I was a firm believer in Mosaic and what our community was capable of, so much that I went to this church for ten years. I've restled with this for months, talked with David Arcos, Lawrence Fudge, Joe Smith, Therese Mascardo, and attempted to talk to Erwin, but was told he's too busy. The Conference this past weekend was this ice breaker. Trust me, Mosaic has become the place that everyone in Los Angeles used to go too. In the last two years this church has become very toxic. Leadership will do whatever Erwin says, he's very god like. I now understand why some people say "mosaic is a cult" - I wouldn't take it that far, but there are some extreme similarities. I don't believe that Erwin purposevly hurts leadres and volunteers, I think he just is unaware of it because of his son. It's hard to ignore facts like 7 or 8 pastors either quiting or been let go because of the pastors son behavior. I've served on every team imaginable: connections, mens ministry, production, Terra Nova and Highlander leadership, hospitality, YELO!, High School, Kids, Dance, Film, but after seeing friend and friend leave, and hearing story after story you have to really ask yourself what are you a part of. Are you part of a church community that's about Jesus (Mosaic once was), or are you a part of a church that's agenda is all about glorifying the senior pastor and being the biggest and most influential church in the world. Kind of hard to be influential around the world when your community at home is suffering. In the course of the 10 years, I know over 5000 people who have left the church because of the way Mosaic operates and leads, but I've never seen the amount of volunteers and leaders leave the church in the past two years. Easily over 1000 people in the last year alone, all who remain in Los Angeles, and have just filtered into other faith communities such as Hillsong, City Church, Zoe, Vintage, Reality, or the One. Save yourself the pain and check out another church. Don't believe me, walk into any other church in Los Angeles and I guarantee you will meet someone who used to go to Mosaic, or is on the fence about leaving mosaic. Some friends say they have community groups/bible studies with friends who used to go to Mosaic at another church. Once again, save yourself time, check out Hillsong, City Church, Oasis, Zoe, Vintage, Reality, or the One, or any of the other great churches in the area. Let's also, remember to pray for Erwin. God will not allow his church to operate much longer like mosaic is operating. read more

Went there once and found out that it was "Great" if you're "Straight". Mosiac says that is a non-demonational church but I found out that it is a Southern Baptist Church. Which means it believes in the literal truth of the bible and that all fags like me (who don't think that being gay is a problem) will go to hell. Needless to say... this led to an akward interaction between me and some very pleasant, nearly all white, hipster homophobes. It was uncomfortable for everyone. It would have been nice if Mosaic advertised itself in a more open and truthful manner... rather than pretending to be progressive because it has a very loud band playing very marginal music.... hidden homophobs are still homophobs... and hate on the low down... is still hate. I would suggest it come out of the closet and state that it is a Southern Baptist Church. Oh.. and this crowd is only "cool" if you are from Omaha. The idea that this is a place filled with "actors, artists and creative types" is the silliest misconception ever. This is a group of people that think "GAP" ads are cool, "the Vampire Diaries" is high art and "the Da Vinci Code" is literature. Not an interesting person in the entire bunch... cause to be interesting means you are able to think and if you are able to think then you would see through the charade that is Mosaic. OMG... I now know where all those kids from the "marching band" ended up after High School. AND OMG!!!!!... LET'S BE HONEST.... Is Mosaic really a Christian Church???? After reading some of the complaints about Mosaic being a bad neighbor (and some of its ruffle-feathered parishioners' responses)... I am wondering if Mosaic is really a christian church as in feed the hungry, heal the sick, welcome the unwanted... Christian Church... or is it just a want-to-be social/night club for non-creative vanilla posers from Wisconsin??? pretending to be a Christian Church for tax purposes. Cause... LET'S BE HONEST... if it is the latter then Mosaic should start paying taxes... and if it is the former... then it should start to be CONSIDERATE of its neighbors... I went to Mosaic for around 6 months, giving me enough of a read on the culture and church to be able to speak on it. Pastor Erwin is undoubtedly intelligent and well-meaning, but every week he offered Ted Talk- style sermons that seemed to have clouded messaging and ones that were not strongly tied to the gospel. The part I usually warn people of is the church culture they've created, which encourages caring about being on trend and hip in order to attract the atypical church goer. They used to tell us volunteers: "we want to create culture and not be an outdated Church" which is needed in a city like LA, but I think along the way, prioritizing being "hip, socially elite and trend-setting" got twisted into a culture that praises fashion and attractiveness and turned harmful to those who don't thrive in the LA scene. Furthermore, the committed volunteers and church leadership are cliquey. It seems those who are worthy enough are propped onto a pedestal through the skillful marketing and production teams. Then, the people who aren't on the "in circles" seem to praise those that are "cool" continuing to volunteer at church services and hoping to one day get a chance to even be introduced to anyone in leadership. I get that it's too big of a church for the head pastoral team to be readily available to everyone, but I think they could make improvements. REEDEMING QUALITY: I did meet some amazing people while volunteering at mosaic. All criticism aside, being a Christian church, Mosaic does attract some beautiful, well-intentioned and selfless members/ volunteers. They also do such an awesome job at greeting people that any newcomer will absolutely feel welcomed and loved by those working parking, welcome crew, hospitality etc. BOTTOM LINE: I think if you are new to faith, there are more well-rounded and deeper churches to try out. If you are looking to simply grow in your existing faith, there is little offered in the messaging here that will help cultivate spiritual maturity. Although I do believe God can work anywhere, I unfortunately wouldn't specifically recommend Mosaic to anyone. read more

