I had cared for thousands of patients. Instead, I left feeling abandoned. I was discharged with instructions to follow up with a plastic surgeon instead of being transferred for specialty care. When I called the plastic surgeon listed on my discharge paperwork, I learned he no longer worked for PeaceHealth. I was left scrambling to find the care I needed while recovering from a traumatic facial injury. While I was home trying to heal, I later learned that a nurse allegedly used a personal cell phone to screenshot private photographs of my injuries from my personal Facebook account. Those photographs, which showed me as a patient, were reportedly sent to my former Emergency Department manager and then circulated internally through unencrypted company email. As both a nurse and a patient, I was devastated. Following my union's advice, I filed a privacy complaint. That decision changed my life. Rather than feeling protected as an employee and patient, I felt like I became the problem. My health information, my trauma, and my experience as a patient became intertwined with my employment. Eventually, I experienced what my attorney described as a constructive discharge. I lost the career I had devoted nearly 20 years to building. I lost my home. I lost my financial security. I was forced to leave Washington, uproot my life, and move away from my family just to continue working as a nurse. I also lost additional employment opportunities after these events. My union initially advised me through this process, but later withdrew my grievances after PeaceHealth requested mediation as part of a proposed global settlement. Following the union's recommendation, I hired a private employment attorney and paid hundreds of dollars per hour for representation. A demand letter was submitted, but PeaceHealth denied any wrongdoing. My attorney then withdrew from my case. Later, through records I obtained, I discovered emails showing communication between my attorney and PeaceHealth's legal department that left me questioning whether my interests had truly been protected. The stress has permanently affected my health. I developed central serous retinopathy, a rare eye condition that my treating physicians have associated with elevated stress. I continue receiving treatment in an effort to preserve my vision. I have also been diagnosed with anxiety and major depressive disorder and underwent Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy in an effort to recover. One of the most heartbreaking moments came when my union requested my employee file. After nearly 20 years of employment, I was provided what appeared to be little more than my résumé. My performance evaluations and employment records that I expected to find were not there. It felt as though my career had simply been erased. The greatest loss has not been financial--it has been personal. I lost my confidence, my sense of purpose, and the career I believed I would retire from. There were times when the emotional pain became overwhelming. That is why stories about healthcare workers struggling with trauma resonate so deeply with me. I know what it feels like when the very system you dedicated your life to leaves you feeling unheard and alone. I am sharing my experience because I believe patients deserve safe, compassionate care, and healthcare workers deserve dignity and respect when they become patients themselves. My hope is that no one else--patient or employee--has to endure what I have experienced.

I am 73 years old. I was first in line at Good Sam on Wednesday Jan 1, 2025…read more I had been ill at home since Dec 28, 2024. I realized on Dec 31st that I had pneumonia so made an appointment for urgent care on Jan 1st at 11 AM so I could get antibiotics to treat it. So hubby and I arrived at Urgent Care at 11 and he wheeled me in with a wheelchair. Receptionist took one look at me and I was promptly in the back. My oxygen level was 70. They put me on oxygen and called 911. I was transported by Medic One to Good Sam. During the ride they put in an IV, pushed steroids and various other drugs and gave me albuterol through a nebulizer. I arrived at Good Sam and was first in line because I had sepsis, pneumonia and respiratory failure. I was treated aggressively for two hours in the ER because I came "this close" to dying on Jan 1. That afternoon I got a room in the ICU and thankfully I did recover and came home the evening of Sunday Jan 5th. I am now on oxygen 24/7 but I am still alive. For me this is a year and a half that almost wasn't. I must add that during my 4 day stay I did encounter some problems. The doctor wanted a lung cat scan before I could be released. Saturday late morning I got a text message on my phone regarding my "outpatient" cat scan at 3 PM that afternoon. I called the lab and they said it had been set up as outpatient. I summoned the nurse and informed him of the appointment so that I could be escorted up there. I was in a "frail condition" and had a "fall risk" so I had to ring the nurse when I needed the bathroom. It took forever for a response to the call button. On my last morning I would press the call button, wait a few minutes and when they didn't arrive I would stand up beside the bed. The alarm would bring the nurse running. Saturday afternoon I was moved to a two patient room and we were polar opposites as to our habits and lifestyles. I was still receiving medications and vitals checks every two hours so sleeping was pretty much impossible. In addition I cannot be in the dark EVER because of childhood traumas (whole other story) while my roommate complained about the light and the noise all night long. At one point while the nurse was treating me I loudly told the complainer "I am trying to keep breathing over here". Throughout my stay I had food trays arrive with food items missing and not replaced. I was on steroids so I had to be on insulin because of blood sugar levels. A a result my diet was a diabetic diet which meant very restricted intake of many items. So when items were missing it was a big disappointment. The longer I was there the hangrier I got. But like I said, I did come home on Sunday Jan 5th 2025. But I almost didn't. The doctors at Good Sam hospital saved my life on January 1, 2025 and I will be forever grateful.

While waiting for a room he got 5 stickers attached to his chest and stomach and when we got into the room the staff never needed to use them. Then when the new nurses needed blood, one nurses proceeded to talk badly about how the nurses in Emergency always take the good veins and they never care. From the lack of communication between medical staff, a mislabeled sign at the door, there was the fact that they kept the door open and continued to have conversations right outside the patient's rooms while charging their cellphones against the wall. It was hard for a few patients to sleep with the conversations right outside their doors. What I did find out that was nice. Night shift was nicer, cafeteria staff were always smiling, and the public bathrooms were cleaned. What I wished was different: daily checks on the patients, clean patient robes, change pillow cases when people sweat through, more awareness on areas of pain and some patience and grace with treatment. Also maybe learn to close the doors better. Either way, this place need to change. I used to go to St. Joe's for my mom and they were all so diligent with her care. Here its like the bare minimum for their patients.
