Our experience with Motivated Movers was extremely disappointing. Our crew showed up tired and complained about having to move items. We fed them pizza to make sure they had enough energy to unload the truck and sadly they slowed way down and went well over the estimated time we were quoted. Called Barry the manager and spoke with him. Instead of being curious and willing to fix our issues, he was defensive and insisted MM was the most highly rated company in Tuscaloosa. The crew broke glass on an antique piece. We asked for one of three garage spaces to be left clear and the garage was a mess when they left. Would not recommend or use again. Motivated Movers were the third leg of an out of state move. Each of the other two legs were excellent, friendly, efficient and careful. Not this crew. After talking with friends it sounds like you should use Two Men and a Truck in Tuscaloosa. Sorry we didn't ask around before we booked with MM. read more

They did a GREAT job. The. Moving Crew called the morning they were scheduled to give me an exact arrival time. All three young men were polite, professional and organized. I had a pod and they expertly arranged my items to maximize the space and finished the job more quickly than expected. We hired a 3-man team. 2 of them worked very hard and the third one it seemed like it was his first day, kept walking away from the other two playing on his phone. Additionally with this third guy, I understand they aren't responsible for unhooking any appliances but I couldn't get the washer unhooked so I asked him to do it. He was able to unhook the washer but unbeknownst to me the valves were leaking. The employee didn't seem concerned to tell me that the valves were leaking and water was dripping on the drywall and the floor. I noticed it and he was just sort of nonchalant like yeah it's leaking. Again I am not blaming him for the leak but it would have been nice for him to tell me about it when it happened or seem concerned. Additionally, when the guys arrived we did a walkthrough on what was and was not going on the truck. At the end I asked them if they had a big enough truck and they assured me they did (I didn't think everything would fit in there). By the time the truck was full there was a LOT left in the house. We have made several trips since the move in an SUV and three trips in a pickup truck to get things that didn't fit on the MM truck. The workers assured me everything would fit on the truck they brought but when the MM truck was full I was frankly pretty unhappy that they seemed unconcerned about how much they were leaving behind. Before I had time to ask them what about our other stuff, they were all three in the MM truck and taking off. I flagged the driver down in our driveway to make sure they had the new address. There wasn't any communication with them about the first half of the job being complete. I felt like it wasn't our fault that they did not bring a large enough truck. Unloading at new house they did a pretty good job of taking things where we wanted them but overall I was pretty unhappy with the whole experience. A few tidbits I forgot to mention. We tipped the crew $50 which might not sound like a lot but we wanted to show some appreciation for their hard work. Also, they would not take anything with gas in it or several large boxes we had that wouldn't close (large pictures in them), but maybe that was in the paperwork we signed beforehand. Lastly, we were scheduled for a certain timeframe and the dispatcher called and said they were running early could they go ahead and come? I said sure. I waited at the home past the early time, then into the originally scheduled window and finally decided to call them. The driver stated that they were in Chelsea getting lunch and were about 50 minutes away--this put them arriving much later than what the dispatcher told me when he said they would be early. I told him that the dispatcher said they would be early and he sort of ignored that and acted like they were still arriving during the original timeframe so I shouldn't have a problem with it. Bottom line: they worked hard but we had several issues along the way for what was already a stressful day. read more

Several years ago, we had a crew from the Motivated Movers franchise out of Prattville, AL move us and could not have been more happy with the service we got. I tipped each of the guys on the crew $100, and I wish I could have tipped them even more because of the job they did. They were amazing! Lots of care packing and unloading, even during cold and rainy weather a few days before Christmas. So...a few years later, I hired Motivated Movers out of Birmingham, AL to move my wife and myself...expecting the same kind of service. WRONG! We've never had as bad of a move EVER as we had with the Birmingham franchise. Once we got to our destination and began looking at our stuff, there was damage to some of our appliances, they didn't reassemble pieces of our furniture correctly, and there were pieces and parts of some of our items like a vacuum cleaner and a shelving unit that just were no longer there. Not sure if they were left on the truck or were just discarded. We did a walk through of our home before we left and made sure nothing was left behind. During the move and the unload, some of the crew were joking around, wasting time, and even talking to friends on cell phones. In case you've never moved before, unless you contract for an "all-inclusive" move (you pay more but there are no extra charges later), your crew works on a clock, so if they're wasting time, they're wasting your money. This crew and company wasted our money and damaged many of our items to the extent that we can no longer use some of them or had to throw them away. I don't want to put down the whole company though. Like I said, the franchise out of Prattville, AL was exceptional and if I could go back, I would have paid extra money for them to drive 90 miles to our location rather than use the Birmingham franchise. Lesson learned. Also remember, if you observe a crew member damaging your items, wasting time, or anything else like that, document the behavior, stop them, and talk to the foreman immediately. It's doubtful they will be able to get another crew person to come and take their place, but note it (get their name) and document the behavior with your cell phone camera first. Then approach the foreman so they are aware. Best of luck with your move! Think twice before hiring this franchise for your move though. read more

