These guys did a good job on a window tint a few years ago so I went back for a different car and decided not to do business here. They had a serious attitude problem, rude to other customers right in front of me and even talked crap about them when they left. They failed to fully explain the different options, benefits, and prices and simply told me about what they wanted to sell. Prices were also higher than before but with no price book or formal quotes I think they must change based on the customer or day of the week. They also do not make appointments and have no waiting area for customers. How do these guys stay in business? read more

Went in Saturday morning to get my wife's SUV front windows tinted. Staff was pleasent, prices were very good, and they had me in there inside of 20 minutes. However, they didn't check to see if they had enough of the tint they used before they started, leaving me with one window tinted. If they used different tint on the other (driver side, at that) it would have looked weird. Fortunately, the manager on duty was able to call the South Lamar location and procure some, and then personally drove down there to pick it up. So, I ended up waiting another 45 minutes or so but the job got done right. Overall I'd recommend them again, everyone makes mistakes, it's how you react to them that's the difference. read more

I have been dealing with these people for several years now. It's funny how the warranty just seemed to have expired! Customer Services isn't in their vocabulary. They don't know what it is at all. They would rather you leave your car there then wait. Why? Well, because the techs in the back sit and shit chat between movements. I have seen it for myself!! All I wanted to do was ask a few question about services, My intention was not to buy - but to evaluate. I spoke with Jason and Steve the second I walked in. Not only were they receptive to my "inquisitive" nature, but they made me believe I was in total control of what I wanted to do with my vehicle; not what they wanted me to spend. Furthermore, they're all about straight talk; not that jive I got from some other "custom" audio/tint establishment who shall remain nameless per this review. The prices were reasonable and what I expected to pay at drive out. But what got me was the service and how quickly I got out of there after deciding to get the tint, radio, and speakers. I mean...they were QUICK! I'm not talking about that assembly line tacky quick. I mean PROFESSIONAL quick. Those guys know what they're doing. I wish I could remember my installers' names. I hate the fact I don't. But they don't play. Even went out of their way to fix stuff that I didn't request but needed to be fixed. Who does that? But I also want to let you know I watched these guys as other patrons came in. It was no different. The customer service for all the clients coming in was remarkable. Not only remarkable, but personalized. They didn't greet or treat everybody the same. I don't want to sound corny, but they make you feel like family in there. Nobody had a bad attitude; customers or providers. In closing, I didn't mean to spend any money today. But at the end of the day, I sure ain't sorry I did. I decided it was time to get my windows tinted, a process I've repeated many times over the years research is key because anyone can produce immediate results its over time that determines quality. Mothers in San Antonio did a job for me back in '94 so the N.Austin was on my list. I checked their website and replied to link to text for a discount by the president of the company. While I was waiting, I had my list of places to get estimates (hint, most places either try to give you a lowball price on subpar tint or will just give you a price range over the phone). Mothers was 2nd on my list to check out. I stopped by only 1 guy was working the front and several guys standing in the garage, he was tending a customer which took about 20 mins, but there was myself and 3 other customers waiting to ask questions he finished with the person he was tending then decided to gather the waiting customers myself included into a group and just say who wants audio and tint or what? He proceeds to just discuss the products on display without asking why and what we are looking for as individuals because this a GROUP sale unfortunately then begins to mention about how FAST they can tint a car (hint: really bad sign quality is not rushed, unless you want to make a return visit. I don't want a doctor bragging how fast he can replace an organ). I had history with this company, how the mighty have fallen, no personal attention not much of anything else other than that feeling you get when buying a car and the salesman says a cheesy line well here it would be "Whats it gonna take to get tint on your windows today"? On a sidenote I don't comment much but felt compelled to share my experience, I felt it only fair to reply back to the president since it was a week ago I sent a follow-up message regarding questions. No response so I did try to give them an opportunity respond. I'm staying local for sure after this experience a craiglist listing seems sane. read more

I took my car to Ralph to get my windows tinted. Nice guy with great customer service. It took around 45 minutes. So far so good on the tint job. I would recommend dropping your car off then coming back for it. It's not the most pleasant area. For that reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 stars. My car had no window tint on it when I purchased it at a used car dealership and with a baby I knew I needed to get it tinted asap. We brought my Volvo in at 4 pm and went to happy hour at Amayas. They called us about 10 minutes until 6pm which is when they close and offered to wait for us to get there about 20 minutes later. The tint looks great on my car and I can already tell a difference with the temperature inside. The best part of my experience was noticing they had vacuumed a small amount of dirt from a potted plant out of the back of the car. This was unexpected but very much appreciated. I had a great experience getting tint and an awesome stereo installed in my Ford F150. I called Tony and he said to come in and he'd get me out in an hour. That might have been true, but I decided to upgrade my stereo once I was there. Josh was patient and walked me through the pros and cons of each stereo. Tony and Josh game me a nice discount on the package and Jason did an awesome job on the tint. The truck looks great and sounds great. The inside of the car was so cool and it was 95 outside, I wasn't even squinting! We noticed the stereo restarting itself the first day and called Tony. He said come right in. I am a used car guy. I buy 'em with 30-50k and sell 'em at 175-200k. My current ride is an '04 Civic which USED to have crappy bubbled up purple tint on it. I am into making the car run and look excellent for it's entire service life. I tossed $350 at Tony and his group, and he made it look EXCELLENT. The guys killed it. When I got a relatively new pickup, I took it back to them, and they KILLED IT!. Superb tint job. Lifetime warranty. Tony and Jason (I think...) did an excellent job. I remembered their ads from the 70s, so I called 'em up on the first job because I couldn't see out the rearview on my most reliable, fastest Civic, and they did me right. I don't do custom stereo stuff, but these guys got me in and out of there in less than an hour when I pulled up in my new (!) CR-V. Outstanding work boys. read more

