Might be the best chicken tenders I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The fries were also well done and very tasty. They were unsalted though so ask for salt and pepper. It's a dive bar. No other way to phrase it. However, it has a good location and the service was fast. We sat on the small patio to enjoy the nice weather. The music on the patio was too loud for my taste and I wish they did not allow smoking on the patio. Inside they had pool tables and a lot of TVs. Restrooms were kinda gross (one toilet was leaking) but at least they were available. As long as you know what you're getting into here I think it's a safe bet. Didn't sample the food. read more

This is our second visit and it was just as great as the first time. It is an awesome game day spot! It gets PACKED quickly so if you plan to go watch your favorite team play, arrive EARLY! The staff is AWESOME and they're very attentive even though they're very, very busy. They have a fully stocked bar with lots of variety/options. The absolute worst bar service I've had in this city. I use to frequent this bar years ago when ever I would come to Chi town and I don't know if I have bartender repellent on me these days but it should not be that hard to get a couple of beers at a BAR! I kept an empty glass pretty much the whole time I was there. Clyde was pretty cool, he's the only one that got me drinks so I pretty much had to wait until he was around for me to get one, it was pretty sad considering there were two other bartenders. The tall lady never even looked at me in the face the whole time I was there, I mean, it was literally as if I did not exist. That sucks. I'm here. I literally have to beg the bar tenders for service because they were busy laughing and getting their friends drinks. How are you going to ask the person to my left if they're all right, then past me up and ask the person to my right if they're good and I have an empty glass sitting in front right of me. Mother Hubbard needs to go back to the cupboard cause this old dog needs a drink. Bartenders, please check on everyone at the bar that's your job and that's how you get tips. We came here while on vacation to catch a Bear's game between activities. We ordered a pitcher of beer and were generally enjoying the atmosphere. We were about to order some food and I decided to use bathroom first. I noticed one of the male servers (big, muscular guy, Mich ballcap) after relieving himself in the stall, exited without washing hands. I exited just behind him and noticed he went directly into helping patrons. This guy was bringing orders from the kitchen to the tables. Needless to say, we didn't order food. It's wasn't a one-time event either. Next time I was in was in the restroom, again he didn't wash hands. read more

I was in Chicago for a business trip, and made sure my flight landed well before Super Bowl on Feb 2nd. Mother Hubbard's was a quick short walk from my hotel, and I used my mobile Yelp app to guide me the way to a close location to watch the game. First, the atmosphere was great, yes it was Super Bowl Sunday, but I was lucky enough to find a seat at the bar before the big crowd arrived, to watch the game, have a drink or two, have dinner, and meet new people. The game was great, and glad I was part of the crowd at Mother Hubbard's. Like I shared earlier, my hotel was very close, so my routine for the week, was to swing by for a beer or two, and have dinner. Over the course of four nights, I had the "Pterodactyl Size" wings, twice, the full slab of BBQ ribs, and the 1886 burger. All were great. The service was top notch, and Mother Hubbard's is a great place to drop in for a beverage, and a meal, watch a game or two, or three, and sit back and relax. We came up from California for business. This place has a good vibe. The bartenders were awesome. They catered to us all night. (Chips and salsa were kinda wack, not gonna lie.) My wife and two children enjoyed our visit and really had no complaints until I looked at the receipt later in the day. There was a service charge for 20% included (about $19)?? We assumed this was some Chicago billing piece in common across restaurants...although seemed quite high. I had also tipped 25% not realizing there was a service charge already included. Device was handed to me and was at the tip screen so signed and did touch the send me receipt option. The next day we went next door to Theory and incurred no such charge. The waitress was surprised when told her of the 20% next door. She said that was a tip charge and surely went to the waitress. Why did a group of 4 automatically get charged 20%? Problem was bouncers (and nasty other individuals who seemed to be affiliated with each other) being absolutely rude and crass (and seemed underage, at least in maturity level) in and