Review for Harrer Pool parties only: Don't. We contacted the park district 1 month prior to intended party date to pay deposit to secure the party room. After scheduling and paying deposit for the pool party and confirming we have 1 hour set up and 1 hour post party to clean up, we tried to contact the Harrer pool coordinator for room specs, table number, size, chairs and equipment availability so we know what we needed to buy or not buy..table covers wall decor and such. Nothing. Emails and phone calls not returned. Was contacted 2 days prior to party by the new coordinator only to be asked about the cake. Coordinator told my daughter, the birthday celebrant's mom, we had to be out of the room exactly at noon. We were pushed out at 1145.. why? They had their own party to go to. Will never opt for a party space that NEEDS to have a coordinator on site. Have used the field houses for parties before and will continue to use them again. OR will rent Oriole Pool party room and instead (as long as that particular "party planner" is NOT part of the deal) So terribly disappointed. read more

This review is purely for the 'open' volleyball Thursday nights. I've gone to the gym for years. The workers there are friendly and helpful. The older woman that looks to head this "open" volleyball seems to pick and choose when she would like others to take part. My friends and I have slowly started to participate in the open volleyball here, but have noticed that her attitude towards us participating is not very kind. We come from different suburbs in the Chicagoland area - not exactly close. But we're turned away because she felt that they couldn't let one more team play (even though other players told us we were welcome). Third week in a row we were given attitude while trying to take part in "open" volleyball. I would suggest MG park district try to come up with a sign up sheet or better method of signing up to partake in "open" volleyball. Because if I have to travel from far to only be told I cannot play, it should not be called "open" volleyball. We would have made other arrangements to play had we known we would be told we cannot play there. Instead we wasted 45 mins trying to arrange another court to play. Unprofessional and rude. read more

The Park District fitness center is a clean, well run and basic space to workout and move on! It's pretty affordable and offers a decent locker room and free parking which makes me happy. I was spending 60% more at a big gym only to realize I was basically doing the same thing each time which motivated me to look for more reasonably priced alternatives and the Park District was the answer! read more

Took a Zumba class here, it rocked! Was only $60, and the instructor Katie was really good, and knew what she was doing. She allowed flexibility in the class, and gave suggestions on moves for those who couldnt keep up, or had difficulty doing some of the moves. I just wish the room wasnt full of mirrors, I dont want to watch myself or anyone else for that matter! read more

My younger brother has taken numerous summer classes here. They have lots of programs for little kids, from sports to art classes. Its a great place for kids and the rates are really reasonable if you are a Morton Grove resident. They have a few classes for adults. But I think a better option is their fitness room and their swimming pools that are part of the membership. read more

I enrolled my 17 month old and soon to be 3 year old in a swim class this past summer. What a waste! The class was "taught" (and I use that word very loosely) by a bunch of teenage lifeguards who sang a couple songs and then left us to our own devices for the rest of the 40 minute session. Also, they have the youngest class as the very first session in the morning in an outdoor pool. Naturally, the water was still freezing at that time. I could see several little toddlers shivering with their lips turning blue. I took my kids out of the water several times before the class ended because it was just too cold. Either that or we just skipped the class altogether if the weather that morning wasn't warm enough. My advice, spend the extra money and enroll your kids where they have a heated indoor pool, like Goldfish. read more

I have 2 children and every time the seasonal program book comes out I bookmark all the interesting programs. Very well run & love the preschool programs, (which we graduated out of now). The swimming classes we sign up every year for all 4 consecutive classes (So they go all summer long) & the teachers there are amazing. Jen (pool activity coordinator) is always quick to return a phone call and very cheerful with tons of energy. They have my 12 yr. old son now in swim competitions with swim meets (Tiger Sharks) every other week, very impressive teachers without the stress, they keep it fun. Please note that Morton Grove won a prestigious safety award for the diligent training of their life guards, I noticed that even before I heard they won awards. The life guards are never "clowning around" as you would think teenagers would, they are extremely professional and always turning there heads to scan the pool in a very specific pattern. They are trained very well! The main facility is always well maintained, they keep it at a very comfortable temperature. The work out area has everything you need & the spin class there was actually a lot of fun. The main building is truly huge on the inside & they have several smaller building off site for other classes and activities, all very well maintained. They even teach ballroom dance with Micky & Regina, they were both teachers at Arthur Murray for years. They will have you doing things you never thought you would within just a few classes, they break down the steps so its easily understandable. Can't wait for fall classes to resume, this is a great "date night" every Friday. Every May they invite you to a major ballroom dance, which allows you you use your new found talents! You can't help but have a smile on your face when your dancing, it really is a nice treat of time to ourselves. All in all I would give them 10 stars if I could, affordable fun for kids and well organized. Great programs for all ages, what more could you ask for?! Keep up the good work! Great place to workout, gym is very nice, but could use a little more equipment. Everyone is friendly in there and everyone puts their weights back. This Park District is on par with the Skokie Park District I would say. Their pool rates are cheaper but not as much to explore (Skokie has 3 giant slides and other play areas as well as their pool) However, if you're looking for a quality summer program for you or your kids, you ought to look into Morton Grove's karate classes for instance. Once a week classes for different age groups, fantastic instructors and always a comfortable temperature to work out in. During all seasons do they have programs running, some of course, due to weather close after winter or summer (like swimming etc.) They do have some great family programs and special nights out that may give you something different and fun to do with your kids. Campouts for example. They also have year round puppy training which is good to know. I haven't first hand experienced their classes but a friend of mine had said they were really good with their pup. During the summer season only they provide a preforming arts camp. Now there are other places to do a preforming arts summer camp (Northlight for instance) and better places (Piven is the top of the line) but if you don't want to travel far, or pay a LOT of money, this is a great opportunity for your aspiring thespian or movie star kids to stay busy out of trouble and have a lot of fun. read more