Went in to have my windows tinted. After the initial job was done, I noticed a significant number of bubbles on the back window due to dust getting trapped between the film and glass. I took it in and they fixed it. After the second application, I noticed far less, but the same issue, so I returned to have the back glass re-done. I just got the car back and I think they got it this time! I am a very picky person and although the last time was probably not necessary, the guys at the N Austin location took care of me. They really do strive to make sure each customer is satisfied and even though it took 3 attempts, I think they nailed it. Completely satisfied with the end result and highly recommend them. My car was broken into and Mother's did the tint on the replacement window. When I finally rolled the widow down for the first time after the tint was added a piece of glass left over from the shattered window scratched the new tint. Even though it wasn't mother's fault they still helped me remove the shattered glass stuck in the window and redid the tint free of charge all while providing excellent customer service. The reason I chose the north location was Steven. Before even meeting him I had called a few times with directions and pricing and he was so great over the phone, very personable. Upon arriving with my 4 year old, Steven cut to the chase and we got down to business. He was a great salesman and not pushy. The guys at Mother's have always been polite with me and very straight forward. Over the years Mother's has installed radios, remote start system, and tinted several of my cars. I've had a great experience every single time I've been. All three of the cars I've had tinted still look great. The first one I got done with the darkest tint legally possible was done seven years ago and to date they are no bubbles. The next two cars I brought in I splurged on the fancy ceramic tinting and love it. I've read some reviews regarding seeing bubbles right after they were done. This was true for all of mine but they went away in about 48 hours just as they said they would. My remote start system with alarm works great and was done for less than what several other stores quoted me. My best experience so far has been with my service for my radio. I had it installed two years ago and recently had issues with it. I took it in about a month ago and they fixed it in about 10 minutes for free. Turns out I had ripped out a cable when loading something sizable in my trunk. Great service for a $99 radio I bought two years ago. read more

I researched the best tint material for the most heat rejection. This is the only shop in Austin that carries Huper Optik. I am glad that I got it done here. Jason knew I had done my homework when I asked him about Huper Optik. He showed me various tint films in his shop, and demonstrate why the product is superior than other ceramic films. The first tint was done with minor imperfections, possibly from Huper film itself. Jason took care it, and applied a new Huper film under warranty. read more

This is one business that takes customer service very seriously. I recently took my 2006 Nissan Altima to Mother's for an all-around tint job and a new stereo head unit to replace the stock system, which had no inputs. I also sprung for the steering wheel control adapter kit. They had all of the work completed the same day, and their pricing was very competitive, even with online retailers. The staff are all very courteous and knowledgeable, and they helped me find the exact right setup to fit my budget with the features I wanted. After the installed head unit was found to have a factory defect causing the need for multiple and frequent resets, they replaced it at no extra charge and had me back on the road in about 20 minutes. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for tint, audio/video, or security systems for their vehicle. read more

I really can't believe these guys. I've been there several times over the past fifteen years and I always have the best experience in service and equipment. My alarm went out last year while I was living in San Anto and tried to get it fixed down there but no dice. So I waited until I moved back to Austin to go see Ralph at the Mother's where I had the alarm installed. The alarm was 7 years old and I did not expect much help but they took care of the problem. no charge since I was a repeat customer. That helped me out a bunch as I am really low on funds but I needed the alarm fixed since I started working downtown and I have to park there. Great guys, great products, and I'll probably go bak next month to get a new stereo when I have a bit more cashola. So get your buts down there when you need tint, alarm, or stereos. I came into Mothers Window Tint to get some audio equipment installed in my 2010 Cadillac. Custom sounds had given me a quote of close to $600 to have it done. Ralph, the manager here at Mothers not only gave me a quote for half of that, he also upgraded my audio equipment for bottom dollar. I was treated with the upmost respect and absolute tremendous customer service. I will no longer go through anyone else for any audio/tint needs on any vehicle I own. If you live in Texas, you must be a masochist or something if you don't tint your windows. I put tint on my older car in 2005 for $100 from a ghetto shop somewhere in South Austin. By 2008 I had to replace it because it was peeling off and bubbling. I replaced it at Mother's and the tint outlasted the car when I sold it this year. It still looked as good as it did when it was first installed. When I got my newer car I took it back to Mother's, and when I sell it I am confident the tint will look as great as it does today. It's got a great warranty either way, so I am not worried. On top of great service, Mother's has a great South Austin vibe. It only took about an hour and 1/2 to get the service completed, but during my wait, I had a nice coffee at Opa down the road. Lots of other choices in the area, too. Thank you, Mother's! Well unfortunately I never got to see if this place was any good. Just by the 2 phone calls I made I decided not to give these guys my business. Last week... First phone call, was put on hold for a while and then the guy sounded like Spicolli (lost) He said no appoinment necessary, so I call today and ask if I can bring my truck in for a remote start tomorrow, he said he already had a appointment at 11 and couldn't fit me in? I thought you didn't make appointments? Anyway when he answered the phone he asked if I could hold on a minute while he talked to someone else on the phone, I could hear that conversation and it went like this.....Well maam, I could take the film off your windows but it won't be easy because of the weather, maybe when it it gets warmer.
