Our family moved from Atlanta to Providence last summer, and both of our kids (2 and 4 year old boys when we started) started at Meeting Street ~9/2025 . It was a year with a lot of transition, and our oldest son in particular had a challenging year behaviorally. What impressed us most about Meeting Street was how consistently the teachers and staff responded with patience, creativity, and a genuine commitment to figuring out how to help him succeed. When our son was struggling, his teachers and the school coordinator worked with us to develop strategies, adapt the classroom environment, find ways to keep him engaged, and connect us with additional resources when we needed them. They consistently looked past the difficult behavior to see the smart, curious, energetic kid underneath it. By the end of the year, he is genuinely ready for kindergarten, and we feel much better equipped as parents because of what we learned from his teachers. Our experience with our 2-year-old's teachers has been equally wonderful. His teachers were extraordinarily calm and patient despite managing a classroom full of very young children at completely different stages of development. They put tremendous thought into their teaching, creating fun theme weeks and art projects while letting the kids' interests and curiosity guide their learning. They also worked closely with us through the entire potty-training process. Somehow, while caring for a room full of 1 1/2- to 3-year-olds at all different stages of diapering and potty training, they helped our son go from diapers to being fully day-trained by age three. He is heading into preschool well prepared, happy, and confident. One of the things we value most about Meeting Street is how genuinely inclusive the school is. I believe one of the most important things children can learn is that differences are normal and beneficial, that everyone belongs, and that our environments should be designed to work for all kinds of people. The teachers here are unusually well equipped to care for and teach children with different needs, personalities, developmental stages, and ways of learning, which I really think benefits all of the kids. Another thing that really stands out is how many people seem to know and care about your children, even when they aren't their primary teachers. The receptionist greets the kids every morning with "Good morning, chicken nuggets!" and somehow always has a sticker or little toy ready for them. Teachers from neighboring classrooms know the kids, help with difficult drop-offs, and jump in wherever they're needed. There is a real sense that the entire school is invested in the children. The staff themselves are warm, funny, patient, knowledgeable, and clearly care deeply about what they do. We have had so many conversations with teachers and administrators that helped us understand our kids better and become better parents. We are leaving Meeting Street because our kids are moving on to a local public kindergarten and a preschool around the corner from it (an hour of bridge traffic each day was the only downside to this school for us!), but we are genuinely sad to leave. We feel incredibly lucky that our kids spent this important year surrounded by people who cared so much about them and who helped them become ready for their next steps. If you're considering Meeting Street, I would highly recommend it. Our kids have been loved, challenged, supported, and included here. We will be grateful to the teachers and staff for a very long time.

I was concerned when I first considered different childcare options that my very high energy, very…read morephysical preschooler would somehow not have his needs met at a school that is designed to meet the needs of those with special needs. Growing up in Rhode Island, I always thought of Meeting Street as a school for those with disabilities, but I didn't realize it was SO SO SO much more than that - it's a wonderful place for all children. From my very first meeting with the director, Miss Ange, I was very impressed - she addressed my concerns perfectly by saying they were used to addressing children as individuals and finding ways to meet their educational and emotional and physical needs. So if my child has a "high energy quota" (as she put it so wonderfully), they'll find ways to meet that proactively as an educational obstacle rather than try to force him to fit a certain mold (sit and listen) or punish his energy just as a behavioral problem. And they've met that every step of the way. They've got a wonderful playground that they use frequently, they have lots of physical activity including gym class (which is accessible to even his classmates with physical limitations), and they have an indoor sensory gym that allows for him to get his wiggles out even on rainy days. He's quickly learned that his energy isn't a bad thing, but how to channel it into the right directions so that he can be a good friend and classmate, and a good listener and nice student. His preschool teacher, Miss Abbi, has amazing energy and has managed to make great progress in his listening and socialization skills in the month he's been in class. He is now much more independent in putting his clothes and shoes on himself, he sits for quiet time when instructed to do so, he eats more foods than he did before starting school, and he's much better at interacting with other kids - asking to take turns, including others. I've also loved the app they use - it makes it easier to know when they've been checked in and out if someone other than me is doing it that day, and they send notes and photo updates throughout the day so both their Dad and I can see what they're up to at school. I fully believe my children (I also have a toddler who is also doing wonderfully) are better for being in such a loving environment where each child is an individual and loved for who they are, for having friends who may be different from them. It's a wonderful place, and I'd pick it every single time over and over as the childcare option for my kids. Every single day, my kids beg to go to school and hold hands and run into their classrooms with smiles and not a backwards glance at me. That's the best reward, knowing they love being there every day.

The teachers at Montessori Children's House have the level of knowledge and expertise that I aspire to, and they are masters at their craft in every sense of the word. As a parent, I have seen how my five-year-old--who had been a reluctant learner--has learned how to read words, sentences, and books and write in cursive. She has been completing addition and subtraction problems with four-digit numbers as well as multiplication equations. She has learned about continents, countries, and cultures, with regular presentations on specific holidays such as Diwali in India, St. Lucia's Day in Sweden, St. Nicholas Day in Denmark, the Lunar New Year in China, Purim, Holi, and the Bengali New Year delivered by class parents to name a few. My child has held a snake and eventually, the snake's babies, while also caring for guinea pigs and raising chicks and butterflies. She studies Spanish vocabulary, creative movement, sewing, weaving, and painting. While this school offers a phenomenal academic education, the lessons they offer in grace and courtesy, executive functioning skills like planning, organization, goal setting, sustained focus and attention, and self-management (tenets that are built into the Montessori approach) are invaluable. I know in my heart of hearts, as an educator, that this type of education could have impacted my own students' lives greatly, and it has been one of the greatest opportunities that I have been able to give to my child; I know that this school is setting her up for academic, social, and emotional success long-term. Perhaps my favorite aspect of this school, however, is the tight-knit community that we have here. My child has made friends with children who are kind, curious, imaginative, joyful, and from countries all around the world.
