Nice small nursery on the corner lot . Very limited street parking and a little lot that fits about four car in the parking space zone next to the nursery. When about February and they have very limited plant and very limited parts. The store was tiny and they have very small desk size plant inside nothing very big like a house plant. Cute little store for a Neighbourhood stroll away from the home to go and gaze up plants. They're so clean and it was organized inside. However, some other plants are a bit pricey because they're a very small sore.. They have a good amount of different parts outside. I think the summer with the warm weather coming up, they would have more yard decorations on display outside plus more plants. read more

I will say originally I wasn't sure where to park but there is a lot of street parking, so you can take your pick of which direction you want to go in regards to that. It is at a busier cross section so be sure to watch before you cross! I wanted to make a pit stop to check out Mother Earth Gardens, what started as a quick stop, has me excited to come back again when I have more time! I wasn't expecting the community collaboration that showcased local vendors and information about them which I loved dearly. The plants were placed in a manner that was fun to browse and find, and the pricing was fair. What made me really see this place stand out was the service I received from start to finish. I was warmly greeted, the door was opened for me and I was asked right away if there was anything I needed help with. In addition, they included that any question is welcomed and not to be afraid to ask. No matter if you're a beginner or an expert in the plant community, there's so much to learn and feeling the welcoming environment made it so much more enjoyable to browse and shop. I cannot recommend Mother Earth Gardens; in fact, my advice is to shop anywhere other than this place for your garden plants and accessories. If you do decide to shop at this inferior "garden center", beware of their sneaky unposted no-return or exchange policy. I found out the hard way when I purchased three small accent plants to go with a larger dark blue flowered plant in a pot. Upon getting home with the accent plants, I realised that the color combination would not work. So, within 24 hours, I returned to Mother Earth Gardens to either return the three small plants or exchange them for something that would work much better for my situation. After explaining my situation to the teller, she said that they do not accept returns. I asked her where that policy was posted on the premises, and she replied that their no-return policy is in the fine print at the bottom of the sales receipt. I said that is not acceptable, as the customer has no idea of their no-return policy until after the sale. She then went and got the manager, who was extremely dismissive of my explanation of my situation with the plants, condescending of my explaining that if they have a no-return or no-exchange policy, it should be prominently displayed at the checkout registers so that customers know that in advance of their purchases. She cared not one bit about any of it and was outright rude to me. In all of my years, I have never once had an encounter with such a dismissive and arrogant retail manager. I asked her if she was the manager or the owner, and she wouldn't answer. She did say, however: "We're done here, do you want to take your plants with you, or leave them here?" and then ordered me off the premises. So I picked up the plants and left. That manager/owner is one of the most unlikable people I have ever met. Maybe she was having a bad day, but that is no excuse for her horrible demeanor and attitude. If that is her everyday personality, though, she is just a miserable person. Regardless, Mother Earth Garden Center will never get another penny from me. There are many garden centers in the Twin Cities area that are better stocked with higher-quality plants and accessories at fairer prices. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. read more

I had called the other Mother Earth Gardens to see if they had charcoal which they did not, but they told me the other Mother Earth Gardens did have it in stock and recommended I visit them. I had been there before and like it enough, it's just further than the other location. I appreciate the outside space they have, although visiting in the winter, there wasn't much outside which is totally understandable. The staff were kind enough, asking if I needed anything. I did find some of the prices a bit steep but not for everything so can't complain. They have lots of goodies besides plants also as well as lots of goodies from small businesses! They also had a couple cats roaming around, very well behaved. And a sweet in memory of poster for what seemed to be a previous cat who resided there. Will return when in the area. read more

