We ordered a bottle of wine and had such a nice time just watching the pizzaolo stretch dough and top pies that we stayed at the bar and ordered our own! Stopped in on a Friday evening around 5:30 for dinner. We didn't have reservations and luckily they had a table available. I would strongly recommend reservations; we happened to get lucky. The atmosphere is an Italian market themed restaurant with several seating areas, bars, authentic brick oven for pizza and wood fired entrees, and a private chefs table dining room. From the minute we walked in and were greeted by the host, we were impressed. The host was super friendly and asked if we had reservations (hint for next time) and told us she had a small table for us or offered bar seating. We opted for the small table. We were shortly visited by our server who was quick to offer us some waters and asked us if we'd like a cocktail or wine. I asked her what bourbons they had and was quite impressed by their selection. As she'd stated they had Angel Envy Bourbon, I asked for a very specific cocktail to see how it would come out and if it was made properly; an Angel Manhattan. This cocktail is a made a certain way with Angel Envy Bourbon, Sweet Vermouth, Angostura Bitters, and a little of Luxardo (or equivalent) original maraschino cherry juice and garnished with the a cherry. The Cocktail was SPOT ON! Then actually have Maraska Cocktail Cherries from Croatia that were even better than the Luxardo. My wife ordered a Moscow Mule and again served properly and made perfectly. Now on to the food! Judging from other reviews, we were expecting a delicious meal and Mossuto's didn't disappoint! We definitely over ordered as we were hungry, but at least we had some food to take home. Appetizer, we ordered the Shrimp Scampi appetizer, the Barretta and mortadella appetizer, a wood fired pizza with shrimp and fresh potato crochets. Besides the shrimp being super fresh, this establishment should be described as a scratch kitchen; everything was made from scratch and super fresh! The buratta and mortadella I could eat every day! It was amazing and I highly recommend it. The pizza was arguably the best brick oven pizza I've ever had and the crust was light, but crispy and full of flavor. The authentic brick oven definitely adds to the flavor and texture of this. The shrimp you can the is fresh, not the frozen shrimp from over seas that you get in the supermarkets or restaurants depot, this was obviously fresh shrimp. This carried through from the topping on the pizza to the scampi that was served in an earthenware baking dish that was finished in the brick oven! The fresh potato crochets were amazingly delicious that you can tell were made from scratch and cooked perfectly. For dinner entrees, our server presented us with several delicious options for specials, so we picked a few items, some from the normal menu and the specials. We opted for the Chicken Parmesan with pasta, the pork chop, and the prime rib special. All I can say is that this place is legit! The chicken parm was obviously pan fried and not just chucked in a deep fryer like a pizzeria, the pasta that accompanied the dish was cooked perfectly; al dente. The Prime rib was delicious; I will say it was the best I ever had, hands down. I actually can't think of another prime rib that would come close. Super tender, amazing crust, cooked perfectly, and paired with some mashed potatoes and au jus! Stick a fork in me because I was done after eating 1/2 of it! Had the other half the following morning with eggs and had to take a nap after! The pork chop with the vegetables and potatoes off the regular menu is a MUST. That will be my next go-to menu item. It was super moist, tender and the vegetables were mouth watering! I highly recommend this dish. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for dessert as we were stuffed and over ate. But next time I'll keep in mind that the portion are a good size and maybe consider splitting apps and saving room for dessert. Italian Scratch Kitchen; that's what comes to mind when I reflect on our dining experience at Mossuto's! Old school cooking with modern Italian cuisine; the best of old and new! How did I not know about this place? I've been living in Belmar for about a year and passed this place on 35 a million times and never knew it was there. We went on Friday night and sat outside in the parking lot. They have benches and some high top tables set up. You order you food at the counter outside and they will bring it to your table. They also have a deli stocked with all your Italian favorited. I must say I loved their pizza. I tried the margarita and it was spectacular! Nice thin crust and cooked perfectly with a nice char. It was bursting with fresh flavors and so delicious. I can't wait to try other pizza options their menu. We also had the grilled vegetables. Nice healthy option and not boring! Great flavor and a nice variety of fresh seasonal vegetables. They also have a very nice variety of inexpensive wines to choose from. I love my vino! lol. Not only is this a great place to grab pizza but they also have live entertainment. What more could you ask for? The band was called Spare Parts and they were very entertaining. We ate our meal then danced off some calories afterwards. It was a lot of fun. I can't wait to return. read more

