I don't support self-checkout because I am strongly in favor of humans having jobs. If I had not needed the items I had, I would have just left. I can do the tech but I'm sure the owners of Walmart are not going broke and are quite capable of hiring and scheduling cashiers. I am also confident that any savings they make on wages go right into corporate profits and pockets. They are not doing this to make things cheaper for customers, although I'm positive that is the story they tell to justify the self-checkout lanes. The more the self-checkout trend grows, if it does, the fewer people there will be who will have that paycheck to spend. I have also heard they lose more money at some of the stores than they paid out in wages because the "attendants" can't watch everyone, and a lot of unpaid merchandise walks out the doors. I only shop at Walmart if I'm desperate already, and now I know not to go there at night if I don't want to compromise my principles.

The good thing about this store was all the displays for the sale items were always way to big, so they would never run out of items. (Safeways in SF has a great sale on soup-- can i get soup? No, out and no rainchecks! STOCK UP PEOPLE!) Only a few times did I find some bad produce or some bad meat, but for the most part, everything was good. It's not as cheap as Wal-mart, but a nice because it doesn't have that crowded feeling as Wal-mart. I think I've always bagged my groceries here.

I always find new snacks to try, natural soaps and cleaning products, and I can always count on them to have our holiday Tofurky:) The prices are a little higher than I like to pay for groceries, but no other store in town carries a lot of the foods and I like supporting a locally run business. They have a customer card that you can use and after you buy a certain amount you get coupons for discounts on future purchases. I won't be doing all my shopping at JC Health, but for several items that are not available anywhere else, it's convenient and very cool to have our own health food store:)
