Morty's stepped up the food game! Don't know when that happened but I found out last night. The creole shrimp is amazing! It is so flavorful with just the right spice. The Blat Wraps and mozzarella wedges, also very satisfying and so filling I could only eat half. The spinach soup too! It was all happily, surprisingly, delicious. Just had breakfast there on 7/29/14. I'm very disappointed. They used to have great breakfast there. But this was bad across the board. The staff acted like they didn't know what to do, or what the menu was. I ordered the sirloin steak. Morty's used to have the best, now it's tough and barely eating. The bartender didn't know what to charge me for a drink. It took 35 minutes to get my breakfast out, and I had to send the steak back to be cooked further. I would not eat there again any time soon. read more

So I did come back lol. We came for dinner and drinks and it was a completely different experience. Food came out fast. I ordered the wings and their signature sauce is absolutely fabulous. I usually like this place... Here's the problem, we came here at 1pm on a Sunday for breakfast (lol, it's Sunday funday!!) We got the menus and it was a lunch menu. The menu features bar fare with pizazz with tasty offering such as Alaskan Amber, hand-dipped halibut and chips, steak kebobs and a variety of specialty hot wings. Morty's is a great place to watch sports. This is some really good food. Who says you can't go gourmet while watching a Sunday beating? The Korean stir-fry, slow-roasted prime rib dinner and shrimp ravioli is a dead giveaway that Morty's serves gourmet grub. Even with the fancy food, prices are reasonable and nothing, including the Surf & Turf is over $15. Appetizers averaging around $5 and lunch coming in under $8 means you don't have to spend a lot to enjoy above-average bar food. Morty's Tap & Grille is a neighborhood bar with a modern décor. The panel walls echo that of a manor estate that contrast nicely with the cool hammered steel-top tables. There's an abundance of conveniently scattered TVs and comfortable seating making this not only a great place to watch the game, but a place to hang out at and enjoy a fantastic meal. But when you throw in the neon beer signs, a couple pool tables and a decorated Moosehead, you've got guys wishing Morty's was in their basement. Oh, and lest not we forget it's a sports bar. Morty's features 15 televisions playing all the games, all the time, including the Sunday Ticket, ESPNU and all the NFL matchups that attract posses of Chargers, Seahawks and Raiders fans to name drop a few. There are pull tabs, video games and a nice patio with heaters. Even with the gourmet grub, you get the feeling everything is still designed to go well with a cold one. If you're here for the beer, There are a dozen on tap, perfectly chilled bottles and great pitcher specials for Monday Night Football and the Saturday college games. They get a 5 for the bar aspect, a 3.75 for the food, and a 3 for the service, so I'm going to average them at a 4 star. For a neighborhood bar, it's exactly what you'd want. There are two pool tables, an arcade/shooting game, digital jukebox, cheap drinks, and late night eats. Although the food is always good, it's not the real reason to come here and if you're looking for great American food on the south hill, there are other places that are doing it better. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that although not jaw dropping, I've never had a bad meal here. It's bar food, after all. Simple and cheap. I will say that their chicken strips and fries late at night after an evening of drinking makes for a marvelous combination. I'm a sucker for tasty chicken strips. They are also open early for breakfast every day (at 7 AM) and do make good omelettes/scrambles (my fave is the bacon avocado omelet or the Palouse scramble- but get the gravy on the side because it comes with a lot!) and several different kinds of eggs Benedict (my favorite is the Californian). Now for the service, although every server and bartender I have encountered has been very nice, service is always pretty slow. I've been here at breakfast time, lunch time, and late night, and at all times you may be waiting for a little awhile. As long as you're not in a rush, though, it's really not that bad. read more