I went there for the first time yesterday to sign up for the fitness gym. The front of the house guys were knowledgeable and funny. The gym was surprisingly clean. Maybe because there's not a lot of patrons that use the facility which is a plus for me. Space is a little tight, but its great. If you're looking for a spot to do the power moves -- squat/deads/cleans go to the next room, mymistake for not looking around. They only have the basic machines, compared to xsport or la fitness across the street. Complete set of DB's, ample BB's. Lots of attachments for cable exercises, they have a mini running track that goes around just like at LA fitness in morton grove. People that ive worked out so far seems good and nice, they return weights to.its proper place (pet peeve of mine) they seem to know each other as well which is a good sign. Overall, if youre looking for a clean, quiet community gym to lift and run and dont want the hassle of other people's BS. Cant stress enough that this gym is cleaannnnn, lockers are spotless, and its the freakin men's locker room im talkin about! What more on the womens side, you probably can sleep there lol. read more

This review is in regards to the "open" volleyball on Wednesdays. I have been going for a few weeks now and the older woman that seems to be "in charge" of who plays and when always seemed annoyed that new people were coming in to take part. My friends and I never felt welcome, even though everyone else there was very accommodating. It shouldn't be called "open" volleyball if she is not open to paying guests. Last Wednesday she asked us to leave because there were already 3 teams, even though the lady at the front desk did not tell us we had to leave or that there was a cap to how many people are allowed on the court. read more

Long time Club Fitness member. Very clean and well equipped health club. Staff and members are friendly and supportive. Recentl upgrades added new TM's, ellipticals and stair climbers. There are clean locker rooms as well as a stretching area. Small track is okay for walkers. Very reasonable rates and there is ample parking. read more

My wife and I have been members of the Fitness Center for several years. It is convenient to our home. It is never too crowded. You can always get to a machine or weights. The recent remodeling has given almost every machine a personal TV. The only thing they don't have is a swimming pool. They have a sauna but no whirlpool spa. People are very friendly. read more

I'm a MG resident so maybe I'm biased but this park district is really excellent. Their programming is diverse and they have family friendly activities throughout the year. My daughter loved the ballet class and the Halloween celebration there because she received a bag of goodies, had her face painted, played games and took part in a spooky storytelling show. We participated in the world's friendliest community garage sale last year. They are in the works for completing a new outdoor pool, which in plans, looks fantastic. The actual park outside the district is great for toddlers because it has size-conscious structures and a sound installation. So much fun. read more

I like this place. However, I before I liked it even better. After they had a Groupon deal, it's became very crowded. Originally I chose that place because it was very clean, not crowded and cozy. One more minus of MG Park District is that the pool is very small, I wish it was larger. Other than that, it's a really nice place to work out or just have fun playing basketball with your friends. The Morton Grove Fitness Center gets my vote for an attractive and reliable place to work out. I have been an annual member for about seven years and use the equipment three days a week with little or no exceptions. The staff keeps everything working properly and recently completed a sensible renovation that included replacement of some of the older devices and added a new room for child care where the old hot tub was located. I am really disappointed. I have been a resident of Morton Grove my entire life. There are some staff members at the park district that are just down right rude and for absolutely no reason. Last year i had my daughters first birthday at the community center room and dealing with Liz Manning was just awful. How can you be the Guest Service Supervisor when you are not nice to people, don't respond to their phone calls or emails...? It took forever to get any answers out of her. This year I attempted to call again and ask questions about a different facility, and the staff, including Liz was rude once again. I will definitely be taking my family and money else where. First off the space at the Civic center was GREAT. The event staff was efficient and got their jobs done. The sales and event coordination however was not so great. We found out at our final walkthrough with the venue and caterer that there was an event that was supposed to be getting done at the same time that we were to get the room. A bit of google searching showed that event planning on going an hour or so PAST when we were supposed to get the room that we had a contract for. Looking back it was clear that this issue had been known for at least three months and if Larry had admitted to us what was going on would have been a VERY easy change to ensure that there were no issues however we were under the impression that all had been fixed some other way. Thankfully the work staff from the civic center and our Caterer did great jobs making sure that this wasn't an issue on the day of the event. We would gladly use this space again however will not be working with Larry again. read more
