I go twice a week at about 6 or 7am to play basketball with some friends, and it's always quiet enough for us to utilize the space. It's included in our normal UMN gym membership. Not sure of all the amenities that it has, but it does have a workout room, a basketball court, and some cardio equipment. Parking is tough if you don't have a pass, but there is a one hour street parking area near the tennis courts if you wanted to use that. Staff are friendly, and it's on one of the north most areas on campus. I'd definitely recommend going at least once, because it is way less busy than the twin cities campus gym. It's also very clean and easy to find!

It might not have the shine, bustling energy, or sheer size of Minneapolis's flagship Rec Center--one swimming pool instead of three, a handful of exercise machines versus fleets, no cafe or fireplace lounge in the lobby--but SPG manages to pack several gyms and activity rooms, indoor track, weight room, 8-lane lap pool, a few racquetball and squash courts, and a two-story climbing wall into one tidy building that befits its more pastoral surroundings. Outdoor fields, tennis courts, and free neighborhood street parking are all adjacent. Friendly staff and low traffic keep the facility pretty clean and quiet, although community programs such as youth swim lessons can clog the works during certain times of day. If you are a UMN affiliate wondering what a quiet gym feels like, hop a Connector out to St. Paul!

All the hopes, ideas, and community conversations that have built up over the years have finally taken shape in this new, loving, and accessible space. The gym was created with community, inclusion, and opportunity at its core. There are showers available, plenty of parking, and, as an avid gym goer, trainer, and bodybuilder, I can say that the fitness machines and classes are freaking impressive for anyone looking to do more than climb (best fitness equipment I've ever seen at a climbing gym). The team is wonderful and feels like a natural extension of the community that was built in Minneapolis & BP Community. More photos to come, but I really do encourage you to check out the space yourself and fall in love with the same community that I have. As someone who has climbed at both gyms since before day one, I'm excited to see where things go next. I will update in a few months!

They have a lap pool, fun kiddy pool with water slides and a hot tub. They offer many fitness classes that are included in your membership. The locker rooms offer saunas and steam rooms. I'm sure you may be wondering; you don't need to be Jewish to be a member. You are also invited to attend special programs they have going on at the center, including the changing art installations, concerts, etc.

I've only seen a max of 10 people using the weight room at a time. Very friendly management/training staff too, willing to put together a fitness program for you! Plenty of free parking.

The personal training package I purchased didn't go well at all, multiple times the trainer didn't even show up. The pool and hot tub were under maintenance constantly. They also allow trainers to rent space to host their own classes, and only charge the trainer a reasonable amount so the trainer is able to make a living doing what they do best, get results for people. I have not tried an official Balance program, but I have Morgan, one of the co-owners. I have no doubt she'd whip you in shape in a sincere, but no excuses way. It's an open space and is now a cross-fit site. I do kettlebells with Sarah of Real Fitness Solutions here. Like all group or small group training, it's about finding an instructor who you hit it off with. My partner and I happen to enjoy Sarah's approach- holistic, emphasis on good technique and proper form and openness to try new things out. Kettlebells has helped our running.

This is a cheap, no frills place to get a work out if you live in the Southwest suburbs. No…read morecontract, no membership, no annual fee, no pre-registration. You can show up and work out for only $2.50 a visit (technically, it's $3 for non-residents, but they didn't check). There is a gym, fitness room, aerobics/dance room, and meeting rooms. The City of Chanhassen offers personal training and fitness classes too. The locker rooms and showers are basic, but new and clean. It's a small facility, tucked into the east side of Bluff Creek Elementary School, so it's not glamorous. No rows of flat screen tvs or monitors and MP3 connections on every treadmill. All the cardio and weight training equipment is located in one room, but the machines are new and well maintained. It seems pretty quiet in the evenings, so their having only 3 treadmills shouldn't be a problem. There are also several ellipticals and stationary bikes, a rowing machine and what looked like a very complete weight lifting circuit. Sure, the Eden Prairie Community Center, the YMCA or the numerous private fitness clubs are larger and have more amenities. But they're also crowded, pricey and usually want a commitment of variable duration. For $2.50 (or even $3) a visit, this is the best deal I've found.

The excellent maintenance ensures that all equipment is impeccable and greatly enhancing the overall gym experience. There is a lot of space and more than enough weights that you won't be waiting for them. The trainers are some of the best in the city. This fitness center allows me to focus on my training because there's no pretense, no need for "cool" workout clothing, age is not a deterrent. My level of fitness and my goals are 100% respected. Unlike most gyms, almost all of the members here actually are on friendly terms and you'll probably be greeted by name at the door. This also holds me accountable to show up and keep me on my health goals. Its so easy to give up but this place gives you that extra push to keep going. I need that and I am so appreciative that this gym and all the staff and members are such good people. Just meet the Owner Jason and you will understand.