I used to visit Morty's very regularly, then I moved to Chicago. I guess while I was gone it came under new management. I'm pretty sure just one person from before I moved, which was just two years ago, still works there. Morty's is pretty similar to the great place it once was, but things have changed slightly (and not for the better). While I still enjoy Morty's, mostly due to proximity and it being a place lots of my friends go, not the same. Prices have gone up, the specials are no longer special (rest in peace $3 pitches of Hamm's). It is a perfect neighborhood bar, it knows that and it pretends to be nothing else. After about 9pm it is great for people to drink some beers, play some pool and hang out. Before 9pm it's more of a get a meal and drink a beer sort of place. I've never done that, though I hear it's solid for eating, drinking and watching sports. There are probably 14 tables with 4-8 seats each along with a bar that adds at least 15 more. Unless you show up on Trivia night, Wednesdays at 8:30, or for a Seahawks game, you'll be able to find seating. They have maybe 10 taps ranging from PBR and Kokanee to rotating craft beers. As far as other booze is concerned there is a full selection of liquor and numerous wines as well. The staff is very friendly and, in what is possibly the only improvement due to the changes, quite numerous. It's a sports bar so there are TVs everywhere. Multiple tubes can be viewed from nearly every seat in the bar. Also, two pool tables occupy one corner of the space. Out back there is a covered patio. There is one really crappy TV out there, probably seven tables and a small smoking area in the corner. All in all there is nothing at all special about Morty's but, it knows that. read more

Stopped at Morty's for breakfast this morning. Very disappointed in the food as most of our food was served lukewarm to cold! Several servers were standing around talking and not paying attention to the meals that were at the kitchen window for an extended period of time. There is no excuse for this. Decent bar, they make nice, strong drinks, but they don't have a huge selection of beer on tap. Wings are meh, fries are tasty but the ranch they served was very watery. It was nice to be able to finish watching the WSU game and there were plenty of fans there. The service was pretty slow, and it wasn't that busy. Got lost. One jerk brought a group of 40 without reservations. They took them anyhow and hussled and they were all loud and happy. So this review is based off only one visit, and a take out order at that, but I was surprisingly impressed. I was having one of those feeling miserable with woman issue days and needed greasy food, pronto. And not the fast food type of grease, but the real food kind. Now be it as it may, I'm not always a fan of greasy food and the low rating review telling how they thought it was too greasy is why I decided to give it a try. Well that and the fact is is pretty close to where I live. Upon entering, I actually felt like it was home. This is seriously a place I would come hang out alone and drink and feel comfortable doing so. The music was decent and it had that friendly atmosphere. I would however say, if you are eating in or with a group of people, the service may be a little slow. It seemed as if the bartender (who seemed amazing) was manning the whole place alone so not sure if that's a day to day thing but just something to keep in mind. My order was ready when I got there and when I got home with it, it was still nice and warm. I got the usual burger (just plain bacon cheeseburger) and let me tell you, it was not "too" greasy. It was big, and flavorful and I definitely could NOT finish the whole thing. The fries were also okay. I wouldn't say "excellent" but not too greasy, not overcooked either. I also got an order of chili cheese fries. Let me tell you, I am picky about chili cheese fries but these were amazing! I paid about $20 for my order but I have plenty of leftovers for dinner. I will be back here again and I hope my next experience is as good as this one. read more

It's not very often I find myself that far on the south hill. Now that I have found this quaint little bar and grill... I'll be back. Although a little early for lunch at 1100 o'clock, we decided to stop in and check it out. At first the service was slow, we almost left after 10 minutes waiting for our drinks. I am glad we were patient, after the waitress brought the drinks and took our order everything went fast and friendly. I had the Louie breakfast Benedict, WOW it was phenomenal. King crab on an English muffin with eggs Benedict, and a side of perfectly cooked hash browns. Strongly recommend going here for breakfast served until 1:00. I think I will go back on a Thursday have breakfast drink beer until evening then devour their 1pound special of steamed clams. Can't wait see ya there! read more

I very rarely write reviews but thought it was important to recognize Joe's impeccable service on 6/7/2018. I came in this Thursday night as often do when I get off of work. He is always on top his game and I'm always grateful for him and how good he is at his job. He was exceptional this particular night. He was extremely busy being the only front of the house employee at the time. With 8-10 people at the bar, seven tables with 2-4 people, and 7 people playing pool, he was killing it. He gave the best service to everyone given his limited resources. Joe is great and very invaluable resource to Morty's!! read more