Hired them to help my mother move some things into my apartment while i was outta town. Zero problems. I told them the time frame and how much i wanted to spend and they got it done. We had 4 pieces of furniture , already taken apart. We requested two people. We received three people. The total amount for moving 4 bedding items, that aren't put together by the movers and with no wrapping from Hoover to valleydale, with 5.1 miles apart, they charged my husband $702.00. All my Sons are way better! They actually have accountable movers and apply wrapping on your furniture and they can take apart and put together your furniture for you under $1200 for a whole house of furniture. Disappointed. I realize we are going through inflation. But for 4 items to be moved between 5.1 miles , and the items not put together , costing $702 is absurd. I do not recommend. read more

We used Motivated Movers out of Pelham to move to North Huntsville. They were fast and uncaring while loading up our stuff that I had already boxed up and moved to the garage. The next day they didn't care about the labels on the boxes, they just put boxes and furniture down where they wanted to, just to be done. Every single box was labeled with a specific room and we were available if they ever had any questions. They laid furniture on it's side in the garage and just left it. They also transported the lawn mower upside down on boxes so that any remaining oil and gasoline leaked. We told them how much stuff we had, how many rooms and what our last weight of move was, yet they couldn't fit everything in 2 trucks. Our cars were packed to the brim with boxes and miscellaneous housewares they wouldn't try to fit on the trucks. We also had to leave behind a very nice shed that we moved from the backyard to the garage so they wouldn't forget, but they couldn't/wouldn't fit it on the truck. We literally had all the furniture ready to go in house and boxes laid out in the garage so they could easily see what was being moved...they chose to not even attempt to make it all work. We found damage on our love seat, they took pictures and said someone would be in contact with us. No one contacted us, so after a week, we called them. We left messages for the manager at least once a week for 6 weeks with no one calling us back. We received a check for $120 in the mail from them with no explanation. 2 weeks after the check came and them still not returning phone calls, we finally spoke to the manager. The $120 is for the damage to the love seat. The love seat is less than a year old and because of the damage, looks 10 years old and doesn't match with the couch. If you are looking for people to not take care of your things and damage your furniture without proper compensation, then by all means, use them. The quality of workers is poor and the communication is worse. read more

When I went to pay it was a hundred dollars more than I expected but nothing I could do at that time. When I called the company I got the hogwash runaround. Motivated Movers moved us within the Birmingham metro area a couple of years ago and they were fine so we used them recently (Jun 2017) to move my Mother from Little Rock Arkansas to Birmingham and their timing and communication across states is more than terrible. Our contract stated they would pick up in Little Rock jun 24th between 2 to 4pm, and their delivery time was Sunday between 9 to 11am. The movers did pick up at 3:45pm in Little Rock. Two young men did the moving and they did a great job. My elderly Mother and i arrived at her delivery address in Birmingham the next morning before 9am. We waited and waited. 11am came and went. I called, texted and emailed the company but no answer and no response. My 82 yr old diabetic mother and i waited in an empty apartment until 4pm when the movers finally arrived. No word, no communication from the movers or the company. The boys who moved were good but i believe they must have spent the night in Memphis (halfway point between Little Rock and Birmingham) and partied too late and got a late start driving the next morning. I complained to the company on Monday but the owner was angry with me!!!! He said i did not understand which i believe i did understand. I tried to get him to understand that someone should have called me. He disagreed. Well, for over 3k someone should have called me. They had my cell #. I turned them in to BBB who sent a letter to them but MM never replied. Mm is run by very arrogant people and desperately lack in communication and navigating skills. I've used Motivated Movers seven times in the last six years and I've been VERY pleased. These guys know how to hustle. These means a lot when you're paying someone by the hour. Keep in mind that hiring professional movers is going to be more expensive than renting a uhaul and bribing your friends with pizza and beer. However, these guys are professionals and there's something to be said for being able to simply direct traffic and not have to lift and maneuver furniture yourself. These guys will put your stuff where you want it so when they're done, all you have to do is hang pictures and unpack boxes. On our last move, a couple of things got damaged and they pointed it out to me and we're willing to have the items repaired even when it was probably my fault for not wrapping the pieces in bubble wrap. I also miscalculated how much stuff we had and they were quick to call in a second truck so we could stay on schedule. It was a long day, but they never showed any frustration. Their movers are always very friendly, polite, and even tempered even when the temperatures soar and you aren't as organized as you'd hoped. I think they are absolutely worth the money. Keep in mind that if you are moving out of the area (we moved from Chelsea to Dadeville) you may have to pay a tariff that is based on weIght. I can't imagine using anyone else to move me. read more

We were very happy with our experience from booking to the completion of our move. I shopped around to 5 different moving companies and Motivated Movers had the best price. Prior to the move, they sent me emails with the specifics and called the day before. The day of the move, they came 1/2 hour early. The guys were quick, efficient, and very respectful of our belongings. I would highly recommend them and will certainly use them again in the future. We have had the worst experience ever with motivated movers. If my husband and I had moved ourselves I'm pretty sure it would have gone faster and we would have had a lot less damage. They destroyed our flooring by just shoving our washer into the closet, dented our dryer, and informed me that they had hooked up the washer and tested it to make sure everything was correct. Lo and behold when I ran my washer for the first time i heard what sound like water spilling on the ground. So I went to check on it and they not only had not hooked up the drain, but had switched the hot and cold water lines. So not only was our flooring soaked and torn my cold wash only clothes had been washed in boiling hot water. I did not pay that much money to have someone else move us and do a worse job than we could have done with a Uhaul truck ourselves. May have been because of the guys we had because I have seen great reviews about how quick they are and what great service they provide, but if that is so they should not let the two that moved us work for their company if they want to keep a good reputation. read more