I can not say enough about Mossuto's Market, not just the food which is fresh and delicious, but at the graciousness of Rosella. We had a family dinner for my mother's birthday after her passing. They accepted a late reservation so we could all attend. Rosella called share her condolences and to see if any special arrangements could be made. We were allowed to pre-order appetizers and were never rushed. Thank you for everything and making our dinner a truly memorable one. read more

This place is a gem. We came for lunch... I didn't know what to expect and let me say that I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered chicken cutlet and escarole with beans. So good. The chicken cutlet was more Milanese style and was on the children's menu. (Honestly they should bring the chicken cutlet to the main menu - Oh man a chicken cutlet sandwich with arugula and fresh mozzarella. Give me.) The escarole and beans were the best I ever had. We came in we were not greeted we were not welcome we were not seated we had to go find a hostess which there was none so we had to ask a bartender if we could have a seat. This evening the owner took offense to my husband's request to have a new pork chop as it was overcooked. According to the owner (male) you can look up his name... he criticized our return and request for the medium pork chop. He said the one we had was juicy and proceeded to rip it apart in front of us to show us it was juicy (which it wasn't). I had been eating my meal and it was very good but l immediately lost my appetite when he said I'll give you the medium pork chop but I never want to see you in here again. I immediately asked the waitress to stop the replacement order and to give us our check. A few minutes later he brought over our check and said this is on me ( as if that made us feel better) and told us to never to return! He was arrogant and extremely unprofessional. I read some reviews before posting, just to make sure I wasn't just having bad luck here. And I'm not alone. These people are rude and full of themselves. A minimum of three times I've walked in to either buy from the deli, inquire about the entertainment for that night, peruse the paper menu, etc., at around 4:30 pm, when they weren't busy yet with dinner clientele. Variations of nobody will look at me, they reluctantly respond after I've been standing there, they walk away! Yesterday was the last time. Went there on a Saturday night. We were seated at a table in the bar area. My girlfriend ordered chicken parm meal. When her meal arrived at the table her chicken parm was room temp and appeared to be done way before my rigatoni. The waitress and owner stop by the table and told us they'd rectify the problem. 15 minutes later the waitress brings the plate back to the table. The chicken parm was warm, not hot and the breading was gone from the bottom of the chicken parm so the order is now Luke warm and incomplete. Waitress came over and told us she'd have a new order made. The obnoxious and rude owner also stopped by and didn't address the issue with our meal. He just kept telling us how good his food is and wasn't listening to our issues. When we repeated our issue he told us to never come back to his restaurant. His customer service is abysmal and his inflated ego prevented him from solving the problem in front of him. With out a doubt he is a very volatile person to react in this manner read more