This time, no one would even come to our table we never got a menu, no one told us hello, and all of this happened even after making eye contact with several people and waving at them. Wonderful place for breakfast. Since Famous Ed's closed, Morty's is best now. The only gripe I have is that there isn't enough parking. Came in for the first time today and was not greeted at the door. After standing there for a few minutes a girl came and looked at us, looked around the room, and said "yeah I think there's a table in the back corner over there". She did not show us to our seats so we just kind of wandered over there. After waiting for 15 minutes, with no employees checking in on us, and no eye contact to be had in our little back corner table, we got up and left. Disappointing because we wanted to try out the food as it looked really good. I don't know if the staff assumed we just came in to sit down but nobody was interested in serving us so we will not be back. read more

My husband and I love the prime rib on Friday night after a long week of working. The last couple of times it has been good-not great but good. Last night my friend and I went for dinner, and what a disappointment. Salad was wilted, the prime rib was so dry and tough-way overcooked. We both ordered medium and get that it doesn't have a lot of pink, but a good medium cut of meat has at least a little. It just wasn't the quality of meal I'm used to from the establishment. Fat tire Bud Lite Coors Lite Kokanee Hamms Blue Moon Now I don't want to begrudge those who are low on cash or just don't want a beer with some flavor, but dam, just next door and down the street I can get numerous types of great local and Craft Beers. The only one here worth a dam is Manny's. Yes they do have Alaskan Amber but really that should go on the list above. It is really a bummer because this is a great place with a nice outdoor area and some pretty nice people. I hope they fix this soon. We only had a couple of Apps which were pretty good but way overpriced for the amount served. On the plus side the Cole Slaw was amazing. Morty's has become our new favorite Sunday morning breakfast spot. So far everything we have tried has been great. We adore Peggy who is usually on duty Sunday mornings waiting tables. One morning we started talking about our favorite meal, biscuits and gravy, with bacon and eggs. After much conversation with Peggy on how we all like ours, we came up with a new twist and she has now named it eggs Erich. What she has the cook do is the biscuits and gravy, only she has them scramble the eggs, dice up the bacon, put it on the biscuits and then pour the country gravy on top. This is to die for! I usually have such a great experience at Morty's. I frequently eat dinner and go there for drinks. I will NEVER go back there after the last experience I had there. We had the rudest waitress Katie. She didn't even come over to take our order, we had to go up to the bar after waiting 15 minutes. She was very rude and just blew us off. She didn't come check to see if we needed anything and took so long to bring the bill we just went up and asked for the check! Then she didn't even give us the right change! I'm very disappointed! Had the worst bar burger ever. It was served hardly warm and lettuce wilted. Bun was sweet. Fries were cold and soggy. Absolutely tasted like a frozen hamburger patty. I can do that at home for free. Poor service, very slow help, only concentrating on pull tabs and not anyone else. I'll never go back or refer the place to anyone. No present manager is always a problem with Morty's. High turn over, poor service, marginal breakfast with free coffee attracts local losers. Rise to a better clientele, better service, higher quality food. read more

This place is a hidden gem, breakfast lunch and dinner. I always thought it was just a bar, but when a friend raved on Facebook I checked it out. Now I'm raving too! The staff was great, the food was sooo good. I even watched a waitress chase a dad into the parking lot with an abandoned pacifier to make sure his day went well. we ordered the Prime Rib Medium Rare. The edges were well done, not much juice in the meat, nor any flavor at all. The Au Jus was spicy and not a rich meaty flavor. The bread was dry all the way through, could not bite it. The salad was partially limp, not nice and crisp. We used to eat at this restaurant and it was excellent. They must have a different chef, possibly ownership, but certainly did not have the quality of food we have had previously. If you like your meat well done and chewy, go for it... we will never go back. My mouth is still burning from the au jus sauce. Have gone to Morty's a lot but our last 2 experiences haven't been good. Went there on Father's Day and it took forever to get our food. Then I phoned in a lunch order during the week at 10:40 to be picked up at 11:30. First I was told lunch wasn't served until 11 and then I reminded the gal I wasn't picking it up till 11:30. I got there at 11:25 only to find out that the order was never put in and then told there are 3 orders ahead of me. The waitress responded "my bad" and said they were slammed.
