Always a great place to hang out. This is a frequent place for my husband and I to have a beer and some great appetizers or meals. Located in the Union district on Sprague We stopped by recently before heading to a comedy show downtown. I love the steak bites. Roasted garlic and tender seasoned steak with sauce. My husband's favorite is the quesadilla. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Fabulous service, can't say enough about that. Conveniently located on Sprague with on street parking. I have been to Union Tavern twice and was delighted with their food both times. Most recently I enjoyed a Reuben sandwich and but it was a tough call between that and the burger I had the first time. What a great find for us. This has been here for a while, we just somehow missed the boat. It's in what I'd refer to as a shady part of town that is trying to get away from that moniker. This business certainly helps. Walking in, there's a feeling of a community tavern that is clean and houses friendly staff. Natasha was our server and was quick to help us get our order going and keep our drinks full. The Rueben and Combo Dip were top notch as were the house made chips and non-greasy tots. Pricing is also good for today's market and they have some very good deals on certain days. I would highly recommend checking them out. We'll be back for sure. read more

It's been awhile since we've been here, but it was just as great as we remember. We had the Union Potato Chips, the Sonneberg's Sausage Bites and two Cold Smoke draft beers. We were given popcorn & a menu seconds after we sat down. We wanted a dark beer & our waitress, Sam, recommended the Cold Smoke draft. Stopped in for lunch after a busy morning shopping in Spokane. Union Tavern is a great little sports bar with a typical bar food menu. As for the ambiance - just what you expect from a bar. Lots of TVs, ample bar seating and well spaced tables. The food was excellent and service friendly and efficient. The Reuben is a standout. Thick rye bread piled high with lean corn beef. The house chips are thick and fresh, and the fries thin and crispy. Don't forget to ask for fry sauce if not offered. The beer menu looked interesting but we didn't try any. We went on a Saturday lunch and there was one family with kids eating lunch. I suspect the crowd gets livelier as the day wears on so I wouldn't exactly call it a family-friendly establishment. Thanks for one of the better lunches I've had in months. This place is right in my wheelhouse. I can honestly say in the 20+ years back in this metro, I'm stoked on what a transformation East Sprague is becoming. Yeah, it's still got it's oldest profession gals, but it's far less noticeable in recent years. I had my palm read in this exact spot in the early 90s, on a bender with band buddies--and she was wrong--I'm still kickin'. Cut to 2021, and this repurposed space is darned nice. Son and I shared bites of our robust plates, and I give them a ton of credit for attempting true English fried fish. It was a bit heavy with the batter, but the fish was flakey goodness, and cooked just right with generous pieces. Son's burger was gorgeous, but you can see that by my photo. Nice owner, and one helluva efficient ginger gal taking care of the whole dining area. It was crowded lunchtime on a Friday, and the place had a joyful vibe. Very very loud joy. It is a serious up-scale tavern, with a gorgeous bar-back that clearly was salvaged from a century-old establishment. Service was very friendly and efficient. Baskets of popcorn on each table. Came here for a work lunch. Service was pretty good but I wasn't overly impressed with the food. It's your standard Sysco crap. They don't put much love into it. I got the feeling it was more of a bar, rather than a food joint (hence the name Union Tavern ) But there's not a lot of options in this area for food. We found this tavern via yelp! We wanted wings and decided to try it out. I love the atmosphere. The cool retro vibes of easy classic rock in the background was nice. The age of customers was very wide! Hubby and I did order the wings. Although I wish the full order was bigger then 10 wings, they were still very good! We also had the pretzel bites. At the top, food is great, love the location, and mostly like the vibe here. Service is a different story. When I was just there, during happy hour it was medium level busy (little less than half tables open) and 3 servers working. In a little more than an hour, a server stopped by to get my drink order and appetizer order, and that was it. The only other time someone stopped by was when I put my card on the table and put my empty plate and glass on the edge of the table. I had wanted to get another drink and order more food, but no one stopped by before I had to leave. I've had service issues a couple of times here now, but this was clearly the worse. read more

But came here tonight and haven't been disappointed in any aspect of our visit. The ambience is cool and inviting. The service is phenomenal. Katie was engaging and gave us fabulous recommendations. Fun vibe at this Sprague Union District establishment. We've been there several times. It's getting quite busy on Tuesdays for their burger special. It seems to be wearing on the staff; the front of the house staff aren't as friendly and the back of the house is turning out overdone meals. Loved it! This was our first time. We started with the jalapeño breadsticks. They were yummy! Stuffed with mozzarella, jalapeño, and bacon. Not too spicy though. I had the Ruben with union chips and Ed's sauce which is a bbq sauce that's fantastic. My husband had the fish with tots and slaw. He said it was great too. The atmosphere was casual and nice and not too loud with great music playing. The service was great and everyone was very nice. We will definitely be back. Reuben , bread should have been toasted so as not to turn to mush. Fish tacos were in fact coleslaw tacos with a(1), piece of fish the size of my thumb.