in front of the establishment and yelling at us while trying to catch an Uber. Extremely rude, inappropriate for the situation, and embarrassing. Won't go back or I'll catch a charge. Hoes abound. I would highly caution any female over the age of 22 from coming here, unless they enjoy being called fat or ugly (by ugly chicks, nonetheless). I can't believe I haven't been here before! I came out with a couple guy friends who wanted to watch the game and shoot a little pool. Now, normally, this isn't my type of vibe, but the drinks are really strong and the bartenders are so funny! The best part for me was the mix of different groups of people. Old, young, wealthy, on a budget. Everyone is here to have a good time and their all so friendly. It would have been only a 3 or 4 star rating from me, but then I had the cualiflower pizza. Very cute late night place! While they don't have hummus on the menu, they have a variety of fried fare. My friends were famished by the time we found this place! If you are staying near downtown Chicago and are looking for a late night bite. This bar is open till 4 AM even on weekdays so they serve food late as well. We ended up going to dinner around 10 PM And so many restaurants were already closed or if they were open, they were only serving drinks. We got a pizza that was a reasonable size and came out fairly quickly. The servers were all friendly and provided quick service. I loved this dive bar. We stopped in about 11pm after a show and the bar was hopping. A good mix of younger and older patrons (we fall in between.) The bartenders were attentive and the security was tight; rightfully so as there was one person in particular who did not need to imbibe further and was in fact asked to leave, politely. Mother Hubbard was also very packed, and they set up a tablecloth on the pool table in the back for us. There are a lot of TV's inside, and all of them were showing the basketball game, which was great. I enjoyed the chill, comfortable environment where we could drink and cheer for our team. I didn't have high expectations for their food, but the beef burrito was surprisingly delicious--smothered in sauce, it was flavorful and not dry or overcooked. My only complaint was the service. This bar was so welcoming on a cold Chicago night. When we arrived to our hotel it was around midnight. We were hungry so we went looking for a bar to grab a bite to eat. We happened upon Mother Hubbard's! What a welcome sight! As soon as we walked in I knew that I would love this bar. They had all the things I love about bars....good draft beer selection, cool bartenders, food, plenty of TV's, and pool tables. We ordered a burger and some cheese fries! The food hit the spot but what really made this bar such a great place for us were the really friendly bartenders. Both bartenders working that night were friendly offering us food recommendations and even giving us free towels. I will definitely be back here next time I'm in town. Like my bestie, Steve I. Said in his review, we arrived around midnight on a cold Chicago evening over thanksgiving break. And this was a welcome site when we were tired, hungry and wanted to explore a little! We yelped nearby bars and this was the closest one to our hotel, Renaissance. We walked into a fun neighborhood bar with lots of beers on draft, friendly people and tasty food! My bestie and I shared a burger and cheese fries which were tasty. And our friend ordered a pizza to bring back to the hotel room. They enjoyed the draft beer and I liked their cider! The reason why I gave them the extra star was because the staff were so nice! I stuck up a conversation with one of the bartenders and told him how I lasted 3 winters living in Chicago but that I love that town and try to visit my girlfriends there every few years. I happened into Mother Hubbard's on a Sunday and was pleased to find an exuberant and welcoming staff that sat us immediately. They changed the TV nearest to us to our NFL game (Denver Broncos) and mentioned all the specials. We enjoyed wings, the sausage burger and fries. Stopped by for Game 3 of the NBA finals because one of my friends had came for Game 1 and said it was a lot of fun. I ordered wings, which came with 6, half bbq and half buffalo, basket of fries ($5.25), and an angry orchard ($7). For the amount you pay, you're definitely getting a good amount of food! It's a sports bar, so nothing fancy, but the service is definitely on point and all the employees that I encountered were super kind! There are tvs all around the bar and they'll have most of the games going on playing. However, I will say that the tvs that the NBA game was playing on were kind of blurry. I'm not sure if it just wasn't an HD channel, but compared to the other games that were playing, it just wasn't as clear. read more