We hired Motivated Movers to pack and move us across town. During the packing phase they stole $9,800 cash from a drawer. After the packing crew left, we discovered that the money was missing. To make a long story short, the thief eventually returned the money after two very stressful weeks. MM issued a reluctant apology and refunded the packing fee. Do not hire these guys to pack for you. FWIW, the actual moving crew was great. read more

Awful service. It took them two hours to figure out how to place my flat screen tv's on the truck. These are professionals and they took two hours to figure that alone out. They placed a wrought iron table with curved sharp legs next to a mattress and when it cut through they didn't want to accept responsibility for it. They scratched my dressers and cracked a solid oak dresser even with furniture pads on them. They placed my glass table top on top of a dresser and it fell down when it was unloaded. I wouldn't call them to move a safety pin after this experience. The excuses given to me say that they dont care. Last time I'll ever support this business. The movers actually stood around for the two hours while they were supposed to place the tv's and made no apology for wasting time doing it. They did not properly pack my glass dining room table top between the mattresses like every other moving company, they just left it free with the hope that it wouldn't break. Release of liability is applicable when the movers don't screw up the move before you drive off. To say its not our fault cause we didn't drive it is complete crap. You got paid to load it properly and didn't do that. I could've done a better job loading the truck myself. After contacting the company, the manager made things worse. Instead of accepting some responsibility, his response was it's not all of our fault. We really don't have to do anything because you signed a release. A release which I never saw my furniture before signing. Instead of apologizing and attempting to correct the problem, it became more about who is right instead of making the customer happy. The manager insulted me by saying I should've used them to move my furniture from one end to the other and to stop being so cheap when I move. If I had spent the money to pay them then this never would've happened. When confronted with the fact that the damages are legitimate, he would rather point out that some of the damage was old and not theirs instead of just accepting responsibility for the part that was his company's fault. By telling me I had cheap furniture and that it was easy to break, he's taught me something very valuable about moving. Never again will I trust the movers to do their jobs properly. I obviously have to stand there and direct their every move to keep them from damaging my things. Then the manager got angry because of the bad reviews he received from me and confronted me with the fact that I should take them down in order for him to resolve the issue. Instead of attempting to resolve the issue, he is angry because I spoke the truth about my experience. I don't have the belief that the customer is always right, but I do believe in being fair and equitable in business. He defended his position and attempted to explain to me that because of depreciation my furniture's not worth much anyway. In order to get my furniture fixed, the furniture company won't accept a depreciated price to fix it. I paid full price for the service, but the manager made it abundantly clear that they performed a service for me as if they were doing me a favor by loading my truck for me when they got paid to move everything on that truck. He continuously explained to me that I should pay one company to complete the entire job instead of me spending my money as I choose to do so. The manager even advised he'd respond to me online. I had to hang up the phone before the conversation went totally left. The manager let me know that my concerns weren't his concern so I wanted to warn anybody using them to be careful, because if things get broken, they'll be your problem not Motivated Movers. read more

I would not recommend this company whatsoever. I was encouraged to use them after buying a large safe from Mark's Outdoors. I was told one price by the guys at Marks and then another by the moving company. I scheduled them to come and they needed to come earlier-not a big deal. Since I was not home, my wife had to tell them where to put the safe. She told them to take it off of the pallet, which when I got home, realized they did not do. When she called to ask them to come back and do that, the person on the phone argued with her as to what she told them to do. What kind of business argues with customers? So instead of doing something very simple to make a customer happy, they instead decided to argue and be unprofessional. Poor decision because now I will make sure to tell everyone that I know, among them a lot of realtors, to avoid this company at all costs. If I treated my clients in this way, I'd be unemployed. Also, when the kids were at my house, they told my wife, "I don't know what your husband told you this thing cost, but he lied because these things are expensive!" Are you kidding me? Who in the hell makes a comment like that? To anyone that decides to read this from the company: your unprofessionalism and short sighted customers service is going to cost you. read more

We recently used MM for a move from one house to another in Madison, AL. They did an EXCELLENT job and were very courteous and efficient. Due to the nature of my move, I got an hourly rate quoted. I was a little worried the move would take longer than it should. Could not be further from the truth. I had 3 crews made up of Elon (ben), Eryn, and Anthony, Nick and Taylor and Cain, Alex and Andrew.. All were 100% on their game. Would use again in a heart beat. Oh! The guys who moved an antique piano for us were awesome. The showed up for pick up on time and called me when they were on their way. They arrived right on schedule and were very professional in assessing the situation there was no driveway and it had rained all day so the yard and clay driveway were wet they took care to protect the piano and the move went very smooth.
