I will say the bathroom line is pretty intense so maybe finding a way to ease that would be beneficial. Definitely a great location for shows/plays in Brooklyn!

I went to the ISSUE Project Room for the first time back in February this year. ISSUE presented…read morethree different performance shows from February 23-25 in celebration of The Necks' 30th Anniversary. The ISSUE Project Room is a nonprofit performance space that facilitates this type of specialized programming. The night I went to ISSUE, it was a standalone performance with just the group. The venue is housed in a beautiful building with high ceilings and gorgeous archways. The floors are marble and the acoustics in there are amazing. You may catch yourself forgetting that you are in downtown Brooklyn when you are inside. The building is at the corner of Boerum and Livingston. It's a little tricky to find the entrance to ISSUE because there isn't obvious signage. Watch your step going in. On the night of The Neck show, there was a table set up where a person took your name and then directed you to enter a performance hall to the right. There were seats, but all of them had been snatched up by early birds. There were many people standing in the back, leaning against the wall, and sitting on the marble ground (I eventually was one of these people). However, it almost didn't matter where you were because the sound was spectacular in there. For the type of show this way, it's more about the audio and soundscapes created. I didn't want to lose my floor spot, so I didn't venture off into the main lobby during intermission. However, you could buy drinks (alcohol, bottled water) there if you wanted. After the show, I picked up a flyer with info about future performances and events. Definitely, I see myself going back to ISSUE to check them out.

The Circus used to come and park in a vacant lot near my house in Florida. That was my first experience seeing a sideshow. I was in Second or Third Grade. Every time I get the opportunity I have to go see the sideshow acts. Coney Island was my go to place at one time. I'm fond of the Fortune Teller. That was pre-Covid-19. I don't know what you will find if you visit Coney Island now. I'm posting some photos I took a long time ago. I have my memories of fun times until I can get back to Coney Island Park again. I hope the sideshow will still be there. There's one of my photos of what was a beer joint. Coney Island Brewery is there now. The old Coney Island Lager has a connection to the Sideshow atmosphere of Coney Island. I'll let you do the research and look it up! I'm posting my favorite Shmaltz Brewing Company photo. Half the show time was spent trying to get us to buy more tickets and spend more money. After the first little act, they kept telling us where to buy more tickets. After the second, they wanted us to spend $10 on the show poster. Then after the blade box act, they wanted us to pay to come up and see the trick. There was one more act & then they were asking us to pay more money to see something else. I appreciate the art & understand the sideshow needs to be supported, but I paid for a show & saw maybe 15 minutes of actual acts. I hope they reconsider the format & their approach to donations.

I found myself here on a quiet Saturday night after having a meal at The Monkey King next door, and had a really fun time. One really refreshing thing about this spot is that the crowd is mostly poc, at least the night I visited. So many spaces feel pretty homogenous so it's nice to feel safe with my group of mostly poc friends when we go out. The music the DJ played was easy to dance to and our bartender churned out excellent drinks all night. I'm not sure how this spot would be on a busier night, and I haven't seen the cirque du soleil-like act that performs here on select nights-- but on the low key evening I visited I loved this spot that felt like a secret Narnia in Bushwick.

This performance space for theater, art, and music right by Bushwick Park, "is a full-scale not-for-profit performance venue and Presenting Organization dedicated to bringing a continuum of art and artists to the Bushwick community". (Already, this was going well.) The theater itself is tiny, and without any amenities. The seats are just chairs lined up on risers. There is neither a concession stand, nor a bar. There IS a tiny little bathroom with a sign that says "No flushing during performance" (the theater is that small), but no sink to wash your hands. Which isn't a big deal for me because...well, look at me: proper hygiene isn't among my priorities. Despite all this (or perhaps because of it), I kind of love it. It's so unabashedly low-budget, and the performance was so brazenly ridiculous. Admittedly, I've only attended the one show at The Brick (so far), so I find it a bit hard to separate the venue from the performance. However, if Flying Snakes in 3D is any indication, this tiny little theater books thought-provoking, amusing, outlandish, avant-garde, FUN productions. They don't follow any rules, and there's something extremely enjoyable about seeing other people enjoy themselves so much on stage. Be warned: This isn't Broadway. Don't come in expecting any traditional sort of theater. I mean, I've never pelted performers with rubber snakes before. At least not during the performance, and at their behest. If you do take a chance on The Brick, as you should, I would just go in with an open mind, prepared to see a show unlike any you've seen previously. Which I think is a good thing.

Or you could spend a fraction of that on some truly original work. An innovative, intelligent, small theater. The work produced here is amongst some of the most trend setting, edge cutting, and experimental to be found in NYC, the U.S., and the world at large. And even better, if you show up to one of the last shows on a Friday or Saturday night, there is almost guaranteed to be a friendly and lively after party thrown in the theater space itself, hosted by the cast and crew. Where else are you going to see my own drunkenly performed karaoke versions of Journey, full length theater pieces about text based adventure gaming, and burlesque numbers performed by gorgeous men and women dressed up as Seven of Nine from Star Trek and Doctor Manhattan respectively, all under one roof? This sort of thing is simply not being done anywhere else. Show up or run the risk of being left in the dust of theater history. A few notes on the space. It only seats in the range of 40-50, so purchase your tickets in advance. If a show is popular, it *will* sell out. If you'd like to be part of the onstage fun, sit in the front row. The performers are on the same level as the first row of seats, and are frequently pulled up into performances. If you're more of an onlooker, head toward the seats at the back.