After attending this church, it is sad to see so many people falling prey to you false doctrine. first of all most of the people in this church are very low income. I volunteered for 5 months, and after asking a simple question during one of the Cross meetings the lead pastor insinuated that I was not a true Christian. he even personally insulted me after I compared his little speech with the truth of the Bible he could not contain his anger in front of a large group of people even.he has also made remarks about his wife being overweight, and using terms as spiritual equivalent, up here versus down here, and men and women being the same gender roles. most of the guys are very feminine no I would not recommend this place for dating at all. the people are very competitive and it's like high school all over. most of them are one of the artist who don't have real careers. every service is like a self-help commentary about how to get ahead in the real world. which is great except he weaves out basic principles of the Bible. one of the pastors even questioned my desire to be married. when I saw him at the next few weeks he was very rude not really at me laughing and rolling his eyes. little did he know I have a movie deal. their community groups are like middle school everyone just rags and is working for the next connection and LA. reeking with insecurity and desperation they joining their little clicks. very very heavily female-dominated and the men don't mind at all. they are very happy to let the women do all the work except when it comes to leadership they don't allow female elders. the last straw for me came when the associate pastor wrapped a Jay Z songs two weeks in a row and then made jokes about being sexually immoral. really how dare he I am a woman and I refuse to hear any the meaning jokes inside and outside of church. just my opinion they all seem like a bunch of kids from high school who are getting their chance to be cool except they are making it in the real world. read more

I attended the church in 2007 and went thru a very hard time in my life. I lost a friend and collapsed on the church floor in despair and was told that the sister in Christ whom saw me collapse in tears was not allowed to help because of "safety issue" of "the possibility of us being sexually attracted to one another, and that's why she called out for me to talk to a brother in the Lord." Years later I went back to the church in hopes that things had changed and asked the Monday night bible study pastor about some issues. When I told him that some of them took place at Mosaic, he had the audacity to imply that I was lying because "he was their" (when he wasn't physically present, but may have been on staff) and threatened to call the police! HA! Like the police would make an arrest on someone that just asks questions and makes not threats, not to mention I was never asked to leave, so I wasn't trespassing. An accountability letter was sent for both issues and the staff ignored it. In my opinion, this is a church that will hear from Jesus, "Where were you when I needed help....if you did it to the least of these, you did it unto me....depart from me you workers of iniquity, I NEVER knew you!" read more

