Sorry, This is a review of the coffee I purchased only: the french roast I bought was not good. In fact, as a coffee "snob?" I must question this particular batches quality. I drink it black. It was roasted 12/09/21 and it was waaaaay over roasted. Totally burnt. Really really burnt. But the fact I bought it in late JULY at a local shop (deikmanns) on hwy 1 before I realized how "old" the roast date was could also be a factor. Anyway, just providing info to be helpful....but I certainly would pass on these beans in the future. In fact the beans to me were absolutely 1 star, but I don't want to downvote over what could have just been an old, bad batch. I love coffee and want all small batch local rosters to succeed so it's just feedback. read more

Until I went to support a local business, a coffee shop in Twain Harte (Bean around the Block)t and ordered their ice coffee is so good and this now becomes a bad habit. I am a coffee drinker I found that Twain Harte market carries lots of ML coffee products. My favorite is sunrise. read more

I moved from the Bay Area to Sonora a year and a half ago having been a Peet's Coffee drinker for 35 years. I finally searched online and discovered Mother Lode Roasting Co coffee. Now I'm hooked! Their French Roast is better than Peets and stays fresh much longer! Happy customer! read more

I never thought that I would have preference over beans, brewing, whatever. But I do... probably a sign of age. But this coffee is WONDERFUL. They have organic as well. Am able to purchase this line at Podesto's in Lincoln Center. My favorite: organic French roast. OOOOOOOO..... this stuff is da bomb! The best coffee - ever! Their Sumatra is our favorite. In my book, Mother Lode beats Peets, Blue Bottle, etc. Need to find a retail shop that sells it now that I'm in Oakland - wait, thanks to another Yelp reviewer (thanks, Monster D.!), I think I've found one! In SF, you can find it at Falletti's Market (Fell & Broderick). Amazing! Plus, Sonora has a soft spot in my heart :) 7/26/11 update: The Village Market (which carries Mother Lode) sucks and even though it's less than a mile from my house I have no interest in returning. I have been buying their coffee for years.....It is the best I have ever tasted! I deBurr whole beans every morning and do a pour over in a Stagg Fellow tall cylinder dropper into a double walled Borsilicate Stagg Fellow Carafe with the water being poured at 202 degrees coarse grind! My habitual routine....one of the reasons my wife keeps me around! No I do not work for Stagg Fellow.....But their products are GREAT The EKG kettle...Best looking kettle out there warms water 1200W REAL quick and stops at desired setting Back to Mother Lode Great people....I actually went through the roasting facility in Sonora many years ago.....Super friendly first class individuals make a smile on your face kind of people.......Refreshing in this present world and greatly APPRECIATED! Coffee from Mother Lode is amazing. I buy the one-pound French Roast and Italian Roast from a local gourmet shopping store in Oakland, CA (VILLAGE MARKET). The whole beans are packaged incredibly fresh...to the extreme that the beans are super oily in the one-pound bag. It's better than Peets Coffee, and I drink a lot of that when I am working. Not only is the coffee super terrific, the price is very reasonable too. Their web site shows which cities and stores that carry their coffees. Now...onto my third cup! read more

I have this fine brew sent to me via UPS! It is dark Italian-Style french roast coffee, that has a thicker texture, a smokey, yet sweet taste, and is better than Pete's coffee and Tea's dark french roast. I freaking love this coffee (it is to die for). It is a staple in our household, and we go into withdrawls when we run out. Starbucks cannot hold a candle to this fine coffee. At the farmers market today. We arrive at 11:15 to the stand and the market ends at 11:30. Immediately one of two women working the table looks at us, sighs, and grumbled that it's 11:15 and that she wanted to be packed up by 11. She is overtly annoyed at our mere presence at her stand. The other woman working seems polite as she helps the couple in front of us. 5 minutes pass and besides the the scornful look we were welcomed with, neither woman has acknowledged us. The couple ahead of us each ordered an iced coffee and some beans, yet somehow the transaction took 5 minutes and nobody could even say hi to us, including the woman not helping a customer. I was immediately turned off by our unwelcomed welcome and was ready to leave right then but my wife wanted coffee and "happy wife, happy life." Eventually tired of being ignored, we left. Once 10 feet away a condescending "We're ready to wait on you now!" was yelled at us. Now thoroughly annoyed and borderline angry, we kept walking and didn't acknowledge it, which lead to a whatever-esque "okay!?" We took our business to Sonora Joe's. read more

Very fresh. Their whole bean products are evenly roasted, no white under roasted beans like some other name brand coffees I've purchased. They're also very true to type. The French, Italian, Viennese, Sumatra, Columbia, just the roast they ought to be. I've tried 1/2 pound bags of most of their varietals, included flavored (ugh, not a fan of any flavored coffee) and have finally settled on their Fair Trade Organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. It is absolutely my favorite coffee right now. I buy their full pound at $13.99 and grind it fresh daily. A little vanilla silk soy creamer and I've got the perfect beverage. The flavors complement themselves perfectly. In fact if you add creamer, it's likely to influence which coffee you begin with. One of the things I've discovered too is that good coffee doesn't fray your nerves like the cheap stuff. Mother Lode is Very good coffee. read more
