    Open-Face CRAB Sandwich
    Tyler W.

I was planning a weekend trip to Monterey and my friend had recommended this hidden gem to me. The service was friendly and our waitress, Michelle, was very attentive and was patient explaining what the local favorites were. My family ended up getting the open-face crab sandwich and the Hawaiian sea bass. The crab sandwich was excellent as the meat was fresh and plentiful. The side of artichoke was also cooked to perfection and very fresh. The fish was super moist and flavorful and I decided to add on a side of fried artichoke hearts, which was worth the extra price. It was also very convenient that there was outdoor seating, which was perfect for our dog. They even gave my Golden Retriever a bowl of water (bonus points)! The owner, Humberto, also stopped by our table to introduce himself and asked how our food was!

Went here off of a recommendation and I'm glad I did. This quaint little spot was perfect for a delicious meal. Small but had a good atmosphere and friendly environment. Street parking that was very easy to do. The back painting of the building really helps set the mood which was adorable. I got the Seabass special and was not disappointed. The fries were the perfect amount of crispy and the fish was flavorful without being too soft or too hard. The clam chowder tasted like exactly what you're expected and I was glad for that. Excellent service and I had a good view of being able to look outside.

This is a small cafe with diner type food. There are so many options to pick from. The staff are kind and fast, highly recommended if you are in the area and need a quick bite to eat.

The prices were under $20, so overall a good deal for a seafood place. All fried items had breading that wasn't too thick, which I like. Fried artichokes (not pictured) were also very good. I have no complaints.

Neat spot offering casual dining and FRIED ARTICHOKES (and more)! Put that in all caps as there are a few spots that fry artichoke hearts but it can be difficult to find the actual vendor or restaurant going off a street side sign that just says, "fried artichokes". Haha The service was wonderful. They confirmed one order ($12) is great to share between two people and would be too much for one person. Chokes were served hot and sent off with a paper bag, some lemon slices (I think but don't see in my photo), delicious cocktail sauce and good tartar sauce. My mom and I were full after having a very light breakfast about 1-2 hours earlier - fried foods can do that. Neat stuff on the walls and they have exposed outdoor dining tables (west facing and exposed on all sides except the building on the east and no umbrellas or overhead cover - not ideal if windy) with a fun ocean motif to take your photo in front of on a fake dock. Right off Hwy 1. It's difficult to re-enter the highway (rude Californians - all it takes is ease off the accelerator and let a person gun it and go - road is choppy) onto the NB side during high traffic on a Friday around 5:00, so bring patience.

Great portions, fast service and always delicious. Have been coming for breakfast for a few years-but want to try lunch sometime. The country scramble special is the best. You can sit by the windows and watch the traffic go by on Highway One.

Service was great! They were nice and helpful. The food was good but a little too much sauce. I needed something more spicy. They didn't have much but did offer me a salsa. The artichokes were not amazing but an ok extra.

Skirt Steak with potatoes, veggies, and fancy onion rings

Delicious food in an unfussy restaurant, exactly what we were hoping for. My husband and I stopped in Moss Landing Cafe for dinner during our road trip. The restaurant was pleasantly quiet and had nice music. I really liked the style inside: tables had sweet fresh flowers, fishing and oceanic photos hung on the walls. I ordered a daily fish option (halibut) with butter wine sauce, veggies, rice, and salad. My husband ordered skirt steak with veggies, potatoes, and clam chowder. Everything was amazing! We cook almost everyday at home and often feel that our home cooked food is better than what we eat out, but not here! I aspire to make halibut how this restaurant does, and the skirt steak was perfectly cooked to medium. We both loved the clam chowder and the salad dressing seemed really fresh and high quality. We felt the food was well worth the price for the area, our food was $26/person before tips and was near our hotel (Captain's Inn, which we also really like). We left dinner feeling satisfied and delighted. Service was polite, attentive, and didn't hover. Overall 10/10, we will be back if we ever find ourselves in Moss Landing again.

    Bloody Mary

Amazing gem in Moss Landing! It's a cozy little cafe. The food was fantastic and complimented well with their tasty Bloody Mary. Our waitress hustled and checked on us several times. The prices were reasonable. We will definitely be stopping here next time we travel through the area.

Open faced crab sandwich and steamed artichoke split plate.

Went to the cafe for an early lunch. We shared the Deep fried Artichoke hearts trying both dipping sauces and wow definitely did not disappoint. The artichokes were fried to perfection and each sauce brought out different flavors. We shared the Open faced crab sandwich and the server without even asking split the plates for us which is great service. The steamed artichoke on the side was a perfect side dish. We definitely loved the quaint ambiance, fresh flowers at each table was a great touch. We are in town for a few days and will definitely be back.

    Denver Omelet
    Rick P.

This was a tough one. I wanted to love this place going in. Expectations were high because of the almost 5 stars. But here Denver Omelet was missing green bell peppers and did not resemble an omelette. I would classify it as a ham and onion scramble. Nice chunks of ham and fresh onion for sure but if there was cheese, I couldn't detect it and unfortunately there were no green peppers. It landed in front of me about 5 long minutes after my wife's breakfast burrito came out along with my sourdough toast. As the minutes ticked by my toast lost all warmth but the eggs dish wash fresh and hot. Just not a Denver omelette. The staff was friendly but my food came late and I was starving! Ambience is what you're expect in a beach town roadside cafe. I could have been a much better experience. If 3 is average, this experience was a bit below that.

Prawns + Fish lunch combo special
    Michael L.