I was warned by many friend's who have already left, but I finally see the truth. Be very cautious about this organization. It's not a church! It's a religious organization claiming to be the most influential church in the world. It operates more like a cult, similar to the one down the street called Scientology. Things that irked me recently and why I am now leaving: 1. Yelling at the community for not giving more money (3 million) so you can buy the building in Pasadena that La La Land was shot it... 2. The Senior Pastors son's attitude and bad leadership - has no problem cutting people down 3. Lack of the word being present in the gatherings 4. Not missional. I was told by a teaching pastor that serving the homeless was a worthless cause because they are "drunks" and "drug addicts" 5. Not an authentic community 6. I was guilted into having many meetings with leadership because I said I was concerned and was told "if you leave, you are missing out on what Jesus is doing in your life." WHAT? SERIOUSLY!!! Absolutely disgusted and offended. No women spoke to me. Men treated me like I came to husband hunt for a rich American and network. I felt rejected because I wasn't skinny. I have a foe that goes to this church and suspect shed told people things and I was treated very badly. At the end of the service I snuck out feeling threatened that I was on foes territory. I'll admit growing up I always wanted to be in the cool groups at church but was never good enough, even now people play these pathetic games. At least I have the balls to admit it. If you're looking for a place to connect, a place for perspective, or just looking for help but don't know what for, Mosaic is something worth checking out. Mosaic welcomes people, period. Doesn't matter who you are or what you do. All you need to do is introduce yourself to someone and what you are looking for, and they'll genuinely do what they can to help you. Mosaic is a faith community of people that follow Jesus. Since it's run by people, it's not perfect. But it's the closest thing I've found to a place where I can be myself and know that I'll be loved despite my many faults and imperfections. I love that. I can honestly say that my life in LA wouldn't be the same or filled with nearly as many deep, qualitative relationships had it not been for Mosaic. I get a lot out of Pastor Hank & Erwin's messages and am always bummed when I can't make it on a Sunday. I have never felt that positive about church before! read more

Every message that their "pastors" come and preach is hollow and incomplete. somebody must have talked to them about the lack of Bible in their bible studies, because they recently started interjecting random scriptures out of context into their stories which is both amusing and embarrassing. Every worship song is about "me" and "I" and falls right in line with the character of their leadership. If you like loud music, lights and emotions, but aren't crazy about meeting the real Jesus Christ (Who just so happens to have died for your sins), this is your church. This church was amazing to my wife and I. We love Hank and Erwin and their commitment to Christ. I can't recommend it enough. You will be blessed beyond your fondest dreams. With that said we won't be back. One of the representatives of the church Terese turned her back on us like a hot cake because as a Christian I would not give up a 30 years friendship to a man who was married to a huge monetary giver. They will always prioritize their fancy donors / members who sit in the front, left side of the church with all the pastors. It's not about community or love or even Jesus. This place is about Erwin's love of power. And his wife Kim, when comfortable enough to express herself is homophobic and transphobic and makes discriminatory comments. This is my home. Thanks to Mosaic, I've found my community. The people who love me as fearlessly as God does. The heartbeat of this place is serving the city of Los Angeles and the world. They work closely with Syrian refugees relocated to the crazy city of LA and do countless work all over the globe. Their heart to serve everyone who walks in the door is beautiful. This church is horribly inconsiderate towards the neighboring community. They play music late into the night multiple days a week then congregate outside in the parking lot talking loudly and yelling only yards from people's homes. It is impossible to sleep and despite many attempts by neighbors to reach out to the Pastor, our complaints and requests for consideration just fall on deaf ears. I've been coming to Mosaic for many years now and I couldn't imagine life without such an incredible place! I have met some of my closest friends here and it's my favorite part of the week, hands down! Pastor Erwin and the entire staff at Mosaic have such an incredible heart that longs for people to know Jesus and for people to know other people. This church popped up when I searched for progressive churches. It is not a progressive church. It's more like a contemporary hipster evangelical church that still discriminates against LGBTQ people. They say LGBTQ people are welcomed but they won't officiate same sex weddings which is one of the big litmus tests to see if they truly are inclusive of LGBTQ people. But the music sounds good. This church is absolutely amazing! The worship has a nice mixture of both up beat and slower, really spiritual songs. Not to mention, the songs they write themselves are so good! The messages that Erwin, Joe, and the other pastors give really relate to the stuff you're going through in life. The community is also so friendly and ready to serve.
