X MARKS THE SPOT Come by and cross this spot off your bar list. It has a retro feel and sits quiet and quaint right off the street. On a Saturday it was not busy. I don't know if it is normally this empty. Your voice will carry even with the low music playing. So you really do have to speak easy for discreet conversations. There were 2 bartenders and twice as many patrons. A tall bartender with an accent was kind of smug and not very friendly. Yes, you are still in the customer service industry, especially if it's not busy. The shorter bartender was just the opposite and personable and chatted with me. Ironically, the mocktail was made by the tall bartender and it tasted good. The drink was fairly cheap ($6) which is really cheap. The drink wasn't fancy or anything that popped, but it was a sweet beverage that was not overly sweetened and was refreshing. The drink was simple like the era this speakeasy represents, the charm of post-war times in the 1920's. This place give local watering-hole of cocktail bars vibe, but also has a romantic aspect to bring your date. So come get cozy and enjoy a cocktail if you're in the area.

The loop is usually such a dud spot for happy hours but club x speakeasy is truly a hidden gem in this area! The vibe is absolutely incredible with the decor making you feel like you're sitting in your cool friends living room. Really great HH deals as well - we really enjoyed the marinated olives and fries platters.

Nice little hidden gem. You wouldn't know it was even here. It was a Monday night and had been raining, so it was essentially empty but the bartender was nice and they had interesting drinks. The pic is a drink my daughter ordered that had a hibiscus foam on top.

Earlier this week, a work colleague and I discovered what is being described as a "hidden gem." We loved it so much that I took my wife there 3 nights later. She also loved it. Here is the problem: If Club X keeps getting 5 star ratings, it might stop being a hidden gem. There might be more really loud conventioneers crowding the entryway like there was for the 1st 30 minutes my colleague and I were there. They looked out of place but hopefully they eventually found their way to Rush Street. I thought about submitting a one star review, not mentioning the intimate atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, delicious drinks, and yummy sliders. But, others also need to discover this "hidden gem!"

I checked out this "speakeasy" bar right after their weekday happy hour. Sorry to have missed it. They have pretty standard happy hour specials except for the fried chicken and champagne which is interesting. The ambiance of the place was cool. Had that dark and intimate vibe of a nice cocktail bar. Would be a great place for a drink before or after dinner. I am docking a star since it is not actually a speakeasy. It has a regular entrance off of Wabash. You could enter through Exchequer and that has more of a speakeasy feel since you have to walk through a wall with a pic on it. They also have a DJ area set up to play records. Hope to check this place out again on a weekend evening.

This new "speakeasy" supposedly revives a space that was a real prohibition spot in the 1920s. It's connected to Exchequer, and there's a street entrance as well so not a secret knock spot, but the vibe is cool--red velvet benches. Bartenders friendly. The cocktail list is all it's own and not the same drinks as in Exchequer (though if you order food from the small menu it comes from their kitchen). The place is new and when we were there part, the cup-washer-thing on the bar (what is that thing called?) suddenly broke and exploded and water was pouring everywhere across the bar and the poor bartenders couldn't stop it. yikes! took like 5 minutes to turn the pipe off... anyway, things got soaked, but staff were friendly and folks helped they comped our drinks which they didn't have to do but was of them. wound up getting food at exchequer. Willing to stop back in here!

This was a cute little speakeasy we found randomly in Chicago. It was dark and just felt like a speakeasy. I would go back and recommend to anyone. The service was good. Not too busy so we got our drink quick. We did not eat here but from the looks of other tables the food was like pizza, burgers and bar food.

This isn't a bad bar. It is not a good speakeasy though. The drinks although well made aren't inventive or ground breaking. When a bar calls itself a speakeasy I expect to be wowed, amazed, impressed. I think of some of the greats like Violet Hour and Please Don't tell. One of the things working against this place as a speakeasy is a sign outside the bar saying "Club X speakeasy". It should be a subtle nod like a light or some kind of secret entrance. Ordered an Old Fashioned and Negroni which were both decent. The furniture+ bar design looks nice. Again though they missed the chance to dim the lights and set up what could have been a definite speakeasy vibe.