Stopped by this cafe at the recommendation of a friend who insisted we try the deep fried artichokes. I wasn't too big on the deep fried artichokes after trying them myself. Not many actual artichoke heart pieces and a whole lot of fried batter bits instead. The batter for all of the fried items was a little rough and crunchy, not done as well as other places I've tried. The Cajun Fish Sandwich wasn't really seasoned well (could not tell it was Cajun flavored) and the Prawns + Fish Combo was also scraping par for the course. Overall 3/5 because the quality of the ingredients was decent, just lacking in terms of execution.

    Skirt steak Benedict - 2026

Such a charming little cafe with a varied menu and friendly service. The seating is limited but the great mix of traditional cafe fare plus fresh fish and seafood is a gem. The fried artichokes and crab huevos rancheros were my favorite! The skirt steak Benedict was so flavorfully marinated and generous portions.

It is tucked way back in the industrial zone of Moss Landing, next to the marine labs, the ship docks, and repair shops. But if the weather is nice, this is a spot you want to visit, and grab a seat on their deck overlooking the harbor. You see seals swimming, birds dipping around, and boats coming and going. Suffice to say the ambiance is top notch. The menu, while not the biggest, has a great selection of stuff to choose from. Salads, sides, burgers, steak, soups, seafood, etc. I went with their Seared Fish Tacos, and wow, these were phenomenal. Locally caught fish, with a really delicious sauce, they were the perfect sized lunch. And while they have a selection of beer and wines, they also have a bunch of choices of non-alcoholic elixirs and sodas. In my case, I went with their house-made lavender-anise lemonade, which was fantastic, and just so very refreshing on a warm, sunny day. Service was good, just a bit slow since it was a pretty full house that day. Prices are pretty decent, especially considering where you are, with the taco plate running me about $15, but other entrees going up from there. And parking can be a bit of a pain, since there are very limited streetside spaces in this little industrial village, and getting on/off the highway can be a bit tricky, too, so drive carefully. Overall, I very much enjoyed Woodward's, and I will almost certainly be back when next I'm driving down the coast.

I wanted something to drink that wasn't sweet, so I tried their raspberry ice tea. They used a sugary syrup to flavor the tea, and that was a strike out. It was sweeter than a soda, so it went back and I swapped it out for a plain unsweetened ice tea. Then we tried the cheesy garlic bread, which we were really looking forward to. Welp, it came out with mozzarella cheese and a ton of corn. No butter. No garlic. We all looked at each other when we tried it. Ok, let's try their brussel sprouts. Those are hard to mess up - but sure enough, they managed to. They deep fried them to the point they were black and charred. There wasn't anything left of the brussel sprout itself, it was mostly crunchy charcoal. At this point, we all ordered something we assumed would be safe for our main. I got the sliders and a side salad. I had the salad but only of the sliders. The cheese on it was queso, like you use to dip chips, so it was ran all over the place and the burger was a grease ball. I won't even get into what everyone else had, but they had similar experiences. Overall, it was pretty disappointing. Maybe there are other things or other times where this place is better, but it was a swing and a miss for us.

We like to support local family run businesses and the food has been good in the past. The wait staff are consistently friendly and mostly competent. We've been pleased that when asked about gluten-free options each time, the waiters know about 90% of the menu off the top of their heads and aren't afraid to say they need to ask the kitchen when there's an item they're not sure about, rather than guess the answer, as has happened at other restaurants. Saturday we had a group of 8 that were seated at 4:45, so not exactly rush hour. We finally had to ask for water after 15 min. It was close to an hour from when we placed our orders before the food began arriving. I had informed the waiter of an onion allergy and requested no onions anywhere on the plate, as well as subbing extra veggies for the pasta. My food arrived with onions throughout the veggies. While I appreciate that they quickly took the plate back to fix it, the new plate had only a single serving of veggies which were so undercooked that even with the steak knife if was difficult to cut, and not great to chew either. I quickly gave up and saved it to finish cooking at home. Another guest ordered the tuna fresh catch rare, and it arrived between medium and medium rare, which was quite disappointing. But at least his veggies were closer to al dente. Another small irritation was that they brought out bread and olive oil, but there were only 5 pieces for our group of 8 so we asked for another one for our end of the table, and they charged us. While we recognized many staff as longtime employees, both the food and the service didn't live up to previous visits, which is even more disappointing because we brought new people to experience their food. Given this experience, it'll probably be awhile before we go back.

Parking was super easy. The entrance was already beautiful enough, and the tram was such a unique highlight experience. We got some great videos! I wasn't sure how our timing would be this night so I didn't make a reservation, but we called ahead and arrived a little before 7pm. We inquired about seating in the dining room area and got a drink at the bar and were thankfully squeezed in for a table (due to a cancellation). All of the staff were extremely courteous and attentive. The restaurant itself is an aesthetic rustic garden experience from beginning to end. So many floors to explore and lovely plants to enjoy. Its also right by the water, so sitting outside is also another experience in itself. Perfect for date nights! The food was excellent and surprisingly just as good as the view. The Ahi Carpaccio was sliced perfectly thin and just melted in my mouth. I wasn't expecting to devour the whole thing but i'm glad this dinner was my first meal of the day. The scallops were also divine, loved the mashed potatoes along with it, and the sauce. Also completely finished my entree. My vegetarian date enjoyed the beet salad and the nightly noodle special, which he also thoroughly enjoyed. The drinks we ordered were quite standard (nothing innovative) but still made well. And the mudpie dessert we ordered was also good. The crust was quite crispy. Since we were celebrating an anniversary (though not ours), our server helped us to take a photo which they printed out for us immediately. This was definitely a great touch and rare to find at a restaurant (especially complimentary). I would love to come back and introduce more people to this lovely restaurant!!