One of the staff members here spoke to me as though I was the stupidest person she had ever met when I dared to interact with her. I didn't even ask for much help or ask any complicated questions. First I asked if they sold a tarp, and in an exasperated baby voice she told me all about the different hardware stores that exist. Like, sorry for checking a local business first, just in case? Then she spoke to me in the same way when I asked about the easiest way to get heavy items to my car because my wagon didn't steer well and I was parked across the street. Not a single complaint. Great selection, staff that goes above and beyond and are very knowledgeable, and everybody was wearing their mask. They sold me a peach tree in the spring that unfortunately didn't make it. They not only refunded me for the plant, but looked at the dead tree and gave me some idea's about why it may not have thrived. They earned my future business. I've waited a long time to write this review. After my 4th negative experience here, I caved. I have yet to have a positive experience with someone who works here. Maybe it's the times I go (Sunday afternoons?) or perhaps it's just that our personalities don't gel. I've found many of their staff, one woman in particular, to be condescending at best and flat-out rude (awkwardly and audibly so) at worst. I left without buying anything today after I was lectured about whether or not I needed to protect a rose plant I have in my yard, and whether or not i could over-winter a potted tree in an unheated green house. All advice was unsolicited and rudely delivered. It was so awkward I left and my partner, hearing the conversation take place, scuttled to the car to avoid the situation. I walked in today wide-eyed and totally confused about what I needed for my garden, and I walked out, with the help of two awesomely knowledgeable employees, with a gorgeous array of plants and veggie seeds. I'm freakishly committed to planting native-Minnesota plants, and Mother Earth Gardens had exactly what I was looking for. They knew what would work in my soil, gave me tips on how to give my new plants the best chances for surviving my less-than-ideal soil and light conditions, and took the time to make sure I got the combination of plants that I was looking for. This is a pleasant little garden center in our neighborhood. The help are always friendly. Some are knowledgeable. The problem is, Mother Earth Gardens is the most disorganized private business I have ever experienced. Even at the peak of the season they only have 1 or 2 tills going. People line up like sheep to pay for whatever they want to buy. There is no sense of urgency. At the peak of the season, they are often out of stock, either due to lack of anticipation or just general disorganization. Browsing through the reasonably priced herbs and flowers motivated me to start my own herb garden. At least a buck fifty less than Sunnyside for these well-started herbs. Since learning of MEG several years ago I have become a regular customer. With the info that neonics (chemicals used in most large greenhouses and garden centers) are contributing to the decrease in the bee population I have shifted my plant purchase to organic growers. Staff are friendly and helpful. I know someone complained about slow checkouts but this is a small business and when everyone shows up at the start of the growing season it may take a few minutes to check out. Live with it. If you hate lines don't come at peak times - not really rocket science. The best part is that MEG has varieties of plants that you won't see at other places. I never saw lemongrass at any of the hardware store garden centers, but MEG has it. Native species for plantings that don't need as much watering - MEG. This is a GREAT ecoearthy gift store and a MEDIOCRE garden center. We are repeatedly happy to be able to stop here for a last-minute gift on our way to a housewarming party or somesuch. They've gotten their act together recently (new owners, no?) in terms of stocking and organization, but the spectacular lack of low-end goods puts the whole shop into question. What's the point of being an environmentally conscious shop if you only cater to those who think the best and the most complicated is the way to go? I know I'm in the minority here but I think the quality of service/customer service has drastically gone down hill. Thirteen years ago when I moved into the Longfellow area it was a great store with people who cared. I counted myself lucky to have such a great local business with fun, knowledgeable people with unique inventory. Unfortunately in the last five/six years I've found the customer service to be hit or miss and most often lacking. Employee's are either to busy to or just don't care about their customers. Miscommunications among employees and lack of integrity on what they promise is what I find at Mother Earth, so I'll go to a hardware store on Lake St. that has a decent garden center, it's not as cute or unique but at least I feel welcomed and can count on what they say. read more

Awesome greenhouse to have in the neighborhood! Came here for the first time recently and have been back a few times as they've been getting more inventory for the spring/summer. They have such a great selection of herbs/vegetables and a great variety of house plants as well. Good for finding anything from small succulents to giant elephant ear plants! The staff is wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable. We asked about a random plant in the corner and the girl helping us knew the answers to our questions right away. This is a GREAT garden center. Came here quite late in the season to get some starter vegetable plants as we had just gotten into a community garden and it was too late to start most things from seed. We did get some flower seeds though, as well as the starter plants. Products: Wide variety of gardening products, seemed to have everything someone would need for gardening. As I said, it was late in the season but there was still a very vast variety of starter plants and seeds, particularly pleasing to me was that they had tons of good heirloom and organic varieties. If you are looking for these, this is the place to go. I guess one might guess this from the name though. The plants were reasonably priced. If you are really looking to save money though, check around. I found some of the same plants (from the same place) at the Wedge Co-op for a bit cheaper. However, one must remember that plants that are indoors (like the ones at the Wedge) will need to be hardened off more; so it really depends on what you want or need. Also, some garden implements can be bought at hardware stores for cheaper, such as tomato cages. Service: Staff is VERY nice. They are approachable, knowledgeable, and don't make you feel stupid if you are not a gardening expert. They even let us take the plant carriers home with us and said to just bring them back when we bring our plastic pots back - oh yea, they have a plastic pot recycling program where you can bring the plastic pots that the plants come in back to the garden center - they also have plants that come in compostable containers as well! read more

I live in the northern suburbs. We have a few nurseries in the area, but they arent SPECIAL. They also do not have any native plants, everything is a cultivar. This place is incredible and definitely worth the drive. I found the staff to be helpful and genuinely nice. Since the atmosphere is kind of boutiquey, I figured that they would be spendier than other nurseries- nope! I walked out the door paying $50 less than my quick mental calculations. I really enjoyed filling up my blue wagon with natives (some of which are hard to find) and organic tomatoes! read more
