Then came the artichoke Francese and I'm not exaggerating when I say it might be the best I've ever had. Perfect amount of lemony buttery sauce and yes we asked for extra on the side because that bread deserved a dip situation. For mains we did the chicken marsala and the chicken special and both were exactly what you want from an old school Italian spot. Comforting. Rich. No notes. My husband and I had a great dinner there on Saturday night. We walked in and got seats right at the bar. VERY attentive bartenders greeted us immediately, offered suggested speciality drinks and never had to track him/her down for a refill. My wife and I ate here for the second time and it was as fantastic as our first! First time was on a Friday just making happy hour and with a band playing. Packed at 530p! Went Back to Fratellos! Saturday 6pm . Reserved a high top. Place was packed and happening. Totally different than my first time here. Everything, and I mean everything was awesome. Food , drinks, service. All great on this busy st Patrick's day weekend. Had the lasagna and meatballs. The best. Did a comparison of all the lasagnas I've had all over the shore area and this is clearly the best. The bread is even great, warm, crunchy. Wife had linguine with clams and said it was great, better than other places she has had it. You could smell it from 3 feet away. Great blend of flavors and they use the tiny clams that are better tasting and softer. Limoncello martini was awesome and strong and bonus, this time they fill the glass to overflowing and pour the remainder of the shaker in a separate glass, bonus!! Fratellos made me a believer and we are hoping to make this a regular place in the future. read more

I've been here many times, so I know the place to have good food and great ambience. We always sit at the bar and love it. Unfortunately, the bartender was awful and the service was so disappointing. She was only interested in getting our order in and not us. When we asked her to check about taking mushrooms out of the dish, she showed her annoyance with us. We ordered a bottle of wine which took her 10 minutes to bring and then she sat it in front of us without opening. We were confused and finally asked if she could open it. Our food came out from a waitress. Basically, threw it in front of us. The bartender never once asked how everything was or cared if we were enjoying anything and btw, we did enjoy everything. Delicious! Food is great! When we were finished, she never asked if we would like anything else. We would have liked coffee and dessert, but she obviously didn't like being at work, so we didn't want to bother her to ask. Real nice bar, with an old bar feel, you can tell the most of people are all regulars. We sat at a booth and had apps and dinner on a Friday night the place was full but not crowded. The food was good, not knock your socks off good, but certainly worth the price. They have a sheet of specials and the prices were extremely well priced. The bottle of wine we ordered was only 50% more than I pay in the store, so to me quite reasonable. I will return just to sit at the bar and hang with the locals. read more

Fratello's is a little gem just outside the gate from New Jersey National Guard's Sea Girt training post and beach. It's the perfect summertime spot for alfresco dining. Hostess seated me without a reservation, and the outdoor dining area was busy close to the summer sunset on a Monday night. Recommend the escarole sautéed with red wine vinegar, garlic, red bell pepper strips, and capers. Rare that I find this item, and moreover well prepared, however this is a true Italian style side, suitable for sharing. Caesar Salad is fresh, well prepared. Ask for fresh cracked pepper! My server tried to mill the pepper with some difficulty. Finally she left the pepper mill at the table, which required only an adjustment to the screw for the pepper to flow nicely. Tonight I had crab stuffed scallops in a delicately seasoned cream sauce, with a potato croquette. Definitely will return to Fratello's on another trip to the beach. read more

My husband and I saw a promo for rest. week on news 12. While it's a great deal, I was more interested in the fact that it's a long running family business with a really nice menu. As always; excellent service. Came in for the Monday surf and turf (only one dollar more from last year!). Unfortunately something went wrong in the kitchen.. we each got lobster tail and one with filet mignon and one with sirloin. Both lobster tails were mush and ammonia. The filet was supposed to be medium but came out raw inside. Didn't want to send that back after sending back both tails..It's a class operation so we'll be back but hopefully just a bad night in the kitchen... read more