If this review were on food alone , it could have been a 4 or a 5. Everything is delicious. I will give them that . Now here are the problems Little issues like long wait , a few flies , and almost a feeling of loneliness during lunchtime as it can be a while before you get acknowledged , but those kinds of things honestly don't bother me that much. I give this restaurant a 2 mainly because I've never met a staff so hellbent on up-selling , over charging , sneaking add ons , and doing everything in their power to turn a $40 meal into a $400 meal Maybe the taxes in such an affluent area put pressure on a restaurant to produce , and I can respect hard work and even salesmanship . Food and beverage like any other form of sales still needs to be performed with integrity , and regard for your Customers I don't need to go into detail but asking for some cheese on the side of my entree , if that means plopping an entire $20 cheese appetizer onto my plate .. that should be communicated . Multiple items on my bill were charged in this way . Single size shots of espresso charged as double espresso Single size shots of alcohol charged as double shots Side orders charged as appetizers and appetizers charged as entrees My family paid and tipped but while doing so we did express our concerns about the surprises on the bill . Instead of apologizing , instead we were given a very curt and assertive math lesson . They busted out the menu and began adding the numbers insistently . Not apologizing once which is all I was really hoping to hear . In the end rather than apologize or offer to at least cut us a break on some of the more obvious expensive add ons which we were not aware of ... the manager offered us some cookies to go. Which I declined We paid our bill in full And paid the tip in full Disappointed because with our bellies full We will never set foot in this restaurant again. This place is a hidden gem! Good vibes, delicious food, and cool staff. Great music selection, and when they have live music it's real chill. I've had the Caesar salad, fried calamari, artichoke franchise, chicken noodle soup special, eggplant parmigiana pasta, fazzolett pasta and the Linguine pasta - all so delicious. First and last time eating there. Ordered a sandwich and salad to split with co diner. Salad and sandwich 28 bucks. Specifically asked for no prosciutto in sandwich guess what it was in there. My husband and I stopped in to grab a bite to eat. We sat at the bar,the bartender was very good. We split a fatlip pizza and a salad. When it came out it was the zucca pizza. It was totally my mistake. The chef overheard my mistake and said he could make the fatlip. I said no it's my mistake, he insisted. When the bill came they only charged for one pizza and boxed up the zucca pizza for us to take home! In these times it's heartwarming to have someone go out of their way. I waited 45 minutes for an appetizer with 3 kids and over 1 hr and 15 min for a entre they recently added additional tables and don't have the kitchen to support the additional tables. First impression, ill flies. So unfortunate. The food was exquisite. The pizza is the only pizza I've had in Monmouth and Ocean County with a firm and crisp bottom. True wood burning oven. Bar was on point. Drinks were over priced for a deli/restaurant, but the bartenders skill in perfectly balanced pours is worth it. Why ? I don't appreciate being overcharged. Only table in the place on a Sunday afternoon. The waitress and management clearly took the opportunity to exploit us. I don't mind spending $30 on a salad and I appreciate good salesmanship, but their is a lack of ethics when one charges the cost of a full plate for adding a ball of burrata to a salad without mentioning a $17 charge or giving me the option to just order the dish. I ordered a double latte with double frangelico and this was a $20 drink. This was served in a 6 oz coffee cup. A shot is 1.5 ozs of liquor. A double would be 3. An espresso shot is 1-2 oz depending on the pull. A double would be at least 2. So 5oz of espresso and frangelico and 1oz of steamed milk, this was not what I got. Just give the latte and frangelico on the side instead of ripping off a patron and over charging them. A salad and a latte with frangelico was $50. That's ridiculous and I feel taken advantage of. When I mentioned it to the management she offered us cookies. What would have been better: fair, transparent service where staff is not clearly trying to milk the bill on a slow Sunday. The pizza is so good that about twice a year we forget how absolutely atrocious the service is and decide to give it another try... so I'll give it 2 stars for the biannual good pizza. But the service is so bad it's infuriating. And every time we try it again we are reminded exactly why it's been 6 months since we gave them our business. Staff is rude, inattentive, and the food always takes 50% longer than they say it will. Last night we waited 90 min to get 2 cold pizzas and 2 cold meatballs. Realizing that It's been well over a year since my last review of Mossuto's Market and the fact that it is one of our favorite restaurants at the Jersey shore I'm happy to report that the kinks have been worked out. Operations and service are now running like a well oiled machine. Their food has never been in question and they continue to serve some of the best Italian dishes at the shore area dining scene. Their pork chop milanese with arugula is the bomb. It's about the size of Pittsburgh and that leafy green forest of arugula on top is sublime. As far as the bar and the staff in a word "perfect" you don't get any better at the shore. If you are into wine, some very nice southern Italian wines can be had for prices around $20 a bottle, which is a bargain. If you like your beer - try a Peroni or Moretti Italian beers both on tap and ready for the guzzling. Bottom Line: Go here and our favorite will become one of yours too. read more

Host ignored us for a good 10 mins when we showed up, and although there were empty tables, we were told we could only be seated in the front of the market and not the dining room. My guess is that it was because I had two kids in tow. We were seated with the only other party containing kids. Basically I. The front door way of the store. Our waitress was amazingly sweet and helpful, I was eating alone w my two kids and she did a great job dealing with us. I felt bad for her as she was having to explain the "rules" of the restaurant which is what prompted me to write this. I tried to order a pizza for the kids who obviously never want to eat the same thing. I asked for half with pepperoni and half with meatballs peppers and onions. I was informed that they cannot do that regardless if I was willing to pay for it as if it was on the whole pie. Finally I convinced my kids to get meatballs pepperoni onions and peppers on the whole pie. The waitress then returned to say that they were training a new pizza guy and as such had to stick to the rules. 3 toppings only are "allowed" on a pie and cheese counts as a topping!?!?!? So we ordered a pepperoni only pizza. So there were all of 6 pepperoni slices on the pie. The food was mediocre and I'd highly recommend that you keep on driving instead of turning in. Hopefully the waitress we had moves on to a better restaurant, she was so much better than this place read more