An interesting place for sure and would probably put it at 3.5 if I could. I definitely would not call this a "speakeasy". The entrance gave the vibes but once you walk into the main bar area it's just more like a regular bar or lounge, and a poorly decorated one at that. Looking around it seemed like it could have been a fast food restaurant or a Denny's prior. The ceiling is white, lighting terrible and bright. When I think of a classic speakeasy I think dark, cozy, moody. This is not that. There weren't that many people around 9 ish on a rainy Saturday night and we didn't have trouble finding two seats at the bar. The saving grace was the cocktail I ordered... it was on their online menu but not the printed one there. I asked about it and thankfully they were able to make it. Sounds crazy but it was a banana espresso martini. The bartender explained that they infuse their own spirits, this one with bananas and rum. The bartender was also very skilled. There were two of them and they were both hustling. But as a result, service wasn't particularly fast or attentive.

Chill little bar with great vintage vibes, with velvet banquette benches, retro landline phones, and vintage art. We had a couple of drinks from the specialty drink menu and some food from the small snack menu. The drinks and food were all good. Staff were friendly and helpful. They have some merch, a few hats, to pick from. They also have branded matchbooks which I love. I wouldn't call it a speakeasy as there's a front door right from the street that you can walk in and there's street view windows, nothing hidden about it, but it's a great little bar worth the visit.

Sexy and eclectic a place where your mind can wonder from reality to fantasy with the open to interpretation art and there sex in the city bar tender Rob the service is great and this place has you craving more. The ambience is simple sleek and a bit of 50 shades of lust. Great place to engage with a date or to meet other chi town individuals. Tasty drinks that make your taste buds "POP" like the bee's knees cocktail. Definitely a place to check out!

We originally swung by on a Friday night, but it was far too loud and bustling. Given the nice 1940s or 50s decor, adding some acoustic art panels would make a huge difference in cutting down the noise. Every time we passed by afterward, it always looked packed. However, we finally got a chance to experience it properly last night, and it did not disappoint. The smoke tomato pizetta, nuts and olives, daiquiri, cafe martino, and service were all fantastic!

I had been enjoying the city after a day of shopping and dinner at Joe's. A friend recommended this lovely bar/lounge. We are not from these parts of the U.S. and love to explore. This lounge is on the second floor of the Chicago Athletic Association building. Part of the Hyatt chain. I was warmly greeted by host and placed next to an old fireplace in front of the bar area. I was seated facing the entire lobby. I was enjoying the Gothic architecture. It was dark and a soothing atmosphere. I appreciated the appropriate music playing as well. It was a perfect way to end my day. I had a glass of champagne and my server recommended the Basque cheesecake. Which was perfect cause I recently visited San Sebastian, Spain. The Basque region makes a great cheesecake. The burned caramelized top complimented my champagne well. There is a room/bar in the back room of where I was. A great bar with games and TVs for sports. After enjoying my nightcap, I walked downstairs and was able to order a ride-share and wait in the warm entry of the building. This hotel is directly across the famous Bean which is in the beautiful Millennium Park. During the day, I highly recommend checking that park out.

Came in today with a group of eight friends over an hour after cocktail lounge opened (slower…read morehours). I'll begin by mentioning the drinks tasted great & the ambiance/overall esthetic and setup of this space is really wonderful. Unfortunately, my low review is because of the obvious distastefulness of some staff who are serving & bartending here. My guests visiting from out of state wanted a stiff drink in the afternoon & from the website photos + reviews, Vol 39 seemed like an awesome place that could accommodate our party with the large sofa seating. I even called ahead to ask about walk-ins of our size to be extra considerate. We received shocking dagger glares from a few staff members which made all eight of us immediately uncomfortable before even being sat. Like we were committing a major crime for thinking we could step foot in here. Empty stack of glasses slammed on the table with a water pitcher placed beside them; "I'll be right back." In a sharp tone. Ok. But not if we're paying $20 per person per cocktail. We were rushed and this attitude persisted, it is lazy.. especially given it was extremely slow.. super surprising for such an elevated establishment. Then, after a long while, we were all asked what we wanted to drink, like a fast casual burger joint. No, "any questions about our selections" or, "may I give some suggestions?" Never came by to check on us once despite the three other two tops inside. We wrapped it up fast since we definitely could choose another location with more attentiveness & basic kindness. We paid, a hefty gratuity in small print on the check which.. you guessed it.. was automatically included but no mention of this tidbit by the server. Maybe this is why we revived all this mean girl energy from the jump? Because they'll still get paid really well regardless? All eight of us have been a part of the service industry and this one stuck out extra frustrating & annoying. Never leave a low review, I'm writing today to management because they will ruin your repeat clientele, seriously. People can find another fabulous cocktail with way better service & vibes in the city. Overall, it was a shame my friends experienced this gross behavior today in the fabulous city of Chicago. Hope the staff does better in the future and works on improving their outlook.