I loved everything about this restaurant. The atmosphere is great and the food even better! I had oysters the were so fresh and delicious. Then I had their seafood pasta special, it was so delicious! Loaded with scallops, shrimp and calamari, sun dried tomatoes in a pink sauce and pasta. My husband had the fried calamari and a veal dish, also top notch. We then shared a Tiramisu, it was light and not overly sweet, soooo good. Our waitress was as sweet as could be. Had plenty of leftover for tomorrow and a nice walk on the boardwalk to walk it off! Food was tasty and well prepared. Service was attentive. Note the front is a bar with live music on Fridays and the back has a small area for fine dining. At first, I thought it was an odd mix, but it actually ended up being nice because you can only hear the people at the table that you were with. One of the waiters took them away and grabbed my dinner order (after being virtually ignored for 15 minutes). Stupidly, I got the chicken francaise thinking "you really cannot mess this up." Came out soggy and soaked in a watery butter liquid. I mean look at the pool of literal water it was served in. We would go here 3-4 times a year Last time we went was for restaurant week. I always get the Seafood Della Casa. Sautéed 4 oz brazilian lobster tail, sea scallops, shrimp, crabmeat, sun dried tomatoes, prosciutto, shiitake mushrooms, green peas, tossed with paccheri pasta with cognac pink cream sauce (paccheri pasta ~ tubular rigatoni pasta). Well, it came with a SINGLE shrimp and no scallops. I mentioned this to the waitress, and she mentioned it to Joe the bartender. Everyone loves Joe. Since we already paid he said come back this week and he would take care of us. I wasn't looking for a comp, I just wanted what was advertised. We came back I ordered the same thing and again it came with a single shrimp and bay scallops this time. I complained. The waitress said there's nothing they can do. The owner or manger, whoever the prick was sitting by the door , told us oh well that's the way the chef prepared it. A seafood dish with one shrimp? Unbelievable. read more

Had dinner here last night. I'm happy to say that our experience last nite was so much better than the last time we tried. Though it wasn't crowded, which may be why this time our reservation was honored. We reserved a table. But we like to sit at the bar, and being there were bar seats available, we sat there. Bartenders were a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry, so no biggie. The food was VERY good. Oysters were a bit small, but the breading and lemon butter sauce tasted good. My veal Caruso was nice. And the Rigatoni Barisi was tasty. A guitarist was playing on stage which was a pleasant soft addition at the perfect sound level- not loud. I'm glad we gave it another try. To be honest this was more than disappointing. I ordered the ceasar with steak and my steak was overcooked, but my friend ordered the STEAK period and hers was even more overdone and had to be taken back it was so well done. They didn't even take a dollar off of her $40 entree for the extra wait that she had to make while all her friends ate so their food didn't get cold. On top of that, there was a stray spaghetti noodle in my friends penne which leads me to believe that this kitchen is just as disorganized as it seems . I really wanted to like this place, it looked very promising when we walked in. There is plenty of street parking, a small outdoor patio, a nice size bar when you enter, lots of nice wood paneling everywhere and overall a lively atmosphere. But after our initial impression everything else fell flat. We made a reservation and really glad we did because it was extremely busy on a Friday night. We walked up to the hostess and let her know we had a reservation and she looked a little frazzled. She said she had to get our table ready and disappeared into the back for probably ten minutes. While we were standing around we noticed the majority of other patrons there were probably 70 years old and older. Eh, no big deal it was only 7:30pm so didn't think much of it. We were seated in the back area away from the bar. The wood paneling we admired was only in the front area. The back area had lots of photos and artwork on the walls and was small but cozy. Our waitress was friendly enough but clearly spread thin. Food was nothing to write home about. The dessert menu is a tray of all of their offerings. Definitely my favorite part of dinner. When it was time to pay the bill I checked in on Yelp to get the discount. This got the managers attention and he came over to talk to us. As we were walking out an older gentleman walked by looking for his waitress to get a coffee. She gave him such a nasty attitude although he was really being nice. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall not a bad meal but I honestly thought we were eating in the middle of a retirement community. I actually made my husband drive around the area.