Review from a takeout perspective - solid experience. I came in starving on a Sunday around 2pm (one hour before they close). The place is much bigger than it looks from the outside, so I probably looked like a deer in headlights at first. After making my way past the market/grocery section, the man behind the deli counter greeted me immediately and fetched another worker to fulfill my order for the Scarpa sandwich. I was planning on eating it there but he didn't ask me whether I wanted it for there or to-go, so my sandwich was delivered to me wrapped and ready to take home. Not a deal breaker but I would have appreciated the option to eat at the little bar area so I could scope the place out more. The sandwich itself was packed with fresh ingredients - turkey, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, fresh lettuce and tomato and EVOO. I could have sworn I tasted a hint of pesto in there somewhere although it wasn't in the description. My only issue with the sandwich was that the bread could have been fresher - and we all know that fresh bread goes a LONG way in the sandwich world. It tasted like it had been sitting for awhile and was even a little tough/chewy on the ends. Maybe that's what happens when you decide to eat lunch at 2pm on a Sunday at a place that closes at 3pm ;) For now I'm giving this 3 stars, but open to adjusting my review once I've eaten in and have a couple more visits under my now-growing belt...haha read more

I have eaten pizza all over the world with toppings as diverse as ham and pineapple to pancetta and zuccinini and have enjoyed them all. Coming from Brooklyn, NY, literally weaned on pizza, knishes and bagels, I recently had the priveledge of having lunch with Biagio (Benny) Schiano at his studio of culinary delights, located at Mossuto's Salumeria (Deli) in Wall, NJ. At Mossuto's I was introduced to Benny's Artisanal Brick Oven Pizza and my understanding of how this peasant bread has evolved. Biagio explains in great detail how he creates his famous home-cured pancetta and those delicious artisanal pies. About a month ago I had the most horrific experience at this establishment. It was my friends favorite restaurant and we decided to take her out the day before her wedding. We have been coming here forever! We waited over 1 hour and 20 minutes for our order to be taken only for our food to come out incorrectly. The waitress acted like it was our fault and argued with us and stomped off. The hostess was a sheep and never addressed the issue with the appetizer or waitress. The chef/owner came out and told us that we were in the wrong restaurant and to leave. Stay far away from this place. I have never in my life had anything like this happen. Disgusting. This has been my favorite restaurant for over a decade. I have lived across the states and every time I come home this is my first stop. The day before my wedding my best friends took me to dinner here. Aside from the fact that we waited over an hour and a half for our appetizer, when our order came out wrong our waitress argued with us for about 2 minutes that it was our fault. Please keep in mind the restaurant was not busy, as it never is anymore. I ordered a large dinner salad and when my food came out it was so teeny on a half size plate - I inquired and asked the waitress if this was a side salad...the hostess came over and then the chef/owner came over and asked the hostess what the issue was...the hostess respond immediately that I was complaining about my salad. The owner then responded that I came to the wrong restaurant and to never come back. I have never in my life been treated this way at any establishment let alone my favorite restaurant. This place is clearly struggling for business and I can understand why. I will never step foot in in this place again and I advise to stay away - unfortunately this place isn't what it once was. read more

I have no problem paying good money for a good meal but this one was a disaster. Ordered the lentil soup for an appetizer and it had rosemary drowning in it. The pungent over bearing taste of rosemary ruined the soup. Never in my life had rosemary in a soup. My dad got the spinach and onion appetizer which had no onion and the spinach was not fresh and wilting. They did give us bread and butter and when we asked for olive oil for our bread they informed us it was an extra $5 for the small dish of oil which not even good oil to begin with. If you go I suggest you bring your own. I ordered the crab stuffed flounder and the crab was not fresh and definitely out of a can. My wife had the salmon which she did say it was good. My suggestion is if you go here just order the pizza and stay away from the entrees. Dinner ended up costing about $240 for the four of us with drinks and they couldn't give us olive oil.... seriously . I will not be going back. read more

Best Italian food around. Great menu, interesting specials which include seasonal vegetables. They have improved over the last few years. The wine list is less expensive, but extremely well curated. I've had several bottles I've never seen anywhere else - reasonably priced and delicious. The food continually evolves and improves, making the place interesting to go to regularly. In the past, I thought they used too much salt, but that problem is gone. Service is excellent, friendly, but efficient. They hold onto staff, which makes sense, as the owner and manager could not be more gracious. Everyone working there is very nice. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside ambiance is excellent, with tall ceilings, big skylights, interesting things and people to watch. If you want a relatively inexpensive meal, the pizzas are individual size and cooked quickly in their wood fired brick oven. The specials can be expensive, but you get what you pay for. The pizza man is out in the open, which is entertaining to watch, especially if you bring kids. The bar is usually full of mature, friendly locals. Check out their deli area - best aged beef and wonderful deli food. Top notch bread, pasta, cheeses, etc. Note: Not a pile it high, sell it cheap and take home a doggy bag place. There are places in Manasquan that serve disgusting "Italian" food in gigantic portions, if that's what you're looking for. These folks really are Italian. read more
